I’m pretty sure any type of macro or automation is against the EULA and is considered a ban-able offense. On the other hand, the kind of use you are talking about is going to be pretty hard for anyone to identify as a Macro when reviewing a log (looks like you are just a fast clicker), so you would likely be ok…but…..taking the risk is up you.

Another option to store gold

Brother Grimm.5176

They claim that it’s an impossibility at this point for the programmers to include both the wallet as well as the bank feature to still store gold…. But I think that claim is just a way of them telling us to just accept the change.

While I think that may be the crux of the statement, I think the change involved an either/or technical choice in the design and “impossible” means they aren’t going to trash all the work they did to implement and test the incoming Wallet update and go back and do MUCH more work to put both in place.

In terms of resource availability, I can understand their stance on this. Obviously, if it presents a huge issue in the community, they may re-evaluate the situtation, but unless it is completely game-breaking for a significant portion of the player base, I wouldn’t hold my breath for both.

Wallet Discussion: Depositing gold!

I’ve seen another suggestion beyond using a personal Guild for gold storage….using the TP to hold your money with ridiculous buy orders that will never get filled. Obviously, this storage will cost you money in the buy order fee, but so will setting up a new Guild with a bank for your personal storage (but the Guild option will also come with some additional item storage that you can increase if you want).

Actually, putting up a buy order costs you absolutely nothing. There are only fees for listing an item, not for offering to buy one. You can put up 25 offers to buy Eternity for 1 gold each to store 25 gold and when you want the money back, you simply remove the offer. You’ll be given back all 25 gold, and you can check this yourself with smaller sums of money. Hey, worst case, someone actually sells you an eternity for 1 gold.

As you can see…I don’t buy much on the TP other than small quantities of crafting mats. What if you take down the buy order before it’s filled (which you will do in this case when you want your gold to REALLY buy something) …doesn’t it charge you the listing fee when it returns the gold? If not, then this may be the answer to our “savings account” woes.

One click on buy/sell it locks the button and waits for a communication from the server. if the transaction goes through it comes back green otherwise it comes back red. Either way the player can keep themselves from double clicking.

Don’t blame the new horse just because he’s pulling a wagon with a broken wheel.

My suggestion to fix this is a WARNING dialog like the merchants have. If you are spending more than 1g, a dialog pops up for you to confirm your purchase. I’m sure avid traders would also appreciate some sort of “opt-out” checkbox in the settings to either turn this feature completely off, or only display it the first time in a TP session.

I think the problem you are trying to solve with the click and wait is a double purchase and that is NOT the problem here…..I’m concerned about an accidental FIRST purchase (but stopping lag induced double purchases is not a bad thing, either).

I’m still trying to wrap my brain around the “I might accidently buy something I don’t want!” or the “I might spend money I want to save!” arguments.

Umm….

It can happen easier than you think due to connection lag (or just being in a hurry and clicking un-carefully). The later should in no way be Anet’s concern to fix, but the former raises the questions being asked here. However, both cases will result in a drain in resources for Anet’s help desk (it takes time to answer someone with, “not my problem”).

The actual issue at merchants has been pretty much halted due to a dialog that pops up when you try to buy something that costs more than 1g (I think that’s the amount). This is NOT the case in the buy screen of the TP, however where multi-hundred gold items are easily pulled up and a single accidental click away from purchase. Is this Anet’s fault…..of course not. But I think it might be in their best interest to at least look into putting some sort of purchase warning dialog in place on the TP interface.

Personal guild is an option and I’ve also seen suggestions that putting large sums of gold into TP buy orders that could NEVER be filled would be a good way to “secure” savings funds.

On the technical side of having both, I think the real answer is that doing an either or (wallet or existing system) was a bit of work, but doable (and already done and tested at this point). Putting both in place would be MUCH more work and require lots more testing and resources that just can’t be made available at this time. Certainly it’s possible, but not available for realistic discussion at this point.

I’m going to guess MF on equipment becomes +GOLD drop as that is the closest thing they can replace it with and not create a balance debate.

I think this is unlikely.

They’ve expressed that one of the reasons they’re removing MF from loot is that they don’t want to force players to choose between stats and loot on gear. Replacing MF with GF wouldn’t really solve this problem, especially in dungeons.

Point taken (and you are likely correct). The other interesting side result of all this is what it is doing to MF items on the TP….very weird speculation logic going on there.

Wallet Discussion: Depositing gold!

I don’t know exactly how the wallet will work, but I don’t want to be forced to have all of my eggs in one basket – that can lead to disaster. I also like to play “semi hard core” sometimes, where my lower level up-and-coming characters must fend for themselves rather than be supported by my higher level characters. I would like to be able to keep my individual character’s earnings separate.

From the Dev comments in other thread, you are SOL on “semi-hardcore” issue. Eggs will all be in one basket and there will be no built in option to “ration” the resources out nor “secure” them via the Wallet system. There appear to be a few “workaround” methods to secure funds in alternate “storage”, but according to the information I’ve seen from the Devs responding in other threads, you will no longer be able to carry funds (or Karma) on individual characters.

Easy Solution: Bank.

I’m guessing you are suggesting an entirely new NPC type storage than the current Vault just for money…..that seems a bit redundant when the feature already exists right now.

However, comments in other forum threads (by Dev) indicate that the Wallet update and maintaining the current gold storage in our storage vault is technically out of the question.

Looking at the existing named equipment combos it seems the easiest thing to do is simply convert those with MF to another named combo item (that would possibly include Toughness). Either that or change them to Agony Resistance (the only other profession common attribute that is unclassified).

TP purchase WARNING dialog

in Suggestions

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

In light of the new change to pool all account gold in the Wallet (which I think is an overall GREAT idea), I am concerned as accidental purchase do happen (whether they are user click issues or caused by interface glitch / connection lag). In the past, these mistakes would be limited the amount of gold you had on the current character (potentially painful, but not something you couldn’t recover from). However, after the upcoming addition of the Currency Wallet update, you could potentially wipe out your entire game savings via this kind of mistake. I know for me, that would certainly make me consider no longer playing and at the very least, I would waste a lot of mine an Anet’s resources trying to get the mistake rolled back (despite any standing policy Anet claims….I’d have to try).

I do believe that most merchants now present a warning dialog when the purchase is over a certain amount (1 gold?), so I don’t really think these are huge concern as those warning dialog should be sufficient to halt mistaken purchases in all but the most extreme cases of player carelessness or some horrific lag storm. Also, very few Merchants sell VERY expensive items in any case.

HOWEVER, the TP has no such warning dialog and certainly has the potential for financial ruin level mistakes. In the past, simply not having enough gold on your character protected you from a potential mistake, but with the Wallet change, that will NOT be the case. ALL your money will be sitting at your disposal to accidentally purchase those precursors you were browsing….

I suggest that a similar dialog to the one for merchant purchases be put in place for the TP with maybe a user settable WARNING level so traders that deal in multi-gold purchase on a regular basis can avoid being annoyed to death by the dialog (or allow the TP warning to be enabled/disabled in settings).

I get that Anet should not be responsible for protecting people from their own accident prone stupidity, but believe me ANet, putting something like this in place is going to save you a WHOLE lot of headaches, Customer Service costs and potential customer loss in the long run. Per the forum, this is just a suggestion (and I DO love and appreciate the changes being provided with this Wallet update).

I also realize that a possible solution is a personal Guild and buying the influence to obtain the bank for a “Savings Account”. I have every intention of going this route assuming the current update plans (already created my Guild today), but I forsee lots of players that do not keep up with these kinds of changes that will not see the potential problem until it’s too late.

You did not read my post properly. It is not an option. It is not possible without touching core systems. Which will have other consequences. An MMO is a very complex thing.

I get what you are saying and except we can’t have both. Any chance for some sort of confirmation dialog in the TP when we are going to spend more than say 5G? How about a user settable WARNING level? It’s one thing to accidentally buy something you didn’t mean to with the limited funds on your present existing character, but quite another to potentially wipe out your game life savings on an accidental click.

Just a suggestion from someone wanting to avoid the potential disasters I foresee from this update (that I think is a AWESOME idea, BTW….I just see the potential dangers and would like to see it idiot-proofed as much as possible.

I think the Devs need to consider how much server space is going to be burned with people starting “personal” Guilds due to this change (not that I think it is a bad change….I love the idea). I have never considered starting a Guild until this point and I’m guessing MANY others are going to do so to provide some level of personal financial restriction and security.

If 80% of the player base starts a new Guild when this goes live, how will this effect the game (or the resources behind the scenes)?

At DEV

Considering current PvE situation where many professions are less likely to be accepted in party.

Did you consider the impact of that stuff?

I mean its not that a mesmer c an have a consumable to have 100Blades, banners and heavy armor :/

We risk to go towards situation of 5 warrior parties everywhere if its cheap.

That’s a problem with PvE balancing across all classes, not portals.

If the only thing stopping Warriors being the exclusive class for major PvE content is that they don’t have a single skill form a single other class, then the problem is not that skill – it’s the lack of balance across all classes in PvE.

No, the only think stopping that is that not EVERYONE wants to play a warrior all the time. It’s freakin’ PvE….why does it matter if someone “wants” you in their party? Any party that wants a Mesmer in PvE just for the portal skill is not a party I care to join. (sans actually doing a punishing JP). Also, why do I have to join a party to put up a portal or use one?

There is NO reason to balance classes for general PvE. Now if we are talking Dungeons….well there is a reason 60% of the player base has never completed one.

Dungeon gold rewards, account or character?

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

I would still assume character bound, following the dungeon tokens reasoning.
I don’t understand why it’s being said A-net hates alts. In fact the whole token wallet seems to be a push towards alts.

The daily bonus rewards for taking down world bosses (Jormag, Shatterer, etc) are gated once per day. Gearing alts in Ascended gear takes much, much longer as it’s purely time-gated and will take at least one month per additional chara.

The token wallet thing is the first step towards being nice to altaholics, but other recent history has not been so kind to us.

First, I am also an altaholic (“Hi, Bro!”). Time gating is not to punish altaholics, but to extend the game life in general. The idea that ANet has meetings on how to screw over certain parts of the player base intentionally is just a bit silly.

This will allow you to view the BSOD error properly (and provide the STOP CODE mentioned above).

Tom Gore is 100% correct in that it MUST be a driver or hardware issue. I’m not saying that GW2 is triggering the failure (either overheating something, using more memory / resources than other programs, etc.), but it is the trigger for the failure, not the cause.

I wouldnt hold your breath. GW2 has been out for long enough and still no significant performance increases have been made.
The game engine itself is at fault and changing it in any way is difficult. Their bigest mistake was to use the old Gw1 engine as a starting point. They should have gone with a completly different engine. But they didnt, they cut corners, and this is the result.

Lots of speculation and guessing in there for someone that doesn’t work at ANet. Not saying it’s all BS, but you presenting it as a statement of fact is annoying when you don’t really know the details. I’m specifically looking at the “cut corners” statement made when you have no idea what the possible reasons were for using the GW1 engine as a base rather than something else. I highly doubt the reasoning was 100% a resource availability or “this will be easier” decision.

Cheapest Crafting Skills?

in Crafting

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

the number of levels you are looking to increase are going to require most (if not ALL) of the crafting skills for each character, so which ones are cheaper is not nearly as important as which ones are the most expensive (so you can avoid doing those).

A huge answer to your question lies in how much T1 – T6 crafting materials you have before starting. You will still need to buy lots of materials, but your current stockpiles are a “discount” in the expected costs for each. Also, if you have Laurels to spare, you can further offset the costs by getting crafting starter kits and / or crafting material bundles that are available.

Also, most crafting guides will provide you with a rough estimate of cost, but they could be off by good bit depending on how much material costs have changed since the guides were written (and that is usually quite a long time as most of the guides out there were done within a few weeks of original GW2 game release).

I have to say that in light of the alterable stats announcement, there now IS a real reason to own a Legendary Weapon. Whether or not it is a legit reason and worth the cost and effort depends on the individual.

I still have 7 characters around LVL 60 so, I’m not looking for an “impossible dream” at the moment, but the adjustable stat announcement changed my view from “no way!” to “I’ll see when I get there”.

Just be glad the poultry isn’t rare.

That’s why they don’t serve up “pork” (and I’m sure there are religious considerations as well).

Why can't you make money through crafting?

I think those complaining about not being able to make money crafting expect EVERY item to sell more at the trader than the materials cost to make it.

That would basically be an unlimited gold supply for every player in the game and flood the economy with gold.

You CAN make money at crafting, you just need to do some research first and put in intelligent buy orders for crafting materials that you need. No, it’s not “easy” (nor “fast” in most cases) and shouldn’t be.

I was clicking away last night and thought, “if that picture of 21,000 Evon Badges was real, that guy would still be clicking right now”.

This would be a welcome change (but I’m guessing this is one method to limit the number of those that want to BUY votes…they are going to have to go thru this self-torture to do so).

Guys the argument “you dont need it therefor you cant complain” is tired and childish.

I’d say someone complaining that they didn’t get the outcome they wanted in a casino outing “childish”, but whatever.

I’m not arguing that he can’t complain, I’m arguing that his complaint is unjustified and just proves how entitled and self-centered most players seem to be. BTW, he got TWO of what most people are gambling BLCs for right now….I fail to see how he got “Ripped Off” to begin with.

From the dialog and lore on the Zephyrite background, they are indicated to be closer to Elona (Crystal Desert and Glint), but obviously also have some strong connection to Cantha as well.

MMO =/= real life.

If you’re a completionist, then your statement is untrue.

Completionist == Obsessive (and not ANet’s problem)

If this seriously causes you RL issues, you should seek some professional help.

Umm… what? With those you can get 2 skins which will net you somewhere around 150 gold. That’s more than you would have got by converting those gems directly into gold, which is a lot better than what you usually get from the chests.

For $50 someone should be able to get a full set of weapon skins. You can buy the game for $50.

Yes they can, but he took his $50 to a CASINO and got the buffet and a few trinkets to show for it. The simple truth here is that anyone willing to gamble on BLC isn’t actually trying to be smart with their money, so they shouldn’t be surprised or livid when they come up short. Buying BLC to get more keys is….well, just not that smart (especially since ANet TOLD everyone the days of “retries” with the chests was pretty much over).

If everyone was able to get a full set of skins for $50, they wouldn’t be very exclusive. That is exactly why skins like this are only available for a limited time and require effort to obtain. I’m not saying the method for obtaining these skins isn’t questionable, but ANet is being very up front about the odds and that they are going to cost you (not crazy that it’s not a set price, but that’s the price for some exclusiveness).
