Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
The only other possibility I can think of is game is being run at a resolution that is NOT native to the monitor(s). If the monitor is “translating” the resolution, that can often lead to very bad looking detail.
On the other hand, if the OP is expecting this game to look like a fully tricked out Skyrim or other single player game, his expectations are just too high. MMOs MUST make graphics compromises to compensate for the MULTIPLAYER part of MMO…..
I definately got the feeling in some of the discussions about Adventures that this may be a potential possibility. It would certainly give LVL 80s a better reason to visit old zones than they have now.
I have no interest in the leader board aspect, but if there are useful rewards I would absolutely consider doing daily Adventure runs.
You can use traits from the same tier at the expense of using a higher tier slot in the Trait line. I.E the higher slots can use ANY trait in that line you have unlocked.
OP is going to run into the ever pressent issue of getting into the Servers he is wanting to join. All the top tier WvW servers (both EU and NA) are FULL 24/7 and getting into them is massively frustrating (if it’s even possible in a practical sense).
I would suggest you lower your expectations and find a mid level tier WvW server that has room in it (but I can understand if the OP is resigned to only trying for the top tier Servers).
They also need to add the ability to obtain Trinkets in those (newer) stat combos outside of some rather obtuse and difficult to obtain collection achievements.
I’d like to see some options, but comments like, “this NEEDS addressing.” are simply not true. The class started with these items and still has them. It kind of identifies an Engineer to have them. It’s not a “fix” or a “bug” but a requested change. Call a spade a spade, guys.
I doubt the Devs are ever going to comment unless they have something to say that won’t cause a collective hissy fit. What do they have to gain by doing so?
And again, this request has absolutely ZERO to do with HoT itself…..

right now you have no use of building support for dungeons because everyone already has enough.
…..
so….artificially make Healing Power needed? When everyone has enough healing now?
I typed enough, “LFG, need Healer” in GW1 when I would rather have been playing…..no thanks.

Whats high risk about 100b? You can just move whenever you want, you just end the 100b early.
The moment it is no longer worth continuing the channel you just break it and move. That’s not a risk.
The risk is that you ARE required to stand still to apply the damage. Keep in mind any player seeing it KNOWS this (more applicable to PvP in terms of risk).
Every second you stand there you increase the chance someone can EASILY land a CC or massive damage on you. Yes, there is a rather easy out but at the cost of losing potential damage and the skill CD. It also take some rather intelligent thought to properly time you bail out.
You are certainly free to think of it as a no risk skill, but I think any intelligent player would agree that letting everyone within eyesight KNOW your are standing still for a bit brings some risk….
I still think you are stressing over nothing, but open a ticket with support if you want….
I suggest you get up early one morning and try then. Sever population is biased on current connections not how many people have accounts on it.
NO NO NO.
Quit telling people incorrect info. It is the EXACT opposite of what you told them. (It’s based on accounts assigned to the server).
Until someone on that server transfers to another, you cannot join it. Not to be discouraging, but keep in mind a MANY MANY other players may be trying to transfer to that server so you are all competing over the one slot that opens up when someone does transfer out.
Sad but true.

I wouldn’t worry about what the Windows folder size is telling you. Windows explorer does some funky things while a file is opened (being downloaded to).
If you look in the actual Guild Wars 2 folder, do you see the GW2.DAT file?
Not sure why you think the patch will make a difference with this, but good luck!
Keep in mind that the bar is NOT showing you percentage of total you needed to download, but only the total remaining. If downloaded half and got stopped , when you start it again the bar will be empty again, but you will only download the remaining files.
There is likely nothing wrong, but the GW2.DAT file is nearing 21GB in size now, so you have quite a ways to go still…..don’t get discouraged and welcome to the game!
I don’t think Anet is overly apposed to the idea of selling Dugneon runs, but should they alter the game to support or protect it? Apparently not.
I would say they don’t want to force players into that environment (another argument), but then Fractals are part of the Daily (sometimes twice in the same Daily) so i’m kind of baffled about it as well.

Pretty sure GW2 has no P2P sharing components in the client. You really need to open a ticket with Support to get 100% accurate info on this subject, however.
Unless you CAN actually turn off the filter and see the client work, assuming that the P2P filtering is what is blocking GW2 access may be invalid. DO you actually have any control over the campus internet settings? Sorry if I misunderstood, but you made it sound as if YOU could disable to filter or open ports at will.
You can feed Bloodstone Dust to the Dry Top Ascended back piece for some minor loot, but I’m not aware of anything for the other 2 (they weren’t as plentiful as the dust early on).
There are also some MF recipes that use Dust now.
I bet all those beta leak sites are peeved though…
Those sites are the reason no NDA will be in place. Intelligent devs know they can’t stop leaks so why make them matter…..
There’s something off with this beta. Based on the generic sign up page Anet is not looking for testers, but rather players to demo their client.
You are assuming those that get an invite won’t be asked to enter the standard tester type info before being allowed access….if they want a true random sample, that’s how to do it.
I’m betting they have a count of every report sent in during original Beta tests so they likely have a good idea what players are actually interested in helping test the game.

Holdover term from UO.
I have never heard the term “shard” used in DB lingo. If it were, it would be talking about replication most likely.
Not sure where this term became poplular in GW2 other than from other MMOs (as Anet has NEVER used that term that I recall).
A Megaserver zone is an instance of a world map that is generated as needed (exact specs are unknown) and destroyed when depopulated (again, no exact tech info has ever been given). The work similar to how overflow zones worked when server specific zones became full.

If this argument is about Dungeon runs, isn’t there a forum for that topic?
I have yet to see anyone in other areas of the game being chastised for not being “zerker meta” so this does appear to be a Dungeon run issue or am I mistaken?
Can the people who can only play 1-2 hours a night explain to me why they want ascended gear?
Because that is how the game was marketed. I used to play a game, WoW, that required me to devote 10-20 hours per week of dailies and organized play in order to obtain the best gear the game had to offer. Worse, they reset the treadmill every six months or so. I don’t want to play that game anymore.
I wanted to go back to my GW1 roots, where upon reaching the Granite Citadel I obtained the best gear the game had to offer. After obtaining superior runes through the normal course of play I spent a week or two hunting down elite skills. From then on I could farm for ectos or sell them as needed. They made no difference to my performance in the game; they were just cosmetic. That’s a true implementation of this no-grind philosophy. Guild Wars 2 has strayed from that. You act as if we’re asking for something novel and crazy. We’re not. We just want Colin’s vision implemented in this game as it was in the previous.
Can you explain to me why a game that claims a no-grinding philosophy should reward grinders with 5-8% higher stats? …..
Because they EARNED it by playing the game more?
First, you did not get to the Granite Citadel in GW1 and just GET the best equipment in the game. It cost some significant gold (that you had to obtain in some way).
…and when did they say the reward system for GW2 would be equivalent to GW1….I missed that part of the interview. If you have your toon in Exotic gear, your complaints to obtain Ascended are simply unfounded. You have to GRIND to get to high level Fractals and that’s the ONLY game mode that requires Ascended gear….period.
I’ve never seen any comment about not “grinding” for BiS gear.
They have always held that you don’t NEED to grind to obtain gear you can play the game in. As stated above, you can complete everything in this game (except for high level fractals) in GREEN gear (that drops like snowflakes from everything).
If you WANT to pursue BiS you will likely have to do some grind (but you are not FORCED to do so to actually play the game content). Heck, with the exception of some Achievements, Ascended gear and Legendary Weapons, the game requires very little grind.
98% of those complaining about “grind” in GW2 appear to have NEVER played a game that actually REQUIRES grind to progress in the game. THAT type of activity is what the GW2 manifesto is stating will not be present in GW2. It’s quite easy to twist any comment into the perception of a lie if your desire is to make someone out to be a liar.
….and as for this thread….
….you take what you kill!
It’s based on the number of people currently logged in on that server, so wait until the least populated time of day (or the update that was planned for today but was delayed by some amount) and try then.
WRONG!
Has nothing to do with log in’s. It’s based on Accounts assigned to the home Server.
A player has to transfer to another server to open up a slot to allow a new player to join. Keep in mind hundreds (if not thousands) of players are trying to join those FULL servers at any point in time, so it’s not even a simple as someone leaving….you have to win the competition for that ONE slot when they do.
The only answer to the OPs question is to keep trying.
It’s really not that hard to do 100% world.
I very rarely do WvW (certainly do NOT have any WvW geared characters) but have gotten 2 to 100% so far and have a 3rd at about 95%.
Clearing zones is one of my Endgame things to do.
The Gifts of Exploration sit in my bank as I doubt I would ever go for a Legendary until I see a Precursor (and I’m not buying one or gambling for one, either).
The question is very simple, and there is a huge difference between saying “What a waste of money…” and saying “It costs by average xxx gold…”.
Is this a taboo for you guys?
Not at all, but Ecto prices vary and so does the amount of luck you get from each salvage. Add to that the fact that the increases from % to % are not linear (there is a table on the wiki page, as I recall that details the needed values to raise % to %). ( Table on this page: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Luck )
There is no easy “XXX gold” answer (just some rough estimates). I’m sure there are threads around here that detail this but the search feature on this site is less than useful.
My previous comment was to discourage rushing the MF increase process to avoid the catch-22 players have when they max it. You won’t hurt my feelings a bit if you ignore my advice.
= Rough estimate below ====
Total Luck needed for 150% = 485,370
Average luck / Ecto salvage = 104.5 (rough estimate from here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Glob_of_Ectoplasm/salvage_research)
To go from zero to 150% will require (on average) 485,370/104.5 will require around 4645 Ectos (not using Crude Kits).
Etos are currently around 32s so that would be about 1486.5g.
Keep in mind you will obtain (roughly) 7525 – 8593 Crystalline Dust (9243 if you salvage with BL kits) so at about 17s ea you should gain back 1279.3g – 1460.8g (salvage kit dependent).
Worst case estimate is 0% to 150% would run, on average about 207g.
The research page shows that if you actually USE BL kits, you should MAKE about 93g.

I’d say the “hard” part of this is accepting that the action oriented combat is going to require you to play differently than “other MMOs”. I’ve seen a number of threads recently where new players want to play GW2 like “that other MMO”, and they don’t like hearing that they simply cannot do so.
GW2 was designed from the ground up as NOT being just another MMO, so you either need to adapt your playstyle or accept you will always have difficulties in combat. While I don’t find anything wrong with that, understand that requesting that GW2 be changed to be similar to “other MMOs” is going to get some rather strong reactions from long time GW2 players.
To be brutally honest, I have tried those other MMOs and was bored with the combat system….that’s why I chose to play GW and GW2.
I find many fashion trends sickeningly amusing (and yes, annoying), but lemmings will be lemmings….
2- Boosters are easily available from gemstore login rewards and black lion chests opened with keys from mapping/personal story, laurel boosters are cheap and you can always find yellow mobs in all maps including WvW. New players might not know but it’s incredibly efficient and available.
3 it was part of NPE
no the B menu is only unlocked for players who already have a lvl 22 that has been to wvw.
Boosters are NOT easily available to new players in any quantity. Not without spending some gems (and that is NOT an acceptable means of acquisition for a new or old player).
The Trait changes were made a month or more BEFORE the rest of NPE. Go look up the updates if you doubt, but you are wrong on this one. I am NOT saying they aren’t related, but they were NOT introduced at the same time.
On using WvW and PvP as a method to travel and access free bank / crafting / ect., keep in mind that those of using these methods are basically bypassing both the built in travel network (that is a needed gold sink in the game) and the need to use field access items (that are sold in the gem store). While I fully use the “workarounds” and share the info with any player that wants the info, I can also understand why Anet doesn’t advertise or teach those methods.
Not to be argumentative, but there are MANY on these forums that would dispute the claim that GW2 is NOT an easy game. Sure, there are hard battles that requires some planning and tactics to complete without mishaps, but in general the game is NOT hard and the story missions are mostly designed to present narrative story with some interaction, not any serious challenge.
Now, some of the latest Living Story missions CAN be rather challenging, and a few of the PS missions can present some difficult combat.
I will agree that I dislike the missions that replace your skill bar (The Ghost Rite is one) as you are expected to learn how to use these skills effectively at a moments notice. Your best bet on this one is stop when you have transformed and check out the skills a bit before charging into battle. Note that NONE of these are AoE but almost all are BLAST skills (in front of your character). As the wiki on the mission states, you should make it a priority to NOT get surrounded and do everything in your power to keep the foes in front of your character. This will be difficult for players that have not used a lot of character positioning in the past, but it IS a vital skill for certain professions and missions during the course of the game.

Get the error to happen and then check your system event log for errors or warnings. These can often point you to the system component that is causing the failure.
Keep in mind that once you hit 300% you will join an exclusive club that currently fills their storage with stacks and stacks of Exotic Luck……waiting for Anet to introduce some way to use them.
While I see an increase in the number of Rare’s I get, my 120% MF does not seem to be giving me anything that would warrant me spending tons of gold to increase it. Just let it increase naturally as you play the game.
It greatly depends on how much time you want to spend.
Karma:
EASY = buy Orian Jewelry Boxes
MED= buy Gloves in Bloodtide Coast and toss them 4 at a time in the MF. Sell / Salvage returns.
HARD (very clicky) = buy Beads in Fireheart Ridge and craft Beaded weapons to sell.
Skill Points:
Material Promotions. What to promote is highly dependent on the current TP prices. I’ve seen returns of up to 5g / skill point but that was with very different market prices on common refined materials. You can usually always get some profit from fine material promotions. There are web calculators out there, but I can’t comment on how accurate they are.
MF weapon recipes: I consider these VERY risky, but some swear they are constant money makers.
Yes, the NPE changes will be a shock to old players, but I’ve heard from many new players that like the gradual format. I’ve leveled up a few characters since the NPE and the only thing I feel needs some tweaking is unlocking Traits.
BTW, once those game modes unlock, you can access them imediately with any new characters.
Keep in mind that you CAN put Soulbound items into the bank but you will be forced to destroy them to free up the bank space (if the character they were Soulbound to is deleted).
Also, be aware that trying to transfer to a FULL server can be nearly impossible and can be a highly frustrating endeavor. Many players mistaken think the term FULL relates to how many players are currently logged INTO the server rather than it’s REAL meaning (how many ACCOUNTs are assigned to the server). Players have to transfer OUT of a FULL server to free up slots for other to transfer in.
That would be rather unfair to those who have supported the game longer yet have been unable to transfer. The self-centered-ness of some players requests around here is just astounding (but I guess not overly surprising).
Be aware that overclocking on a Laptop is more risky than a desktop. Just fair warning.
At the very least, run a utility that monitors temps and keep an eye on them.
i was never under the impression this was still an “issue”. The assumption that the current gold storage situation is going to change is news to me…..
AFAIK, there was a segment of the players that was unhappy with the change, but I never got the impression there was any expectation of something different being done to the current system.
World Boss train is also possible. Anything that gives you champ bags will flood you with Bloostone Dust. You will likely pick up more additional funds from Dungeon running, however.
I don’t even want to think about how many stacks of this stuff I have destroyed…..
The existing blindfold (Seer) headgear has 3 channels (as I recall).
Main band, edging & an ornament.
I think he wants this: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Plate_of_Truffle_Steak_Dinner
Takes the above and some roasted Lotus Root.
Everything for those is discovered (no recipe needed).
I’m all for this if they make an arena area in HoM or some specific zones, but I do not want cyber gits following me around a zone I’m trying to clear bugging me to duel (and being obnoxious when I turn them down or ignore them).
It appears the Devs know full well how toxic a segment of the population is in terms of this “feature” for general Open World and have ignored all these threads so far….I hope they continue.
I don’t want anyone to be able to do X because in my mind there is a chance it might lessen my experience doing Y.
A chance? Really? I don’t think I’m alone in not wanting to be harassed by PvPers in a co-op area of the game, either. Let’s put it another way…..If Anet wants to loose me (and thousands of others) as a customer, make this change in open world PvE.
Just very bad lore on Anet’s part
I feel that’s not quite true, but I do concede that if a Sylvari PC has the same conversation(s) and story branches as a non-Sylvari in the story mode of HoT it will be beyond “awkward”……
Now, if the story gives us a “decent” reason not all Sylvari become, “red eyed screaming ghouls”, that might be an out but I don’t see it not being “messy” for at least some period of time at the start of HoT story mode.
Outside of the Lore issues, does Race really matter at ALL in the mechanics of GW2 game-play? Beyond Aura being harder to SEE in PvP / WvW, or Norn/Charr having a tougher time in JPs, I can’t think of any.
Isn’t us player reporting problem is not data? isn’t player presence data? Example- if majority of player reporting same thing 80%, is that not data?
Someone here has a signature saying:
“Dear ArenaNet, please nerf rock. Paper is fine. Thanks, Scissors.”
That’s pretty much how valuable player feedback is.
This.
Players only see and care about how changes effect them. It’s sort of an ignorant selfishness we all have a tendency to gravitate toward.
Simple answer: Limited development resources and more important things to apply them to.
…….
ah, so like what we have now where all professions are better…except for necro’s…..-_-
So your suggestion is (again) to disrupt and imbalance the game in other areas so your Necro is desired in a Dungeon speed run group? You are aware there are 7 (soon to be 8 ) other professions you can Dungeon speed run with (and a 3 or 4 of those are very effective in that game mode), right?
Necro viability in Dungeon speed runs is a very specific (and kind of selfish) goal in a much more complicated issue (general Condition Damage system).
My numbers were made up to make a point. NOBODY is going to allow anyone to invest significant resources without 2 things:
1) An insurmountable problem that MUST be fixed.
2) A significant return in potential revenue.
Neither of those apply here. The game as it is is NOT suffering for lack of DX11 support (it is NOT a MUST for the game to continue).
The other side of this is supporting multiple versions since they certainly CAN NOT discontinue support for the DX9 version. Despite what most player seem to think, that would actually INCREASE their recurring costs as well (having to test any change at least twice….having to do EVERYTHING twice).
Not gonna happen.
No matter what they add or don’t add, they need to NOT call whatever it is “Raids”…..
If you add some additional memory (so OTHER windows things can run without taking up the 3.5gb memory limit), you won’t crash…..
I have 16gb and have NEVER crashed due to graphics or overload issues.
DX11 for this game is a pipe dream. 64 bit client is possible, but it would require a different GW2.DAT file to actually get the most out of it. All of this is a LOT of dev resources and actually gains them NO sales at all.
Try going into your boss and tell them you have 300 man hour project you would like to do that would gain no measurable revenue and see what they say…..(assuming a private sector, for profit business).
