Just curious if the bank tab limit is intended, bought some gems and since the rest of the gem shop is either a gamble (1*) or not a good value (*2)… would like to keep buying bank tabs.

*1 dyes, minis, keys… I don’t like to gamble with real money.. gems bought with in game gold is fine.

*2 boosters, 1 toon bag slots, 1 use costumes (soul bound is okay).

While normally I don’t approve of farming, I don’t think this would count as it.

If a player put in the effort of leveling more than 1 toon to 80 I believe he/she should be rewarded by allowing him/her to gather the mats with each of them.

I mean if a company makes games and people take the time to do the content from beginning to end more than once… wouldn’t that speak well of the game??? Pretty sure Anet would be proud about it.

I think Anet put this (*1) not to stop regular players from doing it but to stop bots that teleport around them (also the reason for the diff locations), while not a elegant or fair solution sometimes fixes like these have to be in place even if it hurts the innocent. For an example of this see anywhere in the world, where, sometimes, —-—- happens and you have to learn to live with it.

@Cernow if its about the Guardian GS skills I though so too…. then someone in my guild pointed out that its because skills seem to be in order of cooldown duration from low to high.

Yeah the limited part seems to be about the range of colors and the price of the dye, not necessarily about unique dyes.

The mail is prob legit, as stated this is a security measure when someone tries to access you account from a different place than usual (say you play from home and then go a friends house to play you will get that email). Change you password not only for the game but for emails and other login sites as the scammer may have accessed your other stuff searching for your GW2 password.

Oh, I’m not disputing whether Anet is truthful about gem/gold exchange. As a customer I put my faith on it and continue to give them my support via gems (for the items I deem a good value… mostly bank tabs atm). It is simply a statement that, as with any other non regulated business, we have to take it at face value. So far the system has led to a “fair” exchange rate (read that as “expected” for a market controlled commodity, perhaps I should have used a better word).

About people caring more for their real money vs in game money, the missing variable here is time. How much time does it take me to make 1g vs how much time I need to make $1 if I can make $$$ faster or with less effort that its equivalent in gold them I would value gold more (ie. buying gold becomes attractive).

Again, I do not think gold sellers will go away (or botting for that matter) nor do I fault Anet for this but simply point out that the current system that dictates the exchange rate creates good opportunities for gold sellers to prosper and gives players an incentive to risk getting banned by buying black market gold since they get a much better rate from them, as In they get more gold for the same amount of $$$ than from the gem shop (OP 3rd to last paragraph really captures this).

As I view it the chain goes like this:

Gems are a source of income for Anet.
-Anet created a way of getting gems “free” via gold exchange free market.
-To be able to profit they need to control the gold market so that not everyone can afford to covert gold for gems.
- As gold is controlled it becomes scarce and thus valuable.
- Farmers recognize this “need” and start botting to sell gold.
- Some players starved for gold risk it and buy from them.

The further up the chain you look a solution for the better said solution will be.

Are players wrong fro buying sanctioned gold, yes they are. I do think they should support Anet instead of a gold farmer. I was trying to remain “clinical” about it, not bringing morality into play, since I wouldn’t buy gold with gems even from Anet.

Part of the problem, I think, is that many lock down on 1 weapon set (or 2 if you toon can swap) and call it a day. I have started to carry different weapons to switch them around for diff situation. Also combos are nice to pull off and give variety since they change depending on how you accomplish it.

I think the possibilities are there.

The purpose in GW is to teach you the basics for the game. Low level enemies don’t leave danger zones and don’t require you to dodge that much, they don´t remove conditions either. As you progress enemies become tougher, and start doing stuff like that and you as a player have to adapt. This is called a curve of learning and prepares you for the challenges that await you in the later parts of the game.

Edit→ just to add that not everyone needs this curve, but for some of us it has to be there.

The day before yesterday I was leveling my alts (specifically my guardian in the level 15-25 norn area and metrica province for my asura mesmer) I swear I got almost no blues (mats or gear) everything was junk and whites. I also did claw of jormag event with my 80 necro and got a green rabid medallion

Yesterday I continue doing the same and finishing the same low level areas and suddenly I’m flooded in bags with a lot of fine mats an 7 greens in total (toons are level 15 an 25 today) and My Necro did Claw of jormag again and got a rare + another rabid medallion.

Luck is like that even if the streak lasts for days in a year the god and the bad streaks even out.

If you play the Asura storyline where you invented the Infinity Ball, it’s strongly suggested that the Asura invented these Steam Creatures in an alternate timeline – specifically, your player-character invented them and used them to take over the world.

I like that theory, it was a really long thread about it and a strong argument was made for it, if you don’t like it its fine but acussing someone of trolling just because you don’t like their theory or you have a different opinion is not nice.

Give them the benefit of the doubt. It would be pretty cool to have Antibots bots (names are not my strong point) but to get something like that they would need to gather a lot of info/patterns/etc to be able to let a bot recognize another bot and (puts sunglasses on) terminate it. Now 3 weeks its a lot of time but I bet the team started working just a couple of days ago when anet announced that they were bringing extra people to deal with bots.

POI in Fort trinity -> Dev already said it was unintentional, they will fix it.

End loot -> Dev already said the they are bringing back GW1 style rewards (if you haven’t played GW1, read here http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Droknar%27s_Key )

I would recommend that in the meantime you roll a thief and start leveling it to 80 so by the time it gets obvious that they are not going to add race change then you already have your thief ready.

Whispers was my first story branch too, since I play an Asura I was able to accept my toon’s lack of reaction to usual asura pragmatism… (I had to forget about Vekk to accomplish that)

I would love new races not sure about new proffesions ( I have suggested specialization of current classes instead) but I think the game would benefit of a medium sized expansion that only adds 80+ areas to reclaim the Norn lands, meaning taking the battle to Jormag.

This will give a lot of longevity to the current game and give them time to properly flesh out Cantha/Elona…. or as many rumor the Largos UW area.

Yes, basically yes. I have said something like this before.

The fairness of the Gem/Gold exchange has been both a great feature and the doom of the game economy. Most MMO’s that have this type of feature are not fair in the amount of in game currency for their Gem’s equivalent currency. The rate is usually so high that many are discouraged of doing it and just buy the Gem equivalent with $$$.

But because in GW people can get gems via gold with a fair rate, Anet had to control the gold and make it so that the majority of players can not get a hold of more gold than what they need to play the game. This way they make it an incentive to people to buy gems with $$$ for Gem shop exclusive items.

This had a side effect… gold is scarce and is more valuable than gems to most players. As in any economy a very restricted, scarce good immediately creates a thriving black market (in this cases gold sellers).

There will always be gold sellers in MMO’s but the choice of having a relatively fair exchange rate of gold/gems (1) has exacerbated them to the point of ridicule as pointed out in your 3rd to last paragraph.

Note 1 : It has been disclosed by Anet that this exchange rate is driven by market, while we have no way of testing this to be true it has, for now, led to a fair rate.

If I recall correctly there are stuff similar to the Barrel tournament in Hoelbrak for each city. (believe asura will get the Polymock tournament… a pokemon style battle mini game).

Devs know that cities need stuff to encourage people to go there, sadly it seems that stuff was cut out (to someday hopefully be added) to rush the game out.

To add to the list of reasons, many players have taken a “laid back” approach in GW and are leveling several toons, this toons are creating an artificial scarcity in end game mats. By the time more people join the 70+ areas full time (I only play my 80 necro to kill Claw and then return to my alts) then more supply will enter the market and some prices will go down.

I think Anet could implement this feature… and to counter balance it Anet should put a storage fee after 48hrs if you haven’t pick up your stuff then they charge 10 silver daily.

Dwarves are not in exile… they are basically extinct (see ending of GW: EN). They either turned to stone (like you know who in the priory) or died in GW1 (namely the rogue faction).

Shipping goods via water is an order of magnitude cheaper than shipping them via land. Typically, it’s worth is 10 times cheaper than overland. Having access to the sea is one thing; actually using that to your advantage is another. That said, neither Asura nor the Krytans use the sea. I mean, their port city has its beaches stormed and its fortress taken in a single amphibious assault by a small Orrian fleet. Storytelling in Lion’s Arch makes no sense.

The city has portions of it made of huge ships. Inhabitants seem knowledgeable in seafaring. Some military commanders will speak of cannons on kittenging Ships of the line. And yet, there are no military ships in the harbour; the fortress is armed with catapults or trebuchets, not cannons; there are no patrols that keep the sea borders safe. For a coastal city with such knowledge of seafaring, not having a fleet stationed near is suicide. The Orrians basically just show up on their doorstep and storm the beaches. Their fleet approaches the city without being challenged or even detected!

With such flagrant incompetence, Lion’s Arch deserves to be destroyed and its ground salted.

P.S. Submarine properties of Orrian sail ships need to be addressed in a separate topic. I mean – wth?

It is stated in EoD that there are asuran vessel’s. Also LA is independent from Kryta.

Well since legendaries do not have better stats there is no need for special lore. The only legendary part comes from the design of the weapon itself. I would venture that the player that crafts one by doing all those larger than life tasks has earned enough experience to craft something out of the ordinary.

All dragons minions are corrupted, as stated on the novels, they are mindless creatures turned to the particular dragon’s corruption. They are alive in the sense that they move and can be killed… yet they are still mindless and their “flesh” is changed. Zhaitan’s minions have putrid flesh, Jormag’s frozen flesh, Klaky’s are crystallized. Only the dragon’s champions maintain their minds. The svanirs on the other hand are not minions, they are followers so they are not “turned”

In the novel GoA it is stated that the ghost are cursed, by their own king no less, to never rest, never go to the mists and wander for ever in rage. This is the reason that they attack anyone be it human or any other race. So this are not gasper… more like wraiths.

As an as Ascalonian (my Ele is from Ascalonian descent too… BTW did you know that Logan asks you if you are from Tyria, Cantha, Elona or Ascalonian descent? how is that for RP’ing options!) I believe it is my duty to stop the mad king’s curse and let my ancestors rest in the mists.

Also you can’t kill the ghosts, it is repeatedly stated that they merely dissolve and reform in a couple of minutes, which is why the Charr have been unable to drive them away, so you are not killing your ancestors… merely getting them out of the way.

Think of WvW as an elite PvE dungeon with very smart AI and every mob is a veteran or champion.

If you have a level 80 got to Frostgorge sound (where the Claw of Jormag battle happens) go west to where grawls have a small camp (there is a SP there) then watch the 3 asuran ranger bots there, after 5 min watching them you can spot other bots easier.

I have no real tests to show for but to add to the “MF only alter mobs” yesterday I did Claw of Jormag 2 times same toon .. 12% MF. 1st time I got a gold medal and only blues and greens. Second time I came by almost at the end and only got a bronze medal…. lo and behold a rare.

Sorry if not clear. Unique not meant as in how many people can get them, but as in how people can get them.

If it only comes from the chest then is unique to the chests. If you see some walking in the BLTC armor you know that they got it from keys/chests.

Armor in chest?

Yes, I wouldn’t mind, but you will have to settle for an unique armor that can only be obtained in the chests… a BLTC specialty armor/outfit if you will. (actually its not a bad idea to cash in on the gamblers Anet, get to it!)

Anet will never put dungeon armor in chests because they have repeatedly stated that they believe in progression meaning that a piece of armor is meant to show how far the toon has progressed to be able to get them.

There are skins ready to buy in the BLTC and you can be sure they will add more there in time.

They have plans to implement Guild vs Guild PvP.

I can’t recall the lore exactly (I do believe its very vague) but the war god Balthazar, created/gave access to the mists to all the realms so that they may engage in never ending battles for glory, etc, etc.

Fun fact: Asura refer to Balthazar as “the human god of fire and kicking but”

Yeah, best to try them a bit; level 15 should give you a good sense of the class (usually by the time you complete the starter area and a few of the PS).

Engi does seem to have a little more variety with all the kits and is very … different to play with.

Beware, as an 80 necro, I can tell you that you will have to dodge and move around a lot more than on your guardian. (I’m leveling my guardian now and I can definitively feel a difference) though Necros do have some nice tricks to compensate.

Op there is a 5% fee to post (think of it as advertisement costs) in the BLTC.

If you make a sale there is an additional 10% fee for the sale, think of it as the commission that the BLTC uses to maintain their operation. You know all those NPC’s and the TP system.
