……I spent maybe 8 hours the other day in EotM on my day off and walked away with a grand total of like 25 gold. That’s absurd. I can get more gold by grabbing a second job.

I find your choice of game mode to earn gold more absurd than comparing playing a game to a RL job to turn $ into gold (tho that comparison is pretty absurd). It’s always been “easier” to earn RL $ and buy gold via gems so I’m not sure what the complaint here is.

I’m assuming you were playing EotM to earn karma, but since telling us how much karma you earned didn’t back you complaint, you forgot to mention that….or you just have very poor info on how to earn gold in GW2?

Best Leveling Sigils?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

If you are leveling by clearing zones, then Bloodlust of the best type you can equip is suggested…..ANYTHING that boosts your power will speed up killing. Note that you need to get a MYSTIC FORGE SALVAGE KIT as soon as possible as it will allow you to get a good chance of retaining upgrades off of old equipment at a lower kit cost. It does take some initial investment but provides 250 salvages with a HIGH rate of upgrade return (I would not suggest using MF kit this on ALL salvage items….just what you want to get upgrades from).

Per above, the ONLY thing I would suggest possibly buying (from the TP or via karma NPC) is +POWER jewelry (since very little is given as reward and NEVER drops) and possibly one or 2 of the RARE (racial) weapons you can get at LVL 40 and 60. Beyond that, save your gold and karma.

What's Anet policy on account trade?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

You cannot legitimately transfer an account to another player. Buying an old account is HUGELY risky and completely unsupported. Pretty sure if Support can verify the account has been “transferred” they would likely perma-ban it.

That being said, I don’t think there is anything wrong with purchasing an account using your friends email address. They would get the activation key and links to download the software (tho you can log in here with the new account and download from this site as well). As long as the account is not registered to another player, I don’t think it really matters who purchases it, but keep in mind that the verification process when you contact support MAY require the credit card number used for the original purchase (I don’t think that would be needed if the activation key is available to verify with).

so why berserker?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

Zerker is just the most efficient means to kill enemies in the shortest period of time (by having high DPS via direct and crit damage). Dungeon runners want to finish the dungeon ASAP to get end reward for least time spent. Zerker equipped players are much more likely to do a dungeon path faster (if they know the path and how to run it).

This mentality has “leaked” over into other aspects of the game where “killing faster” is not really needed (tho it is indisputable that dead enemies cannot harm you).

TL;DR: Sans speed running dungeons, play what you want but keep in mind that Zerker gear is more likely to kill enemies faster. How well you can survive in full Zerker is another story (and depends on how well you can avoid incoming damage).

I’m for the wait and see option. Until we get some additional info about what will happen to those items when the update happens, rushing to do something with those items does not seem to be the best idea. It may not hurt, but it may remove some choices you get when we learn more about the final changes that will happen with the update. I have yet to see any valid argument why rushing to do something NOW will give any advantage after the update.

RNG Conspiracy Conundrum

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

The assertions that “RNG is broken” has ANOTHER possibility that is being ignored by the OP….it’s a flaw in the programming code (not an intentional “feature” Anet is secretly hiding from the player base). To assume the “secret code” rather than the “bugged code” theory DOES lead me to “conspiracy theory” jokes and the continual rolling of my eyes when I see these type of posts.

What I find massively unbelievable is that there are players that appear to 100% believe the idea that some secret “luck” stat exists on accounts (or characters) that effect the game’s RNG and they also believe it is something Anet can alter at will and that the changes are made based on such things as how many gems the player buys or if the account post negative comments on the internet.

Ok, I get there are some people that want to find the “answer that’s out there” (cue Twilight Zone music), but what I don’t understand is WHY they would continue to play the game if they are so convinced the company running it is so evil, greedy, nefarious and vindictive as to perform these believed actions. If they are so convinced the game is rigged, why continue to play it?

Per above, you assumption that doing this is an “easy” fix is just an ignorant comment and makes everything you say from that point on questionable. I’m not sure how easy or hard it is to put this feature in place (and I would welcome it), but I DO KNOW there is solution that you seem to ignore…..join a party...this is an MMO and it’s entirely possible that this feature has not been implimented to prompte THAT solution to the problem (partying up).

The suggested feature is not a bad idea, but making a request then tossing in backhanded insults at the development team does nothing but make you look petty and arrogant (and a bit ignorant with the “easy” assumption).

why does gw2 feel like a grindy f2p?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

Define “hasn’t changed”.

The basic nature of the transaction hasn’t changed. Gems haven’t got more expensive with RL money. That’s good.

But the gold-gems conversion rates have changed so much that it’s gone from a game where you could have a serious expectation of buying stuff for gems without serious farming to one where you will have to farm farm farm, and where it gets more and more extreme.

I understand why, but it is kind of sad.

I used the term “economic model”….that model itself has NO relation to the exchange rate. Thus, the model itself (how the game is ultimately funded and the in-game economy works “hasn’t changed”. It’s still the same (don’t know how to define it any better).

I don’t disagree with the general negativity about the gold to gems exchange rate (and I’m not going to get into the argument of just how it’s “regulated” by players….that’s another topic), but you must understand how MASSIVELY easier it is to earn gold now than it was when the game released. 100g was a number I couldn’t even grasp a month after release and you can easily earn that in a single TP session (or less than a month or so of rather casual farming). It’s not like the cost of gems has skyrocket and the ability to earn gold has stayed constant.

because … it is a grindy f2p?

you add almost jack all to your game for two years yet you need to keep people interested. so what do you do? you add pointless baubles and outfits for people to play dress up with but stick them behind massive time gates to keep them playing.

  1. Please list your actual experience with ANY F2P game out there. I’m guessing you’ve never played one.
  2. While I can accept a complaint about the quality of some of the content added over the past 2 years, claiming there has been NO content added is a flat out LIE and MASSIVE exaggeration that brings everything you say into question. The list of content added to GW2 is HUGE and never cost you a single PENNY (sans the latest LS2 series that required you to log in to get it for free).
  3. I’m unaware of any baubles or outfits that are behind any time gates….please elaborate (again your credibility suffers due to misinformation…intentional or not).
  4. Of COURSE they want you stay in the game….how is this a surprise to ANYONE? The only way Anet makes money (beyond the original game purchase) is to get players to buy gems with RL $. There are only 2 ways to purchase gems at this point and the retail gem cards are hard to come by these days. That leaves in-game purchase. If you aren’t in the game, how are you going to buy gems? Since Anet can almost ONLY earn additional revenue when you are in-game, why is it surprising that the content would be built to keep you logged in? If you feel that this is some sort of evil nefarious plan by Anet, I suggest you find another game to play (it’s simple survival in the business world).

All of this “armchair quarterbacking” is pointless…..Anet is going in the direction they think is both entertaining and profitable. Obviously not all players will agree with the “entertaining” choices and they have every right to discontinue use of the product.

I think Anet DOES listen to players about things that could be changed that would not greatly effect their overall economic strategy, but requests that would greatly effect the general end-game for every player are not even going to be commented on (and I can’t blame them for not poking at those embers).

Do what you want, there are plenty of MMOs out there and if this one isn’t something you enjoy any longer, move on.

Why are Gems attached to Server Transfers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

Cost in gems varies.
Cost in money is static.

Everything on the gem store has a static RL $ cost. Open your wallet or earn the gold in-game. The choice is there and it is 100% a player decision.

BTW, every player that complains about the gem store and RL $ purchase of gems needs to understand the economics behind how Anet is able to maintain the servers being powered up so they can actually log in. RL $ sale of gems is vital in keeping them up and running.

Custom outfits?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

If you go to each city and clear them (takes about 10-20 min each) you get a transmutation charge as a reward.

Your options are to suffer with the patchwork skins as you level or buy an Outfit to cover it up (one time fee, endless uses on all characters….but no mix-n-match customization….that costs charges).

I can see new players disliking the existing trans charge system, but veterans will remember what a PitA it was to juggle skins in the pre-wardrobe days so the current system is VASTLY superior (but I’ve never had less than 30 trans charges….ever). You can say that Anet is not getting any money from you for Tans charges (and that’s your choice) but if you think they don’t make money on them from other players, you are WRONG. Players need to keep in mind that the only income Anet gets (beyond new game sales) is from gems that are purchased with RL $. If that income dries up, the servers go dark…..

This will take you to hub of portals that you can use to travel to any of the player race cities. From there you can enter the starter zones for each race and explore to your hearts content (pun intended….).

If you are looking for some easy XP and rewards with no fear of combat, you can clear each racial city and Lions Arch (should be worth about 4 or 5 levels and a transmutation charge for each city cleared).

Per above, as a new player, please do not RUSH to level 80….enjoy the journey and explore. Learn the combat system (learn to move and dodge when needed) and only worry about your equipment when it is 10-15 levels below your current level.

…….You don’t buy a phone and then have to pay more just to be able to use the apps that are supposed to be free on the phone …….

Besides storage (that you CAN get with in-game gold, BTW), name me ONE thing you ABSOLUTELY NEED to spend RL $ on to play GW2?

Also, the fact that EVERYTHING can be obtained via in-game gold (gold to gems) discounts every claim that Anet MAKES you spend RL $. Is it more convenient? Sure…but there is an option (a HUGE distinction from most F2P games).

GW2s economic model has NOT changed since release (tho I will agree it has leaned more toward gemstore based rewards than I would like). The fact that it is highly successful for ANET (and NCSoft seems to like the status quo), attempting to change this model with some sort of grass roots player movement is just a waste of effort. If you feel that “grinding” or "nickle and diming " is beyond what you can stand, there are hundreds of other MMOs you can go play.

While all of the MF materials can be turned into gold, I wonder what the sudden glut of every player getting tons of these is going to be on the items that can be forged with them?

I’m guessing the following:

  1. Promoted Siege Weapons are going to plummet in price on the TP as these are the easiest way to make back gold / skill point currently.
  2. I can’t see that general material promotions would cause huge supply increases, but there should be a general downward trend on all crafting material prices (assuming promotion increases due to the forced MF material increases).
  3. Prices on Forged named weapons may see some movement, but the actual MF materials are the least expensive materials to forge these, so maybe not.

Likely to be many other things I just don’t see coming.

Brother Grimm.5176

INB4 the argument that Ascended is required and non-optional, as it is considered BiS. And that ascended itself is a grind because of the amount of materials it requires, specifially silk. Thus because it requires so much silk, that by definition is a grind. And silk is so expensive due to inflation, and because of RNG, that one is forced to run dungeons all day, and grind silverwastes to get silk drops.

This is followed by the argument that you can obtain silk doing almost everything in the game, thus you can do whatever you want and still obtain all the items that you need to craft ascended.

Countered by, by due to RNG it will literally take years to do that unless you specifically grind for it.

Also INB4: Anet said in their manifesto that there would be no grind, but clearly there is grind, so therefore they lied. As you cannot obtain ascended gear without getting a super ultra rare drop, or grinding the same thing over and over again.

Did I miss anything?

/thread. Thanks!

I believe you missed that you are incorrect on at least half your “facts”, but obviously nobody is going to make you believe otherwise, so “your welcome?”.

  • Your BiS is NOT required (sans high level Fractals).

It’s much more likely that your ISP had introduces some throttling (to save THEIR bandwidth) and GW2 connection is being effected by it (or the alternate routing due to the throttling profile the ISP is using). Keep in mind that Netflix client has built in buffering to allow for throttling to have minimal effect on the streaming content, but a semi-action oriented game like GW2 cannot handle being told to “wait” for data on a consistent basis (what throttling actually looks like to a networked program).

Best to run a TRACERT on your connection when failing and then present that data to your ISP (and complain about being throttled). It greatly depends on your actual contract with the ISP as to whether or not you can get the situation altered or not (if it turns out to be a throttling issue).

while I’d like to see the animations return, I do NOT see a reason to attempt and elevate this above the “annoying” status it deserves. If it truly effects your “game play”, then there are other personal issues you may need to consider addressing.

Asking what the status is (without the demanding, petulant tone) is certainly acceptable.

I wonder where the line is that makes elevates stuff above “annoying” and i also wonder if we shouldn’t just play with stick figures since that would also not be game breaking and it would not affect game play eh?

Seriously, these things are part of the “living, breathing” blabla they said they were trying to create. And if “small” things are not affecting your game play then why even bother?

Besides, most of the demanding tone comes from the method they’ve handled this “issue”.

Also… i’m sure that you are not the authority on what passes for more than “annoying” and what does not – for everyone else. Or what is acceptable.

The line is very definite and obvious. When it actually changes the game, in a tangible way, it has crossed that line. This is not that.

But isn’t that the great irony though? If idle and running animations don’t affect game play, why was the former was turned off at all (either on purpose or, as we’ve been led to believe, as a bug) and the latter purposefully modified to something entirely different, presumably spending a fair chunk of person hours there?

Or is it that a few people wanting them off/changed is game breaking and affects game play, but the people who enjoyed the original design concepts and intentions from launch wanting them back are only asking for something that is a small annoyance?

How does the one thing get to be two different types of things depending on the side of the fence you are standing? Is that how we end up with some old guy bringing a snow ball to the office to show us why global warming isn’t real? O.o

You are making my point by blowing this entire issue SO far out of proportion….I support the animations being put back in (we want the same thing), I just don’t see the NEED to be rude and obnoxious about asking where Anet is with doing so (or with other players that question why being snotty is a requirement to ask the question).

I like outfits.

Obviously some players do or they wouldn’t continue to make them.

I don’t like them and will never buy one.

No grind philosophy

…..
Problem is this game tends to push collecting sets of items as an activity, so if someone wants or is compelled to collect then they have no choice.
….

The game OFFERS the ability to collect sets and EVERYONE that plays the game has a multitude of choices on how to spend their time in game. What a player WANTS is part of that choice. Your implication that any player is FORCED to collect sets that are offered within the game is a way to justify potentially obsessive behavior and poor self control.

If you seriously feel “forced” to grind for an item, maybe you should re-kitten your reasons for playing the game.

Why is my download so much larger?

……
So my download has finished. 33 GB downloaded, 21 GB total folder size.

That makes absolutely no sense. I’ve never seen a game download so much more than it installs.

Where did you get the above numbers…especially the download number?

Even if what you are reporting as the downloaded value IS accurate or ONLY associated with the GW2 download, what difference does it make in the long run?

Can you use trait guides prior to lv 30?

I would suggest NOT buying any further Traits as the new Trait system (that will likely be introduced soon) does not appear to require gold / skill points to obtain (and they will change in any event.

Siege limit

Is it possible BOTH of the other sides are attacking together? That would allow double the siege you THINK should be attacking to be present. Not a big WvW player so I’m just asking…..and maybe this would be better asked in the WvW forum?

If you are not using the RMB to turn (and the side buttons for strafing), you are at a HUGE disadvantage to other players (in terms that keyboard turning is FAR too slow to allow for proper circle strafing or character orientation).

Just my 2 coppers on the issue.

If you deleted the character it’s assigned to, you are just going to have to destroy it (to remove it from storage).

Not sure Support can (or will) help you., but it can’t hurt to discuss the issue with them….good luck.

Been playing on and off since Beta and I’ve never had an issue take longer than 24 hours to get resolved (and I’ve had about half a dozen tickets). I know they have had a tough time lately (overwhelmed with the increase in new players due to the recent game sales), and it’s good to see some positive feedback again.
