No process is 100% perfect. Start a ticket and I’m sure support will work it out with you. Coming on here and telling people to not buy gems is not a solution (just appears spiteful).
I’ve made dozens of gem purchase and never had an issue. I’ve even bought some items I can’t use and got a refund from support (so that process CAN work if you put in a bit of effort).
People who can read typically aren’t idiots. So, no, it isn’t. :p
The irony of this statement just drips off the words and runs down my monitor…..effin’ AWESOMENESS!!!
Seriously, the warning is there in whatever language you have chosen to display. Ignoring the warnings is a USER error. I’m still in awe of how this could actually happen….is the OP stating he did not realize he was logged in as the wrong character or that he was unaware what weapons are usable by what class? In either case, this is not an actual game bug and should not be discussed as if ANet needs to fix something in their code. If you think they should add something additional to protect the not-so-bright, that’s another discussion.

UIDed dyes have other sources than just drops, but I’m guessing rather than changing the Legendary the recipe, they will reintroduce UID dye drops if they become uber-rare.
Yeah, just like they adjusted drops of Silver Doubloons, when they came über-rare.
Or did they change the recipe for Vial of Quicksilver? I cant remember…..
Just saying it’s an option (not that they will use it). I agree that Silver Doubloons are an issue ANet has dropped the ball on. I quit doing LA chest runs with my LVL 20 (made just for that purpose) back during Wintersday, but prior to that, I was under the impression (no scientific evidence, mind you) that the drop rate (at least from chests) had gone down. I also purchased a few stacks of loot bags and got VERY poor results.
Needless to say, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that this scenario will play out the same way (tho there ARE other uses for UID dyes and that may make it even worse).

It’s quite possible that the Celestial time gating will soon end.
A blog post of “Removing Restrictions” is suppose to drop today.
Possible causes of lag:
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
WvW is the easiest way to “Exotic Up” your characters. Note that earning Achievement Chests generate Badges without ever setting foot in WvW (in case you don’t like WvW).
Crafting Exotics is relatively cheap when compared to Ascended Equip but still requires a significant investment in Crafting itself.
Dungeons are an option but the progression is rather slow (IMO) and the skins and stats available are limited. I guess the limited skins will not be an issue in a few weeks, however.
Map completion for higher level maps also gives random Exotic armor pieces.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
The name of (possibly) the oldest Pen & Paper RPG IS “DUNGEONS & Dragons”.
I recall buying the first D&D boxed set back in the mid 70’s (gawd, I’m old)…..
The nodes change each day at reset so you the maps need an update very day.
This information is absolutely incorrect. Nodes certainly CAN update daily (if nobody is in the map during off hours) but not because they are timed to do so. On highly populated servers, Frostgorge Sound map often retains the same node locations from patch release to patch release (I’ve seen it stay the same for nearly a month).
How maps work on any individual server:
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
Note that many hearts do not visually show up on the map itself unless you get within a certain range of the NPC or relative area of the Heart itself. You can easily check if you have missed any HEARTS, POIS, VISTAS or WAYPOINTS on ANY map by hovering over the map name….this will easily let you find the maps where you are lacking in map completion.
wtf..lol … i throw away a lot of transmutation stone (1-79)…
And the hoarders win this round…..
I don’t get the request for a refund….You are going to get 1 charge for each Crystal and 1 charge for every 3 stones. Unless you have a bunch of below 80 transmutes to do, you will loose nothing and GAIN charges you never had if you hoarded your stones…..
I do still have a few characters below 80 so I’m curious to find out how ANet’s new system will handle lower level transmutes.

Due to the nature of the supply side in this game, there are VERY few items on the TP you could even try to attempt this with. You cannot “corner” a market unless you can control the source. You are certainly welcome to try.
UIDed dyes have other sources than just drops, but I’m guessing rather than changing the Legendary the recipe, they will reintroduce UID dye drops if they become uber-rare.
What could very well happen:
-People will dump their excess unid dyes on patch day
-Other people will consume them
-Speculators will put buy orders, keeping a price floor in effect
= resulting in little price change in dyes
Maybe in the long run, but that first DUMP will plummet the price for at least a few days. There are a lot more people that will sell most UIDs for some quick $ than open them ALL up.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
Per above answers, but it’s gonna be expensive to do what you are asking. Likely much more expensive than another character slot
Until the patch actually goes live on 4/15, I doubt any direct questions like this will be answered by ANet (mostly because they are still tweaking the changes and answering something like this is just a “that’s not what so-n-so said …blah blah…” whine waiting to happen).
From what I read, any skin you ever equipped should be available to your characters (but again, I could be misreading what the article states).
Knowing what changes the nodes helps too.
Nodes can move whenever a map gets regenerated and this only happens when a player enters a previously empty map (actually, that is what triggers the map to be generated).
Maps that are frequented by many players at all hours on a server often only get regenerated when a new build goes live. A good example of this is Frostgorge on most servers (node farmers, Champ Train and Claw keep it populated most of the time).
Maps that don’t get constant player attention (often Southsun or some of the Orr maps) can have nodes move on a daily basis.
As mentioned above, sites like gw2nodes need players to constantly update and correct node information (especially the maps that tend to regenerate a lot) for them to be of any use to anyone.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
Just be clear (if you were asking me), I am not complaining and feel this is a good change.
I have made a good bit of gold selling UIDed dyes, but since it’s not a dependable source of income, I’ll get over it.
When the patch goes live, the price of UID dyes will plummet…not rise. You do understand that EVERY duplicated dye will be turned into a UID dye…the market will be flooded with them (I estimate my 8 characters will get between 20 and 30 UIDs when the patch goes live).
I can understand the OPs shock at how the GW2 weapon based attack skill system works (or appears limited) but while there are a few classes that are (temporarily) locked into 10 attack skills (2 weapon sets) while engaged with enemies, there is plenty of variation in other areas to prevent “repetitive game-play” (if that’s what you are looking for).
Ok, here is my take on what happens after the patch goes live.
Take unidentified dyes and either try to sell them (at a MUCH Lower price since this is going to GLUT the UID dye market).
- OR -
Open all of them and register the new ones and take the duplicates to the Mystic Flusher (or sell).
I’m wondering if you can still use them normally after the patch, however. Characters under 80 will be shafted if they can’t actually use the stones they have saved up.
What will quest completion rewards give out (stones or full charges)?
Interesting times, indeed.

Really? You think? With 20 million or so fans of their games? Why wouldn’t they subscribe?
I’m a major fan of Elder Scrolls and just about everything Bethesda has ever done (but not blindly so, they have all been flawed), but I don’t pay monthly subscription fees for games. I am not alone.

Re-seat the video card.
It will be interesting to see if ANY games (that AMD doesn’t in some way fund) will support it. This is AMDs attempt to differentiate themselves from Nvidia in a war they are currently loosing and I personally think it’s a desperate move at best. I don’t discount it may have technical merits, but no developer in their right mind is going to follow the first looser in the graphics chip race down an exclusive rabbit hole if they have a choice.
Then again, I’ve been wrong before… (and for disclosure sake, I’m a die hard Nvidia user).
Best policy is to use three or four unrelated words (or 2 unrelated phrases together).
Password Trivia: With a mid range modern PC, an 8 character (numerals, alpha & punctuation) can be guessed in less than 24 hours (average is about 14 hours). The same computer would need over a year to guess a 12 character password using only lower case letters. LONGER is MUCH better.
CS would not give you information about a compromise on another account. Your story does not seem to be entirely truthful from that respect (unless you are stating that the owner of the account opened a ticket with CS and they stated in that ticket that no compromise was made).
Keep in mind that if someone local to the original account owner (and on the same ISP) accessed the account, Anet CS would not be able to see a compromise unless they went to a VERY low level. If the comrpomise came from the same internet connection, they could never tell.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
If you don’t plan to play GW1 at all (it’s a great game, so you should consider it), it would be a lost cause. I’m sure there are certain HoM rewards you can gain fairly easy but most take some significant time investment….do a google search on the subject for details (I don’t even recall most of them as I haven’t logged into GW1 in at least a year).

Make sure the user hacked has changed the password of the associated email account. A hacker that compromises an email account will NOT change the password in hopes that the email will continue to be used and provide info that will allow access to financial resources beyond game accounts (something VERY serious). They will also monitor the email and delete all correspondence with support sites to keep the email owner unaware of their attempt to compromise other sites and accounts.
If you have not yet lost control of your GW2 account, CHANGE THAT PASSWORD (and possibly enable the mobile authentication).
Keep in mind that a hacker with control of your email account can get your GW2 password changed and have authentication removed with a simple request, so you MUST pursue an email change with CS (if you lost control of your email account), ASAP.
You should also attempt to regain control of your email account with the email hosting entity as continued use of that account by a hacker could cause you ALL KINDS of trouble in other areas if not halted.
I get that everything I listed above should be “DUH!”, obvious, but just wanted to state it.
You mentioned feeling locked into skill rotations and I think that may be part of the issue. While there are certainly ideal rotations to deal max DPS with any specific skill/weapon setup, there is no reason in the majority of this game (I’d say 85%) that outputing maximum DPS is EVER required.
I guess my suggestion is that you quit thinking about the mechanics of playing the game at maximum efficiency and play at role-playing the game a bit. If you are a min/maxer that just can’t stand not outputing the maximum DPS possible at all times, then leveling certain classes in this game IS going to get repetitive and boring.
Hope this helps.
Crafting can get you fast levels, but I find it a boring way to “play” the game.
Best XP is doing all the Renown Hearts, but if you are running around the maps doing them, it’s not much more effort to hit the waypoints, Vistas and PoIs while you are at it (clear the maps).
I don’t think choosing the Order’s action in that mission locks you that order.
I think the actual choosing happens right AFTER that mission. As I recall it is VERY clear when you are asked to join an order and your previous selections of which order’s course of action(s) has NO bearing on what order you actually join.
Also, note that you CANNOT guest back to SERVER A while a member of SERVER B and access the guild bank. Just stating this up front before you do this and guest back to pick something up and can’t get to it.
So you did this with 2 LEGENDARY items?
I’m trying to envision the thought process that would allow for this major FUBAR to happen twice…..
Anywho….as stated above, your only recourse is a support ticket (and good luck with that).
Did you tell them it’s your family name or just request it to be changed?
Every other instance of someone asking for a change based on a name has been honored (as far as I have heard). Keep in mind looking at your account name it is NOT obvious that it’s a common name that the average CS person would recognize.
Maybe this is just a misunderstanding and you need to clarify WHY you made the request.
Might want to look into mobile Authentication as it replaces the email one. Much less annoying to type in a code from your phone than wait for an email. Also much more secure (email accounts can get hacked).
That’s what I thought but wanted to verify.
Thanks for the response.
Due to some recent security issues I had, I enabled the mobile authentication about 12 hours ago (and it appears to be enabled right now when I look at MY ACCOUNT).
However, I just logged in here and to the game and was never asked for a code. Does the authentication only activate when not logging in from an authorized network or should it ask me for a code every time I log in? I thought it was the latter and that was the main reason I never used it in the past.
I wanted to ask this before I opened a CS ticket. Thanks in advance.
Glad to hear you did not loose anything but I suggest you change all your passwords (email account and GW2 account) immediately.
Just because all your stuff appears to be intact does not mean your account has not been compromised. Ask CS directly if they have detected any unusual log in activity on your account and change your email (and GW2 account) passwords.
Something similar happened to me recently and I suspect there is some reason accounts are being hacked, yet nothing is being removed (potential gold sellers trying to find semi- abandoned accounts to use?).

Yes, because the i5 is 2core/4threads, were the i7 is 4cores/8threads.
THAT makes a HUGE difference for this game. If that i5 was 4cores, then an upgrade wouldn’t have been suggested.
My comment was that you suggested a laptop processor actually COULD be upgraded….very few laptops allow a processor change (laptop motherboards typically have soldered on processors).
Also i5 /= 2 cores any longer.
People that build gaming rigs with i7s also think anything with less than +120 FPS is substandard video. Hardware manufacturers love those people.
Its totally going to depend on the LCD’s resolution. at 720P you shouldn’t have much of an issue and should get between 40-50 fps on medium settings.
If your LCD is 1080P you need to get a i7 (faster clock and 2 more cores) and upgrade the GPU to at least a 750 or 760.
Your advice is to upgrade a laptop? Really?
Resolution would not matter that much and this game does NOT needs an i7…. If the system is running 64 bit OS, consider adding another 4GB of memory.
You should be fine to run that laptop with GW2. You won’t be able to run highest graphics settings without some FPS spikes, but you should be fine at medium settings.
Thanks for the reply and I just wanted to make the suggestion. Thanks for listening.
@ smooth Penguin – I have no idea why you felt the need to verbally attack my suggestion like this. Have a nice day.
If you always use the TP you won’t get scammed. Simple.
That is Anet’s answer to your complaints and I can’t think of a valid argument against it.
I did not blame them, but asked that they consider changing their policy for changing a password. I get this is 100% my fault (and I THINK I stated that several times in my post).
My post is for someone to consider that this type of email compromise is VERY common these days and if a simple email exchange of information can prevent accounts from being compromised in the future, shouldn’t it be considered.
That is ALL I am asking.
Inculpatus – I agree the mobile authentication would have secured the account and I fully agree this an example of WHY it should be used. Again, this compromise is 100% my fault and I accept that.
Here is what the hacker sent to support and the reply (I’ve banked out personal info). This came from the “How was your Support” email that tipped me off.

Hello xxxx,
Thank you for your patience during our investigation.
I have reset your Guild Wars 2 account password and an automatically generated e-mail containing a link has been sent to your xxxxxx@xxxxxx.net e-mail address. After clicking the link in the e-mail, you will be directed to the Guild Wars 2 Account Management page to enter your Guild Wars 2 account name and set a new password of your choosing. For maximum account security, please use a complex password that is used only for Guild Wars 2.
If you did not receive the automatically-generated e-mail, please check any spam/junk mail folders, because some e-mail services might flag the auto-generated password e-mail as spam.
Please let us know if you still are unable to locate the password reset e-mail, or if you need assistance with anything else.
Regards,
xxxxx

I LOST MY GW2 ACCT, NEED SOME HELP!
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
I had an incident last month where my account was compromised, but fortunately the intruder did not do any damage (that I could find). While all that ended well (up to this point) and I did not need a rollback, the method that was used to access my account is very concerning to me and I apologize that I took this long to bring it up here and request that policy or something be changed at Anet’s customer support to try and prevent this from happening to others. in the future.
My email associated with my GW account was compromised first (I can only guess, in fact, I have no direct proof of this as nothing looked out of place in the email account (that I rarely access). This was 100% my fault as it was a decade old email account that I have NEVER changed the password on and I have admittedly used that password at dozens of sites in the past. It should have been the FIRST one I changed when I started using unique passwords for all my log ins several years ago, but since I rarely access the account, I never changed it. My bad and if I had lost everything in GW2, I would have accepted this as my stupidity.
HOWEVER, with only access to my email account, I still do not believe the hacker should have been able to send a single sentence email to GW2 support and get the password reset without a single question or verification of who the owner actually was. I GET that if the email came from the proper email address and did not appear to be spoofed Support would have no reason to suspect a hacker was pretending to be me and I understand they are busy and I’m sure they get those kinds of requests by the bucket full every hour but the fact that it was THAT easy to change the password still has me VERY concerned.
I had recently quit playing daily so the only thing that made me aware of this was an email from GW2 support in my email box asking, “How would you rate your recent support experience?”. I changed my email password immediately and had the horrid deep hole in the stomach feeling as I failed to log in here and my GW2 account. Looking at the email I realized what had happened and contacted support to try and regain control of my account (and prepare for a rollback (that I did not need). Ironically, Support asked me about a dozen questions that I couldn’t even answer all of them without access to the account (I’m guessing I got about 9 or 10 correct with some possible spelling mistakes on character names) before resetting the password again. My mind continually went back to the fact that if they had asked these questions on the original request, my account would never have been at risk.
In the end it all appears to have worked out ok, but the ease with which my password was changed still upsets me and I eventually decided to write this (way too long) post in hopes that this can be avoided by others.
Gaile, PLEASE can you request that support obtain some level of information to verify the user / player prior to EVER considering changing a password? Thanks for the consideration (and sorry for the way too long post).
As others have stated, this needs to be taken up with a Support Ticket, but keep in mind that if someone hacked your email, they could easily be logged into your email when they request the PW change and delete the notification and link email before you ever get a chance to see it. They do NOT want you to know the email has been hacked so they can continue to use it to try and compromise anything you have connected to it.
This happened to me about a month ago and the only thing that tipped me off (I am not regularly playing the game at this point) was the “How was your support experience?” email I got from GW2. I immediately changed the email password and contacted support to regain my account (that I was sure had been stripped and ravaged).
Turns out I either didn’t have anything the hacker wanted or he was planning to come back and clean me out at a future time (I had 100G in a personal Guild he didn’t touch). I couldn’t find a thing he removed or sold (I still had about 10 G in my wallet and over 1200 gems). Support told me he logged in for about 3 minutes over a week before I even knew what had happened, so I guess I got off lucky.
I’m not sure I want to discuss the events of how easy it was for the hacker to change my password via support in the first place. I’m still quite upset that he could send a 6 word email to them and get the password reset and I had to answer over a dozen questions to get it reset after I told them i never asked for the original password reset.
Bottom line is the email account I was using had an old password that I reused for over a decade, so it’s no surprise that account got hacked. Funny / Stupid thing is I had been changing all my passwords for over a few years so none of them were ever reused, but since I use that email account so rarely, I never got around to changing the password (should have been the first one to change since it was the password I had reused at dozens of sites over the last 15 years).

1: Change the email password of your GW2 email linked account.
2: Change the password here….My Account (that also changes your GW2 log in password).
The new passwords should be at least 12 characters and don’t us ANYTHING you have ever used before on any website (that’s how most accounts get hacked….reused passwords associated with a common email address).
That should keep anyone from being able to “hack” your account while you are attempting to get support to help you (if further help is needed).
On a side note, your account may be eligible for a roll-back, but the stuff or money in any guild bank is not going to be returned…. They don’t roll those back…ever.
Actually, the fact that the refund came through on your payment method may end up being a bigger PitA than the mystery itself….
Hope you the best in getting your account restored.
Did you open a ticket? If not, how do you expect for it to get fixed? The number of players experiencing this issue is likely less than 100 (not 1000s). I do believe there are specific workarounds for this type of issue, but I can pretty much guarantee you it’s not going to be any type of wholesale software update.
Have any of you tried rolling BACK your video drivers?
Might be time to start posting some version numbers (I’ve got NVida, so not going to be much more help than wild suggestions).
