Warriors, Guards and Thieves have NEVER been meta. Ever. Never ever. Less than 0 times. It’s about time Anet realizes that some classes have been on top for far too long. Speaks volumes.
What? AH Guardian and thief were meta for years. Shoutbow cele warrior was also meta for atleast 6-7 months.
We have covered this and I have since digressed, although it was not my initial point at what I was getting at. Welcome to the conversation.
I’m surprised you’ve digressed. You seemed so confident in your post with all the capitalized “NEVER EVER” stuff. Is it weird having people instantly call you out on that?
I don’t see any issue with the teams. They were a 4-man far below your team division-wise. There’s not enough PvPers to make exactly fair teams every game. As far the diamonds farming achievements, nothing ANet can do about that.
Good on you for posting a vid and asking for advice. That’s more than 95% of people here are willing to do.
It makes me angry how these people doesnt want to help you but just say that you “belong to sapphire div”. So your left hand doesnt work well? How about getting one of those MMO mouses? That holds like 10+ buttons. Then picking a character that doesnt need so much movement on points (ranged). So you could spam skills and utilities with one hand and practice to be good with it. Im sorry to say you this, but I doubt you can be pro (I hope Im wrong) but you can be better than average with practice and with right gear (mouse and keyboard). I hope you still enjoy playing GW2 even that PvP is super toxic.
I also have a problem with my (right) hand preventing me from optimizing things in some ways and still play with a regular mouse but it is painfully obvious the problem isn’t he mouse nor the keybinds in the matches we loose.
Despite pointing and clicking all my skills with my mouse I win most of my 1v1. I just needed to take different habits. Bad rotation is by far what kill the most, yet ppl will stick on keybinds and the like if you show them vids of you playing insisting you are responsible despite the fact it had no significant bearing on the outcome. It’s just sad.
I can promise that using your mouse to click skills is hindering your gameplay. It’s just a simple fact. You can’t go from clicking one skill to the other as fast as someone who has them keybound. I haven’t seen you play so idk what other mistakes you make to keep you in a lower division than you feel you deserve, but I can guarantee clicking your skills is one of them. Making the switch to keybinds will take a while to get used to, but it will help significantly. You should try it.
You pretty much prove my point here.
I don’t understand. Regardless of what the OP’s point is, I’m trying to help you get better so you can improve at the game and climb divisions faster. It doesn’t matter if you win most of your 1v1s (which makes me seriously question the skill level of your opponents), using keybinds will DRASTICALLY improve your gameplay. Just a fact.
That is nice but irrelevant is my point since it is not what is responsible for the defeat most of the time.
On one hand we have a population that seeks to have it’s misfortune acknowledge while on the other hand we have another population that seem to avoid giving that acknowledgment because it indirectly cheapen their own achievement which I think lead to fingers being pointed more than helping hands.
I guess that’s fair enough. I don’t think the mmr hell threads are taking away from me being in legendary div. In fact, I used to think it didn’t exist but I’ve seen enough threads and videos to believe it does for some people. What I also believe is that it’s possible to climb out of it with enough improvement and perseverance.

True, should have specified I guess. Last season abjured dominated everyone, which osmt the case this season. My bad I guess, by NA teams I mean the abjured.
Only see two reason why that happened :
Other team improved while the abjured didn’t
Or since the abjured are the best NA, the rest focused on their tacts/strategy and we’re able 5o counter them.Anywyas, I digress since competition is always welcome. I ll give the league a shot again to get a better assement. .
First off at op I’m pretty sure the 200k comes from the marketing budget not the development budget.
Also one of the biggest reasons abjured are so good is they are the most stable NA team besides the OEGGS drama they have had the se roster for quite some time. The people who say EU teams are better might have a point but it’s because those teams have more stability than NA teams that change players al the time. The individual skill differences between NA and EU are not as kittenome would like you to believe.
I’ll a dress one of the issue on your post because I am at the library
Dude the individual skill difference between NA and EU is insane for pro players. Why?? Only abjured won a game during the finals if thats moot?? Then what are you basing your assumption on?
Don’t talk about things that you know nothing about. Thanks.
How would we know if you got worse? The only way we could tell is if you posted some vids of your games in s1, and then some vids of s2. Maybe you got worse. Maybe not.
Edit: And ignore the post below me… Jesus Christ…

I’ve been playing unranked, after giving up on leagues (t5 saph). And I can say half the S2 Legendary players I encounter are terrible. I’m just sitting here thinking how HOW are you so bad? But this thread reminds me they had a free ride.
No they didn’t.
So basically, you’re not good enough to proceed in leagues. Not everyone can be legendary =/
Sigh, so let me break it down for those who don’t understand why skill isn’t part of the equation.
Assume for a second I’m absolutely horrible, and have gone as far as I can in leagues. Because of how MMR should work, I should be at a near exact 50-50 win loss ratio if I had hit my skill cap. The problem is that I’m not at a 50-50 which would be what happens when you hit your skill cap. I’m at a much worse ratio. Which is why people say MMR hell exists in this season’s matchmaking. Because my loss ratio shouldn’t be happening, ever. The worst that should happen is 50-50.
You’re right. At your skill cap you should be winning 50% of your matches. Since you keep losing, maybe your skill level is at emerald or amber. Unfortunately, you can’t go down a division.
(edited by Browrain.7346)
Chaith, everybody who ever played pvp for any substantial amount of time would have moments where they know their own actions were a big reason for a win. I’m sure a person of your calibre would have even more of these moments than the average joe. You might even get to the stage of believing that you carried the entire team through most of your games. It’s not true though. You won’t win any game if your teammates don’t play their part too.
Gaining divisions isn’t about winning a 1v3 and single handedly winning the game. There’s actually a reason why people do better at this game than others, no, it’s not getting teammates who play their part.
One very efficient and aware player will almost always make the difference in guaranteeing that every highly winnable/close game is in the bag. And that’s definitely worth trying to achieve instead of just dismissing it..
I’m sorry but that simply doesn’t make any sense whatsoever unless you live in a world where everyone but you is garbage.
How can, all things being equal, 80% of what participate in a match not matter significantly more than anything your 20% does?
I get that you are great and all but unless your gyro or Helseth clones can cap by themselves because you are just plain THAT awesome logic still apply.
Ideally we would would all contribute 20% to a win. Realistically, a better player will contribute more to a win (carry teamfights, win a 1v2, etc). That’s not how it should be every game, but that’s the difference between someone saying they are stuck when they solely contribute their 20% and a good player who puts the team on his/her back when the time calls for it. Carry mentality.
Im quite sure that the vast majority off players who shout about MMR hell use it as an excuse. Far easier to blame the system over your own sucky gameplay.
Yup. I’ve said the same thing in other threads.
@Eura’s title question of “where is this MMR hell” ?
Did you really expect to hit it while playing Ranger? Hahaha. To find it, you have to first off, not care about winning – non-meta build isn’t enough, you have to not be in a carry mindset.
Second is to play at the tier/division start of Emerald, Sapphire, or Ruby, and lose most winnable matches because you’re heavy, instead of carrying.
Seeing as you didn’t lose Pips for all the matches you didn’t care to win, now your MMR is pretty out of place in the PIP range you’re in.
From here, you play at off peak hours, repeatedly get instant pops with the same baddies in the same boat as you, or worse, say to hell with it, and try to get some Thief/Warrior wins for your achievements.
Then your account is officially gonna take the sudden mindset of carrying in order to get out. The same person who screwed up this account so badly will have to struggle for a long time to repair this.
Tldr, you can’t really find MMR hell as a high level player, because you reach out and grab the winnable matches every time.
Prepare to be flamed extra hard for this comment because people don’t feel like you can relate to their experiences.
Edit: Wow that was quick. It already happened before I could finish typing this.
Ty for posting this Eura. However, as you can see people will completely disregard what you say to convince themselves it’s the system keeping them down, not their own skill level. I don’t think anything can convince them otherwise, even if an ANet dev came in here and straight up said mmr hell doesn’t exist.
So, from another thread where an Anet Dev came in and said this yesterday
This is a really great analysis. I appreciate all the work you put into this. We recognize the problems that the season 2 matchmaking is causing and are looking into solutions that will provide a good experience and satisfy our goals for the league system.
Yes I saw that post. Nowhere does he say that mmr hell exists, only that they acknowledge the issues people are having with the system. People don’t enjoy losing 10 times in a row, even if they’re part of the reason they’re losing.

I’m in emerald division and I’m seeing the mordremoth and dragon finishers on multiple players on other team. So … I thought those finishers were really cool and I looked to see where I could get them. Say for both of them you have to rank up, but doesn’t say how high.
So, me and my friend in emerald are wondering if we are facing ruby and diamond ranked players. If so, it might explain my huge loss streaks. (And that is my perspective just from the “other side of the pond,” so to speak.
You can see the divisions of the enemy team players once the match is over.
Pass me the account info. I’ll get it out of “mmr hell” and into legendary for you.
Sure you will. If you’re so hot, do it. You can do it all by yourself. Just make an alt account. Deliberately tank the character – get the win/loss ratio at about 47% or lower – usually takes about 100 losses – you usually need a long consecutive streak to catch the loss bus. Now start streaming. Breeze your way to legendary from there. Do it. Prove it.
Or shut up.
Sorry I upset you. Pass me your info too and I’ll get you out of emerald.
You didn’t upset me. I’m in ruby. Why on earth would I pass my acct info to u? Just pair up w/ me and get me out of ruby. Or, make an alt acct yourself, tank it, and then stream the ride up. GL!
Why would I team up with you to carry you out of ruby when the whole point is to show that getting to legendary can be done solo even with low mmr as long as you improve your game.
People need to stop making excuses and improve at the game. Coming to the forums and complaining about mmr hell is never going to help you.
I play 10 hrs a day. I spend 20 mins a day on forums. Nuff said.
Getting to legend w. mmr hell is not doable, possibly impossible. Ur talking about getting to legend solo, and getting better as u rank up. That’s not what the rest of us r talking about or complaining about. MMR hell is a losing streak that can’t be broken, until it ruins ur mmr and tanks ur win/loss ratio and then u get matched w/ more kitten players against better opposition, and u lose more, and the cycle repeats endlessly. Real fun.
U know not what u r talking about, cuz ur talking sunny oranges when the rest of us r talking bad apples.
What are you basing these assumptions about mmr on? Did you get a quote from an Anet employee saying these things, or are you just taking them off the top of your head? It seems like the ladder. MMR is hidden, nobody knows what their mmr is. Even if you lose a bunch of games in a row, it doesn’t mean you have low mmr.

Why not just team up with POP instead of having his account info
Because I don’t need to team up with anyone. I did it solo. My friend did it solo. Hell, half the people in my guild are diamond or legendary at this point. Most of them solo or duo q’d. But we must ALL be blessed to have great teammates every game and high mmr amirite?
What was your MMR before and how did you perform in Amber and Emerald? I have another account that has only been used in Custom Arena’s and I’m really tempted to go use it. Though if I did, and sailed to Diamond, I’d quit the game outright. Any system that could be so utterly hateful and bent, I could not support.
There’s no way to know what your mmr is. It’s hidden.
Pass me the account info. I’ll get it out of “mmr hell” and into legendary for you.

No
And every other post from every other user in this forum disagrees with you as well, Including pro players points of views on how the league/division system works.
Sorry, gonna prove you wrong with the “every other post from every other user” part, lol.
You’ve proved nothing except that you’re a high mmr player who got gifted a ride to legendary.
And bigfoot exists. I like to project my lack of skill and the fact I’m stuck in a low division on to others, assuming their road to legendary was all luck. Who am I?
Yeah, let’s have the OP upload a vid so all you wannabe pros that came here to troll can line up like a firing squad. Yeah, right.
I agree with the OP. Whether they’re a “good” player or not is not for me, or any of you, to judge. What they say is true though. The balance of the game is completely awful. Just take a look at the current pro series. Mirror matches? That’s not fun at all.
Except most of the things he said aren’t true at all, or just plain wrong. Let me know what division you’re stuck in and i’ll try to help you improve and get out of this “mmr hell” people keep insisting exists.
Pretty sure if you leave a match before it’s over, it counts as a loss…
Eh, NA is not half as competitive as EU. I don’t mean to offend you or talk you down OP, what you are doing is great. However I think most ruby players are on par with NAs legendary. Most NA players complain of queue times being of 30-40 minutes and I hardly see this in EU ruby/diamond. Even when I queue as a 5-man premade (i supposedly play against 5-man premades too, not soloQ guys)
I also watched one member of team PZ on twitch to carry people up to legendary (well not the whole thing), but while he was in Emerald, idk it seemed like that guy can take on the whole enemy team alone. They were that bad. I was emerald in EU, none of the teams were like that. And even then, someone in chat asked him about his input on the matchmaking and he did say that matchmaking is flawed in the way that it groups lower tier players with higher tier players, effectively giving the higher tier players a better chance at winning.
So I take this with a bit grain of salt. Would love to be proven otherwise.
IMO if you are in a match where you were supposed to win but you lose, you should lose more pips. And receive a greater hit on your MMR. Pretty sure most legendary players are ez in 1v1
Yeah no I’ve watched EU streamers and NA streamers who switched regions to play on EU. EU players are just as bad. The only place where they “have more competition” is the pro league.
Which division of EU have you seen? Because at the last tiers of sapphire things start to get rough and even more so at ruby and diamond is basically what you can expect in legendary there’s literally no difference currently.
I’ve seen all divisions. Watching Leeto fight through ruby and diamond was just sad. I mean… Helseth constantly calls you guys peasants and shows his whole chat the simple mistakes his pug teammates are making. EU is just as bad.
Getting ‘stuck’ in ruby is a very important topic regarding how best league should operate. We changed matchmaking to make the ladder more prestigious and so far it has done that. Divisions are aligning with skill level much better than season 1. The product of this change is that the bulk of players who hover around the middle of the mmr curve should stay in sapphire and ruby. Win rate will level out at 50% because there are plentiful players of similar mmr in the same division.
Should average players be able to climb out of the middle divisions by grinding? This removes prestige and can make matchmaking worse within a division, but always allows a sense of progression.
Should average players stay in the middle divisions because that’s where they belong at their skill level? This retains prestige and only improving skill will allow climbing, but rewards and progression stop at some point through the season.
Is there an incentive that could be added to league games for players who have reached their appropriate division and can no longer climb?
You keep using this word ‘prestige’ and while I’m sure you understand the meaning of the word I’m not quite sure you understand the context you’re using it in.
This is a link to Twitch for Guild Wars 2 channels and while I have no idea what time of day you’ll check this I am certain there will be 2-3 streamers at this ‘prestige’ level you talk about actually playing the game. This is the section of the community you’re appealing to? The balance is broken, the que times are broken, the HOTM queuing is broken, the mismatch of teams taking place during queuing is broken and you’re worried about a superficial system placed on top of all that?Beyond all that, as a company you (Anet) made this game appeal to the casual, now you’re rocking in here talking about elite players. Um, what? You (Anet) implemented a system that forces ‘average’ players to regularly get rofl stomped and then punishes them with increasingly bad matches because of it. It’s surprising people have issue with this current matching system? Have you seen Wildstar lately, how did that work out?
Honestly, it’s like watching someone falling out of a wheelchair. The sooner this games dies the better for all concerned.
Prestige isn’t hard to understand. The harder it is to get to legendary, the more prestigious that division becomes. The only thing you and others are arguing is that you think it’s mainly the mmr system screwing you over and not that maybe you could improve your gameplay and eventually climb the divisions.
You should reread what I wrote, I was discussing the wider context of the term.
Also, I didn’t mention a single thing about my own progression.
You didn’t have to mention your progression. I’ve seen enough of these posts to know when someone isn’t progressing and proceeds to come to the forums.
The personal attacks man, you have literally no idea who I am. This isn’t an ‘us’ and ‘them’ thing, this is a discussion. Lots of people seem to think they have to white knight this system, which really is just as bad as the git gud people you seem to have issue with. We can just sit here and have a discussion just as easily as attacking eachother for no reason.
Chill or bait, whatever floats your boat but contribute at least.
Am I wrong? You didn’t really address that. Are you actually progressing through the divisions or are you stuck?

Do I deserve to be legendary? Not sure.
You don’t
It doesn’t exist.
Oh no, you have to fight for wins? How horrible.

Yes, horrible. As I said, some people might enjoy that sort of thing, but I have absolutely no interest in it. I just want to get my wins and move on to something I actually enjoy doing, and ever round where winning does not occur is nothing more than a complete waste of my time.
Maybe it’s in your best interest to get better at pvp. The better you are, the more you’ll win…. and the less time you’ll waste doing something you don’t enjoy.
People will convince themselves by any means necessary that it’s the system screwing them over. That it can’t possibly be their lack of skill. The same thing happens irl. There’s a term for it but it’s escaping me…
Obviously not everyone comprehend nor can read match or English; that’s what I am getting from your post. Because if you had read any of the info posted on MMR, the algorithm being used, you would have seen the bigger picture. It’s truly sad when primates have a better understanding of math/ English than human. (fyi: I am.in the research field)

It’s a form of projection.
A projection backup by the facts?? Uhm wierd indeed.
If you could provide where these facts are, posted by ANet preferably, along with how it’s forcing people into huge lose-streaks I would greatly appreciate it. From what I’ve read, for a couple weeks people will be forced into skewed matches as the higher mmr people climb through lower divisions. However, this basically means that the people with low mmr getting slaughtered every game have just that… low mmr. Maybe they deserve to stay where they are, sapphire and ruby.

One word = double thief and druids … I faced 3 thieves and 2 revs totally. They totally rekt us.
I don’t think you understand how the expression “one word:____” works. You follow up the colon with one word.
Plot twist: you were the ele and this is another Necro op post…?
All I can say now, dear reapers, scrappers….eventually the curtain will fall , the show won’t go on forever and when that time comes, I hope you’ll still like the anet way of dealing with balance.
Eventually meaning the exact amount of time eles were top of the meta? Because that would be all through the d/d cele meta and all of season 1 leagues, which is a very long time. I’m not sure you want reapers and scrappers at the top that long.
Not much to see here everyone. Yet another necro is faceroll thread. Move along.
Many people had far above 50% win rate. I know I did, and I was usually solo.
If I had my right hand on my mouse, that means I have to use my left hand for my skills but then I can’t move my character. See what I mean?
No I don’t really see what you mean. I can press one of the wasd keys while pressing 1-4. Doing this while holding right mouse button lets you turn as fast as you want.
Since you’re not using your mouse, I assume you backpedal. This puts you at a huge disadvantage. But you already mentioned that I think.
I also have keys bound to the button on the side of my mouse and my scroll wheel on my mouse. They are easier to reach than any key on my keyboard because my hand is already on it.
The Mist Initiative is not some elite group of pvpers. They accept anyone into the guild.
Yeah this would be fun but I can’t imagine how long the queue times would be.
You should expand your thinking, there are some ways around that. If no other systems are implemented there would obviously be some popular classes that everyone wants to play and if you queue as such you would get long wait times. But when ppl realize this they start to queue as other professions to get lower queues. And of course you would like to play what you play best and tryhard in ranked but when you really get competitive you get a team and then queue times would not be a problem anymore. But you are absolutely right, this is could become a problem if nothing else is done.
In MMOs that have trinity, in some cases, you have an option to queue as a dps, tank and healer at the same time. So, you can choose to queue as a specific profession and get long queue times, or you can queue as everything and get lower queue times at the cost of not getting to choose what to play. And as you can already swap professions in sPvP this wouldn’t be a big change.
What I think would be ideal is that you could queue with multiple profession at once and when you get to a match you have to choose what to play (or the game chooses for you). This is what every other moba game does.
So people would have to play what they don’t want to play just to decrease q times. You should expand your thinking. This would create other problems.
Yeah this would be fun but I can’t imagine how long the queue times would be.
Why’d you post this in the pvp section?
Really? Sounds pretty bad to me, considering chill doesn’t have stacks.
Man, I didn’t know necros had only access to chill.
Necros do not stack well, but since there’s no cap on conditions anymore, the amount of bleed they were doing must have been insane.
Sure, it could have been insane. But any stacked condi class can max out bleeds. Reaper’s main source of condi damage is chill, which doesn’t stack. Hence why a 3 man reaper team sounds pretty bad. 3 condi thieves could accomplish more, which is saying a lot.
