Capes: state of work?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

I’d be willing to bet the capes they could provide without totally FUBARing everyone’s frame rate would be closer to wavy sandwich board backpacks than anything you would want to display regularly. Then there is the issue of putting a cape on a Charr….and then the Charr running on all fours.

The average player has NO idea the processing and graphical resources required to make a single waving flag, much less 100 flowing capes display with any hope of being convincing to anyone. Better they don’t even try than give us some half- kitten d, horridly stiff banner hanging on your back.

Also, there are literally hundreds of things that should be addressed before they spend a moment on even looking at this “issue”.

flamekissed armor is a double cost item?

Brother Grimm.5176

Does not change the fact that you are asking them to take a revenue generating item off the market….why would they do so?

You are right it can be done (both AP reward and HoM skins are free)…..and they have done it for those skins to reward loyal customers. AND as I pointed out previously (that everyone that whines about this issue actively ignores) they VASTLY improved the system in terms of how gem purchased skins work now. I had NEVER purchased a gem store skin prior to the Wardrobe system BECAUSE of the limitations of application. I’ve bought several since then (and use them on multiple characters).

Frankly, they’ve given us all several yards and yet YOU want a mile….par for the course around here.

Your implication that it’s a “pay wall”, is absurd as nothing in this game requires you to change your skin(s)…..EVER. There is no WALL to keep you from doing any in-game activity. The multiple option to earn them without using RL $ also dismisses the “pay” part of your claim. That term is used as incorrectly as “grind” around here.

Just so you know, I’d be THRILLED if all my gem bought skins were suddenly 0 charges to use, but I realize it’s not really a reasonable request and certainly not a demand I’m going to make under the guise of “consumer rights”.

Until you can run some latency tests on the Equipment, nobody can really tell you.

I’d be more worried about the potential for the ISP to throttle your connection (that can cause lag and connection issues) since actual satellite bandwith has to cost a fortune compared to renting fiber from a backbone provider.

flamekissed armor is a double cost item?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I made this argument before that Xmutation charges were a “second paywall” but…. DLC lovers and people who love to throw money away disagreed and bashed on me.

I’m all for supporting a company. I’m also all for consumer rights as well. It’s not like we’re asking for a game breaking change here

No, but you are asking the company to give up revenue from one of it’s few (if not only) sources of income (the gem shop). Xcharges are NOT a paywall. I’ve NEVER bought Xcharges and change skins quite a bit. I’ve never fallen below 20 in my wallet. They are not hard to obtain without spending RL $.

Now I can see the complaint from new users that don’t understand the system and how it works, but you are not required to change skins and the charges are availble to earn outside of gem shop purchase. Not liking how the system works to does not mean it should or will change. Using the banner of “consumer rights” to get it changed is kind of silly. At the most, you should request some improvement to the armor description in the Gem Store to make it quite plain (I think it is now) that you get ONE free application and the skins unlocked in the Wardrobe.

I get the system may be different than what players are used to in other (subscription based) games, but nobody is hiding how the wardrobe system works nor what buying an armor set in the gem store provides.

Heavy, Medium, Light Armor - why?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

It’s a combination of statistical difference to delineate the classes and allowing for diversity of visual style. This game is HIGHLY about the BLING!, and different armor weights allow for multiple “looks” from a variety of armor sources. It also allows for some aid in visual identification of classes (or at least groups of classes) while in competitive modes of play.

It’s mostly about the BLING factor, however.

The Biggest Concern about HoT

This thread just proves to me some players are more concerned with bad mouthing Anet than offering an honest critic of the experience. Using terms like, “white knight”, “unacceptable” and “pay wall” just highlight that they have an agenda far beyond providing information on what they experienced during the test.

Just to be clear, I feel the same way about the “Great job, Anet!!!!!”, threads too. (EDIT: that they are useless to non-stress test players and a waste of forum bandwidth).

So, you have spent over $1000 on the game, and now you no longer will if there are no new dungeons.

One would have thought that with that line of thinking you would have stopped giving them money a long time ago, seeing as dungeons haven’t really been getting much love for years.

I think the technical term is, "cart before the horse…..

I also think the Dungeon community is far too small to qualify for a Boycott scenario , but good luck with your attempts to extort the Devs!

What should I be spending laurels on?

Brother Grimm.5176

How much you should “save” depends on how many characters you feel the need to outfit in Ascended Trinkets. I have a dozen toons and am outfitting them all (yes, I know they can share them….don’t want the hassle), so I need quite a few (and I don’t do Fractals so I use them for the rings as well).

As mentioned above, you can use 250 WvW badges to get you a Laurel discount on Trinkets from WvW NPC. Getting 250 badges usually takes less than an hour of running with a decent Zerg in EotM (and you earn a good bit of karma, XP and champ bags to boot).

If you have all the Ascended Trinkets you need, buy the T6 Crafting bags and sell (or use) the materials you get.

GemFX Crashing GW2

Just because the higher ups say ok, doesn’t mean the the dept. who worked on the graphics are cool with it.

Even though they are just injectors, the graphics dept. probably feel insulted and want to prevent players from “enhancing” the work they did.

With that said, it might not be ANet per se, but might be the graphics dept.

If they are not going to officially support it (as they have said) and it will not cost them anything short of these forum threads, what would they possibly gain by purposefully TRYING to make it not work?

I think the fact that OTHERS in plenty of threads have gotten gemFX to work in some manner kind of proves your conspiracy theory incorrect, but please feel free to think whatever silly ideas pop into your head…..

61 stacks of Bleeding in the Stress Test?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

As long as technically possible (and it appears to be), removing (or raising) the condition cap on BOSSES has always seemed to be a potential way to get around one of the CD issues.

It’s a number. Big numbers don’t mean more calculations.

But per how Condi is suppose to work (granted, this could be a different method of CD damage calculation….we don’t know), the Server has to keep up with WHO applies each of those 61 stacks and the CD value of each of those players to calculate the proper damage applied per tick….and that changes as each stack expires and new ones are applied..

The 61 as a “number” is easy, but all the background calculations to define what THOSE 61 stacks of Bleeding equate to damage wise is far from simple.

Also, keep in mind the Server has to maintain doing this CD calculation for EVERY stack of CD across the entire zone….not just this one fight….that includes every player, NPC and Mordy minon.

Now if this fight were somehow in an isolated “instance” in some way that would certainly allow for additional computational resources to become available. (very doubtful seeing how it appears the cap may be raised to 100 across the zone).

flamekissed armor is a double cost item?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

When you buy the armor skin, you get a FREE application (the skins themselves). Those also unlock the Wardrobe skins so you can apply them later (for charges).

This is how armor skins purchased in the Gem store have worked since Wardrobe release. Pretty sure the descritpion in the gem store is VERY explicit that this is the case (it does NOT imply you get infinite FREE applications of the skin).

Keep in mind that prior to Wardrobe, you got to transmute the skin ONE time….PERIOD. No chance to ever apply it again (short of buying it again).

Wardrobe system is improved over that method 100%.

At the time GW2 was developed, only DX9 or DX10 were available (DX11 was still in beta). A small bit of research would show you that going the DX10 route would have been a disaster (it was a major cluster). They pretty much HAD to settle on DX9 to release when they did.

Now in terms of updating, they would have to either support multiple engines or alienate long time players that use older hardware. I doubt they are eager to do either.

I’m happy you can support DX12, but Anet actually needs to 1000s of players that have DX9 capable hardware to log in and buy gems….(we all do, or the GW2 servers shut down).

Everything I have seen indicates the Mastery / Experience point bar is either/or and is in some way player selectable while being in some way dependent upon whether you are in HoT maps or old Tyria maps.

less dodge-dependent profession/build?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

Keep in mind learning the combat aspects of this game with a LB Ranger is a BAD IDEA….

  1. Pet will be a decent “tank” in general mob Open World combat, but the minute they charge a heavy hitting Champ, they are going to drop like a stone and your Tank (and part of your DPS) is gone.
  2. The Champ then turns his attentions your way…..
  3. Once your pet goes down (and the swap pet bites it also), you are now on your own. You must kite, dodge, block and evade all the damage coming your way now (WHILE continuing to do DPS to actually kill the enemy engaging you)
  4. Wait….you never learned to do that because your pet was always tanking melee and you just stood at range attacking w/ LB?

There IS a reason that BearBow is kind of a reviled arch-type profession in the game. Please know that I play a LB Ranger (but I have never used a Bear), but I spend more than half my combat with my GS out going toe to toe with what’s left of the mobs my ranged attacks didn’t take down in the first exchange.

You NEED to know how to avoid damage to be successful in combat in GW2 and Dodging is just part of that equation. I get that the OP wants less active combat, but that desire will put you at a distinct disadvantage in more challenging combat situations later in the game. It also puts any player around you in the position of needing to Rez you when you fail to survive. I’m in no way saying you can’t go down….all of us do for some reason or another, but not wanting to DODGE should not be one of those reasons.

i7 is a waste for this game (or just about any game in general), but an i5 has some significant performance edges over an i3.

If money is no object, why not just buy Bolt straight up?

You could have it in moments if you have the right amount of gold….

….
2. You can unlock a LOT of skins with Karma these are mostly generic skins (nothing flashy or fancy….tho some of the weapon skins are some of my favorites)

I think Dulfy.net has a fairly good guide on unlocking Wardrobe skins but keep in mind I think I spent over 1.5 million karma when Wardrobe came out and I didn’t unlock them all (I still need about 40 to get to the 1000 unlocked skins Achievement).

…..
3. Karma and Badge of Honor gear cannot be salvaged.

Adding to this….Note that you cannot TELL by looking at the item (once you purchase it) that it’s not salvageable……ALWAYS check (enable a salvage kit and see if the item turns red or not) before putting an (expensive) upgrade on any item you are unsure of.

Question about the colours in Eotm

in Players Helping Players

Brother Grimm.5176

There are population limits….just not per color (as far as I know….could be incorrect about this).

The issue is the way the colors are re-assigned when WvW matching is done. As I understand it, it is MUCH more likely for the higher ranked servers to be assigned to Green (thus it is much more likely for the “heavy hitter” servers end up grouped together in EotM (not the best senario in terms of balance). Since EotM has nearly ZERO effect in terms of actual WvW competition, nobody has done anything to correct the imbalance (at least, that’s how I understand the situation).

Then I say ANet should add it because it is worth the ‘sacrifice.’

Let’s see just how far up the chain what you say goes…..

Dueling in Open World just isn’t going to happen, so I suggest not holding your breath.
