Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
Actually, Celestial can give you the highest crit damage available (tho your actual crit percentage will be lower).
In terms of total bonuses to stats, Celestial is significantly better (but does not min/max a specific DPS method per the meta).
I wouldn’t actually consider the Ascended introduction a “fix” for the situation, but it is a work-around solution. I would still like Exotics (have no desire to bust my bank on the Ascended items) so I will just wait until the Bazaar becomes available again and hopefully those recipes can be obtained then (without an outlandish price).
If they are going to make this stat combo an exception to the normal crafting rule (requiring recipes for individual Exotic pieces), they should at least give us some method to obtain the recipes that don’t require a TP purchase (yes, they were a reasonable price several months ago…I missed the window).
Only harvest enough soft wood to get you to the next tier of crafting mats. Any you harvest after that can be sold to get the best of both worlds.
You do get that Ascended crafting requires this material, right? It DOES effect the highest level of crafting.
Nobody is being “punished” (what a ridiculous way to look at everything). They did change the raw requirements early in the game due to the over abundance of this material being available. It is harvestable in more zones in the game than any other wood resource node.
Why they have NOT changed it back IS a valid question, however.
…..
Would it really kill this game if I could purchase Ascended items with Badges of Honor or Karma?
I wouldn’t say it would kill it, but it would effectively remove a major long term goal from a lot of players lists….and that would not help it one bit. Nobody is NOT allowing you to play how you want….that misquoted statement does not say, “Obtain the best gear in the game (that is not actually needed) any way you want..”.
To be honest, I’m guessing that eventually there will be other methods to obtain Ascended gear, but for now, it needs to be a rarity item that is difficult to obtain and presents a valid long term goal to those that want it. It is certainly not needed (sans very high level Fractals) to play 98% of the games content.

Getting upset that 1 material to craft the BiS armor in the game cost you less than 3g?
Don’t see how that is a major issue that warrant’s anyone to admit anything.
Now the Light armor time gate disparity DOES beg a response from the Devs…..
Everything on at least high, reflections on terrain and sky, character culling settings are both low.
Not bad. So those Gen1 i7’s really hold their own still :-)
Gen 1 i5s work fine as well…..i7s are definitely NOT needed for this game.
Keep in mind the total DAT file size is about 18GB and the percentage meter is based on the NUMBER of files to update not the total size.
If you disrupt or close the update, it also starts the meter over at 0% of the remaining number of files to download but does not start the entire download over again (just downloads the files it needs).
Potential possibilities for the source of this lag (from your CPU to ANET server)
My major guess about most of these issue is that players are sharing bandwidth with other users on their connection to their ISP (and don’t take that into consideration as very few internet related operations demand a consistent communications to function properly) or their ISP is throttling the bandwidth during certain “peak” hours.
Yeah….having a hard time buying that you accidentally could type in your MAIN’s name to delete it. Open a ticket and good luck getting Support to roll back your account.

Sorry, but what you’re saying is not necessarily true. Sometimes taxes are implemented on TANGIBLE goods, sometimes on services, sometimes on both. In my province, we have both a Provincial Sales Tax (PST) which imposes a consumer tax on tangible goods, and a Goods and Services Tax (GST) which is a consumer tax imposed on goods and services. So, to give you an example, we pay GST only on legal services, but pay both taxes on a DVD purchase. In my province, gift cards are not taxed, likely because you pay the tax when you use the card to purchase a good. I can touch the card, but it’s not taxable. You may want to refrain from making sweeping statements about something you may not fully understand.
Why are you nitpicking what I stated when I specifically stated SALES TAX? There is not much room for interpretation there and I did concede that there are LOTS of different taxes in lots of different countries / locals in a later post, but that was NOT the issue here. The issue is how narrow minded and reactionary the OP was being about his stance that something that is not physical cannot (and never should) be taxed….THAT is certainly not true.
Look i understand Anet needs to make money, but denying a portion of it’s player base from ever being able to receive an item, that another player can easily buy with $50 is not good for it’s business model. It really is one step closer to those pay to win korean mmorg’s where you can only get certain items by paying cash. I refuse to play these types of games, and the reason i play GW2 is because i can exchange gold for gems to get items from the shop. If Anet continues making items unobtainable to players who don’t buy gems, then i’ll have to conclude that this game isn’t for me.
I don’t care if this minipet cost 4000 gems in the cash shop, if there isn’t a legitimate way to achieve this item through the actaully game Anet has failed a large part of thier player who do not buy gems. We paid for this game too, and denying us content is not a good step for the game to take.
You keep saying that you are BUYING the mini and you are NOT. You are buying $X in gems (that can be spent for many other things in the gem shop…or just sit there…yet available) and you will be GIVEN FOR FREE the mini pet. Saying you are buying the mini over and over does not change the fact that the statement is simply NOT TRUE.
If your argument is that some players don’t buy gems, then those players do not support the continued operation of the game itself. I have no sympathy for their lack of a mini-pet (that is being given away).
Making the assumption that you will be able to craft Dusk when they release crafted precursors might be a huge mistake. Nowhere has Anet stated you will be able to craft EXISTING precursors, just that precursor crafting will be introduced. What precursors are they talking about?
Salvaging karma items would be a direct method to turn karma into gold. Something ANet does not want and the in-game economy would be damaged by the influx of materials, upgrades and gold.
There have been rumors of an item in the database files that extracts upgrades from items, but it has not been introduced yet (if it actually exists). Most likely will be a gemstore item like the Transmutation Splitter.

If you have extra ones you no longer want, you can submit a ticket and see if they are still refunding gems for them (don’t know if that is still an option or not) but it can’t hurt to submit the ticket and see.
Short answer: Doubtful, but submit a ticket and try.

Ok….there is no way to delete a character by accident (you have to confirm it and THEN type their name in to delete). If you forgot to move the items to your bank, just say so. Open a ticket and MAYBE Support can help you.
They send you character slot item via in-game mail that you have to use from a character’s inventory.
If you have more than 10 items in your mail, you will need to delete some of them before it shows up.
making time-gated stuff TPable negates any time-gating effect in the long run. in the short run, all it will do is prevent everyone and their grandmother from having the ascended armor they can afford for a short length of time.
That’s the point. If you want it now, it’ll (usually) cost you more. If you want it now for multiple characters, it’ll cost even more. Likewise, if you choose to craft it (daily), it’ll take longer, or for multiple characters, take even longer.
I don’t see a problem. If I were wanting Ascended for more than one character, I naturally assume it’ll either cost more, take longer, or both.
WE HAVE A WINNER, FOLKS!
On the notification issue, what email provider are you using (there have been major delivery issues with yahoo mail and some with gmail)?
Does the Account Security page on this site indicate any unknown IP has accessed your account (is something you don’t recognize in the authorized list)?
Nobody knows the methods used or how they change or what they look for on this subject and I doubt we ever will. They rightfully want to protect that info so gold sellers won’t be able to get around the checks.
Bottom line is that if you put some reasonable note in the mail message, that will certainly help you get unbanned if the worse does happen.
But the OP was stating the point of this thread on the complaint that since the item being pruchased wasn’t a tangible physical product, taxes should not apply and that’s just short sighted hog-wash (from an uninformed point of view). I was in no way implying that different states / municipalities don’t tax different things (and at different rates) or that exceptions don’t exist, just that claiming something shouldn’t be taxed because you can’t hold it in your hands is an ignorant statement.
You do understand the concept of SALES taxes, right? It doesn’t matter WHAT is being sold (a haircut, a lap dance or a sports car) the fact that a PURCHASE is made requires that a percentage of that monetary exchange takes place is paid to the state (or whomever is collecting the tax).
You don’t have to be able to touch something to pay taxes on it.
I seriously doubt ANet themselves owns any (or pays for support) on any customer used hardware at all. It’s leased/rented equipment in some server racks and all accessed remotely by Anet.
Still, whatever storage they use costs them money on a size / time basis and allowing the collection tabs to stack upwards of 300% more items HAS to take up some additional storage (no matter what data type is being used). I doubt it is costing them exorbitant amounts of extra money and I also doubt the storage is free (so it’s all profit).
Upgrade is useful and worth the price, IMO.
……
The second you suggest they are making anyone buy anything, you no longer have any credibility.
Yes indeed.
there is nothing you need orichalcum or any other t6 mat for once you have your proffesion on 500 and craft asc-items
price was somehow stable for orichalcum cause people farmed it but stored it for the armor patch – now they unload it and price is falling
price will never go up again for any t6 material – so you should care
So you know all the Jewelry recipes already? Nobody will ever craft Exotics again (once they actually accept that Ascended Armor is only good for Fractals)?
I’m not saying the prices will take a bit of time to rise and may NEVER hit the price they were 2 weeks ago, but stating they will NEVER go back up is pure BS…..
I’m guessing those that chose to may be offered transmutation splitters to regain old armor (but I am just guessing here).
That said, condition damage also should not be reduced with 2 or more condi specs attacking the same target.
Right here, this one statement, is by far the one thing that is most broken with condition users. “Play the way I want to play.”, except that I can’t play in PvE groups and groups don’t want me because of my build.
This is a cop out. You CAN play however you want…..but how you WANT doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed to be desired by other players. I’m not saying some sort of change or solution doesn’t need to be investigated, but turning this issue into some sort of, “ANET LIED TO ME!!!”, situation is pathetic.
As I have stated before, Precursors (and completed Legendary weapons) should NEVER have been sellable on the TP. There is nothing “Legendary” about buying Excalibur in a Bazaar…..
My legendary coin collection, including many legendary coins, was almost entirely found at bazaars, yard sales, and similar sales.
“Legendary” is not a description of the acquisition process, it is a description of the item and its capabilities/features.
And yet you used it to describe your coin collection? Gotcha.
I believe the use of “Legendary” in this context is to imply that the item (or the acquisition) was such that songs, stories and poetry were written to pass the information on to future generations (with embellishments, exaggerations and fiction added…much like your coin collection, no doubt
).
They obviously DON’T want 20 damask a day being made for whatever reason but lets all be realistic, the only reason anyone would do this is to sell the materials on the TP and cash in. Seriously, if someone had the situation I mentioned above, they would NOT be making 20 sets of Ascended….they would be making one set 20 times faster (then possibly multiple sets after). Those 2 reasons are the obvious reason why they don’t allow it. Sure the guy with 20 characters can get Ascended armor, but is it fair he could do it 20 times faster than a player with one character? See how that logic twists both ways?
I have 10 characters and see both sides of this. Alt-aholics have a clear advantage in material gathering (both nodes and once per day items) and Anet felt that advantage (and the possibility of abuse) was too high in this case. To be honest, I have no intention of pursuing Ascended armor as I don’t do Fractals and see no reason to need it.

Not to derail this, but why not post this in the Dungeon forum?
2. Guild Wars 2 has a stop. There won’t be another tier after ascended as officially announced during interview.
There were also equally official statements that the vertical progression will continue, and that they definitely intend to raise the level cap. And of course that tier itself got introduced by going back on previous official statements, so no, i would not put too much faith in it.
Beyond introducing Legendary Armor and Jewelry, I’d put a LOT of faith that there will not be much (if any) further progression. If they seriously wanted endless gear grind, they would have introduced two or three new tiers for gear in this first year…not just one.
It amazes me how some players (not necessarily you) just go out of their way to look at the negative side of everything ANet does. I at least attempt to take a balanced view of what they are trying to accomplish before assuming they are just out to get me.
Why do you guys keep playing their game if you are so convinced they are evil, greedy monsters trying to screw over players with every action?
Did you just compare the Best in Slot equipment to a Mustang? Really?
Both are really nice things to have. Wanting BiS could be compared to wanting a luxury item.
No….compared to wanting nearly the BEST luxury item (and a Mustang IS NOT that). Sorry, but I consider it hilarious you consider a Mustang a “luxury” item at all, but I don’t want to be mean (but I do have at least a dozen jokes churning in my head right now). Thank you for amusing me (it’s not difficult).
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
Unfortunately, this is “working as intended”.
Anet wants us to work for “character progression” but as usual there is no reward for doing so.
First, the reason this is in place is to keep players with 20 ALTs from making 20 of these in a day (yes, I know having that many characters with 450 crafting is unlikely, but it IS possible). It is very likely that this restriction will be modified in some manner after some period of time.
Second, your suggestion that the crafting result is not a reward is part of the problem with all these whinny complaints.

You have changed the login for the email account you suspect is compromised…right?
There is a sticky thread in this forum to ask for assistance if you feel your ticket is overdue for a response (they usually ask for 3 days to answer before investigating). Post your ticket # in there.
If you cannot log into this forum with your log in credentials, you must have been compromised and your first request should have been for ANet to disable your account (but that would NOT prevent you from logging in here).
Did you just compare the Best in Slot equipment to a Mustang? Really?
I have a few Celestial Insignia in my bank due to forgetting this fact….I’m hoping that Bazaar of the Four Winds is up for return in early 2014 so I can possibly obtain some recipes cheaply and then use them.
Yeah….I have to agree that this feature would devalue one of the few things that even comes close to making me consider going after a Legendary…..
Even if they considered this, it would need to be much more costly & cumbersome a process than the current Legendary change process (to maintain some disparity between them).
IDEA: MF Recipe – Ascended item and 3 Exotic of same item ALL with same stats you want to change to.
Precursor crafting is a very complicated problem because they have to find a way to implement it without destroying the economy or making legendaries too common. Considering the next feature update is in march this will be the earliest you will see this happen. Wait another 3 months then necro the thread again
You are assuming the Precursors that we can craft will be EXISTING ones…..ANet has never stated that (only that SOME Precursors will be craftable). There are plenty of ways they can go with this and they will likely make every attempt to maintain the existing Legendary weapons as rarity items.
As I have stated before, Precursors (and completed Legendary weapons) should NEVER have been sellable on the TP. There is nothing “Legendary” about buying Excalibur in a Bazaar…..
Some people can’t even afford Exotics. So Casuals should be thankful for being geared in all Exotics in the first place.
Exotics are not difficult nor overly expensive to obtain with more than enough sources available. I have 8 characters (6 at 80) and NONE of them have ALL Exotics (tho I’m working on it). I have a few that are pretty close (but I refuse to craft Exotic Jewelry when Ascended are obtainable and Jewelry to 500 has yet to be released.). A couple are still in full RARE armor and are just fine for most PVE situations.
I tell you right now you ungrateful little brats, back in the day we couldn’t just grab us a roll of cloth and smear some blood on it and call it ascended or infused or whatever you dang kids are calling it these days. We had to do it like MEN! We stormed up a mountain in the middle of winter carrying the gear we wanted to infuse with us just to talk to some old hag so ugly she’d make your eyes puke, only to have her direct us to some vile, nasty beast we had to kill, slice open and carefully remove some despicable organ full of some reeking goo and carry it back to the hag so she could smear it on our gear while we stood around in the bone chilling cold waiting, then wear that stinking gear back to town while it dried! Half the time half the party would wind up half dead, and the other half wholly half dead! We did it like MEN and were proud of it! You brats have it easy these days! Now git off my lawn! I’m going to take a nap and expect QUIET!
…and we LIKED IT!!!
…..
Transmutation stones need to be upgradeable to crystals in the mystic forge.
Preach on!
Let us toss 4 Stones for a rare chance for a Cyrstal or maybe a set promotion recipe like materials.
“Fixed a bug that caused Charged Quartz Crystals to drop instead of Quartz Crystals.”
From tonight’s latest patch notes, it might be a good time to re-purchase quartz since its still selling for about 1.2s, that is if you didnt get all the cqc you could ever need already while it was bugged.
Why?….just go farm some gifts. I can understand some people that knee-jerked and used all their Charged QC to level crafting being POed at this change….errrr bug fix.
Quartz price has slightly recovered but it’s still down from pre-patch.
We know Anet prefer heavy classes to light, ……
You really typed that….and believe it?
shakes head and wanders off into the morass of these forums
I’ve often thought that a method to “gift” account bound items to another account (not sell) would be a great idea, but I guess it has too much potential to be abused to bypass the TP. I guess this would also loose some Gem Store sales, so it’s never going to happen.
850 big gifts= 150 quartz crystals.
Finger in the face to us!
I still don’t get how this is anyone flipping you off.
You GOT your quartz early and could have used it for Exotics or whatever (way ahead on forging Charged Crystals). Now if you were speculating on raw Quartz going up on the TP, I guess I could understand being POed bout this situation, but to be so upset that an alternate method to obtain a hard to come by material is ADDED to the game (nobody took away your Quartz node) is just baffling to me.
spending a month to make 6 celestial is really waste my time
How long have you been using the Celestial items (that you would now have to wait to get charged crystals to craft….starting a few days ago)?
This entire train of thought is just so twisted to me (and I have crafted at least half a dozen Celestial items….and been using them for months).
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
I get you may want to salvage it (and I support them adding that ability to the game), but I think you CAN transfer it to another character with the proper steps and transmutation items.
Also, the weapon is not absolutely useless….you just don’t want to run that build any longer since it’s not potentially as good.
Why are you acting so entitled? Why in the world would you think that you should be able to have Best-in-Slot gear by the time you reach level 80? /s
i dont know that the sentiment the OP is expressing is entitlement. at least, thats not how i took it.
ANET and the guild wars franchise has always taken the stand that their games are not a gear grind (grind and grind to get the best gear which offers significant advantages to those with over those without). What the OP is saying (IMO) is that they feel ascended gear DOES offer a significant advantage. And that for most, that advantage is out of reach.
I also didn’t take the OPs statements as “entitled”….just a bit whinny.
I think the assumption that ANet implied there would never be ANY gear grind is misquoted and not entirely true. I’ve always taken their “no grind needed” statements to mean just that…..you don’t NEED to grind to play the game (and in my honest opinion, you do not). I’m not sure how ANY MMO would sustain itself without some level of available grind for those that WANT to have a long term goal but I tend to dislike the term GRIND being used for that as if I ever feel that I am being forced to do a task to accomplish something, I’m not going to do it (I have enough of a JOB in RL).
Here’s how I see the current Ascended equipment:
From my view, none of the Ascended gear is required to play high end zones, Dungeons (sans high level Fractals) or even WvW (tho roamers could benefit more than most other). It’s a valid long term goal and while I don’t doubt some “exclusion” may present itself in party required aspects of the game, those doing so are being unreasonable as the advantage is negligible when compared to the skill (or lack of skill) the player brings with them. Another party with less narrow minded players will always be available to join eventually.
I’ve taken notice that a lot of these newer gold sellers are fresh accounts with 0 AP, doing their whispering from their races’ starting instances. Any chance to neuter some whispering sellers by restricting whispers from the five starting instances? This would force gold sellers at least go through the first 5-10 minutes of the game before they could commit an offense…perhaps slow them down a little.
Along those lines, here are my suggestions:
Don’t know if this is possible, but it might make this new practice such a chore that gold sellers quit using it.
I’m sure this change will be in some way revised as it is their “starting point” to try and address a very serious issue that has been in need of some solution for quite a while. I’m not 100% sure of the details of the new dishonor system, but I believe they give you several “oops” incidents during a period of time before a PvP ban goes into effect. How many times should they let you mess up 9 other players before taking some action? Is 48 hours too much? Not enough? I think those are questions they will need to work out, but I doubt anything is going to reverse one particular issue.
BTW, this is NOT actually an account issue, but a PvP issue. Nobody here has the authority to “reverse” a new policy (that would require a support ticket).
GW2 seems to be very unforgiving with marginal power supplies and defective memory. I had an instance about a year ago where I was seeing only GW2 cause issues (BSOD, lockups, etc.) and even tho every memory test program I ran checked out, replacing a DIMM completely cleared up the problem. (I.E. Memory test programs are not infallible).
Just for a quick sanity check, have you reseated your memory and / or video card? I’ve seen that fix more than a few similar issues on various tech support forums.
