how can i put to show FPS and video memory ?

FPS is shown in the lower right of the OPTIONS menu window.

I doubt there is a player accessable method to get in-game video memory data, but I’m sure there are plenty of 3rd party programs to gather this info (not sure you cold actually view it while in GW2 full-screen mode, however).

The reason this thread even exists is because ArenaNet chose to design the content in a way that allows reward seekers and content seekers to work independently.

Isn’t it possible this is NOT a bad thing? Again, CHOICE is available to everyone that wants to take the time to even show up every hour on the hour.

NONE of the achievements actually require the zone to be won. You DO need to be near Scarlet at then very end to get one of them.

Defeating Scarlet is NOT the same as the Event being Successful.

The Event being Successful rewards you with 2 guaranteed rares (limit of 1 set per account per map per day). If you got scraps with success, it was because you already got the 2 rares on that map, that day. I don’t discount the fact that that reward SUCKS, but you got the 2 rares you were suppose to at some earlier time. Are you even SURE the map invasion was a success?

What are you suggesting? That players put someone else’s needs ahead of their own? How can you even expect something like that? I just don’t understand this style of thinking…

We’re all rational beings. It’s insane to demand that people act otherwise.

What I’m suggesting is that if a player is going to be a full tilt, selfish prick, they should just admit to it and quit trying to blame the game (or designers) for “enabling” them to be selfish. I don’t understand the current acceptance that EVERYTHING has to be some one’s fault (and those that think that way are absolutely sure it can never be their own).

I’m not saying that ANet could not make changes to alter the current behavior of selfish players, but putting the blame for selfish behavior 100% on ANet’s shoulders is what I don’t understand. The content presents a choice. It is NOT black and white. I often join in and help close portals and then later waypoint across the map to hit a Pirate event. From my observations there are a lot of other players that do the same.

I really, REALLY dislike this kind of zerging content. I usually just wait till there’s like 5 to 15 minutes left on the invasion, go to a zone and try to get in a kitten overflow that has the event running, do a event and AFK till it’s over. Boring as all hell.

If you actively look for invasion sites that have few players around (avoid the commander tags….), you can actually get some fairly decently enjoyable fights (for at least a minute or five). Going AFK for end rewards is just something you shouldn’t do (or at least admit to).

Just to point out, this can be a difficult SP to get solo. The boss and her minions toss Confusion around quite liberally (so it’s quite easy to kill yourself quickly). Due to the down scaling higher level characters get when they enter lower level zones, I have never noticed empty wasteland starter zones….they always have some players in them. They may even get more crowded as it appears that the newer crafting materials they are about to release will require some number of lower level materials to create. Those low tier materials are only available in lower level zones.

Asuran Elementalist -- Bad choice?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

There isn’t a bad combo from a PvE combat point of view.

Asura actually have a bit of a PvP advantage in that they are smaller and can visually be harder to see for other players. They have some pretty good Racial skills as well.

As a low level ele, it is especially important to keep your armor updated and to possibly concentrate more on improving vitality and toughness for survival (even to the point of where you put your early trait points). Later in the game you can alter that strategy but sub LVL 30 you really need to focus on staying alive. This includes the following:

1) Dodge when needed. Evasion can save you, don’t waste it. Later, there are traits that will actually let your Dodges be used offensively as well as Evade damage.
2) Always think about an escape route. You are squishy and may need to “retreat in a controlled manner”.
3) Defensive skills should not be ignored.
4) FORCE yourself to change attunements (elements) often during battle. This is crucial to improving your damage potential later in the game so if you don’t get used to it now, you should seriously consider another class. You can play an Ele as a “fire mage” or whatever (only using one or two elements), but you will be playing handicapped.

Again, later in the game, an Ele’s damage potential increase and you can alter you play-style based on this rule: Dead opponents present reduced risk to me.

I sure hope ANet is proud of themselves for creating an event that puts players at cross purposes with each other in a large group context. It doesn’t matter where you stand on this topic … ANet is at fault here, not other players.

That attitude is 100% cop-out …. take responsibility for you own actions and expect the same from others (tho you will be hugely disappointed with them most of the time). Anet can certainly modify the content to try and change player behavior, but full out BLAMING them for player actions is absurd and laughable.

You can moderately farm and still get completion.

Exactly.

Why are Aetherblades easier in higher zones?

in Clockwork Chaos

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

Aetherblade in general are a real pain the kitten to deal with because they can essentially stunlock a large group of players.

Molten Alliance meanwhile are too easy, as they have very low health, do little damage, and it’s even possible to solo their tunneling machines.

The clockwork mobs though seem to fall somewhere in the middle. The bigger guys hurt a lot and really do need to be focus fired, while the small ones can be AoEed and double tapped to make sure they don’t reform.

I’m not sure if this was intentional or not, but that’s about how it feels.

all molten alliance, aetherblades and steam creatures can be soloed with relative ease (i dont recall attempting to solo a twisted portal, but the corpse mechanic could make it difficult)
- molten alliance either doesnt scale at all with players or scales very badly, soloing aetherblades means theres considerably less

then switch to a sword or GS?

You cannot switch during combat, another brilliant idea :/
But I am a ranger, makes no sense that something I am standing right next to cannot be hit by a bow.

So you mean your choice of both Longbow and Short Bow keep you from using a melee weapon? His statement stands as a solution to your problem (take a melee weapon instead of one of your bows).

Will Asc. crafting be time-gated per account?

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

….it concerns me that this game could be heading places that discourage having lots of characters on one account.

Your question is a good one, but it is coming from a twisted point of view. I have 8 characters myself but I realize it SHOULD take me 8x longer to outfit them compared to 1 character. Despite what many think, time gating does not exist to punish anyone (it’s there to maintain some level of “rarity” for at least some limited time frame).

Even if you don’t think it’s an intentional punishment (as some here will post…“ANet HATES ALTS PEOPLE!!”), you viewing it as a discouragement is just a point of view that you should re-examine.

Yet other’s here report a higher rate of success in Overflows and from what I have experience (granted, I’m not running more than 2 invasions a day) on Yak’s Bend, that is true. Without actual statistics from ANet, all this is an educated speculation on both our parts.

Why do people want to win the event?

in Clockwork Chaos

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Winning the event does nothing more than “losing” it. You still get your event reward loots and achievements, yet people seem to be hell-bent on ordering people around in chat to split up and blame commanders for stacking in Aetherblade Events. I don’t understand…

The 2 guaranteed Rares you get for doing so? There are players that want these more than the extra 15-30 boxes you can get for just farming Champs. It’s obviously less gold, but people want what they want.

Several of the Achievement descriptions certainly SOUND as if the Invasion needs to be successfully stopped to count (at least to me). If ANet has stated this is not the case, then the description is a bit misleading.

What “credit” are you talking about….the achievements for Clockwork Chaos?

How many do you have and which ones are you working toward? You do NOT have to get the invasion ones to get the proper number as the DAILY ones tied to CC count towards the Meta Achievement (I’m guessing that’s the one you are going for).

I’m guessing you can’t just stand nearby, but actually have to KILL some of the event enemies to be counted as “participating” in the zone wide event. I have no idea about the exact details and I’m not sure ANet isn’t disclosing them to prevent tons of event leechers (just a guess).

Farmers vs Completers

in Clockwork Chaos

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

Either go all for the event, or all go farm.

Its so frustrating when u failed the event, the farmers walk away with 30 champ bags.

I’m on Yak’s Bend and I’ve NEVER seen everyone try for one or the other. If I am adjacent to a Portal or no other events are easily accessible, I’ll go for the Clockwork enemies. However, if a Pirate Event is nearby, I’m heading there…..or a Molten Alliance event after that. Most players I’ve have observed do the same. Technically, I guess that makes me a farmer, but I certainly don’t actively AVOID closing portals just to reach the other mobs.

The ones that PO me are those players that are standing around obviously leeching the completion reward. Believe it or not I’ve seen a few of those with Commander tags displayed. I get that some of them are AFK for just some RL reason and hopefully will be back to play in a few, but I’ve seen quite a few still standing in the same spot 10 minutes after the invasion is over.

The solution is to make the completion rewards more valuable or desirable to more players (some players will only be out for MAX boxes to earn gold and nothing you do will alter their goals). I might add, some additional details on EXACTLY what constitutes a successful invasion thwart would be a good start….I’ve never seen one.

What am I'm missing about insane overbidding?

in Black Lion Trading Co

I overbid like that when I actually WANT the item to use. I don’t want to wait for the 2000 other items to be sold before I get the few I need and I’m willing to pay a premium to get the item sooner but I refuse to pay the too high “buy now” price.

This only happens on items that have a largish gap between “buy now” and “high bid” and if someone is doing it for quantity, they must have some hopes (or information) that the particular item is going to become high demand or low supply…..dunno.

Also, what about the players with 20 characters that have bought them all the tools for all (or even some) of their characters? Anet CAN’T kitten off customers that actually spend crazy amounts of RL money in the Gem Store by doing what you are asking.

Not incorrect, but a lot of people are loosing out by not at least glancing at what their greens have on them. I give all mine a cursory glance while looking at them on the TP sell screen just to see if something interesting pops up. Any items of GREEN or better quality are ALWAYS Soulbound on USE (equip them and they become soulbound). As mentioned above, if you get them thru means other than drops (vendors, rewards, etc.) they could be soulbound when you get them.

My main beef with Soulbound is that another character can’t even pick up the item (I get if they can’t equip it). This makes vendoring or flushing old used items a PitA (as you can’t just put them in general inventory for another character to deal with them).

I’m not overly thrilled with these since they are soulbound as I run one of every class and I doubt I’ll ever plunk down enough funds for 8 sets of these.

This event has brought out the worst of GW2

If you just wait by a zone exit for a few minutes, you can exit the zone, re-enter and get an overflow that does not have an invastion event running. Pretty simple way to get a clean, zergless, map.

Don't these events feel rather mindless?

Until zerging and downed state are removed ( never going to happen ), open world pve will always be mindless.

Was that backhand slap at 80% of the player base absolutely necessary?

Why are invasions no invasions?

gw1 had a full expansion 1 year after launch, why doesn’t this game have that much new content?

I’m confused as to why so many people immediately expect GW2 to do everything just like GW1 did? When did ANet ever state this game was going to mimic the development cycle and releases of an 8 year old game?

I’m not saying an expansion would not be welcomed or is the wrong thing to do, but EXPECTING GW2 to follow GW1’s release schedule is a problem with your EXPECTATIONS, not anything Anet is doing to intentionally screw you or any player over. So many of these posts are filled with bile and hate for a company that has given many of us nearly a decade of enjoyable gaming.

I certainly am well aware of ANets shortcomings and mistakes, but if you balance the good with the bad, they have definitely been on the “good” side more often than not. I get that a lot of long time fans seem to think that is changing for the worse (I agree on some fronts), but changes have to be made to continue to grow and evolved in this market.

Invasion Strategy : Kill mobs or Leave mobs?

in Clockwork Chaos

For me, it’s much less about, “should I continue to kill”, as “CAN I continue here and not be dead in a few minutes”?

When everyone else takes off for the next event, you are asking to die, if you stick around with 25 enemies realizing you are the only target left within their AI range.

RUN AWAY!!!!!!!

I seriously don’t see the reason to stick around if those remaining monsters are no longer required for the event nor provide much (if any) loot. If Anet wants these cleared out, make the last monster in a mob drop something desirable and I’ll fight for it.

I think a lot of people genuinely don’t understand what they need to do here.

THIS…..

….and the fact that people are basically greedy at their core and the OP is blowing the problem way out of proportion. Nothing wrong with asking Devs to nerf the Champ loot in Invasion zones during those events (I seriously don’t like the idea of removing Champ Loot Boxes as I have enjoyed some small “zerging” across zones for a bit of reward during my normal play). But making this out to be the downfall of Guild Wars civilization is going a bit far.

Request: Anet, how to get Mini Mr. Sparkles?

in Clockwork Chaos

I recently started collecting mini’s and I have a completionist attitude, I would love to have Mr. Sparkles, but I can’t so easily go to Gamescon. I would like it if they put him in the gemstore for 500-800 gems or whatever as well for a limited time.

So you don’t get the mini….accept it and move on. Maybe they will put it on the Gem Store in a few years, but I doubt it. Anet has put out exclusive mini’s since the start of GW1 and the several extremely rare ones have never been available in any other way (that I’m aware of). Now if you want to complain that minis are all account bound, that’s another discussion.

Nobody is intentionally provoking your ADD tendencies, they just want to reward those that went to a convention event with something special.
