I was there Monday night and didn’t see these.

I think expecting Anet to “fix” your “sadness” is misplaced. You DID exactly what all players need to do to “fix” the issue. Rather than ask someone else to fix the issues that make you “sad”, why not make it your mission to do something about it yourself. No doubt the reason behind what you did to help these players AND this thread are a start.

I 100% agree that the game is not a social as it could be but I myself am an introverted type of person (as are MANY MANY computer gamers) and being “social” with people I don’t know, frankly makes me uncomfortable and at times annoyed. Some players LIKE being alone and an anonymous player in the game and for them, nothing needs to be “fixed”.

I’m the first one to help someone when I notice a question or request in map chat (if I am able), but I’m not one to go out of my way being friendly to those I don’t know.

Sorry if I missed that info earlier. As I stated, I’m not sure what Anet can do about this situation as they have no control over what phones the authenticator supports. Have you submitted a ticket to Customer Support?

I agree, while this issue IS about securing your ACCOUNT better, the application not being available at all for you phone is defiantly a technical issue.

If this a general issue with Google Authenticator not being available on Windows 8 phones, I’m not sure what Anet can actually do about that. I did some searching and it looks like Microsoft themselves have a Windows Phone 8 application that works with Google Authentication. I suggest you investigate that route further.

I installed this this morning and it does seem to speed up my loading AFTER the initial first zone load when starting the game. It also seems to reduce loading screens in Skyrim in the same manner.

BTW, the new version works on ALL GForce chips (just the improvements will not be a dramatic or not possible on lower / older chips). I have a GTX660 based card.

Note that whatever is blocking the test would also block the exploit (the test attempts to exploit the server…it’s the only way to test it). Now that is not to say something was changed to block the exploit when the server admin became aware they were vulnerable. There are several ways to do this without actually patching and then invalidating and installing new encryption keys (the only way to truly fix the existing server).

Since this exploit has been open since early 2012, it’s difficult to say for sure it has never been used, but most security experts agree that it is highly unlikely (tho not impossible) some individual or group has been aware of it for any length of time (the discovery was only publicly announced on 4/7/2014), and nobody else on the internet not be aware of it.

It will be interesting to see how companies respond to these questions (if they choose to at all). Obviously, if a company is not using the OpenSSL code at all there would never have been a chance for it to be exploited, so I can’t see why the would not squash any user fears by stating as much, but due to the obvious legal issues that could arise, it’s difficult to say if any “official” word would ever be released without some “pressure”.

I posted some vulnerable server statistics I found on the internet on post on this over at the Account Issue form.

Investigated this a bit more and here are the percentages of CURRENTLY (as of late 4/8/2014) potential exploitable top websites:

Top 1000 websites:

• 51.2% do not use SSL at all
• 44.1% are NOT vulnerable (either don’t use OpenSSL or have already updated).
• 4.7% Are still vulnerable. (tests made 4/8/2014).

Top 10,000 websites:

• 56.8% do not use SSL at all
• 36.9% Use SSL but are not vulnerable.
• 6.3% Are vulnerable (tests made 4/8/2014).

According to my brother (web-designer and .Net coder), very few reputable business sites would ever use OpenSSL on main public websites. Above info seems to confirm that.

Personally, I find it VERY interesting that so many top websites do not use SSL at all.

BTW, I tested this forum and the account login pages and they both report an error that indicates a firewall or some SSL setting on the website side is blocking the testing and thus it would block attempts to exploit the vulnerability….so they are currently not at risk.

Keep in mind that this exploit has been present since early 2012, so this test does not mean the exploit was never possible. The exploit was reported to be discovered only 2 days ago (4/7/2014 at a security conference) and the chances are very low that this has ever been exploited in the wild and no indication of it being used has ever shown up on the internet before now. Security experts agree that keeping this type of open exploit a secret on the internet for over 2 years is highly unlikely (however they do admit that the fact that it has actually EXISTED for 2 years without being found is also shocking).

Just to be clear on what this exploit allows is that someone using it can systematically get raw memory data from an active SSL protected server and use that data to obtain sensitive information. One of the pieces of information that could be obtained is the SSL secret key….which would allow decryption of ALL communication to and from that server…..(ouch).

On top of this is the fact that the way in which the exploit works there is NO trace that the memory chunks were ever taken in any logs, so unless some code was actively attempting to catch someone performing the exploit (which would not have even been on the general radar before a few days ago), there is no way to know it has happened in the past.

Basically, my philosophy is that grinding sucks, and I’m playing to have fun, not just to increase a number that is, in the grand scheme of things, really meaningless to my life. So I just do stuff that’s fun, and GW2 is one of the better games out there for leveling while doing what comes naturally.

Well, I live by the rule of:

Making money relies on not spending money.

That is, never buy anything on the TP. May not be the most efficient way to play, but it’s the way I roll.

I suggest you ‘check yo roll’.

You can make money AND buy stuff off the TP if you are just careful about what you buy and how you buy it.

Laurels are a time gated currency that requires actual work to earn and we are just suggesting that you DON’T spend them unwisely. Buying any materials under the T6 box is shameful waste as they can be obtained in other ways much more reliably and with less rare coin.

Ok Thanks anyway! I thought that might be the case. I have been searching for hours now and haven’t seen one tree to harvest from. It is a bit frustrating but will keep trying.

A couple of tips on harvesting (and not just wood):

• You can zoom in and out the mini-map and look for resource nodes (but they only show up when you are relatively close….zoom out maybe one or two mouse wheel clicks).
• You can hover over the node on the mini-map and see what the resource is. This is not very important in the starter areas (as you only have one of each type of resource nodes) but in higher areas, being able to know what node is in what direction is invaluable.
• When you get closer to a node, zoom in closer and the node will display a small ^ or v if the node is above or below your current location. This also works for other mini-map icons (NPCs, story mission stars, etc.) and will help you know if things are below you in a cave or above you on a ledge. This is also VERY helpful underwater.
• If you are going out havesting, don’t forget to check your tools so you don’t run out halfway across the map. There is no reason to buy LOTS of spares (as you will earn some as story mission rewards). but make a habit of checking your inventory to see if you have the tools needed to harvest in the zones your are traveling to.
• Consider spending the gems on a set of permanent harvesting tools. I would never have suggested this before they became account bound items (they used to be soulbound to just a single character), but now that you can pass them between your characters they can be quite convenient.

If you do a lot of harvesting of normal crafting materials, you can sell that excess in order to buy your needed Fine ones. Salvaging to increase your Magic Find also promotes this method (and can generate Fine materials as well). Use your mystic forge stones on Mystic Salvage Kits as they give good returns on all salvaging (if you have extra forge stones).

I started at 20 (used a scroll and new char slot) and opened all 3 LA chests everyday on that character for over 4 months. NEVER got a copper doubloon (maybe I just got lucky in opening nearly 300 chests?)

Because some of us don’t go to websites and blindly follow instructions designed to just gain levels from crafting. You get MUCH better crafting XP for discovering than just crafting a previously known recipe. building 10 of the same thing is just easier from a material purchasing standpoint.

Actually that’s not true. If you can coordinate getting EVERY player to leave that zone it will regenerate the next time the first player enters it and should reset the event chains.

Now getting everyone to leave an area that possibly has a constant Champ train running is going to be a chore (but it SHOULD fix the problems). It may be near impossible due to new players.

We might be able to help if you are more specific. Assuming this is a bug (and not you just needing some pointers) is a pretty big leap.

I’ll take a wild guess and you are talking about the final fight in the escort event along the road in SW Gandaran Fields (along the swamp)?

What EXACTLY do your MONTHLY Achievements show?

Example: Mine show that I have completed Daily Achievements (requires four to complete, I think). I have 10 of 12 Jumping Puzzles (will unlock at this IV tier to complete the Monthly). Some number of Champions Killed, Some number of Salvage kits used. Etc..

I have completed several tiers of these but they are NOT fully completed yet. When I get their last tier completed, They will count toward the Monthly (which requires 2 completed until the patch comes out on the 15th).

I’m unclear on what will happen after the patch on the 15th comes out, but I’m hoping we get the chance to earn some bonus Laurels and get the Monthlies a 2nd time.

Are you sure this is a bug? I consider it a gift from heaven (if I don’t have to listen to inept drummers across all cities).

There is a difference between something being broken and not working exactly how YOU want it to. If you want the feature changed, there is a suggestion forum.

Keep in mind they have a list of “bad” passwords that cannot be used.

You may want to consider contacting support and associating your GW2 account with another email address as that account is now known to be valid, active and attached to your game account (so they know half your log in credentials already).

This is pretty widespread potential (MOST versions of OpenSSL released since end of 2011), so it’s certainly possible. I’m guessing the answer you are asking for is not one a company would ever care to answer voluntarily, however.

Go to the other racial cities and clear them (that’s about 10 levels). Go to each starter areas and clear them. I think you will be between LVL 30-40 at that point.

• Do Events as you run across them in these areas.
• Gather resources at every node you come across.
• Follow a set salvage policy with emphasis on obtaining Luck Essences (chance to get them from every salvage of Blue or Green items) to boost your Magic Find.
• Take down every Veteran you see.
• Try to get some nearby help and take on Champions in those areas (very unlikely you will be able to solo a Champion, but most can be taken down by a few players if you are careful and don’t lure them too far from their spawn point).
• At some point, check out the Daily Achievements and start doing them every day if possible (Daily and Monthly Achievements are the only way to earn Laurels). Also, unlike most “Achievements” in games today, GW2 actually gives you usable rewards every 500 points.

Don’t ever be afraid to ask for help in Map Chat….most player in Open World will assist you.

On the preview issue, it was stated in the Blog that you can preview EVERY SKIN IN THE GAME ON YOUR CURRENT CHARACTER (dyes included) from your account storage.

On the issue of “Hard Mode”….It is entirely possible that rolling out the MegaServer project is more than just a way to consolidate the server populations. One of the side effects of this project is that it would make “Hard Mode” open world zones VERY possible. Not sure if they want to spread out the population further (kind of counter productive to their MS goal), but “Hard Mode” zones could be part of the reason as it would effectively double the available open world content with minimal resource investment.

Actually, they should reward lower end runes of holding to encourage new users to craft something useful.

I never even looked into it, but can you toss bags into the mystic flusher for a chance to get a larger one? (That would be an option).

I think only the starter areas give storage bags (yes, 5 slots are useless)….I’ve never gotten them from any other Champions that I recall…..

Short version: Don’t do anything until after the April 15th update. Log in as that character and that should unlock those skins for use with ANY character (that can access that type armor). You can then delete the character.

This is 100% an issue with your CC company and your card settings and has nothing to do with making a purchase with Anet. It is likely you have some sort of setting on your card that flags any purchase made via the internet and may be blocking this types of purchases over a certain amount of money.

You can likely alter the settings by contacting your CC company (but some policies like this are part of your CC agreement and can’t be changed). Again, this is a CC issue, not something ANet can change.

We get that you are upset, but you need to explain your claims of a “waiting list” further.

Also, issues of account nature need to be addressed by opening a support ticket (SERVICES > SUPPORT > SUBMIT A TICKET).

While it’s not necessarily exciting, go to each race city and Lions Arch and clear those areas (Way points, Vistas & Points of Interest….no Hearts in cities). I think that will give you close to 10 Levels of XP.

Use the Wiki maps to assist in getting those cleared.

I would think it would be good Guild type research to check this possibility in most zones (I’m sure some have already done so over a year ago). I’ve done portions of the cycle the OP mentions with myself and a few other LVL 80s, but I’ve never attempted it as a “train” type of rotation. I really prefer doing these types of hunts with less than 10 players as beyond that it gets just too chaotic to tell what is actually going on.

Related sidenote: I did the Ulgoth chain in Harathi Hinterlands over the weekend and it was quite rewarding. Took a bit longer than 30 minutes and I think we took down nearly a Dozen Champions and easily more than twice that many Veterans. Started out with myself and 2 others and We killed Ulgoth with about 8 players. Great fun.

I think calling the transformations that will be available after the patch a “skin” is the problem here. No actual “skin” item will exist for the available appearances listed in your wardrobe….you will just apply them to your existing items (that MUST be soulbound if you have them equipped). While they have not specifically stated it, I don’t think you will be able to apply the wardrobe appearances to non-equipped items.

The reason for the 25 stack limit performance of the server. Keeping track of ONE stack on the world boss being fought is not a performance issue (tho keeping track of a zerg applying conditions would be taxing). You need to understand that the server has to do it’s computations and tick tracking on ALL stacks across the entire zone at once. In a relatively low population zone this would likely not be an issue, but situations like the Scarlet Invasions would require the tracking and computations on THOUSANDS of condition applications going on at roughly the same time (it’s not just players applying conditions, but enemies as well). Some of those Scarlet Invasions involved half a dozen Zergs across the zone with each of them going up against over a dozen enemies at times (if not more). The potential for condition stacks in such a situation is mind-boggling.

The assumption that Anet has no good reason for putting that limit in place lacks a credible explanation as to why there is a limit unless a technical one existed. I’m sure some of the tin-foil hats in the forum could come up with something but I’m talking about a reason that would be plausible.

The claim that condition damage is useless is only feasible in one aspect of game play. Large scale world fights (Zergs). In small scale encounters, Condition Damage can provide a potential form of damage (over time) that results in pressure to the enemy that direct damage cannot always consistently provide (i.e. it certainly has it’s place and can be quite effectively used). Discounting Condition Damage (and even berating it for even existing) because one single aspect of game play (Zerg) does not allow it to be fully effective is just ignorant of the myriad of other types of game play GW2 offers.

Sorry for my response came off snippy then, not my intention. Certainly pursue your case with Support, but nobody here (except maybe Gaile) can change the Support decision.

Like I said earlier I’m guessing that the issue is complicated by the fact that it deals with a Guild related currency and Support has always maintained the stance that they don’t touch Guild resources when resolving these types of issues. I think you have a strong case for some sort of compensation, however, as this is a KNOWN issue with Guild info lagging.

On the other hand, if the influence is still available, you really did not “loose” the gold (just playing the Devil’s advocate in stating that).

Besides # 2 being against the rules, I’d argue that no matter how much you trust someone that doesn’t live with you, it’s not too bright. Now that I think about it, I’m not sure living with someone is a valid qualifier either.

It’s a several step process (I recently did it and feel 100% more secure with my account):

1) Set up the alias with your email provider (could be different for each provider).
2) TEST the alias by sending and receiving email (to the alias address) from another provider / email server.
3) Contact GW2 Support and get your account associated email changed to the alias address.

Just some added info on personal Guilds so you are aware of the potential risk:

In case of an account compromise, Support will provide ONE rollback for the account…this will NOT revert any associated Guild bank items or gold in the Guild bank or any potential changes or damages to any associated Guilds. Basically, Guilds will NEVER be reverted due to an account compromise.

Just so you are aware of this potential drawback to using a personal Guild for storage. Note that I have a personal Guild bank and have most of my gold in one.

Did Support indicate WHY it was permanent? That information would be worth asking (and I have a suspicion you are quite aware of the answer or you would have included what reason they gave in your post).

Whatever the reason, Support is where this exception can be made, but AP is right that Gaile might be able to assist if a mistake has been made (but she needs the ticket #).

If the “hacker” was able to get his email changed, I’m guessing they have hacked his original GW2 linked email account. Your brother needs to secure that account as beyond his GW2 account, RL financial issue scan arise from identity theft of an email account.

Despite what the Dev posted in that other thread, several changes have been made to this JP. Whether intentional or just byproducts of the other changes made in LA over the course of final LS episodes, it has obviously had alterations. At the least they need to fix that horrific floating ground glitch before the entrance.

Know I’m very late to this post (semi-necro) but I noticed this as well a few days ago (have not done JPs since before Wintersday) and besides the above mentioned slide and slope / grass glitch outside, I think the spikes in the hallway / pit sections also had some severe timing alterations performed. Seems to be much harder to get thru this section (but I might just be out of practice).

While I get some players want to be “healer”, builds that focus just on Healing are of very limited usefulness in 90% of game situations. Massive healing is just not needed in the vast majority of situations. Now focusing on Healing, Crowd Control and Mass Boon application is a worthy cause along the same lines but unfortunately, Guardians do this MUCH better than an Ele ever can.

Trying to shoehorn a “Trinity” pseudo build into a game designed to eliminate the need for a “Trinity” does not make a lot of sense, but by all means play how you like.

Overhealing is a waste while providing more significant damage to the enemy is always a direct contribution to the overall goal…..kill more enemies.

The moral of that story is that Europe sucks….your money up.

many people are already duplicating dyes to get UNID dyes. i expect the price to plummet on the patch day due to the market flooded with it , but will go up again not long after that.

Everyone is assuming this, but what if the UIDs Anet provides us are account bound (PvP type UID dyes)? Not saying this is going to happen, but the response would be “interesting” to watch….

But how will those that bought a ton of dyes to duplicate and get the UIDs feel….(best laid plans…yada yada).

The issue is (or will be) HOW is the map named and IF characters will have any ability to somehow SELECT a specific map to load into. If the map is identified in some way, reporting of the nodes on THAT map can be done (and posted online). You will then need a way to ensure that you load into THAT map to farm the known node locations. I’m guessing that if your character joins a party with a member already in the desired map zone, you could then get to the right map. It is certainly going to be interesting (and maybe not possible to track and farm like we do now).

Also, according to the Anet’s goal here (higher population maps) it is going to be MORE likely that maps stay populated 24/7 and thus do NOT regenerate and move nodes.

However, they already have a map “rotation” system in place to remove maps from the server and start a new zone map (like when an updates come out). If they intend to intentionally make it difficult (if not impossible) to load multiple characters into the same map every time, they have the tools already in place.

There is way too much information we do not know to do much more than speculate on whether or not resource farming can be accomplished as it is now.

Don’t recall the name, but there is a very powerful utility tool available (or at least it was) that did some serious number crunching to show what crafting was profitable in near real time. The downside was you had to enter your account log in credentials so the program could access the TP and that is a risk I’m not willing to take with my account security.

The author of the tool is a regular here (found out about it in this forum) and seriously think it’s a trustworthy program, but I’m just too cynical to trust any 3rd party program with my account log in info.

I think the OP was asking if he had a problem before, why can he buy more now…..

Answer: they increased the maximum number of bank slots quite a number of months ago.
