Ranting about the pet mechanic again?

This type of content is NEVER going away….if you play a Ranger, grit your teeth and plan for DOA pets. Every zone in the open world has numerous encounters that render pets useless….

I’m not saying to quit asking for some sort of change to the pet mechanic, but pointing at THIS content angrily about the broken pet mechanic is just silly.

I think I have a bunch of duplicates in storage and would gladly give them to you (Have no need of GW1 gold any longer). PM me. Usually on 6-7 AM or 6-7 PM CDT weekdays (sometimes 8-11PM) and just about any time (US central time) on most weekends. I don’t think it matters, but I’m on Yak’s Bend server.

I need to check exactly what I have available as I haven’t logged in to GW1 in quite a while.

You can PM someone in GW2 using their account name (the one at the left of the post here), so you don’t really need an IGN (too many characters and I have no idea which one I will be logged in as).

Other professions with high-speed play style?

in Players Helping Players

You’re not going to get a high-speed playstyle in PvE.

One of the most PvP elitist statements I have ever read….if you mean you don’t NEED a high-speed playstyle in PvE, then that’s not entirely wrong, but you can certainly PLAY one. I’m not even sure how you can imply that it’s impossible to do in PvE, but doable in PvP….only handful of skills and traits are different between them.

@ OP – Hornet Sting is a great skill if timed properly….and you use the follow up to the skill….. You not seeing that brings your entire game-play ability into question.

Which proffesion is worth doubling the most?

in Players Helping Players

Brother Grimm.5176

Not to burst your bubble, but I doubt GW2 will ever introduce new races or even new classes. ANet Devs have stated many times that one of GW1s major mistakes was introducing new classes in the expansions (but they planned on that up front, since the original game only had 5 classes). GW2 had 8 classes at release and balancing any new skills introduced by new weapon types (something they HAVE implied may happen), will be enough of a challenge.

I guess a new race would only introduce a few new skills, but I have certainly never seen any public mention of plans by the Devs for a new race to be released….they are reluctant to even discuss a possible expansion at this point.

Speed lvling, where?

Crafting is slow, I was maxing cooking on my ele and it took me 2-3 hours and I got 19 lvl.
Crown Pavilion is hard, how I’ll damage something with 1 lvl?

If you buy all the materials listed in an up to date guild up front, crafting is VERY fast.

Cooking is probably the most expensive and worse craft to use for leveling (so your experience was tainted from the start). If you craft via a guide however (and buy materials up front), cooking is no slower than the others.

With sufficient gold, a LVL 80 charcter can be made in less than 4 hours thru pure crafting (I think you have to get max 4 crafts and get less than halfway through a 5th to reach 80).

Enjoy your ride to level 80, dude. Don’t rush (if it’s your first character)

QFT

Not sure why people want to do this as the journey to LVL 80 (at least to me) is much more interesting than LVL 80 itself.

I’ve been told the fastest way to do this outside of crafting is to obtain a semi-permanent speed boost and just travel all zones concentrating on the Hearts. Obviously, you should pick up easy Vistas & Skill Points. Clearing zones will get you some rewards, but you can come back for those and the XP is not nearly as good as the Hearts.

Brother Grimm.5176

I see no reason to do this unless you just want to have a different racial or faction experience with the story. As far as builds go, it’s less than 4s to refund all your trait points at LVL 80, so you can change any character build at numerous places across the game. Whether you have a completely different character or not, you still have to plunk down gold to obtain multiple sets of equipment for different builds (tho, a new character does provide the additional storage to support this).

The only possible actual “advantage” that I am aware of is being an Asura in PvP simply because the model is visibly smaller (I’ve been told that nearly every sPvP and tPvP player is now Asura race….). Note that we are “told” that all the hit boxes are the same, so there is no actual advantage to the small size, just that it’s a bit harder to see and you can actually hide behind things easier. It is enough of an advantage, that there is serious talk about generalizing PvP character sizes (or even possibly models).

Ranger or Thief

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

In PvE there is no best, but the Ranger would have better survivability in a non-boss encounter setting. A Thief can likely put out more DPS than a Ranger (but not always).

Any situation that is going to bring quick, high damage potential (Vets, Champs, Environmental damage, etc.) is going to present a problem for any Ranger that has any dependence on their pet (as the pet has such low survivability in those situations). Their DPS will be reduced (by how much depends on their build) and they will loose their “agro-magnet”, thus putting them into a “pet-down mode” that completely changes most Ranger’s play style. For these reasons, Rangers are regularly shunned by Dungeon and Fractal groups that are going for high-efficiency and speed.

Don’t get me wrong, I love playing my Ranger, but you have to accept and plan for the limitations that are shackled to them by the pet mechanic.

That could solve the problem: make a level 80 character get level 80 loot regardless of where that character is in the game (rather than getting say lv12 drops most of the time, with maybe a 1/10 chance for level-appropriate loot). If the concern is a drying up in the supply of items for levelling on TP, then make it optional: when you spawn in a zone you get a one-time choice of ‘level loot’ or ‘zone loot’ which is active until you leave the zone or relog (so basically the same way Hard Mode worked in GW1).

Wait…I get plenty of level appropriate loot in lower level areas (close to 50% I would estimate). Now they are NOT ALL my exact level but are nearly always within 2 or 3 levels. If I am missing something in what you are suggesting, please enlighten me.

Brother Grimm.5176

I guess it is rather unclear how much working together is considered exploit. Is helping other getting an achievement an exploit? We work together a lot of the time, because some of us are very casual and we play not for power/eq but for the more social aspect. One of the biggest draw we have to GW2 is the social aspect and people working together. I apologize for exploiting jumping puzzle achievements with portal and crafting achievements with materials from friends.

Even if it is not kosher, isn’t it a bit excessive to ban an account for 10 (or whatever) achievement points and a title?

Seriously, you consider passing around money to get an achievement “helping” each other in the normal course of the game? It’s outright fraud to exploit the achievement system in the game. Granted, it’s nothing that adversely effects other players and may not even be against the ToC in the game (it could be considered to be gaining an advantage).

BTW, I was not implying what you were doing was a bannable offense or that the ban was due to the act of gaining the achievement outside normal means, just that it would never have happened if your Guild wasn’t trying to “work the system” to gain an advantage that was not earned (however small it is), so it was kind of ironic and possibly poetic (yet over the top) justice.

ANet intentionally does not publish the policy on this kind of thing and bans first because if they did not do it that way, stopping actual gold purchases would be nearly impossible (as gold sellers would be able to perform their transactions to get around the “known” policies).

I’m sorry for those that get banned accidentally, but in this case it was NOT without some reason (be it right or wrong). If the account does not get re-instated, your outrage is more than justified, otherwise you seem to be overreacting due to your frustration.

About Condition Damage

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

The duration of Burning is (in most cases) is MUCH shorter than other conditions. Most skills provide 1 – 3 sec with a few going as high kitten – 6 sec.

If you are trying to kill something quickly (like in PvP), applying strong pressure immediately (like you can with a single burn) is a better option than having to apply 7 stacks to get the same DoT. Also, how much work you have to perform (and how long it took) to apply X DoT is important when it can all be brought back to zero in a single Condition Removal. That is why the FEAR component of a TERROR traited Necro is considered by many to be OP as it can’t be self removed.

Not a PvPer so I could have translated what I have heard about the issue incorrectly, but that’s my take on those conditions.

never played a MMORPG,is ranger a good class?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

Ranger is fun to play in PvE world zones, but lacks the versatility and overall power to be desireable in any of the other game modes. This results in them being passed over as a “desired” member of higher end team based game modes (dungeons, fractals, etc.).

Frankly, other classed can do whatever the ranger can do but better and faster and this lends to the common belief that the class is a team liability when not played well (when the real truth is that ANY class that is not played well is a liability to the team). Now that is not to imply that a well played Ranger cannot be useful and even a marvel to behold in action, but the pet mechanic they are “burdened” with does not hold up in encounters with more powerful foes and they are simply rendered less than 100% effective in those situations.

Asura Engie Vs Guardian (New Alt)

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

I play both but my Guardian is still at mid 40s, so I certainly haven’t felt his full potential yet. I find the Engineer more satisfying and fun to play, but I’m a loner type player at heart anyway. Guardian is certainly more geared to “social” type playing as it can provide so many benefits to nearby players.

One thing to note, if you are looking at the Engineer with eyes on turret based play, be aware that nearly all the Turret skills are in some manner or another bugged (and have been for quite a while). I was never big on Turrets (sans Healing Turret), so it has never effected my play-style (I’m a Bomb Kit / Elixir Gun / Flamethrower guy)…but be aware that Turrets are NOT a very viable option for Engineer at the moment (you can use them, but they are kitten).

Salvaging kits for blues/greens

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

For certain blues and greens, you’ll probably turn a more consistent profit by selling them to NPCs. Primary example being anything that gives silk scraps or thick leather sections, which are nearly worthless.

Unless you are crafting T5 items (or are ever planning to craft them). Free mats are always less expensive than even cheap TP mats. I guess if you have plenty of the T5 common materials, selling to NPCs is an option. If you are only concerned with LVL 80 gear, then your suggestion is more applicable.

I always use Basic kit for everything unless it has some sort of desirable or sell-able upgrade. I use Mystic kits for those…..or Black Lion kits if the upgrade is something really good.

Add ability to sell or trade Gauntlet Tickets

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

At least let us sell these to Merchants when you quit giving out 5 freebies to new characters, ANet.

As I see it, the main issue here is that it is possible to create / delete endless characters and abuse the 5 free tickets they are each given. This issue has come up OVER and OVER in terms of many items, karma farming, mission reward farming, etc……so why hasn’t some system been put in place to time gate character creation?

Seriously, why would ANYONE need to create more than one character in 24 hours if they are actually planning to play the character for any length of time? If Anet put something like this in place, it would head off a lot of headaches in terms of event items and other exploits that involved abusing the character creation process.

I do understand that many players often create a character several times in a row to get the look “just right” (I’ve done that myself on several occasions), but someone smarter than me could try and figure out how to allow that instead of just generating and deleting characters to exploit something in the game. Possibly some number (say 5) of soulbound makeover kit for each created character?

There has to be a solution to stopping this character creation exploit as it seems to be the cause of a LOT of issues in a myriad of other areas in the game.

BTW, I’d put this in the Suggestion Forum, but from the few I have posted there, nobody ever looks at those posts (maybe the Devs do, but other forum goers don’t), so very few ideas are actually exchanged in most of the posts there. The forum is a nice idea, but a very poor venue to have good ideas discussed and made better.

I think the point is that other Kale recipes use only 1 leaf and that much Garlic IS crazy (like ward off every Vampire and Female on the planet, crazy). At the very least the recipe should generate 3-5 bowls of this stuff….not just 1.

I still wonder why Crab Meat is a junk item and not a cooking ingredient.

I’ve killed a good many Thunder Shrimp and never had a chance to toss them on the barby, either….hmmmm….Grilled Thunder Shrimp Skewer

6 Thunder Shrimp
2 Piles Salt & Pepper
2 Lemons
1 Chilli Pepper

1st PvE, crafting slower than leveling.

I would suggest that you level your first character up the normal way. While crafting can get you levels fast, the very first thing you need is an understanding of how the game works. Having a level 80 and not knowing how to proficiently use a level 80 character will only cause you, and everyone you party with, heartache.

Agreed.

But without outside help of some sort (Guild / Friends / “obtaining” gold), I don’t see how anyone could craft to 80 on first character.

champion loot and t6 mats fix - confused

Their logic is flawed imho.

Nerf the original sources for T6 materials, only to introduce new sources for T6 as a ‘fix’ to the problem?

That logic makes no sense to me.

What were the opponents you were fighting to obtain the original T6 mats? How did they compare to the ones they have “added” in terms of your ability to “farm” them in large quantity over a short period of time?

The reasoning is quite logical in terms of how many T6 mats could you secure in an hour then and now….. Not liking something and disagreeing with the reason or result is not the same as illogical.

Don’t get upset that he did not understand your post….I get that English might not be your first language, but your original post is VERY difficult to follow and understand what you were trying to say. I’m still kind of guessing, but I think it’s this:

Change scroll from a 1-20 level item to a +20 level (to 80 then add skill points for remaining levels). Not a bad suggestion, but do we KNOW for sure what this scroll actually does?

To be honest, I feel the item cheats players out of a part of what I find to be the most rewarding part of the game….the journey to LVL 80. Obviously, not all players feel this way and just want an insta-80 character ASAP.

Also, what if they make these TP sellable? They are limited quantity and I know I don’t want mine, but would gladly make some gold on them.

So all of you have reported this via the in-game bug reporting feature? I’m guessing if you got every player on your team to report it every time the map came up, something might get done (just to stop the reports).

I doubt coming in here and reporting it in a thread (rather rudely) is going to get more than a passing mention to the people responsible for looking into and fixing it.

I truly wonder what stats ANet has on everything that has been flushed.

Some of those numbers must be staggering.
