Portal Bombing is an ever dieing tactic. Many guilds/servers are already adapting to when culling becomes a thing of the past and are working on different tactics. The tactic is becoming a situational move as opposed to the “only” move.
Y’know, no video game should make you unhappy. If it does, folks should assess what they’re getting out of it.
Its no worse then being unhappy about someone hoping you get crushed in a video game lol
You don’t make us unhappy. You make us pity you and many of us sincerely hope you reevaluate things if a video game makes you this upset.
I am very disappointed at all of the players who jumped servers to SoR. When the going gets tough, the tough jump over to the server in the lead I guess.
Most of all, I blame ArenaNet for ZERO INACTION on a big problem for the past 4 months. Who gives a flying crap about guesting at this point? The best option would have been to just give all accounts 1 free server transfer and be done with it. Instead, WvW has turned into a digital version of duck-duck-goose with the world transfer feature.
Why are you disappointed? They are making it more difficult for people to transfer servers so there will be less bandwagoning. Of course people are going to use their last free chance to jump to a place they might find more fun.
Please don’t think they came here to dominate T2. They came here to make SoR competitive in T1. I can speak for all of us when I say the sooner we get out of T2 the better. I dont think any of us like steamrolling people in PPT.
None of you like steamrolling? I have seen SoR spawn camping on numerous occasions. Or sending 50+ to wipe out 10 SBI players.
So spare me the “We feel so bad!” when you have 20 players standing outside spawns.
Not our fault you keep coming out the same entrance…
Finally I get to pain train MORD.
Until you go to JQ.
AND if you can get thru this Herd of SAHP/YAKI/NYS/SYN protecting me. Muwahhaha
I thought they ruled out JQ?
I have a wonder: if Sanctum of Rall enters T1, we would have 4 Tier 1 capable servers.
Does that mean us in T2 will always have a benched T1 server dominating us?
I would guess that would be the case, but that’s exactly what SoR has been doing for the last 2 and a half months. There is a lot to be said for being the gatekeeper to Tier 1, and that’s what the tier 2 blue server will always be.
While it sucks to lose stuff over night, I always knew there would be fights somewhere, and towers and keeps to take back.
If you are there for the fight and to have fun, it is a blast most nights. If you are there to win…..not so much.
I have a wonder: if Sanctum of Rall enters T1, we would have 4 Tier 1 capable servers.
Does that mean us in T2 will always have a benched T1 server dominating us?
I hope not….this happened back when the game first launched with HoD, JQ, SBI, and ET(?). It was terrible for the tier 2 servers and the odd tier 1 server left to drop to tier 2. There was no fun in any of that. I’d rather have 6 tier one servers all capable of winning each and every week.
Sanctum of Rall is alright :P Their NA is pretty hektik. Can compete with sos’ if not better having experienced it myself. IMO they’d be more successful than blackgate in t1 if they filled up a bit more in the sea/oceanic/eu areas.
Also, I know people posting on the forums does not represent a whole server but going by peoples posts I’ve seen over the months, it appears to me that SoR are the only bunch who seem to have respect for SoS :P
We have a love/hate/deep respect type of relationship with SoS. Our matchups with you were probably the most fun many of us on this server have had.
Interesting news coming for tonights matchup.
Do tell!!!
The wide range of conversations we have in TS are reason enough to transfer.
I’m even more amused by their silence on this whole thread. I’d say 95% of the posts in this thread are against this, yet apparently according to ANet, this was a widespread complaint? Ummmmm…..
Stop complaining about your ELE’s with 1 or 2 AOE attacks… What about us necromancers?
ALL our staff skills are AOE. except the number 1. But Skill number 2, 3, 4 AND 5 are AOE…
Good fight necro…
I’m more complaining about the nerf in general. I don’t think many people thought this was an item that needed to be looked at to begin with.
Live stream. AoE is getting nerfed across the board it sounded like.
So essentially there is no point in playing a staff ele now? Talk about nerfing a class out of existence.
I have to tell you all, we came from IOJ, a server thats taking its last breath. We had offers to go to kaening, BG and others. We have a rep from being formally Totn. sanc etc.
We selected SoR because of the community on this server. They approached us to come over, we didnt approach them. They made a great pitch, we sat here on the server for a day with 2nd accounts watching the communication, the TS servers etc.
We put the vote to our guild, with all the offers we had and the guild vote was 100% to come here. It had nothing to do with placement or score. It was the best choice and best offer to us.
Bandwagon fans per say are those who just make a leap because someone or a team is winning, there is no thought behind it. We made a decision after emails and long talks with SoR.
We have made the best decision for us, sadly not so much for the rest of you
Be warned Hel is coming.

CommanderBandwagons join the winning team, period. If you did not like or join them before they were winning then you are on their bandwagon. So if you joined this week, you are a bandwagon hopper. Dont confuse it with flowery justifications. Words have meanings and wanting to not be a certain word does not mean you are not.
bandwagon
When someone adopts a popular point of view for the primary purpose of recognition and/or acceptance by others.
Man, Nanlawon has been posting on our forums forever and everyone hates him. Then this new chick, Toolesbabe, joins the forum and just hops on the bandwagon ripping on him, even though she’d never even read a single post by him. WTF?!Bandwagon
To follow the group as it has the majority or a vast number of followers
jenny jumped on the bandwagon for fear of appearing the outcast of the groupbandwagon
What people will “ride” or get on when they want to be accepted, espescially in the NFL. People will get on the (Colts) bandwagon and suddenly become their fans because they are doing really good or because they have a large number of fans so they can be accepted.People will ride a bandwagon even if they dont give a kitten about football or whatever the bandwagon is.
This kid at my school wears a Cincinnati Bengals shirt to school when he is a Denver fan.
Me yells:BANDWAGON!
So….considering they joined the server when we were losing earlier in the week, they can’t be a bandwagon according to your definition, right?
I’m hoping servers in the 3-6 slot get some transfers to make them on par with the 1 and 2 servers. It would be great for tiers 1 and 2 to be on relative equal footing and having servers swapping back and forth between the tiers regularly. Servers hopping to the servers winning in tier 1 already aren’t going to help matters at all.
This will give players a progression path where they earn new WvW-only abilities and bonuses
Yeap..Realm Rank system finally coming to W3..Sweet
Wonder if they’ll do it character based or account based.
o_O Going from ‘’progression path’ to ‘ranking’ is an big jump, me think. What makes you so sure it will not be ‘do x events’ and ‘have y kills’ to ‘progres’ ?
Also… I am pretty worried about ranks in WWW because they usually favor the DPS-people. Currently, the loot is purely based on DPS: no matter how much you buffed, debuffed and/or healed, if you didn’t do enough damage on a mob, you don’t get loot. I hope that if they implement a ranking system (which I don’t see as needed in WWW, but okay) that this raking will not purely be based on DPS.
I’m more scared that individuals will get prestige from taking camps/towers/keeps. This will just lead to point swapping to gain prestige (anyone remember War?). I really hope they put more thought into this than that group over at Mythic.

OK, What About WvW (Or WuvWuh)?
Many of the features, expanded reward systems, and potentially even live event storylines described above will also play a part in World vs. World in 2013. We also have other specific features that we’re focusing on developing for our WvW community that we want to make sure you’re aware of.
Polishing the existing WvW experience to ensure it shines in every way possible is a major goal for us which requires addressing major areas we know need a lot of attention. We’ve been working on two of these projects for a while now, and both have proven far more complicated to solve than we’d hoped, but we’re getting really close and have made tremendous progress.
Firstly, we’ll be adding paid server transfers, with time limitations and WvW restrictions, and guestingability, which allows players to visit friends on other servers in every part of the game except for WvW. To encourage players to stick with a single server for WvW and fight for the pride of that server, server changes will incur a fee and have time limitations. Second, we’ll make improvements to culling. We recently ran small tests on Live to help us move towards eliminating as much culling from WvW as possible. The results have been promising, and we have a number of additional culling features in development. If all goes well, our hope is 2013 is the year culling ceases to exist, or is as minimal as possible in the WvW experience.
We’re adding new features as well. We’ll introduce a system of prestige and advancement specifically designed for WvW. This will give players a progression path where they earn new WvW-only abilities and bonuses, and with them gain prestige and visible titles/recognition. Also, we’ll add a new motivation to the WvW domain that goes beyond the overall weekly score to give more short term reasons to be winning in WvW as well. We’ll discuss all these features in more detail as we get closer to release!
I hope they have more planned for WvW other than paid server transfers and titles. If this is our big “February/March” update….I’m not overly impressed…
EBG is just terrible. The whole place has no point. It needs to be about 4 times bigger than it is right now. As it is now all you do is capture tower – build treb – treb stonemist – faceroll stonemist – die.
The place is so poorly laid out and designed as it is right now. There is little strategy involved in the whole place.
Tier 1 and Blackgate are the only servers that really have a noticeable Oceanic presence on their servers in tier 1 and 2.
I’m still trying to figure out why it’s so difficult to have a client-side “draw distance” slider like most MMOs in the past 10 years.
For the people with toasters.
Agreed, this is all I’m trying to get at. Just some simple tweeks to allow those playing to continue playing without having to go buy new rigs.
I’m confident that Anet will come up with this type of solution.
This is something I’m ok with. I was referring more to the above poster saying essentially, “Turn it off, if they can’t play that is their problem”. As long as everyone has the ability to play the game at a functional level I’m good.
Agreed. Creating a game where the “haves” have a clear advantage over the “have nots” is bad for business and bad for the game. People will just tune out and quit playing if their system wasn’t “up-to-snuff”.
Explain, please, how that’s preferable to having the entire player base suffer from invisible enemies, making both the “haves” AND “have nots” tune out and quit playing?
I’m not sure why I need to explain human nature here. When one side has an advantage that the other can’t achieve, they will quit. The culling isn’t bad to the point of unplayable either. Quit making it out into this huge issue. I have it happen maybe twice a week where I walk into a zerg (and sometimes through it). I can cough up the silver for now…
Just turn off culling. If you didn’t pay the price to have a decent machine and/or connection, you pay the price in-game due to poor performance. This has been a simple fact of PC gaming for as long as there have been PC games that were capable of taxing the systems they ran on.
If you want everyone to have an identical gaming experience, then everyone needs to have identical hardware. That’s one reason why consoles exist. If you want a console experience, lobby ANet to create an MMO for consoles.
So you want ANet to essentially exclude a large portion of the gaming population from participating in WvW (face it most of the people that play are casual) so you can look at pretty graphics? Bad business decision. I’m not saying it doesn’t need to get fixed, but this definitely isn’t the long term solution either. A slider for the short term would be OK, but long term this would destroy WvW.
Habib: The consensus here is pretty clear, since many people are suggesting essentially the same thing: that culling should be placed in settings where the user can control it. Those who have bandwidth or rendering issues can simply leave culling on and have the exact same performance they get now. Those who have systems that can handle the increased bandwidth/rendering would have the option to turn off culling completely. If this is at all possible, please consider implementing this.
No thanks, my system is way above min specs, but giving me and anyone else the option to turn it off and thereby creating a two tier PvP system with those that can see other players and those that can’t, is simply a bad idea. (nor for that matter would it necessarily solve the issues)

Blackgate might have won, but I think the title of “winner” should go to TC. BG clearly outnumbered TC when they were attacking the worm but TC came in, wiped BG, then took the worm for themselves. Ahhhh, that victory tasted so good.
SoR clearly lacks the coverage during this time to even make a play at the worm. PvWorm more TC and BG. Quit thumping your chests due to a clear coverage issue.
Just one thing OP is wrong about: rezzing needs to be removed entirely, not just in combat. Because if everybody can be rezzed, the winning zerg will always have zero losses, which makes fighting pretty much pointless when you’re heavily outnumbered.
I’ve been part of zerg busting groups of 15 v 40 and won these fights. It happens quite often actually. Lately with the way the meta game has been playing, numbers does not always guarantee you anything any longer. Not nearly like it used to about 2 months ago. Groups are starting to get very strategic and coordinated. It’s actually refreshing from most games where a zerg v zerg is done in about 15 seconds.
Guys drop it. I’ve spoken to Maelwaedd.
They went about it a fine way on the forums.
But we need DETAILS Silv!!! What was said and who was right? We can’t survive without our daily dose of “Days of Out Lives”!!!!!!!!!!!
In the meantime, can we go back to the experimental alternative method you had a while back? It was so much better.
I disagree on this completely. I often found I couldn’t see my allies and we couldn’t coordinate anything. We never knew if each other were pushing in or pulling back. Frankly, they both are terrible. I’d rather see all my allies for more coordination and get a few of them to show up first.
You could still see the green dots on the mini map for your allies.
It’s way worse when you get the door down, charge into a keep and the only indication there’s any enemy there at all is the red circles that appear at your feet. Then as you’re sitting there dead “Holy kitten, there’s a lot of bad guys here”.
If you are balls to the walls rushing into a keep, you are doing it wrong.

If there is one thing that ruins a lot of WvW combat for me then it must be the abundance and relative ease of resurrections in combat.
GW2 is the only large scale PvP game where two large zergs can go at each other for minutes without anyone actually dying.
The fact that anyone, even defeated players can be brought back in a matter of seconds really has a detrimental impact on combat dynamics. More often than not it doesn’t come down to superior tactics or positioning but simply who can keep rezzing people constantly.
Even ignoring the odd nature of downed state, with the 300% normal HP, Rallying mechanics and corpse repositioning I think we can all agree that at least dead people should remain dead for the sake of PvP.
It would be hugely beneficial to WvW (and the game it total imo) if resurrections were only possible while out of combat.
At least that way Zerg vs. Zerg fights might actually be resolved.
I love the downed state personally. It adds a whole new dynamic to it all and provides a lot more strategy than one would think. How can you complain about long fights either? I don’t want a zerg vs zerg battle to be decided in 20 seconds. I want those fights to take a few minutes to play out. There is more strategy in play in 2-3 minutes than there ever will be in a 20 second fight.
Issue #1 was the easiest to deal with because we can basically just throw money at the problem. When we first started down the road toward removing culling from WvW I took a bunch of bandwidth measurements and then went to the executives and said, essentially, “Hey, if we disable culling our network traffic will increase by X%. Are we ok with that?”. The answer I got was a clear and unambiguous “yes!” So issue #1 isn’t a problem after all.
Thanks for the update but if this part of the issue has been dealt with why has culling gotten worse? A couple of days ago in my tier all 3 servers were battling in the Stonemist Lords Room, I circled the room for probably 5 minutes without a single enemy or enemy siege rendering. I then went down and thats when they began rendering. Why did it take going down to render?
Likely because they didn’t tell the client to stop doing what it has all along. Just because their would be more bandwidth means nothing if the client isn’t programmed/utilized to use it. If they don’t turn the culling off, that extra bandwidth is doing nothing. Essentially, they are catering to the lower spec PC user right now and leaving high spec PC with wasted hardware.
Do you have any kind of estimate of how long it will take? I am not asking for a date, but even some vague no sooner then X and no later then Y would be nice.
Given how little has been done for WvW since release, we still have one set of armor as purchasable rewards for example, I think popular opinion is that it is not a priority and as such is culling in WvW a priority?
Thanks
I’d be happy with just a standard “no sooner than X” portion of that answer.
@TC people last night in their homeland. Taking your hoard on a tour of your borderland last night was some of the most fun I have had in a long time. Hope you enjoyed the trip around the map.
Who would have thought they would follow a 10 man with their 45+ from Longview up to the north camp, back around to the west camp, back up to longview while a group of 15 takes an upgraded garrison?
You know you’ve been playing a server too long when you can run around and start identifying people by their armor.
So…is the consensus that SBI will be dropping to T2?
So what does dragon brand do with its 300+ ocieanic players when there is only 100 people on between the other 2 servers?
Transfer to SoR and we move to tier 1?
Is this what you guys do in tier 3? End it in some cool way?
Pshh, BG ends it with doing pve, jump puzzles and saving up gold because we’re so far ahead.
There goes the scoreboard posturing. So sad.
Look who’s turn it is to relax, it was a joke. Or could you not tell from “Pshh” and the smiley face. I appreciate TC’s in general, light attitude.
After 5 pages of SOR “scoreboard posturing” I’d think you’d be able to recognize it by now. But in case you haven’t this is it:
BG comes back from behind for the how many weeks in a row now? Its alright guys, there’s always next week!
Pay attention. That was sarcastic, dry humor.
You would think that it would be evident 11 pages in.
Starting with only about 15 silver… it literally took me 5 days playing 2-3 hours a day to make an ascended backpack.
Really not a “gear treadmill” here at all.
I think the issue is more that we shouldn’t have to PvE to gear ourselves for WvW.
Must’ve recently transferred over… Thanks for showing that, he is kicked.
You mean you disavowed a secret agent! That is standard in the spy world. Anyways the guys probably a triple agent spying for IoJ. Or worse… the crab people!
He’s really a Krait super assassin in disguise…
Nice, and ICoa on SoR…
Yo recall your guild members off SoR please ICoa.As for score:
No…ICoa is an upstanding guild and would never do/permit anything like that…
Don’t get so defensive.
Breathe and take it easy.
I think I really did strike a nerve with this one.
Oh, I get it now. You get to post blatant lies, but when someone exposes you for openly lying, you pretend like you’re the bigger man.
I’m done with you and your guild. I would like nothing more than your Asuran CoF head delivered to me on a silver platter.
I thought by now you would get the fact you are being trolled. Apparently not.
Knt and Icoa get so upset so easily.
Its quite amusing, I think I struck a nerve.
Swing and a miss. I’m unguilded.
I highly doubt his post was directed at you.
And again people decide to totally ignore the fact ascended gear just got release, aswell as ignoring the fact Anet has already said it will be accesable through WvW or such.
We didn’t ignore it. The big question is “accessible when?” 10 months from now isn’t acceptable, especially when we will have more ascended gear surely added before then making the gear gap even greater. It should have been there at it’s release (as they have admitted themselves).
We can rarely get through a whole week without getting match threads closed. That leads me to believe there is a lot of server pride out there.
Ascended gear is almost no stat change at all. I’m quite content with my exotics.
I doubt you will be saying that when you start going up against people in full ascended gear later on while you are “sticking to your guns” on the exotics.
All I can say is that the Jan/Feb patch better have ascended gear progression through a means of WvW or I know a few guilds that will be moving on.
I wouldn’t mind the treadmill so much if I could get the stuff in WvW. It is nice to have something to work towards. I will NOT PvE to get ascended gear though. Period.
Tier 8 is where it is for small mans. We transfered to Kain from SoR after all the bandwagoners destroyed our queues. I can tell you the tier means absolutely nothing other than number in coverage. The gank groups on tier 8 are much better fights than you will find trying to dodge to mass zergs of the upper tiers.
The best thing is even the zergs in this tier generally max out at about 40ish players. So you still have a fighting chance to extend them out and wipe em.
As a bonus, if you roll against us as Ferg, I’ll send you 10g if you beat our group in open field!!! Either way is a win win, always looking for more challenging fights.
SoR has queues? I haven’t had a queue (outside of the Friday reset) for weeks during NA primetime.
Also…get rid of the badges actually taking up inventory space. Have them be a currency like gold and karma currently are. I shouldn’t have to have 15 stacks of badges in my bank…
