Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
You appear to have already skipped Step 1. Go back repeat step 1.
Major evaluation of WHY some players are playing should be made if your main goal in this game is more AP or a Precursor…..
(just my 2 coppers).
Every profession can stack 20-25 Might. Some make it easier than others, but every profession ‘can’.
I’d be interested to see you list the methods (without the use of Sigils and Runes (duration)) that EACH class can use to SELF apply 25 stacks of MIGHT (and I’m sure the OP would like to see them as well).
OP is not talking about cooperative stacking of boons, but self application.
HOW Aggro is obtained and maintained by the AI is not well “defined” as in other mob type games. There are a variety of theories and some seem better than others. From my personal experience here is what I feel is the hierarchy to getting the mobs attention (covered in the wiki article linked above):
If you are an Ele, Necro or Engie tossing down lots of AoE damage, you are going to get targeted.

The lack of waypoints is good. I wish, however, that there were more merchants on the map. Managing inventory is kind of a pain.
Dude……WvW Borderland. Try it.
I have. It’s boring. Because WvW is nothing but a boring, one-dimensional zerg-fest.
He means port to Borderlands, use the merchants, then “leave WvW”. Takes you right back to where you where.
But then you lose the map you were on and the buff for staying on the map (can’t remember its name currently).
Group with someone and go to WvW one at a time or at least one party member remains in desired map.
Just my opinion, but this really has NOTHING To do with MS supporting or not supporting XP any longer, but simply that XP 64-bit was a huge kludge that had neither proper driver nor application support from anyone.
Don’t do it.
As mentioned above, until actual production video drivers for the OS come out, complaining about game performance on a new OS is pointless….
Nobody is going to be pursuing good performance at this point.
I believe Anet should know and focus where the problems on Windows 10 are.
Your assumption that they intend to support Windows 10 is quite large. I’m not saying they won’t, but the are under NO obligation to do so (since the released their software 3 years prior to Windows 10 projected release date).
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
Full screen locks you into the screen until you ALT-TAB out, while Windowed Full Screen allows you mouse to freely move to a non-primary screen (so you can perform OS desktop or other program actions while the GW2 screen remains active on your other monitor.
I see very little FPS difference (Windowed is slightly better), but this highly depends on your video hardware, video settings (both in game and Windows) and your drivers.
Note that all of this is based on running via Windows OS (I have no idea about the MAC client, but I would think it works similarly).
Should be mentioned that the 2H / 2 upgrade was only introduced about 8 months ago….
I’ve seen tons of player that returned to the game after a long vacation that don’t know they can add another Sigil to their Greatsword…..
The only tip I have is not to hand all your hard earned gold over to Mr. Z. Usually turns out badly (for you, not the Flusher Casino).
I don’t even know what that is though? Should I google Image it?
You do realize that typing this question took longer than searching Google (or the wiki….link at top of page), right?
I’m sorry, but I must add that the “daily grind” issue is absolutely a minority issue in the minds of those players…. Should the game design REALLY consider some players OCD tendencies in determining what new content should and should not be introduced?
From another point of view, you are asking the dealer to limit the supply because some junkies will use all they are able….not a very realistic request.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
Certainly the party instanced stuff can be done like “flashback” type missions (similar to the historic missions from GW1), but the open world stuff presents a bigger issue.
Just my thoughts.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
There is a built in and simple solution to inventory (or nearly ANY other issue) while playing in ANY zone. It is particularly good to know (and obviously lots of players do NOT) in a zone that has limited waypoints (like the new one).
OPEN WvW AND ENTER YOUR BORDERLAND.
You should have FREE access to ALL NPCs large cities have (Bank, Guild Bank, Crafting, BLTP, etc.)
Best of all you can either simply log out when thru with inventory management or open the WvW dialog and click the EXIT WvW icon at the bottom right (Home TAB) and you will return to the EXACT spot where you entered WvW …. FOR FREE.
Apparently not many players know about this and I’m just trying to let everyone know (I played for over a year and half before being directed to this). Note that if your Borderland is full (usually Friday after Server reset) or your Borderland is being heavily attacked this may not be available to you.
As pointed out below, this also does not allow for you to maintain your particular map instance (but then neither does actual WP travel to a city and back). Note that if you are partied with others you CAN get back to an instance (most of the time) as long as one party member remains in the desired map zone.

Prove me wrong instead of trolling. That is my response.
You are making an accusation. How about you proving you are right?
I’m willing to bet if you contacted your ISP with a TRACERT that showed where your connection is getting lag issues (most likely some routing or throttling in the path TO Anet’s servers) something about your issue might actually get done.
Or you can post here and rant at nobody about servers that aren’t really you issue (and I am not saying that Megaserver does not have problems, just not the ones you seem to be complaining about).
How does the application of a semantic term to the current economic system make any difference one way or another?
If the purpose is to PROVE that Anet has ultimate control over the economy of the game where they run the servers, I think common sense and a bit of, “DUH!” can accomplish that with much less posturing and wordy commentary.
That seems to be clear to everyone except Wanze. We all know that Anet dictates the prices of things in the game because they set the drop rates, the demand, and the difficulty in obtaining items. Using those parameters players then sell the items at prices that they choose based on those factors. This happens in every online game, and is not a monopoly any more than mother nature has a monopoly on earth’s economy.
Just because I KNOW they have ultimate control does not mean I believe they “set prices on everything”. Keep that tin-foil hat on your own head, thank you very much!
My point was this thread is pointless…..as in it doesn’t matter one way or another if any of you agree or disagree that the term “Monopoly” can be applied to this particular GAME economy.
(and the only post in this thread that didn’t waste bandwidth here is JS’s).
Could Anet manipulate the TP behind the scenes? Certainly.
Do I think they are (or would)? Nope (but never say NEVER….).
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
Good….now I can use it without guilt (but I still have a dozen mystic kits in my bank….)
…..or give one of the unemployed NPCs that job (name him Fredrick of Sandford while your at it….).
They are running a business so you can’t really blame them (especially when they are ADDING content, not taking it away (like they seem to do occasionally)).
Some convoluted and slightly expensive method to alter Ascended gear stats would not be the worst thing they could add to the game….

There is a pet slot on the HERO panel now….are you sure you have checked that? I get you say you have, but this sounds like a misunderstanding of how the mini-pet system has been altered recently.
To be honest, I seem to recall having the manually move all my mini-pets (not very many) from the collections location to my inventory and then send them to the pet wardrobe, so I am confused as to how this could happen without you being aware of it.
Note that part of the update is that you CAN NO LONGER put mini-pets into the bank collections (only take them out now). Don’t fill up your inventory just to find this out.

I have various character pics that I took all across LA since the game began and when those pop up as my screen saver, I sigh a little bit…..
When is the last time you saw any currency on the international currency exchange put on sale?
I get the “gems” are not a real currency, but Anet MUST maintain the illusion that they are a currency, or their main source of income becomes unstable. Sales on Gems will not happen.

Per above, the real draw is continual meta-events (zone wide) in a LVL 80 zone. Also there are hidden chests during the sandstorm events that are popular to farm (note….you need keys to open them).
If you don’t enjoy (or can tolerate) the jumping puzzle / skills type of game play it sort of requires, it may not be your cup of tea.
Crafting can only net you 56 level at this time (unless you are going to go beyond 400 in crafts….which is quite expensive). If you have a LVL 20 birthday scroll lying about (veteran players only), then it’s not a bad option to get to 76 quickly.
Maybe I’ll give it a try sometime. Physical copies of the game are still being sold so I’d argue against that possibility that perhaps it installs the vanilla game then starts downloading the updates.
That’s exactly what it is suppose to do, but there have been MASSIVE updates since the game first released and it’s unlikely they have remastered the original DVD release (since no expansions have been released). It is also possible the DVD itself is damaged (or smudged) and is corrupting the install.
Just stating that there are a LOT of players successfully online with GW2 that have NEVER had a physical DVD install.

Yes, I said the driver is crashing. OBVIOUSLY it is the driver. But GUILD WARS is the cause. IT is doing something to cause the driver to fail. NOTHING ELSE I USE causes it, except Guild Wars 2.
There is not a huge number of players reporting this type of failure (which would be the case if GW2 was CAUSING driver crashes). Your assumption is based on your limited information and (IMO) is just a wrong one.
If you roll back the driver, do you get the failure?
My point is the assumption that this is definately a driver / software issue might be premature and incorrect. Hardware failures CAN cause drivers to need to recover as well. So can corrupt DLL file libraries.
Have you checked your event log for errors that might just lead to the REAL problem here?

OP’s options:
I get 2 and 3 are not likely nor what you want to hear, but getting Anet to optimize for AMD or re-write the Engine for better than DX9 is not going to happen….so….1 is your only option to actually play the game with your existing hardware..
I don’t think you can direct it to the secondary monitor, but that may be an undocumented (or just unknown to me) command line argument. Possibly some line you have to add in the local settings file?
Have you tried Fullscreen Windowed mode? That’s what I use for my dual monitor setup.
I’ve seen some posts on this subject here (but unfortunately, the horrific search on this forum makes finding it troublesome). As I recall, the player was asking about using the 3rd party utility that came with their 3D printer and if it was “kosher” within the EULA.
I do not recall the utility they were using, but the response was that since it didn’t give any actual gameplay advantage, there should not be an issue using it in terms of EULA violation. As I recall, the question of Copyright infringement on ANet assets was never specifically answered, but I don’t recall ANet ever being overly aggressive about that issue, so I doubt there would be any legal problems. However, keep in mind that the EULA DOES specifically state that ALL visual aspects of ANY GW2 assets are COMPLETELY and WHOLLY owned by Anet (not the player)…..so if they wanted to push the issue, they would likely have the legal means to do so.
I’d say Ascended WEAPONS are useful for ALL players but going for them depends on where your crafting levels currently stand. Ascended ARMOR is frankly a long term goal status symbol (IMO) and is only necessary if you plan to specialize in high end Fractals. It can certainly be beneficial in other modes of play, but is hardly a “must have”..
If you have lots of Alts to gear up with Trinkets and weapons, Laurels are needed more than those players that only have 1 or 3 characters they play regularly.
Even if you see no immediate need for them, per above, I would suggest keeping 15 or so in your wallet for a rainy day.

Soooo sorry! I asked about this and forgot to post!
Some time ago, it was noticed and reported as a “bug” that during cinematics, the “fidget” animations continued. So you’re seeing this exciting story bit about a dragon attack and, behind the scenes, your character is yawning and toeing the sand. It just didn’t fit.
So the animations were temporarily removed to be worked on and reincorporated in a way that allowed them to perform normally in the game but to stop (or maybe change) during cinematics. But getting to a place where the animations could be configured on a more fine-grained basis took more time than anticipated.
From what I understand, the team has the tools to reconfigure and re-enable the animations, but the team lead told me that naturally they’ll need to figure out when someone (or maybe more than one person) can be assigned the task. As it turns out, each animation bit needs to be reconfigured individually.
TL;dr: This change is coming, as soon as it can be scheduled and prioritized. Naturally, some matters that are higher on the priority list but this project will be scheduled as appropriate.
Not to stir the bucket, but are you saying ONLY the female human animations were conflicting with the cutscenes or that they were the only ones that seemed “out of place”?
I’m not trying to disbelieve what you are stating, but the fact that ONLY the female human animations are “removed” makes it difficult to grasp (unless it’s the “out of place” issue..which I guess I can follow…sort of).
OP is just complaining because it’s “different” than it used to be. I can get that, but this change has been in place for months now…..how is this a surprise to anyone (especially one that claims to be a long time player).
No problem with complaining it’s different and you don’t like it, but leveling is NOT harder than it used to be in any way.
NOW, once you get to the point of obtaining TRAITS, feel free to rant as that system is still pretty FUBAR (and has been much longer than the leveling changes). The few minor tweaks they have made to it since release aren’t even a dent in what needs to be done to even attempt to fix turning TRAIT unlocks into a gold / skill point sink.

I think a scavenger hunt type quest (like some of the recent backpieces) for the Legs and or Chest that opens up once you obtain the Boots of a set wouldn’t be a horrible idea.
Maybe only allow ONE set to be obtained like that (and the other would require to current AP levels). I can’t blame them for having some insane reward incentive to keep AP “enthusiasts” in the game….

How would it be any different to download the DAT file directly if the problem is YOUR slow internet connection?
If you connection is maxed out, Torrent can’t bypass that limitation (and neither can a file download from a website). The problem is your slow connection and I don’t see how that is Anet’s problem to fix.
If you purchased a DVD of an MMO with the belief that NO updates would be required that’s also a mistake on your end…..all games (and especially MMOs) have updates that are required to play (especially on-line).
I’m not trying to be mean, just explain that your issues are not something Anet can or will fix and your belief that they should is simply your misunderstanding of how you believe this process (playing an MMO on-line) should work.
As far as a suggestion to obtain the DAT file more quickly, I can only suggest you find a current GW2 player near you location and ask to copy their DAT file and copy it to your game folder (overwriting the one that is attempting to be downloaded).
I’d start suspecting the actual GT635m hardware at this point. It is either defective, improperly installed (unseated etc.) or simply configure incorrectly (possibly a BIOS setting issue….like shared memory size / allocation?).
A better form of gratitude might be altering the title of this thread (so it’s not so harsh a condemnation of a system you now “love”).
Did they ever fix the issue where certain players were causing MASSIVE lag and disconnects whenever THEY logged into a zone? I recall some thread on this forum documenting a player working with Anet to resolve the issue but I have no idea if it was ever fixed or not. If one player could get bugged like that, it seems reasonable to assume other players could cause that kind of thing as well.
The issue was definitely tied to a particular account (and maybe a particular character…don’t recall). This was about a month ago.
Bad news: I’ve failed to convince you that I am NOT crazy.
No….you failed to convince us you are not in some way mistaken. I fully believe you “believe” your Laurels were stuck……so I guess maybe we are back to crazy….. :p

There is absolutely no chance they are going to revert the Megaserver changes. Period.
If you have daily DCs, I’d start looking at what hanky panky your ISP is playing with your bandwidth (and possibly the other 29 WvW players that may be on the same ISP). If an ISP throttles your bandwidth, a real time connection to a game server will be one of the few application is will majorly effect.
There is also an issue going on where specific players disconnect entire servers of players simply by logging into that server (not intentionally…something bugged on their connection / account)….from what I have seen in the Bugs forums, Anet is still looking into this issue.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
635m is a mobile chip for laptops (unless I’m mistaken). This is on a card in a desktop?
If the Intel video is integrated into the chipset (most of them are), it could be getting better bandwidth to the CPU than the expansion card (if the card isn’t running a full PCIe x16 bus width.
On that note, make sure your expansion card is installed in the correct PCIe slot.

I have never heard that they send out ANYTHING to tell you why or how long you are banned (beyond the message that pops up when you try to log in). Now there has been an issue with that pop up box being less than accurate or having incorrect information so that is an issue (but needs to be taken up with Support via a ticket).
Keep in mind that Anet is under NO obligation to provide any details on why you were banned (tho I can’t think of why they would not tell you how long your ban is for).
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176
I seriously doubt the reason you have been perma-banned is because you used a proxy connection, but as mentioned above, you need to take this up with Support. Note that if another Anet staff member looks into this, they WILL be able to tell WHY you were actually banned.
Anyone that thinks their special snowflake “exclusive” item they got during a Festival is not coming back is in for bitter disappointment when it eventually does. Bottom line is that Anet has NEVER implied or stated that ANY items obtained from past content will never be available again. THAT is the only thing you can count on for certain (that they COULD be made available again).
Enjoy your “special” feeling while it lasts but be prepared for the possible letdown.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
This is a prime example of over-thinking something…..
If your build has lots of crit procs and the enemy you will be fight can be Crit, then Assassins MAY give you some overall advantage (tho it will not necessarily be pure DPS advantage). In all other cases, it’s been proven over and over that Zerk is the way to go for pure DPS superiority.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
You know you can counter the fear and knockback with skill 5 on the ‘zooka/flamethrower right? Or just use stability. But skill 5 (flame shield I think it’s called?) will also negate all damage from the Claw’s attacks.
….and as pointed out above, it should never go into full CD as you just have to slightly move before the shield ends naturally.
Yes the AFKers are annoying and I have never understood the mentality behind this type of “play” (other than simply lazy leeching).
I think you twisted the meaning of his words: There’s no way anyone knows which traits one is going to use and for most people it also isn’t clear who their main character will be. So saying that one has only to buy 15 traits is nonsense, even if not all will be used – but there’s no way to determine which ones that will be.
I challenge you to find any significant percentage of players that have EVER enabled more than 30 Traits on a character for any type of serious excursion into actual game-play…..that is LESS than half the available 65. I’d be willing to guess that 80% of players have never used more than 20 Traits on a single character.
Granted, this system inhibits testing and discourages “completionist” pursuits while being less than helpful to an entirely new player (that has NO idea what “good” and “bad” Traits might be), so I personally think it needs some drastic “tweaking” from it’s current state.
I see about half a dozen posts on this in this forum. Has anyone reported this via the in-game reporting feature? I know the Devs are aware of it (one responded in another thread), but the Devs that solve technical issues get direct info from in-game reports, not something reported on this forum (or even the BUGS forums), tho I know both are monitored by Anet directly.
Rather than arguing and debating on here for over a day, you could be playing if you just downloaded the client as suggested. Unless your connection is dial up or a Satellite one, it won’t take more than 12-16 hours to download the entire DAT file.
Now if you are not doing so due to bandwidth limitations on your connection, that’s another issue (that you failed to relate in this thread).
Your other option is to take your PC to some other connection and try the install (if the client is not detecting an internet connection, there may just be something wrong with your current connection).
