Duo-able Champ\challenges?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

Here you go:
Champions: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_champions
Min-Dungeons: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mini-dungeon

Keep in mind that lots of groups farm Champs in certain locations in a specific order over and over (a “Champ Train”) and killing them out of “rotation” (the order the zerg / group in the area are currently doing them) is considered rude and may result in hostile reactions from the Train passengers. Note there are also players out there that enjoy derailing Champ Trains just to see the childish reactions from the riders (it is rather amusing to watch). While there are plenty of locations that may be running Champ Trains the most popular are in Forstgorge Sound and in the various Orr zones.

There is nothing wrong with hunting down specific Champs with a small group for a challenge, but it may be considered bad manners to not announce that the Champ is up in map chat, so others can join in and get the rewards.

Master mining pick in bank...?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

A lot of the older green master picks had no level associated with them, but they were tied to the level of the character at the time they were acquired.

Which means, you quite often ended up with ruined ore chunks. There was no way to tell the level of the item, if I recall. It was too big of a risk to use for mining ori that I just deleted all mine ages ago and purchased new ones.

That sounds kind of familiar from some hazy memory WAY back near release. The whole point of this thread was to end up with a stack of ruined ore because I was mistaken about what these were.

I’ve got a new Ranger I can put them on and stick to lower zones and use them up (or I may just destroy them if they start causing me issues), but thanks for the input.

I would certainly put in a ticket to get those items back.

  • Legacy Armor is great starter armor and USED to make BL key runs easy (not so much any longer). If you unlocked the skin for that armor before deleting, it may not be that big a deal, but you have to BUY that armor with gems if you want the skin unlocked in the future.
  • An 18 slot box, in general costs at least 2g to craft. Having an 18 slot box from the start does solve some immediate storage issues.
  • 10 Experience boosters costs 1100 gems and can be turned into 2 IMPROVED Experience boosters (that are VERY good items to have when leveling up). Nothing to sneeze at.

If partying up for LS2 content hasn’t dawned on you yet….wow.

I’m a mostly solo player too, but I DO have sense enough to recognize content designed to not be easily soloed.

I also think it’s quite unfair for me (or anyone) that wants to solo this content to kitten at Devs for designing the content of an MMO to possibly be geared toward a party of players.

Per above, it’s not impossible to solo, but requires some alternate thought and different tactics to pull off.

This isn’t GW2 and at the time GW1 did that (added 2 char slots with Factions), you could NOT buy additional character slots yet. As I recall they added it when the in-game store was added several months after Factions released.

Again, this is not GW1, so I’m of the opinion they are not required to add a slot with the Expansion (but it would be a nice gesture).

100% map completion advice/help

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

Yeah, mapping the WvW maps is better done as a long term goal WHILE you are doing all the other mapping. Those maps being your final requirements is going to be quite frustrating for a PvE only player.

For my own part, I do VERY little WvW but do know some of the mechanics and have played enough to know when to attempt mapping and when to just move on and do something else.

Here are a few suggestions:

  1. Map into Eternal Battlegrounds on a regular basis and if you see your server has control of Stonemist (the big castle in the middle)….RUN for it and map everything you can while you can.
  2. Per above, it is easiest to map your own color Borderland. Colors CAN change every Friday at Server reset….that does not mean your server WILL get a new color Borderland but you need to check and see every week.
  3. When your server color changes, also map what you can of Eternal Battlegrounds for that color (and possibly more).
  4. It is easier to solo map at off server peak hours. Note that this depends on how good the enemy servers are at 24/7 coverage.
  5. It is easier to map with a large group, but getting them to go where you need is far from easy.
  6. Finding some guildies or friends to roam in a small group (say 3 to 10) is MUCH more likely to yield good results that trying to solo roam WvW.

I’ve mapped it solo twice by myself and play very little WvW so it CAN be done. Don’t get overly discouraged and realize that complaining about being “forced” to enter WvW to obtain a mostly PvE title is not going to change anything….just do it. Also, keep in mind that players that mostly do WvW or PvP are “forced” to do a MUCH larger portion of PvE to obtain the same.

+33% PvE Confusion? Next, Buff ALL Condies!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

Overall, Conditions are NOT weak, they are just ineffective against single targets in group events. In terms of PvP and WvW it could be argued that some conditions are TOO strong (this is why the Confusion change was not applied to those modes).

Those players that imply the changes required to “fix” the stacking issue in Open World PvE as being “easy” do not understand the root of the problem and their statements that Anet “refuses” to fix it are unwarranted. I feel pretty confident that Anet has looked into HOW to fix the issue and has concluded that there is no EASY fix with the current condition system. Players “believing” there is an easy fix does not make it so..

This change was made to specifically help buff a quite weak (in PvE) condition to improve the option of using Confusion in PvE. (yes, mostly for Mesmers). Anyone that wants to argue that Mesmers were somehow OP in PvE will have a tough time doing so.

"No-grind philosophy"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

Equipping yourself in this game to be competitive has no grind. You don’t need BiS gear or Ascended to complete any of the content or compete in WvW. This is what I believe Anet is saying.

This has always been my take on the “no grind”, debate in this game.

No place in the game requires anything beyond EXOTIC equipment (really you can do it all with RARE gear). (EDIT: Ok, you need Ascended in some form for Fractals) The number of methods to obtain these tier of equipment is quite wide and requires NO GRIND at all.

Ascended and Legendary gear is completely optional (sans mid to high level Fractals) despite what some players want to claim.

Confused with the new salvaging.

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

You cannot salvage the following items (for the most part):

  • Items you obtain from an NPC for any currency other than gold (to prevent easy conversion of other currencies to gold).
  • Starter items and some story mission reward items.

The first item is a major concern to many players AFTER the wardrobe change. It basically means any upgrades (RUNES / SIGILS) added to items purchased with Karma or WvW Badges can only be retrieved with a quite expensive gem store item. Prior to the Wardrobe system, you could transmute the runes onto another item but now they are pretty much stuck there.

Moral: be aware that placing runes or sigils on non gold purchased gear is likely a permanent decision.

Master mining pick in bank...?

I recently ran across a 100 use Master Mining Pick (Green) that has NO LEVEL displayed. It was in my bank and I have no idea where it came from nor what it’s effective tier is.

There does not seem to be anything on the wiki about any Master gather tools without a listed level, so I’m stumped as to what this thing can harvest. I know I can try it and figure it out, but it just stuck me as quite odd that thing exists with no info on the wiki.

I’m guessing it came from some reward but I’ve been storing gathering tools in my bank since they went account bound WAY back so I have no clue where this came from.

Any ideas?

Windows 10 and DX12

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

From how the GW2 Engine works, I don’t think there is any debate that some improvement would be seen if it was re-written for DX12, but the odds of that happening are slim to none for a number of reasons:

  1. GW2 is a 2.5 year old game that runs as a non-subscription game. What would be your source of funds to do this work?
  2. GW2 is a fully custom Engine and thus the revamp effort would have to be 100% in-house work. This would take resources from further game content development (when they appear to be ramping this up).
  3. DX12 would require the use of Windows 10 (a beta OS as of now). This would potentially splinter the player-base and alienate some of the players.

As the game is relatively financially sound at this moment and has potential to be even mores successful in the near future with the HoT announcement, I find it difficult to believe you could convince anyone at NCSoft (Anet parent) that updating to DX12 has any financial feasibility or is any way a sound business move.

Yes, many players would benefit, but GW2 is a business and I can’t see how doing this would be in their economic interest.

It’s highly unlikely ANY game developer would attempt to re-write their existing game engine to completely revamp the performance of a 2.5 year old game. This is an MMO and not a FPS so running beyond 30-60 frames per second is not a huge issue for 95% of the player base. There are exceptions, but I would personally rather have the GW2 Dev resources pointed at new content (as my current performance is satisfactory for me).

Anyone expecting a 4K display to run at a HIGHER frame rate than what you can normally get at standard HD resolutions, does not understand how graphics in a PC work….at all.

I get that some players ONLY play one class or character, but that is a limitation that the player has placed upon themselves and the Devs (nor anyone else) has contorl over that decision.

From my understanding using a Macro for this is NOT ok (techncially), but it is doubtful Anet would notice it or care (as long as you aren’t using it outside of inventory actions. Keep in mind this is MY opinion and I don’t think enough of it to take the chance of a ban and do it myself.

One option that I have heard others use is to use mouse software to bind the click action (one action) to the mouse scroll wheel (or other scroll wheel on a control pad, etc.) and then you can simply scroll the wheel to use a lot of items….this should not violate the one key = one action policy. Note I have never seen any official “that’s ok” for this method either, so use the information at your own risk.

If they did allow for this, it would absolutely be a paid service of some sort.

The statement that is not possible (i.e. technically) is hard to believe. I certainly understand Anet not wanting to let this Jin out of the bottle….it would be a support nightmare (same with merging accounts).
