I recently started collecting mini’s and I have a completionist attitude, I would love to have Mr. Sparkles, but I can’t so easily go to Gamescon. I would like it if they put him in the gemstore for 500-800 gems or whatever as well for a limited time.

So you don’t get the mini….accept it and move on. Maybe they will put it on the Gem Store in a few years, but I doubt it. Anet has put out exclusive mini’s since the start of GW1 and the several extremely rare ones have never been available in any other way.

Nobody is intentionally provoking your ADD tendencies, they just want to reward those that went to a convention event with something special.

Not sure why people are upset that some items can be “exclusive”. These are novelties, not anything that is required to play the game (you know…what you PAID for). How is it wrong for ANet to reward supporters that went to a convention event?

Overflow is not counting toward achiev

I’ve only done 4 events, 2 in overflows and seen no issue (knocks on wood). There is obviously some undiscovered issue that has do with event completion that Anet needs to look into. I’m hoping all of you are submitting reports every time this happens and not just showing up in this forum complaining. The only way it will get fixed is if enough people report the issue.

Or even worse..when the client crashes as it tends to do quite often. I was 35 mins into the event and so, got no final reward or any progress on the achievement/quest line

My client has NEVER crashed….you have some technical issue that needs sorting. I’ve certanly had network lag issues (son streaming a video or downloading something) and certainly had ISP connection issues that knocked me off, but the Client itself is quite stable on my hardware.

It would be nice if they put in place a reconnect feature like they did in GW1….but I think it was like 2 years into the game before they figured out how to do it properly. I’m guessing that’s a bit more difficult to do with +50 clients connected to a world rather than 8 connected to an instance…..

PvP is a lot more skill intensive.

Of course it is….No where in any of my posts have I denied that as a fact.

But it’s not really a playstyle since you’re pretty much pretending.

I fail to see how it is pretending as you ARE actually playing (and in fact, likely killing things faster than another “non-pretending” play style ? ). I seriously think you have a slightly twisted definition of the term “playstyle” that is the root of our disagreement (mostly semantics as I see it). I doubt I can alter your “definition”, so we will just have to disagree on this point.

Most people on this forum are like talking to a brick wall so that’s why I don’t waste my time being respectful.

I certainly understand the difficulty of “suffering fools”, but should you really be posting in this forum with that attitude? That is certainly your choice. Good luck with that.

If you already have the bags, their contents were RNG determined when you got them, not when you open them so if DR effects bag contents, it’s too late to worry about it now…..just open them.

How exactly DR works (or how it is stealth changes from build to build) is something ANet will never discuss the details of, but I’ve read Dev posts that state DR ONLY effects what drops from a foe when you kill it. Again, that could have been changed, but that’s the info we have to go on. BTW, anyone other than a Dev that states they KNOW how DR works is full of it….nobody knows for sure and some of the “statistics” I have seen aren’t something I would bank on. Kind of like how I’m not sure global warming proponents are the best source of data to support global warming…..

I’ve never heard anyone say, " WTF? I just opened a stack of Heavy Bags and after 50 I started getting less stuff!"

I would have to agree that Thief is the least supportive character, but only because their support is nearly all damage mitigation rather than direct support (healing / condition removal, etc.). The Theif’s support is AWESOME when combined with some of the more direct support classes (Ele, Guardian, Eng) and should NOT be dismissed as undesired, however.

Just to be devils advocate, Warrior is much more versatile and can offer a much more varied experience than a Guardian (but lacks as much overals support to other players).

I don’t think ANY class is garbage in PvE (sans Dungeons). Rangers have some issues with hard hitting encounters, but other than that, they can all hold there own.

If you want to do a little bit of farming along the way to collecting the gold needed to buy them, though, Skelks in the Shattered Ice Flow in Frostgorge Sound drop Powerful Bloods with some frequency.

True, I ran thur there last night after finishing an Invasion Event and picked up a few rather quickly. Still, 250 would be quite a pain.

I think calling the Player Model options “culling” options is confusing as they actually have NOTHING to do with the server side process of Culling. They turned Culling OFF so nobody has any control over that feature (and actually never did).

Now how exactly the user setting for the Player Model options sliders now work is something I’m not entirely sure of as they have recently changed them and the update notes are not real clear (they imply they only took the WvWvW text off the setting name).

As a side note.. you do realize you can only get the completion reward once a day, right?

I got it twice out of two invasions last night (And I didn’t even get home from work until after the daily reset, so it wasn’t due to that) so I’m not sure that’s true.

Isn’t it one map per day per map zone? I have no idea how the maps repeat or are chosen for invasion.

Make sure you first port to a WP near an exit to the zone. If you are in an overflow that does NOT appear to have an event, then EXIT the zone (via the portal) wait a few minutes and then re-enter the zone (try this a few times over the next 10 minutes to try and get in an overflow that has the event).

I’m guessing this issue may be due to overflow zones existing prior to the event starting in the home zones. Has anyone been in an actual home zone when the event started up? Just wondering how that happens (do the events just start showing up or what?).

I’m pretty sure that Vorrp’s achievments have no bearing on success of your intended event. I got seperated from the Zerg’s in my last event and was far away from the action when the event ended….I think we succeeded and it counted toward the 5 needed.

From some of the posts around here, there seems to be some yet unidentified bug some players are experiencing where they are not getting credit for the events they are doing. Due to this fact, I’m guessing there will be another forced patch sometime today.

I get everything the OP is saying, but why should a casual player (1-2 hours per night, 5 nights a week) expect to get every meta achievement? They can certainly get many of the achievements, but to get the “biggies” they either have to put in a bit more “hardcore” effort, or realize not every achiement is obtainable by “casual” play.

I’m not far from this casual category myself, but if I want the extra points and rewards, I realize putting in a bit of extra time is required.

We need culling back

My system only shows the “holder” player models for a very short while…. longest I’ve ever seen is about 20 seconds (at the bank in LA….must be 50 players in a huge ball around him)….they usually load much faster). I haven’t touched my settings for this (AFAIK). The nameplates ARE a big off-putting, but they can be turned off (and I do at times). I’ve never seen a player nameplate with that setting turned off (unless you mouse over the player or target them).

I think a lot of this issue is simply confusion over the settings that we have available and using them to suit what each player wants. From my understanding, culling is a server side process and cannot be turned ON/OFF for individual clients (players).

At the moment, I like the changes and from the way ANet announced this change, I think this was more of a “test” than an absolute permanent change. Still, I’d vote to keep it if someone asked me.

BTW, I’m running a 2 year old i5 dual core system and the one thing that really improved my performance was upgrading my memory to 16GB (obviously, 64 bit OS is a must here) and turning off my swap file (not suggested if you run a lot of background processes with GW2, but it’s just a reboot away to test it). While you are there, I suggest doing a defrag with no swap file and then turning it back on if you need to. Not sure how much performance increase you are going to see if your swap file is on an SDD, however.

I’ve only done 2 and the first was an overflow and we did have an event. As far as I understand if the overflow is created within 10 minutes of the original event starting, then it generates the event. That is not to say there is some limit on the number of Overflows that can have events going at the same time.

I DO think an ANet Rep needs to do a blog post or something to let everyone KNOW how this is supose to work and possibly come up with some way for us to determine (In game, hopefully) if the zone we are in is going to host an event, or if we are just SoL and need to try again in an hour.

BTW, both events I’ve done ended saying Scarlet was driven out of the zone….does that mean they were successful or not? The rewards seemed to be the ones you get for success, but having never seen a different outcome yet, I’m not 100% sure.

I have no problems with this complaint as there could have been some attempt to force the client disconnect for patch loading during the 15 minutes an event is NOT in progress. However, asking for some sort of compensation for them patching the game and interrupting the event is absurd….it’s a single event in a long line of them for the next 14 days.

Short of Crafting (which requires some money), the best XP in the open world are the Renound Hearts. Use your staff to move quickly (as you can) from Heart to Heart and do them as fast a possible and you will advance fairly quickly. This will also give you lots of waypoints to go back and clear the areas later.

Turrets HAVE been massively bugged since release (some of the issues were fixed and then broken again 3/2013). To be honest, if you are aware of all of them (there’s a thread in the Eng Forum), why would you ever consider using any of them sans Healing? (I don’t think that one is bugged, but only because it doesn’t actually “attack” anything).

I will say that I’ve never seen any public comment from a Dev that acknowledges these myriad of skill bugs, but the above might indicate they are thinking of fixes the broken turrets.

I have no doubt that Precursors can be possibly be cornered, but I challenge anyone to identify another item that can.

Frankly, Precursors should not be possible to trade on TP and ANet made a mistake allowing them to be. The problem is their extremely limited supply potential (due to only being available by MF or very low % drop). This very limited supply and being sellable on the TP is what makes them “controllable” (abet, requiring VAST sums of gold to do so). Unfortunately, those that have those funds will just gain more while doing this. Still, I have no evidence to support this is happening and I doubt ANet is going to admit it is.

I don’t think there are any other items that have such a high end-game demand, are TP salable and have a very limited source. Precursors are an anomoly on the TP and it looks like ANet is going to fix this by allowing them to be crafted. I still think they need to Account Bound them, but that will PO a lot of people currently seeking Legendary Weapons.

Believe it or not, the Guardian scepter #1 skill is has the most ranged DPS of any aut-attack skill (vs a single target….Theives shortbow #1 can throw up some nasty numbers in a crowd of foes). This was confirmed by the Devs.

The problem with ESC is that it can also bring up the menu.

It will stop the the current player action (note this will abort ANY action you have in progress….harvesting a resource node, opening a chest, etc.). A 2nd press WILL bring up the menu.

Seriously, if you every have time to click on a skill during combat ,you are doing something wrong. While it’s not a huge deal in PvE, it’s a bad habit to get into.

Viable Ranged Classes?

Rangers aren’t terrible in general game PvE, but can be lacking in any type of organized team situation due to the pet mechanic they are bound to. Currently, pets have NO chance to survive encounters with hard hitting Bosses, so the Ranger either has to ignore the pet as a damage source or just accept that their damage output will be reduced when fighting a Boss.

Otherwise, Rangers are a VERY viable ranged combatants.

Engineers are also very good at ranged combat (and have some nasty surprises when forced in to melee range).

Spell caster classes can all hold there own at range but I’m not sure that I have ever heard of AoE being spoke of badly….

While Thieves and Warriors aren’t known for their ranged capabilities, that’s mostly due to the fact that they are much more dangerous in melee….but they can both be built to pack a ranged punch.

The 180 turn may stop attacking your current target, but it does NOT take you out of combat mode….(at least it didn’t when I fist started trying to use that function).

I was unaware there was ANY user input that could actually take you out of combat. A key like that would be VERY valuable in both jumping Puzzles and trying to run thru hostile infested territory.

About 7-6 hours away.

I can log into GW2 in a few minutes (when I go for lunch), set you up in friend list and send a test mail and we can set up a time to do GW1 exchange.

Since you are in EU, this may have to wait until Saturday for both our convenience.

Now that I think about it, do you have any armor scraps for heroes? I never did any of those missions, so I only have 1 Hero (The Golem that can go in immediately) in HoM.

3 more heroes would get me the 2 points I need to hit 25 (the next title level).

I have no idea how hard it is to do those missions and get the scraps needed to dress up the Heroes, but that seems as the easiest method to get me to the last HoM points I would care about.

I use ESC as well.

You can also choose a key that "holsters’ your weapons, I set mine to Right CTRL to put my weps away when i need to stop auto-attacking. Also good for jump puzzles when you get in battle mode and need to jump, put your wep away with whatever key you set.

If you mean you farm a specific dungeon (CoF by any chance?), then you have a valid point. Otherwise, you have to travel to the other dungeons, so you either spend that much silver to travel, or you pass though several towns on the way and your statement doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Followed the Frostgorge Sound “Champ Train” last night for about half an hour. Didn’t get anything special and found it rather boring. Soon went back to clearing the zone and material gathering.

No doubt you can make some serious coin if you followed for hours on end, but I’m not that hard up for gold (at the moment…that may change).

You’re throwing that word “elitist” around, yet I don’t think you know what it means.

That you are being condescending and dismissive to anyone that dares to imply that any skill is needed to play PvE?

How is wanting to play in a high-speed manner in PvE “manufacturing” it? Again, if you are stating that it’s not needed…that’s true…but how is it harming you if they want to play that way? The fact that you think it’s an invalid PvE style of play because you don’t see it as necessary is EXACTLY why I made my “elitist” comment.

If the OP likes to kill mobs faster, why should that ruffle your feathers?

I may be mistaken, but I thought it was MANDATORY now (there is no way to enable / disable it….it’s just ON period).

The mobile authentication is optional.

Nice to know, but I was always led to believe that cooking was far more expensive. Appears not.

Cooking does have it’s quirks tho. Some items (not necessarily the ones used in those guides) are not obtainable via the TP and must be purchased from NPCs out in the world via Karma. I never followed guides doing my crafting (but I have looked at them to get a rough idea of the direction needed). There are LOTs of ways to craft cooking up and I usually try to go with items that I may use in the field or items I can make a lot of with my current materials (to use for Daily Achievements when they pop up).

Doesn’t the generic term “Korean MMO” basically mean that you can only progress to a certain point without being “FORCED” to pay RL money on upgrades and boosters to continue moving forward in the game? I know this is being overly simplistic and broad in the term, but that is what I think of when I hear it (but I could be wrong). I have no idea how that is at all similar to GW2.

Also, the claims of “rampant inflation” are just a myth (so far). While there may be specific items that have increased in price, I have noted a gradual decrease in prices of the items I’ve been buying (crafting materials, Greens for the Rustic Flusher, etc.). Per the evidence listed above, my experience is supported by some facts and there is no “rampant inflation”.

As of now, there is no evidence that the minority that is accumulating some increased wealth via this content is in anyway a detriment to the economy (so far). I would have thought that it could have sent the Precursor market into a control battle, but it would seem that the announcement that Precursors will soon be craft-able has put that market into a tailspin (for some items….not so much other), but that appears to be totally unrelated to this TOXIC content.

This is just incorrect. They presented a specific part of THIS content (Queen’s Gauntlet) to being highly challenging (in an often very cheap and specific way). As listed here, ALL the content is beatable by a variety of classes, builds and gear but does require a highly mobile play style. Certainly pets are useless here, but how many tickets did you use before figuring that out? Rangers can easily be built to minimize the effects of “pet-down” situations. Also, these situations are quit common in other areas of GW2 content, so it should not be a surprise.

The broken pet mechanic in terms of fighting Bosses (or any hard hitting content), is what you want to bring to ANet’s attention (they are quite aware of it, I’m sure).
