They had secondary professions!?
Now that I’ve looked that up, that’d be an awesome and welcomed addition.
They had in GW1, you could be Ranger/Ele, Ranger/Warrior, Ele/Mesmer …
And I agree that add second profession mechanic would have an insane balance issue and no dev team in the world could handle it.

You realize that the rox quiver is just a skin and ppl with the ascended quiver have a back item with ascended status, so the ones that spent time/gold on their ascended will still have the advantage over the others, I don’t see the problem with that.

I like to have a lot of healing when running BM build since in small zergs you can’t rely in other things to keep your pet alive, since we can’t have every stat at max I picked vitality, condition damage and healing to be high, medium toughness and 30 points in BM, so far it is working VERY well, I see my jaguar survive much more than most players and my carrion devourer is pretty much immortal.
The worst part of my build is that I only have healing spring as cond removal, I need to figure out something in that aspect.

My Trapper/BM build (0/20/20/0/30)
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
My new set:
Head: Anonymity Hood
Glove: Heavenly Bracers
Rest: Reyna’s Armor
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
After the WvW reset last night I went there for the monthly.
My build was 20/30/15/0/5.
In around 2 hours with piercing arrow, SB, signets, QZ and RaO I got 30 kills in small zergs, then I changed traits to run as trapper + Entagle, in about 20 minutes I got the 20 kills and about 1 hour later I got about 80 kills.
That huge difference in kill count and my cond. damage is kinda low, about 900 and my armor is also low, 2400 armor, so if you spec more into a proper trapper build you can do even better.

I used to run a power ranger (quickness nerf ended that). Just built a trap ranger with just over 1500 conditioin damage (not fully geared with no ascended) and I dominate people in wvw in both small and large fights. The aoe and cc on the traps rips almost every profession apart and the constant evades+reapplication of conditions ensure your damage will be dealt while you stay pretty safe. I personally, find it a kitten near OP build in every situation. In zergvzerg, i run flame/frost/spike for heavy cc and damage. in small groups i run flame/viper/spike for higher damage. If the kitten hits the fan, entangle at the proper moment decimates solo players and groups alike (Don’t blow it too early! Make sure they can’t evade it before casting and don’t be blinded when casted.).
I’m very interested in this build, can you share build + equips?
I love traps but I think I’m doing something wrong, I end trying to have much of everything (cond, crit, toughness and heal) at same time but I end with low stats in everything …

Actually ranger is even better in melee than in range.
Sword is the weapon with the highest DPS in our arsenal, Greatsword also cause a good damage and gives nice utilities.

Dodge it? Dang! You must play with some great players. I don’t know many players capable of recognizing animations like that. I’d say if you can dodge player’s abilitiea like that, you’re doing really well and should consider trying some competitve play. However, like I said above, by the time you pop Entangle, your enemy should already be out of condition removal and endurance.
Or they dodge, or escape very fast or I’m so noob, very likely, that I cast entangle while my target is dodging, but anyway, I end seeing people evading it very often.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
I sometimes use Entangle while protecting a gate in WvW, I come close to the gate, use Entangle to root some people outside then use my traps and barrage at the gate, all hit players that got root and some others attacking the gate too, and it works with players above the wall too.
Entangle is also good in the middle of a zerg fight since many won’t see you casting it and wont evade, but if you are in a small group fight then most players with a minimum of knowledge will be able to dodge your elite.

I agree with The Dreamer, but I really like Kudzu, it isn’t “cool” like the GS and the axe but it isn’t a joke weapon, for a longbow it looks great and have a cool effect.
The idea of make joke legendaries and “cool” legendaries separated skins is nice, I would be ok with that.

Short answer: Nothing
Long Answer: A few NPC appear in your home instance after some quests, but not that they add any lore, info or services to your home.

My point was that the trapper build is one of the most effective for the ranger at the moment but at the same time, if you spec in traps you lose bow dps which is already lacking.
Yup, or you specialize in SB or in trapps, pick one.
But if you are a trapper then you probably are speced for condition damage and the SB already have low cooldown specially skill #2 so you wouldn’t gain much with 20% lower cooldown.

Yeah, people asked many times to move the trap traits to wilderness survival tree, but I think at this point of the game changes in the traits of this magnitude is impossible.
Many also think it is weird that many good traits for pets aren’t in the BM trait, like the cause 30% more damage on crit in skirmish, 30% pet move speed also in skirmish among others.

Even better I’ll give Robert Hrouda’s though:
“We tried giving them reduced damage from AOE/attacks, and it opened up other problems – mainly that a team of 2 rangers could take on almost any boss in a dungeon by smart swapping of pets and letting the pet take aggro. It’s unfortunate, but we can’t just increase and decrease numbers until pets are perfect – we’ve tried really hard, but numbers are not going to fix pets without letting them break everything. We have to look deeper into mechanics, AI, player actions, and skills.
As much as they seem vestigial, the “attack” and “return” keybinds are really the only thing that can give the player any control, and they can be a bit unwieldy. I would recommend though that if you have never tried using those keybinds, try them out the next time you’re in a dungeon, your pet will thank you for it.
Also, I find that a ranged pet does better in dungeons. My typical pet setup for dungeons is Hyena (because having 2 knockdowns and another hyena is super good), and a Drake (almost any). I know this is contradictory to what I just said about ranged pets being good, but I use the keybinds a lot and that dramatically increases survivability when taking 2-3 hits is all you want the pet to do.
Spiders and devourers can be really good to bring because of the fact that they are ranged. Devourers have an escape from melee ability as well, and spiders have CC, which helps keep them alive while you reposition and pet-swap (or return) in a more favorable place. Tankier pets require more management, but once you get there and know how to use it (in combination with pet swap), you’ll find you’re not facing the death cooldown as often as before.
That and you can name your spiders “Cuddles” and your devourer “Citizen Snips” and get a good laugh out of people’s reactions.”

I agree 100% with No Walking, except for the torch.
That live made me really sad, ranger is my favorite class but I don’t find reasons to play it, my alts all do better than him, I have 1 of each class but only my ranger and guardian are lvl 80, my warrior is lvl 65, my necro and mesmer lvl 30, and after playing it all I can start to feel the ranger weakness.
I know that rangers can do great at 1v1, but it isn’t really usefull in tPvP, useless for WvW, even more useless in Dungeons, all the rest the other classes can do much better.

What is State of the game??
It is a live the devs of Anet make with some players here http://pt-br.twitch.tv/guildwars2guru it will be available on youtube later on the gw2guru channel.
I was also watching it and the ranger part was sad, they pretty much said, yeah rangers need to be worked, we’ll make AR being shared with pet, ok we talked too much lets move to the classes that matter …

I used them during the BWEs, then they nerfed to useless and guess what, never found a way to use it well, at least not in a better way than the rest of our skills, and bear in mind that our skills aren’t great.
Only our elite SoN may have some uses if you place it in the right spots in specific situations, like in some dungeons.

I was doing part of the Norn Personal Story and there is a mission where you use an Axe to fight a Jotun King and one of the skills of that Axe summons a griffon to fight alongside you, it would be awesome to have the exactly same model as a ranger pet.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
I agree with Aegis, I love the AoE potential of MH Axe, the chill from #3 is also very helpful, and with Honed Axes trait with a power/crit build you’ll see nice numbers specially ikittenerg in WvW.
OH Axe is very lackluster so far, if you could move during Axe #5 (like Warrior’s oh axe #5) it would improve by a lot, but until then it is the worst OH weapon we have.

Guys I’m toying a bit with the Buildcrat and coming around a nice balanced condition/trapper setup.
http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/ranger/?6|5.1b.h16|1.1b.h2|1b.71d.1b.71d.1b.71d.1b.71d.1b.71d.1b.71e|4y.d1f.1k.63.1k.63.1b.63.1b.63.1b.62|0.k18.u38b.5.f4|1k.7|e
What you guys think?
Healing power: 500
Condition Damage: 1.1k
Power: 1090
Tou: 1800
Crit: 50%
I’m thinking in something to run in WvW in small zerg based on traps.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
Wait, so what is the point of the trait that stealths us when we get stunned, ect? It is now a PvP only trait. Seriously?
Well … in PvE you won’t get MORE aggro if you are in stealth, just the current aggro you have.
I hope that our pets count as NPC, that would be fantastic against thief and mesmers.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
I never said it is a good idea, but at least I can see a reason some rangers like crit on condition builds.
Also you can use vegie pizza to increase the condition duration, or you can even use omnon pie for a nice heal instead of staking healing power and regens … people like many things
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
Why do you need crit chance with cond damage?
So many sigils and traits that cause bleeding or some other effects on crit that it is worthy to have an ok crit rate, like around 50%.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
I’d say Living Shortbow from Hall of Monuments. I have used since I made my ranger and it will be replaced only by the Dreamer.
I agree.
Currently I’m using the Trosa’s bow but I’ll use my HoM skin again.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
I may sound really noob here, but can someone please post this trapper build and the overall equips used, because I used to run a trapper/precision build that wasn’t that effective in WvW, now I’m running a trapper/BM hybrid build but I’m not sure about equips.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
240 is almost the same range as the dagger skill #4, with that you can check a bit more precisely.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
The beauty of the game is to create a build that you like, so I’ll help you make your own build.
Traps, Healing Spring and WH #5 and torch are great adds to a group in dungeons since it gives a good AoE, fields and support, so we have good part of our skills and weapon.
Builds around traps are better with condition damage and we need to survive the fights to keep causing damage and support, so we have part of our main stats Condition Damage and Toughness/Vitality
Short bow cause bleeding and poison, axe cause bleeding and chill and also have natural AoE, sword cause bleeding, poison cripple and gives mobility, pick 2 of those weapons according to your playstyle.
Now we need to see our traits, to fully use traps 30 in skirmishing is almost required so lets see what else we can add based in some playstyles:
- If you want more precision, use main shortbow, add 20 in MM for piercing arrow and 5 points in BM for the quickness on pet swap.
- If you want more condition damage, balance between SB and Axe/Sword, invest in WS with things like martial mastery, off-hand training (great with a torch)
- If you want more survivability, invest a bit in NM and BM or heavy on BM for the healing and add some healing bonus in your gear and pick traits that help your pet.
The game is still in early stage, maybe some builds wasn’t found yet, try things out and be happy playing it, be sure that you’ll end playing better with a “weaker” build that you like than with a “stronger” build that you hate.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
Ranger in GW1 was great at interrupt others, in GW2 Anet should give us more stun, knockdown and knockback options.
Celestina is right, rangers in GW1 was better at PvP, but really hard to master it, rupt 1/4 sec cast skills requires A LOT of player skill.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
Tengu: The Dominion of Wind will be the starting map of that race, I’m almost sure that they WILL be a playable race.
Kodan: I think they have a good chance of be a playable race.
Hylek: … picking just to complete 3 choices :P
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
To craft rabid stats there isn’t, but I found that the Order of Whispers armor have the rabid status “Cond. Damage, Toughness and Precision”.
Jewels I have no idea, MAYBE some karma vendor may offer jewels with rabid status.
I agree that rabid, shaman, celestial, and other status, should be available in the PvE and not only in sPvP.
