I can’t believe I deleted all my original GW1 characters (WAY back when Nightfall came out). I actually held on to an original Elementalist until EotM came out…..

I didn’t start playing GW1 until the June 2005 anyway so I always had to wait a few months for presents (tho all my Factions characters got them during anniversary Festival).

Speaking of that, are there any plans for any GW1 celebrations? I just logged in a few weekends ago to see if I got any new mini’s to try and bump my HoM points and it was quite dead.

To not open up another source of funds for existing gold sellers? They could use their “slave” labor to earn gold (and/or steal gold / gems from account hacking) and then undercut Anet RL $ gem prices.

Leveling takes forever, is it just me?

Been playing since Beta and Leveling takes much less time now.

You would have really enjoyed GW1 Prophesies……Played for 7 months and finally made it to LVL 20 (max level in that game). Then Factions came out and you could level to 20 in less than a week.

As others here have stated, there really is no reason to rush to 80 unless you already have multiple LVL 80s. A new player needs to learn how to play properly before rushing to 80 and delving into Orr or Silverwastes (please tell me your first character isn’t a Ranger….)

I’ve been told that playing in several different zones speeds up the “unlock” (but that could be untrue). You may want to visit the other race starter zones and do a heart or event or 2 in those zones just in case it’s true.

You can visit the other races starter zones by traveling from your starter city to Lions Arch and all the other portals to the other cities are nearby.

Ranger or Elementalist?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

These 2 classes play so differently it’s not even funny. While what follows is wildly broad and “typecasty”, here are the facts:

Ranger – The official GW2 EASY button class that teaches new players HORRIBLE combat skills. Survivablity is high, but again, teaches really bad combat habits.
Elementalist – Arguably the most work (button mashing wise) but if played well can be devastating on the battlefield. High learning curve and while Ele’s can have high survivabllity, it takes work to maintain it.

Keep in mind I play both classes and both can be played unlike what I described above. A Ranger can be played well (even with a longbow) and an Elementalist can be played poorly and simply be another squishy target.

power levelling (several parts)

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

I don’t want to be intentionally obtuse, but WHY would you ever need to power level in GW2? Certainly NEVER suggest rushing to 80 as quickly as possible for a new player. Please.

Here are a few tips I have for new players leveling:

  1. Read the RED stickied threads in this forum. LOTS of good stuff there.
  2. Don’t spend anything on equipment unless it is 10-15 levels below your level. (Save it all for 80).
  3. Learn to use the wiki. Note that you can search the wiki in-game by typing:
    /wiki WHATYOUWANTTOSEARCH
    in the chat window.
  4. If you are unsure of something ask in map chat. Ignore idiots that call you a noob and someone will help you.

Hiding boots

in Players Helping Players

Brother Grimm.5176

Is there a way through transmutation to hide certain pieces of armor?

I can’t stand the look of charr boots. It’s like their nails grew long and pierced through their boots. If it’s not possible to hide the boots completely, are there any boot models that have a different look?

Despite the fact that they ARE feline (and DO have claws that might do what you say), I know that the Magnitech medium set (gem store item…sorry) fully encloses a Charrs rear paws.

Per above, check out the wardrobe tab during storage access and you can look at all of them….

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Any progress on letting us replay Season 1?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

:….. I ponder how you can have a battle in a city that is already in post-battle ruins. (And as you can see, folks in this thread have added several ideas of their own about how they feel it could be done.)

Consider passing this along:

The Fractal “explaination” of re-enacting past events via entering a portal, could easily be used to “explain” you being able to enter “old” Lions Arch to participate in events there. Same with Scarlet Invasions in various zones or the Marionette event, etc.

It would seem to me all the assets for these things have already been done (obviously they need to be modified to fit the format), but unless there is a “technical” reason I can’t see, there is no reason an entire zone (or part of the zone) can’t be accessed via some “past events” explanation (that is already in permanent use within the game) as some of the instanced parts of the present game. Granted, I get that entire zones would require significantly more resources to generate and maintain, but the Megaserver system should have DRASTICALLY reduced the required resources to maintain the main game zones so additional ones added on a timer basis shouldn’t be overly difficult to pull off.

I am in no way implying this would not take tons of work, but that work would also apply to other potential uses for “alternate” map zones ( like some sort of “Hard Mode” like GW1? )

Please stop creating outfits

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

While I will NEVER spend hard earned gold (nor RL $) on an outfit, I can’t blame Anet for making a quick buck on dolly dress up lemmings, either…. Outfits likely take 1/5th the resources to produce than a full armor set, so it’s purely an economic decision that is NOT going to go away because some players request it.

I DO wish they would develop some armor sets to match some of the outfits (tho none of them are even close to a must have look for me).

Why armor repairs are still in the game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

To annoy players for dying?

Unless you go down more than half a dozen times, there is no real penalty for dying.

This argument will go on and on between hardcore RPG fans (that want some consequences for not playing “well”…or playing at all (AFKers) ) and the Casual players that complain about “stresses” of dying if there were penalties. Anet has obviously sided with the casual crowd, but has failed to remove the last vestiges of the only real penalty for death that has already been removed (repair costs).

Good or bad is another argument.

I suggest some gawking visual tell if your armor is broken (a scarlet letter of FAIL if you will). I doubt shame will work on AFK event farmers any better…..

As long as you don’t type anything BELOW that point in the reply email, it should get into the ticket for review.

I don’t recall ever hearing of an issue SENDING mail to Anet support via gmail (but there certainly has been isssues in the past with Anet Support emails having issues with sending to gmail addresses (and yahoo, as I recall).

  2. Get rid of the hat. (Silly isn’t a good male Norn look, IMO).
  3. Cover face with a helmet or facial hair (makeover kit required). Anything to cover a male Norn face has a high likely hood of improving the character’s looks.

Sollution for bringing Living World 1 back!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

I’m guessing the best you are going to get (when they do release this) is all the instanced content being done like missions in LS2 and MOST of the world wide events being re-told thru video / slideshow / media of some sort (not interactive). They COULD have several of the world events be available as “alternate” zones that are only available at certain times (like the World Boss rotation). These would be like the, Marionette, Scarlet Invasions (that could rotate to different alt-zones), Lions Arch Escape events, etc..

It would be very difficult to make these “alternate” zone events lore friendly, but they COULD make them accessible via something similar to Fractals (lore wise)….not a 5 man instance but a full ZONE.

I will 100% agree that PvE (and GW2 in general) is “imperfect”, but I avoid using absolute terms like “broken” or “fail” just because they are popular on the “interwebs”…..

Bottom line is that we should all be aware of that saying about what opinions are like….

Death Penalty

I’m not sure the idea of a death penalty to encourage players to change their build is a good idea. I LIKE the idea of some sort of more strict death penalty just to encourage the player base to TRY and survive but not as a direct attempt to force “build diversity”.

I seriously don’t think the 3 guys next to me at GMII this morning that STOOD in the lightning rather than try to dodge out of it were all Zerkers…..they were just either bad players (that possibly had not learned the BOSS mechanics yet), or were AFK-1er bots (that I think should be DEAD and then KICKED from zone). Brother Grimm.5176

They know about the bug and are going to fix it…..why would you want a refund (that they are NOT going to give you)?

IF the change were planned (and it’s NOT a change), points on your request for a refund:

  • Not applying the confusion does not make the rune set completely useless.
  • Only the 6th rune triggers the effect you are complaining about, so at MOST they owe you for 1 Rune (not the full set).

Keep in mind the word “generous” is not the word I would use to describe just how twisted your logic and thought process is on this issue…..

PS: You are also grossly exaggerating the current price of the Rune set. (you can buy them immediate for less than 60g and put in the highest offer for less than 50g).

PPS: Before you reply, NO, they should not pay you what you paid, but what you would pay right now.
