Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
You do realize many veteran players can be a LVL 80 Revenant less than a minute after the Expansion goes live, right?
I grow increasingly tired of taking all this heat in game, mirrored again by some forum posters here. If you knew half the crap I’ve had to listen to when I’m warning people in map chat…. Meh. But the message I seem to be getting here in this thread is “You’re selfish and you need to conform.”
I don’t think conformity is really the issue (tho, I get that sheep will be sheep). There ARE Events going on prior to FE that players will miss out on due to doing the Ogre event with you. If they can do the Ogre event AFTER, they get MAXIMUM rewards. Do you not see that your actions ARE counter productive to the greater good (as stupid as that sounds saying about a game)?
I feel confident you are not doing it specifically to be selfish, but hopefully you can see where some players will take what you are doing (I believe incorrectly) as something spiteful.
Exactly WHY is showing up 5 or 10 minutes later (if all you want is the FE kill) and then doing the Ogre with the entire map, not possible for you?
Irregardless of how I, you or anyone feels about the “rightness” of what you are doing, you will NOT stop the hating by posting this here….you can only stop the hating by not doing what you are being hated for.
EDIT: I 100% agree that abusive messages and mail are childish and in no way productive (or needed) but you are talking about a bunch of people that are playing a video game…..not sure what you expect, so grow some thick skin if you plan to do something to PO them (whether or not you think it should upset them or not).
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
I’d say the real issue is some sort of unwritten common understanding that the Ogre Event gets done AFTER FE is killed (since there are tons of people that just completed FE available to do it).
The OPs Guild deciding to do it BEFORE FE does not follow the above convention and that is why the other players are upset. While this post seems like a reasonable explanation from the OP, he must understand that many of the upset players will simply see it as a middle finger gesture (even tho, I am convinced it is not), so I doubt it will server the purpose he intends.
If you continue to do the Event “out of order”, you will continue to be harassed and get nasty mails…..just accept it.
EDIT: on the issue of WHY the convention is for AFTER the event, keep in mind that the Ogre Event requires you to zone out of the existing Metrica and then back in. This could possibly result in a new zone for the player. Not sure that this would be a huge issue with Megaserver, but before, it would certainly result in a potential “overflow zone” that many players hated (but do not understand that ALL Megaserver zones are just that). Maybe the “convention” of AFTER is just a hold over to avoid getting shunted to an overflow? Also, many players consider the “waiting” period before World Boss events as part of the socializing aspect of the game and they enjoy it (and there are actual events going on at this time).

Using a cumulative binomial calculator, the odds of getting 1 or more pre from 350 attempts is 50%….
Far too many players actually believe this “math”. The 50% is horrifically misleading and the unfairness is that the OP believes he has found some magic number of Mystic Flushes to get a Precursor and in reality he already KNOWS the odds…..0.2% when tossing Rares. How many times you toss does NOT change that (very low) possibility.
It’s an issue of wishful mathematics that causes all these “Mystic Forge hates me!” posts.
You WANT to solo in WvW? Really?
Roaming with a small group is much more productive….
It’s been suggested that all of those slots that are “disabled” by the current tab should have hover text stating that you need to change tabs to use these slots.
You can keep the same weapon in the same hand on swap, but not change hands on swap.
You will need 2 maces to pull off what you want.
The only other perma-tool that offers an “advantage” would be the Consortium Harvesting Sickle as it allows for a shorter animation when harvesting (not much, but it does SEEM to be much faster).
Note that there have been plenty of complaints about the Watchwork Pick being an “unfair advantage” over the other perma-tools (that cost the same), so I would be VERY surprised if Anet stirred that pot of discontent by releasing another such tool that offers “extra” items per use. Frankly, I’m surprised every time they re-offer it on the Gem Store.
Have you rolled back the drivers until Nvidia fixes the issue?
Not sure I see another option.
The Anet fankids in here defending them disgust me. You probably aren’t even lagging. It IS NOT the internet, the internet is FINE. I can stream YouTube in 4K among other things and it runs SMOOTHLY. It is Guild Wars 2 that is lagging terribly.
So please, until the issues affect you too, don’t clutter up these threads with your nonsense and make it harder for them to determine the issue.
An ISP provider (or their internet contractor) can have a routing issue that has nothing to do with YouTube routing. You assuming this is Anet is like blaming Madison Square Garden that you can’t easily get from Philadelphia to their venue…..but you can drive to Boston without an issue. Run a TRACERT and SEE where the problem is before you assume the last station in your internet train is to blame.
NOTE, I’m not saying this can’t be Anet’s fault, but if it was, MANY more than just a single ISPs customers would be having issues.
If you have evidence that it IS Anet servers, submit a ticket with that info. If you find evidence it’s somewhere else in the path, you need to submit a ticket with your ISP alerting them to the potential routing (or router failure) issue.
but is there any hope they do that?
Since the item is a drop (or forged) it is unlikely they will (from my past experience and what I have seen they might assist with something directly purchased for gems, but not other in-game items).
Nobody here can really tell you what they will be able to do, but it can’t hurt to submit a ticket and give it a shot.
Yeah….just figured that out (last 2 map clears did NOT give me a BL key). Guess I just had a really lucky streak for a bit.
So from what i’ve seen so far there has been no mention of any personal housing in The new xpac.
Quit reading after this very reasonable statement of the current status of personal housing….
Seriously, why do they need to mention something they have no plans of putting in place in GW2? If you love those other games for their personal housing, nobody is stopping you from playing them.
Isn’t the time to complain about this Boon some X days after it’s actually in use and is properly evaluated?
As a Mesmer that portal’s people all the time (tho not JPs since I rarely do them any longer…RIP Monthly), I never get or expect tips. I do it because it’s the decent thing to do and I feel good helping others…..
Sorry, but the OPs post does strike me as less than selfless…
…….
Please don’t mock me. OCD is a serious condition.
….that you shouldn’t use as a “reason” to get something added to a video game….
Actually on topic: The game needs fully crafted Re-breathers or simply ditch them for an item that transfers your current helm stats to underwater combat.

The fact that the OP has MAXED MF and does not understand what area of RNG it effects speaks volumes.
Per the wiki:
Magic Find.
Magic Find is both an account bonus and a character attribute that increases the chance to receive higher-quality loot from slain foes. With a couple exceptions, it does not affect containers (including champion loot bags), chests, or any other source of loot.
The exceptions are:
There are two components of Magic Find: an account-wide bonus, which applies to all characters on the account, and a character-specific attribute.

There are always loud mouthed, jerks in every corner of the internet. More will be active in a non-cooperative game modes (PvP).
Is this a form of Necrophilia?
I have NEVER done a World Boss and not gotten credit. You are doing something wrong and Megaserver is not to blame.
I will concede that getting some Events to give credit due to huge mobs (especially since the Daily changes), can be frustrating, but it’s not like other Events on the map don’t exist.
Your best bet is to start making a new character and recreate (as close as you can), write down the dye names and then cancel (back out) the creation (or complete and delete the character).
I’m not 100% sure the names available in the character creation screens for skin, hair, etc. are the same as actual in game dye names but I’m no dye collector either.
Just to be 100% sure, check each armor panel and make sure the skin says unlocked before doing anything drastic.
Also, if you once had armor equipped on a character and got rid of it somehow (transmuted, sold, salvaged, forged, etc.) BEFORE the wardrobe system went live (almost a year ago), those skins will NOT be unlocked. I had 3 or 4 sets of T1 & T2 cultural prior to the wardrobe that I got rid of and had to re-unlock (a few I haven’t bothered with yet).
If you hover over the color in the dye screen, the name will show…..
EDIT: OH….you mean the colors you used when creating (hair, skin, etc.)…yeah, I think you are out of luck on that one.
I suggest you go to the wiki and read the DYE pages.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
Any items on a character you delete also get deleted. Since Cultural armor is RARE, it becomes SOULBOUND to the character that equips it. Even if you stuck the armor in the bank before you deleted the character, no other character would be able to even pick it up (it would be stuck in your bank until you destroy it).
The SKIN however will be unlocked and you can use a trans charge to put the appearance on any other character that could equip it (in this case a HUMAN of the HEAVY armor classes).
The item rewards are not worth worrying about. Now you CAN get some nice skins unlocked, but the level of the items is almost never going to be useful to the character that clears the map.
Sort of OT: Am I nuts or have they made a BL key a perma reward for all open zones completion now? I’ve been clearing with some lower levels and lesser used Alts lately and have gotten one on every clear for quite a while. Have a nice little stack of a dozen or so keys at this point (not a single BL chest which is odd….).
Please don’t learn the combat mechanics of this game on a Ranger.
Any zone in the required area you don’t have completely cleared? Potentially the zone that has the Daily Events in it (if its’ in the gathering daily area)? Learn to multi-task!
If you have all zones cleared then you should know the answer to your own question.
Start here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Main_Page
Thus endeth the lesson.
For WvW jumping puzzles sure, as you can’t just park an alt and claim the chest every day.
Other jumping puzzles could of course be modified to require a key/buff you claim midway the puzzle.
They could trigger the new reward on the same requirement used for the old Daily JP (you actually had to start and end the puzzle to get the reward). I certainly see no current reason to do JPs ever again (unless something comes along to use up my stock of Emperial Stars and fragments….). I’m not against this idea.
Shouldn’t the title be, “Words that mean different things to different players”?
I disagree that those all have a “clear meaning”….they may have clear “definitions”, but what they really mean to each individual can be worlds apart (mostly due to perspective of the individual).
I do agree that I don’t really see the point to pointing out words can have multiple meanings…..
…..
It’s a basic material. And so cloth should not be a bottleneck greater than any material of higher rarity, but it is.
But it’s not a bottlekneck. You mention at least 3 different ways to obtain it in you way too long rant about not being able to farm it like ore or wood. If you replace “bottlekneck” with “harder” your statement is still untrue. There is nothing in the game easier than opening the TP and placing a buy order….
Make sure you go back into the Hideout after the story instance to pick up the PoI inside….it’s often the one players miss doing World Completion (as there is NO way to see it from the map).
Not really luck (other than not buying the Precursor right now). More like perpetual (or very long term) farming of gold or materials (or both).
Or you could just plunk down a nice chunk of RL $ on gems, convert to gold and buy one….(now doesn’t that make it, oh so, LEGENDARY?)
Also, isn’t there a drop rate penalty applied just for staying in one area too long in an attempt to make people move around more?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but…
Yes….and most players don’t realize that loading into the same zone a day (or month) later does not remove the penalty necessarily (nobody knows the exact trigger to remove it, but it can persist over time if in same zone with same character….I can vouch for this personally).

From a previous thread on this issue (Anet employee response):
Professions do not have their own starting zones. A character’s starting zone is determined by the race that was selected.

There is absolutely NO chance they will abandon the DX9 using player base that currently exists.
It is nearly as sure that they will not revamp the existing (almost 3 year old) game to support an additional DX version.
The development costs to retool the game for a new DX version and the additional support costs to maintain both simply have no upside to the economics of running the game. I could be completely wrong, but I doubt it.
You do realize the AoE indicator being too small is a thing for our own targeting indicators as well, right? The indicator to lay down a Firestorm is quite a bit smaller than the actual white circle and damage even occurs a bit outside that white circle as well.
This is a general glitch that needs to be addressed as I feel fairly confident both enemy and ally AoE indicators have a common code base (but the could be completely separate). I seem to recall this issue (AoE targeting indicators size vs damage zone) being altered at some point in the near-past via a patch (or adjusted and maybe adjusted back?).
As for the general “stupid players” complaint, I’m not sure there is much to be done as my theory is there are players out there that turn off all chat and pretend they are playing a single player game (not that I have not been tempted to do the same at times).

While network traffic throttling can certainly reduce network loads, the idea that network overloaded is the reason throttling would be used is kind of cute. It’s all about the money and Network providers and infrastructure providers pay/charge for BANDWIDTH usage…PERIOD. It’s all about reducing that number over a period of time and the best way to do it is to turn on throttling at the highest usage periods (Prime time).
Dollars to donuts, your ISP CAN do something about it if you call them on it (and your current subscription plan doesn’t allow them to throttle you). It can’t hurt to contact them about the issues (but I would do some TRACERT that proves you are getting packet loss at some point causing the problem and present that to them).
Note that being able to play fine except for certain times during heavy internet usage hours (evenings for consumer connections) is a HUGE red flag that your connection is being throttled in some manner. Note that often it can be some error in the throttling profile (unintentional) that is being used during those hours an not the actual throttling that is causing the problem (and the routing error has to be brought to the right people’s attention to be fixed). Note that it is HIGHLY unlikely that Anet is the right person in these cases.

I’ve never understood why they have never promoted it (T3) to Exotic with selectable stats….it sure costs enough. Other than the skin (and AP / Titles), it is totally useless (yeah, I know this thread is about the racial exclusiveness of the skins).
The OP must understand that the armor skins only EXIST for those races and for Anet to allow other races to wear it, they would have to actually do the graphics and animation work for the other 4 races (quite a lot of work, despite what you may think). This is why you can’t preview them with other races.
Not saying revamping them is totally horrible idea, but it would require quite a bit of artist and Dev work and that work would take away from whatever they are currently working on (like HoT expansion or new armors, etc.).
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
There is a difference between a full revamp of the gathering system (silk from lave, etc.) and adding some generic cloth and leather nodes (like the home instance ones) into the game. Never said it could not be MADE to make sense but that would be a significant amount of work.
As pointed out, the REAL reason they don’t exist is the economic one. Just because individual players may feel they are “short” of Silk does not mean the overall material supply NEEDs more Silk and “cloth nodes” (no matter how they get put in the game) would certainly increase the overall supply in game.
When player post these kind of, “toss it all and start over”, threads, do they even begin to consider HOW this could possibly work in an existing game or WHERE the resources to even consider this kind of game-wide sweeping changes would come from?
It is not difficult to totally ignore the NPE Personal Story if you like (most veteran players that don’t enjoy the leveling process already do).
I find the SW zone quite challenging and a much better design than most of the existing zones out there. Yes, it is a bit of the “Orr” feel to it (potential for constant pressure and needing to be “on your game” when out in the field), but I find that fine as long as the player is fully aware they are not in Kansas anymore…..
I do agree that the fact that you can end up in an underpopulated map can certainly be frustrating in those types of zones.
Since the exact same thing can be said for metal and wood, I ask you why there are ore and lumber nodes in the game.
Because it makes SENSE that you chop down Trees and mine Ore? I know that sounds silly in a fantasy game setting, but if you think about it, NODES of Cloth and Leather existing in the game world is kind of “immersion breaking” (and I HATE that term).
but mostly this…
Because metal and wood have a huge sink in crafting rare lvl 80 weapons for the forge.
Cloth and leather dont have that extra sink.
I also think there are quite a few things about the crafting system Anet Devs would love to go back in time and change, but they realize that changing them now would upset a lot of long time player AND seriously mess up the current economic balances that are in place. Still, I think lowering the requirements for Silk on a Bolt of Damask would be done if they felt the Silk supply could not meet the current demand (and it obviously is).
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
The GW2 method allows you to use it on all characters once obtained (for trans charges, yes).
I’m fairly certain there was an NPC that could replicate any hat or outfit for a symbolic fee once you’ve unlocked it.
Not for quite a number of years. I think that got put in about 3rd or 4th year.
Legendaries ceased to be “legendary” the instant it was available for purchase using in-game gold. So basically, it was never legendary.
RNG doesn’t make something legendary or more of a “status symbol”, and it’s a large component of the crafting process.
edit: slightly rephrased for clarity.
All true and the reason I have never pursued one (that and most of them seriously don’t look that “Legendary” in any event). The obsession level I see in some players to obtain a Precursor/Legendary is simply mind boggling….
If a Precursor ever dropped for me, I might consider the long term goal of one, but I’d most likely sell it. I can use the gold much better than a non-status symbol that I don’t really find appealing.

Have none of you realized that the PS NEVER mentions what your class is, so there is NO lore issue with you being in the full existing PS story as a Revenant (beyond the Rytlock is the first one issue).
It may not be pretty, but the idea that they are going to do a new personal story / starter area for the new class is kind of silly.
I’ll be amazingly surprised if you simply don’t start a Revenant just like you start all the other classes now…..(pick the NEW REVENANT icon when creating a new character). All this over-speculation and posturing is pointless right now anyway.
Is your OS 64bit or 32bit? If 64bit, I would suggest adding another 4GB of memory.
I’m guessing your stutter may be from Windows going to the HDD for the swap file.
You can try to manually adjust your swap file size (rather than let windows do it…the default) and see if that helps. Google setting swap file size for your version of windows.
