instead of using GS and sword/warhorn for mobility (though, those 2 are insanely awesome at maintaining movement) if you’re using hammer or axe in your mainhand, you can use Earthshaker or Eviscerate and right before you land it, you can sheathe your weapon or immediately swap weapons and it’ll only go on a 3 sec CD rather than a 7-10 sec CD. You can gain some pretty decent distance without waiting for the cool down. I’ve tried this with Rush and it doesn’t work, it might work with Savage Leap, but I haven’t tried it yet…so, there ya go.
What do you think of it as an adept trait? Personally, because of its condition removal, the Strength line seems like a kind of odd place for it. Maybe it should be moved into the Defense or Tactics trait lines.
But, what I really want to know, is do you think it should have an added mechanic or do something a little different than what it currently does now.
I’ve ran it with a pure CC-confusion build in Pvp with hammer and mace/shield using Carrion amulet and I used healing surge+restorative strength. It worked pretty well (I was in Solo-queue for the most part)
What would you like to see changed or added or what do you think of the trait in general? Im pretty sure there may have been a thread or two discussing this though
Bulls Charge has never overshot my targets for me ever. Now, Rush has been a bit more problematic for me. Sometimes i’d just get the mobility toward my target and the strike wouldn’t happen. it would just go right to my GS auto-attack. And also, Rush doesn’t always work 100% of the time against enemy environmental structures like walls/barricades/burrows/catapults/etc.
However, id occasionally use Bulls Rush in Pvp, though there are some better skills depending on the build you want. it’s a pretty decent skill tho
Ogre Pet Whistles come from Gladefall Run, in the Iron Marches.
Fire Elemental Powder comes from Fuller Cistern, in Fireheart Rise.
Hope that helps! I’m a big fan of Fire Elemental Powder, though I haven’t tried the pet whistle yet.
awesome, thanks a lot
where do you get the ogre pet items from? I know it’s in one of the ogre villages, but is it in Blazeridge steppes? or Iron Marches? I’m pretty sure it’s in Blazeridge steppes, and if any1 knows which guy you get them from, that’d be nice to know, cuz i know that you can get harpies or rock dogs or fire elementals from them
you won’t get very far with a condition Ele no offense, or unless you do well with it, idk but i never had an luck with condi-builds. but it was only effective when I whipped out Fiery Greatsword, and my god that just peels away their health. but yeah, i wouldn’t rely on conditions TOO much as an elementalist.
I’m just looking forward to the massive CD reduction on Tempest Defense and shock auras XD
yeah it is a little bit glassy, but once I get at least lvl60, so i can use all my traits, i’ll try it with some of the lower fractals.
just for kicks. and yeah, it bothers the crap out of me it thinks you’re saying t-i-t or something but we just wanna say w-o-u-l-d-n-’t i-t
Axe5 is viable with 25 bloodlust and 25 stacks of might, empowered/empower allies. It’s decent with 25 bloodlust + a few stacks of might +empowered and Destruction of the Empowered, but there’s nothing to stop u from using it. If u figure something out that makes it worth using, by all means, go for it!
how sketchy would it be to use 2 Superior Runes of Altruism and 4 Superior Runes of the Pack?
I can not say. My personal conviction is that staff is not the best choice for fractals. If you want to use it anyway then hopefully an adept of this weapon will advise you
“adept” lol. But i was just curious about how effective it would be, though there are some ppl who do well with staff in fractals. but thanks anyway
Then Anierna’s statement does not apply to you
Good luck leveling your ele, I am sure you will enjoy it !
thanks, but what do you think about it?
Also, what kind of staff build will work for fractals?
30/10/0/0/30 for my fire line, i’ll have Internal Fire(vi) the new Burning Fire trait(ii) and for now I just threw spell slinger as my master trait instead of the current Burning Fire and my GM is Pyromancers puissance.
this staff build will be for Pve and I think that with the buff to Arcane Retribution, it’ll be a decent setup as it offers a lot of might from runes, sigil, and glyph. And I might put blasting staff in for Arcane Mastery when the patch takes effect.
What kind of PvE do you play and with what kind of team mates?
I haven’t been on in the last few months, but i’ve only been keeping up with living story updates/patches etc and watching Ostrich Eggs/GW2PVPTV, Blackhive, and Coffeerages’ Twitch streams whenever they’re on.
I dont do Wvwvw yet. I left off with my elementalist who i’m still leveling with at like lvl 40 or something. And i’ve just been running with some champ trains/chain events etc, and my guild, Tail Swishers, is really helpful, fast and efficient when they’re lvling ppl.

it might be the prototype maps that the devs talked about on the Pvp Livestream on friday :o
does any1 even use this sigil at all? or would it be better just to stick with a superior sigil of bloodlust for overall damage?
And for Superior Sigil of Impact, I assume it might fit some classes/builds better than others of course, but there’s probably better choice sigils for those builds. Sigil of Impact might fit on a hammer warrior, or even a zerker d/d Ele.
hmm…maybe after the fractal patch/runes of resistance? idk that seems kinda iffy. It could work for some dungeons but mainly for lighter pve scenarios. i wouldn’t see this working in Wvw very well.
I’m just wondering if there’s a decent comp with Unscathed Contender, cuz that’s a pretty decent damage buff. Does any1 it? obviously you’re not gonna have luck using it 1v1 or something :P but maybe a 5guard group or something
Idk y the necro gets +400toughness on channeling skills and the Ele gets only 290. And necro’s have 8k more health than an Ele. Im not necessarily saying that those are “good” traits and that rarely i’ve seen them used, but if they’re there, why not?
For the sake of pvp please reconsider this patch change. I hope it isn’t too late.
Honestly, the guy who came up with this idea is just clueless. You are just showing how out of touch you are with your pvp community if you make this change. And lets be honest, this is a pvp trait. People in pve wont run this.
The reason this trait sucks is as follows:
1, It introduces a ridiculously hard counter WITH literally 0 counter play for a condition class. So as a necro you will be having these eles chasing you all game and you will just die. You cant dodge, cant block, cant stealth, and cant get him to 85-90% health because your weapons do attacks for 130 damage. So the best necro in the world will lose to a rank 10 ele. This is ludicrous in a game that wants to be competitive. You wont be able to hard or soft cc them.
Imagine in dota2 if you have some guy who is the best player around, and people watch him get schooled by some guy with 20 games ever just because a hero the new guy picked is immune to everything that the best player in the world can do. You see how that would make this game a joke like gw2 is becoming?
SKILL should matter. Not build wars and spam.
2, It is totally passive and skilless. The way the best player in the world will use this trait is identical to a rank 5 noob. It is completely ridiculous and skillless.
Literally everyone who actually plays tournaments hates passive BS and immunities. And so you just put both into some kitten cheesey trait. WTf? Ele doesnt even need buffs, let alone cheesey kitten. Just nerf all the other stuff in the game and you will find ele is very strong.
I am just shocked that they do these things and actually think it is good game design. It really makes it obvious why so many people quit this game when they do such things. People don’t like the following:
1, Losing to people 500x worse than them just because of spam/lame hard counter passive traits (see s/d thief spammers and immunity people).
2, Not being able to counter act anything someone does just because of a passive trait they selected in the heart of the mists.
3, Imagine being chased by one of the invulnerable wurms from under skyhammer in pvp. That is what it will be like for a condi necro being chased by an ele with diamond skin. You cant peel for urself, you cant slow them down and you cant do more than 100 damage per attack (lol). Does that sound fun to anet? Seems like it.
And I dont even care if this change makes ele op or not. This change signifies that anet dont listen to anyone good at pvp. Because nobody good at pvp wants ele (or any class) to have such a BS trait. People will keep quitting if you keep making should terrible design decisions. Even the baddies will hate this trait (and others like it) when they get good enough at the game to realise how lame it all is.
you make it sound like it’s bad you won’t be able to spam skills and win anymore. And also, Anet doesn’t not listen to ele players. Like there’s so many suggestions/complaints in forums from Ele’s that it can be hard to pick out what would be a good change/suggestion to the class that would make it a bit more balanced with the other classes. They can’t just make changes solely for Pvp, they do consider skill/trait changes in all of gw2. But I do agree with you in the sense of actual skill. it does suck when you lose to some new player who was told something like “play thief. use this setup and press these buttons. you won’t be able to get hit and you’ll crit for 10k and win.”
And I also want to note that rank doesn’t necessarily matter as much anymore (Skyhammer farming)
Im not entirely sure about the trait either, but I think they were kinda on the right track…if you’re complaining you can’t kill a class like the elementalist just by spamming a Condi auto-attack, that’s the dumbest thing i’ve ever heard. And 80-95% hp is really not that much at all for an elementalist…
And if you can’t wait/last 8-10 seconds vs a warrior using Berserker Stance, I understand how that’s not exactly “balanced” but I mean cmon…you can’t just rely purely on conditions for your damage, depending on your build though :P you can’t expect one build to do better against every other build …
magnetic is really nice, so is frost aura. but the only aura missing from ele’s is the chaos armor aura
Is it Fire Aura?
Frost Aura?
Shock Aura?
Magnetic Aura?
or all of the above? I think fire aura might be my favorite just because there’s so much access to it and plus it looks cool to be running around with a fire shield up 24/7 with a 2-3 ele group, along with the might.
After the dec 10 patch, you might see (there will be) more shock auras around
it is a bit over the place, but I’m just wondering if it’s usually better just to stick with all of the same gear type rather than splitting it up. And I don’t like the idea of ele’s being a Condi-bunker, even though there’s a lot of skills that offer decent condition damage, it just doesn’t come close to a necro or engi Condi bunker. ya know what i mean? And i’d also like to know, if you know, does Arcane Power proc Elemental Surge from every hit? (just wondering)
if you want to run a signet of restoration build, what are some things you want to keep in mind when building around it to make it effective? it’s obvious that ele’s have low base hp, but imo, you should have some gear with +vit and +tough at least so poison, bleed, burning, torment over time doesn’t eat away half your health in a few seconds.
It’s important to not build primarily on vitality, because it makes healing a bit harder to manage because your health pool is so big. For example, with a condi-bunker warrior, you might run something with settlers gear, melandru runes and lemongrass food + healing signet and maybe regen banners…or some variation. But regeneration is a little less effective/noticeable when your health is higher. That’s why you might stick with settler’s, because it offers good toughness, condition damage and healing.
Back to ele now.
Here’s a d/d SoR build I threw together that looks decent, but i’m looking for any extra help/improvements on it.

I’m not sure how much I really like the trait setup, but my gear selection kinda makes up for the loss.
It does not rely on 20-30 arcana, though I might have wanted to go 20 arcana…
It’s mainly a signet build+cleansing fire and with cantrip traits. I think I may have invested too much into vitality, because even I think anything over 16khp is a little much for an elementalist, however it has a good amount of toughness, and it offers decent direct damage and good condition damage. A few other things that bother me about my gear/traits, is my decision to add Sigil of Life just for the extra healing boost on SoR and using Diamond Skin b4 the dec10 patch.
If I were to rate this, i think i might give it a 7.5 maybe 8/10 for its current setup…
it’s a really different setup than I usually do, but i’d like some feedback and input and any other suggestions as long as it doesn’t change this build TOO much (as long as it’s reasonable)
My Engineer
how did u manage to get up to that spot in Spirit Watch? that’s above the base isn’kitten
k, another thing id like to ask if any1 knows, is how many conditions does Grim Spectre cure on allies and how many boons does it rip off of enemies?
This all started with the concern for ships as there were rocks just beneath the surface of the water near the docks at Lions Arch…
Any particular reason you’re singling out retaliation? There’s also no runes for vigor, aegis, or stability.
Neither are there runes for blind, cripple, immobilize, or vulnerability (though there are for most conditions). There’s a +20% fear duration but it’s a 6-rune bonus on a set that’s otherwise unrelated.
And there are sigils that boost the duration of most conditions, but not blind, confusion, fear, immobilize, or torment. (Interesting that there are many conditions boosted by sigils but not runes and vice versa, suggesting that it’s not a case of those conditions being considered too powerful to boost.)
There’s also a rune for daze and a sigil for stun, but not vice versa.
Of course, there was also no rune for confusion until they added Rune of Perplexity, so I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of seeing those other ones at some future time…
well, for one, aegis really doesn’t need duration, because it’s just one block and it’s not like you get more blocks for aegis duration. And if some classes don’t offer stability in their utilities, there might be stab as an elite. Vigor has a lot of procs on a lot of classes.
and you can just run condition duration traits and gear, food especially. food gives you +40% condition duration. thats huge! Also, some classes have traits that buff condition duration by 33% or 50%
Retaliation is already deadly enough as it is.
In WvW, Retaliation is borderline broken, since it’s a spammable boon, and there’s no counter to it beyond desperately trying to heal yourself. Even AoE boon removal can’t keep up, since Retal can just be immediately reapplied.
Retal probably isn’t a huge issue for most classes, but AoE classes like Staff Elementalists can easily kill themselves from an enemy group’s Retal, and there’s very little we can do to avoid it. It’s not as if we can tell our AoEs to stop damaging opponents partway through their durations. It’s like an non-cleansable condition.
Sorry for the short rant, but I would hate to see anything that adds to Retaliation’s effectiveness.
ah. I see what you mean. I almost forget about the bigger picture when something like that comes to mind and I suppose that would make it even worse when you pair Aoe confusion with retaliation
i just realized, besides +boon duration runes, there isn’t any retaliation runes. there has to be! retaliation is awesome
it’d be cool if Tarnished Coast/Ring of Fire was opened and something happened there…
Here would be mine. Elan Axisaver, Charr pilot of Ash Legion.
Nice pics, and I’m gonna go with the safe assumption that he is a thief? cuz i don’t see a pet…
Im not entirely sure but isnt one of the reasons Lich form is bad is because it butchers your crit damage. Also dagger is way better unless you use some pvt spec.
butchering crit damage? do you mean a change in crit damage calculation? because the actual crit damage value (in the char screen) stays the same (minus the weapon stats, i think).
I swear it use to reduce the crit damage. But maybe that was just when downscaled. Downscaling already completely butchers crit damage without transformations.
Idk about it butchering crit damage, but why even worry about that when it deals a crap ton of damage to begin with? Lich Form is like a free Deathly Perception and it does 3x more damage than life blast, actually make that like 3.5x more damage because of the faster cast rate.
dang. them horrors are pretty nifty
a lot of necro traits are kind okittenward to do anything about, because a lot of them are pretty good, minors too…
Death into Life is a little weird for necromancers and I just don’t know what to do with it :/
Spectral Mastery and Spectral Mastery should be combined…that’s a no-brainer, but then it’d probably be a GM trait.
And if Last Gasp/ Spectral armor isn’t going to grant stability, then at least spectral mastery should affect the CD of Last Gasp too.
imo, there’s a ton of traits that could easily be combined in for necro, especially the DS traits…but there would have to be a lot of balancing and testing so that it’s not ridiculously OP, but…I dunno
yeah, but Life blast just sends them one by one and if the conditions have shorter durations, u might not be able to get them all off… eh idk, maybe Bhawb is right
this is gold! XD
this has been happening a lot…like forever
kind of, but you’re just left sitting there with weakness and all these conditions and nothing to do with them. You could use plague signet, but i thot it might be decent to have a 2nd-like plague signet/plague form
Death nova with mark of horror is alright…but i see what u mean
Yes, I am talking about the underwater death shroud skill, Gathering Plague and it is somewhat underwhelming and I don’t really understand the point of it, because currently it’s just like plague signet minus the stun break and weakness to yourself.
Here’s what I had in mind:
Gathering Plague 30 second CD
You begin channelling, drawing in conditions from allies to yourself and the conditions linger around you for a time, inflicting yourself with weakness.
Channel range:1200
Radius: 240
(Then it would change into Plague Sending)
Plague Sending You unleash a spectral minion toward your foe and it transfers all the conditions you channelled, on your foe
this is just something that i thought of that might make uw death shroud a little more supportive and condition-y…
Lich Form is a really good elite for some necro builds, and the auto attack (which should just be activated rather than having to manually put it on auto attack every time you go into Lich form) I’m pretty sure has the same animation as staff auto attack. And it just feels weird transforming into this awesome Lich then sending off all these tiny little hands toward your foe. It would be neat if the projectile was changed into a skull or something along the lines of necro-ish or just make the claw bigger and hit your target, as well as a small area around, say 180 and slightly tone down the damage, not too much, but just a little
it’s funny, cuz every1 whining about hammer sucking has relied on its’ CC for damage, like, you can’t just rely on killing people purely from CC skills.
there’s two traits that have still bothered me (kinda) since release: Elemental Surge and Arcane Precision, mainly arcane precision. I just wish it was a better trait for a GM… A 10% chance on crit is unnoticeable but the trait itself is kinda decent as a minor trait. one thing that I’d like to see changed is just the titles swapped with each other. so the minor trait in GM would be Elemental Precision, then the major GM would be Arcane Surge. It would just make more sense description-wise…2nd, the critical hit chance of Arcane Precision(Elemental Precision) should be buffed to something like 25% at least.
Geomancers Freedom is pretty lackluster, considering warriors have Dogged March for an adept trait and it gives 3sec regen on a 10s CD every time they are chilled, crippled or immobd. Personally, i really think that Geomancers Freedom should be combined with Rock Solid to be worth a master trait.
I know i’m not the only one who wants a CD reduction on Armor of Earth, as well as Earth’s Embrace…
The last thing I want to suggest, though it might be a little OP, is if Soothing Winds removed immobilized, crippled and weakness whenever you applied swiftness to yourself. and I realize you can just use Windborne speed on staff, but this might help with mobility…though there’s only so many movement skills that elementalists have. I just didn’t know what else to suggest.
but so far, I like some of the changes being made that won’t force ele’s into 30 arcana anymore. It’ll be interesting to see how people like ele after the patch…
i’m just glad some people here appreciate the work that Anet has already done with patches/updates and LS and overall content with the game. Like, just go back to the releases info. and look at how much Anet has accomplished.
and also, i’d like to point out that they do, in fact, have lives outside of work :o and they can’t always be doing “this and that and fixing these bugs and glitches and nerfing X class because they’re too strong and buffing/reworking other classes’ skills and adding new content etc…” you get my point? though it would be nice to have some of those things they said would get to, but that was more of an estimate of what they wanted to do. And LS content takes up a lot of their time too…
If something needs to be urgently done, or would be prefered over the LS, time and resources should be reallocated to make it happen. There’s no point to piling more pepperonis onto a pizza if the dough went off in the first place.
Mmm…i’m pickin up what ur puttin down
