If it is temporary, can you at least make it possible for players to acquire in other ways? That’d be an awesome compromise. The same goes for any significant non-cosmetic LW rewards, really.
You’ll be able to acquire the skill forever, it’s simply easier to earn (doesn’t cost skill points) during the release window.
Do you guys plan on something similar for the home instances nodes? Couhg New reward can upgrade quartz but I dont have quartz availabe Cough

1. How endgame content (ascended, legendary) is geared towards the hardcore players in detriment of the casual players.
2. WvW in the less populated/less PvP oriented servers. Simply not fun, I do like to jump in from time to time but when there is no hope , there is no point. Missing POIs have remained the same since 3 day head start… that,s a long time Chris, a really long time…
Only care about that as every flaw or problem can be fixed in time but its a real letdown that a fantasy game doesn’t let you have that “fantasy” feeling and instead becomes a chore that seems to become more impossible as the days go by.
I propose that a system is implemented so that every account (casual or hardcore) has a REALISTIC (read: tasks that take under 100 hours of play) to achieve “endgame stats/skins” for the first time. After the first (ascended, halloween skin, insert other stuff here) is crafted then its ok to set impossible goals to get a second one/set, you know like the ones that are set right now….
What would be achieved? Casuals have a realistic way to obtain ascended stuff, unique skins, etc for the first time (which for a casual is enough).¿ and the hardcore won’t really be affected as most do not stop on the first legendary, ascended set, etc. You can read in forums about many having 3 or 4 legendary weapons, etc.
I have 1000 hours of gameplay and the only ascended stuff I have is the amulet and an accessory because it has a realistic way of obtaining them. The only time I tried “farming” was CoF path 1, after 2000+ tokens I left the game for 7 months… Farming, not even once.

First of all I understand is not Anet’s fault if people take a break from the game and not experience content and I don’t feel like they “owe” anyone anything…. but I think it could garner lots of good will for returning players if say a “replay server” was added were past living story events/rewards can be experienced.
The reason for a different server is to not disrupt ongoing players experience. This way a person can choose to guest on this server and do the content without hindering other players experiences. and there wouldn’t be a need to do bug fixes/testing if old content does not play nice with new content (because in this server new content would not have been added yet).
It’s not lost on me that the Living world is a way to keep players coming back regularly and giving the option of “replay it” undermines this objective, but by making it delayed (say a 6 month difference) I expect the status quote to be maintained.
I’m sure that there are tons of issues I have not thought out but I leave that to the brilliant minds that gave us the game in the first place. The main idea is the same.
TLDR
-Suggest a separate server were Living story content can be replayed/experienced with a 6 month delay.
Do you mean Achivement Points? if so for now yes its status and a couple of titles only.
and prediction.
Darn it I knew I should have gone with that precognitive augmentation… stupid useless EMP shield…

Actually, I do not believe that all gems bought with $$$ enter the gem/gold exchange equation, only if the gems are directly used to exchange for gold they affect the rate.
My suspicion for a while now is that Anet started out with a set amount of gems and gold in their “central bank” and through buying and selling gems with/for gold they try to increment their “gold wealth” until a point that they can buy “new gems” from themselves (print more gems, while still keeping a gold reserve) effectively destroying some of the gold from the economy and “steering” the rate as desired/needed.
It’s a way of being true to the statement that gems are controlled by the market while leaving some room to make adjustments.
As you know the cash shop is way of Anet to get funding so the gem rate was never meant to be as low as month ago otherwise Anet will never be able to sell anything from the shop (this is why Anet si so zealous about people getting gold by exploits). The rate has to steep enough as to encourage people to just use $$$ while still being perceived as obtainable. Its a very fine line but so far I think they are doing a good job.
On the bright side I suspect that the harsher the rate the easier Anet will go towards gold sinks.
Just to add to this thread I’m experiencing very little dye drops. before the patch I accumulated 140 unind dyes (I’m saving them) after the patch I have only gotten 3 new dyes.
Borderlands 2. No cash shop since its a “normal” game (B2P) lots of mindless shooting and very quirky characters.
Or check out the humble thq bundle. pay what you want for 6 THQ games… even just 1 dollar. par of the proceed go to charity.
I made money for HoM by doing Nicks gift, royal gifts, and Zkeys only. Wish I had something similar here… not something to make a lot of easy money just something that was steady and enough to get an exotic set per week.
Edit
RNG does not equal steady. nicks gifts were a bit RNG but it wasn’t too bad.

Its called a bulk discount…. you buy in bulk you get a lower price per item.
Here is where OP failed. He/she decided arbitrarily to use the price for buying 5 keys (which has a lower price per key) instead of the price of a single key to make the math work in favor of his complain.
Just like He/she used the price for the 5 keys bundle, we can use the price for a single key to prove him/her wrong.
Read the whole thread.
Black Lion Merchant Express, 35 gems for 1.
Buy 5 for 50 gems, was 125 gems, 60% off.
That’s 1 for 10 gems, or 71.5% off if you go by individual price. Care to explain the difference?
No need to read the whole thread.
I’m answering OP his / her math while correct is misleading. If you want me to check your math I can, bu would need to log in later to check the TP as I only have the pricing info for the keys.

Why are you fixated on the chests? They drop as marketing tools to remind you that you can buy keys nothing more. Just like ads before a movie remind you that you can get popcorn. If you don’t like to have them just sell them on the tp as soon as you get them. If/when you get a key you can buy a chest back. (you’ll barely lose 1 copper)
I would be happy if they just gave me a free Rytlock
The other stuff is worthless anyway.
THIS
Edit: to clarify, do no think we should get a free upgrade or a free Rytlock just agreeing that the deluxe version is worthless except for the mini.

Dynamic events + Dailies is where the fastest leveling is at in my experience. Usually by doing a DE you end completing hearts so its even better.
Metrica Province has a lot of DE packed tightly.
we have no place else to go

I always thought it was “silly” to be a fan of a company, after all the ultimate goal of a business is making money (and this is not a bad a thing). But Anet’s manifesto made me a believer, sadly (thankfully?) it was a short live fandom. I’ll still play just like I still play other games that I own. I’m just not a “fan” anymore.
certainly not Norn… you will be left out without any elite skill but the banner and signet… plain boring.
I have to second this. While my Norn warrior is my main (and overall most fun) character, those elites are snooze-worthy. Especially compared to Charr.
I third(?) this. Specially since warrior already have a transform elite…
…
Actually as items that are bought with gems become “cheaper” the demand for said items will rise. 2 ways to get gems either with $$$ or gold. A fair amount of people will convert their Gold to gems to take advantage of the cheaper BLTC items thus increasing the exchange rate.
If anything convert gold to gems now before more people do so and the rate continues rising. (if you want stuff from the gem shop, that is)
If you got this far and are curious about the title of this post that’s how the Bait and Switch works when you advertise one thing and deliver something unexpected.
Very nice touch.
Impressive.

A new group called the consortium showed up, and changed Tyria forever. We now have all new holiday destination (southsun cove) and a new asura gate to random locations for adventure (fractals)
Maybe I missed it, but how did the Consortium change Tyria forever?
The cove was a tranquil place, the consortium stirred the karka… or did something to bother them can’t remember. Now the new zone is infested with karka. We killed the queen so a big scale invation was prevented.
The change is that the cove is now infested with karka.
As the topic says… will we get it?

I want to get achievements too, but railing against Anet because they added something for the PvPers (which I’ll never do and I honestly don’t mind their existence) seems a bit extreme. It’s like having all medium-armor characters and railing against Anet that you can’t get the heavy armor sets because you don’t want to play a heavy armor class.
This.
It’s an incredibly confusing situation, and there’s really no reason that it ever should have turned out this way.
LotRo, SW: Galaxies, Tabula Rasa, SWTOR… GW2
“All this has happened before, and all this will happen again.”
Sounds like you run into speed clear runs. I avoid those like the plague.
The pvp daily is very fast to get. The monthly… It could take days to find a necro to kill….
Was going to post something entirey different then I read this…. My necro and I will be staying the hell away of sPvP then.
Guess its necro hunting season xD
“This will not end well”
-darn you Anet for making me quote Thrahearne :shakes fist to the sky:
Sadly the only thing we can do is making our voices heard. The biggest mistake we had was not policing the forums to ut a coutner weight to all the people asking for a gear treadmill. obviously we shouldn’t have to… but now we know we must.
The thing is OP sometimes one can get confused on what one wants. Right now many players feel that the only way to keep a game alive is a gear treadmill. It’s what they know and thus it’s what they ask for. How long did it take for people to accept that the earth is round and not flat? How long did it take for people to accept that earth is not the center of the universe?
The divide here is that many of us have already tried a system without a meaningless treadmill and we have come to realize what a great system it is. New content, new challenges can be added without higher stats gear… as players become more proficient with their game avatars so does the challenges, eventually n GW1 we faced mobs 10+ lvls higher than the game cap and we still prevailed.
We had progression through weapons (new skills) which got everyone excited about new combos, new strategies and new cross profession synergies. It was not a race to get a bigger sword to kill a bigger a mob, it was race to figure out the mechanics of the new mobs and to figure the best/craziest way to beat the new content.
Our sense of accomplishment did not come from getting a bigger sword; it came from prevailing despite having the same resources that we had when we beat the game a year ago.
Of all the threads in the forums, this is the one I wish the Devs read. Nothing like a good parody to show the absurdity of the infusion concept.
Selo.1250
And when you whack that monster, you see a higher number, yes the monster has more health, but you have become stronger.
And this illusion is good? you are killing a +5 mob with your +5 sword in the same time that it would have taken you to kill a regular mob with a regular sword.
Instead of more challenging content to test you skill, the knowledge of your profession, the versatility of your build, your group coordination, etc instead of needing to change your “status quo” to adapt to new mobs or mechanics you’d rather have a bigger sword to kill a bigger mob?
No change in strategy? no overcoming a problem? no figuring out how beat new zones just… bigger mob → get bigger sword.
I fail to see how seeing bigger numbers equals to progression.
Missed something OP. The reason why its compared to a treadmill is that even though you have “better gear” since all the mobs have better stats you essentially did not move forward.
A gear treadmill goes in hand with power creep. You get a +5 power boost and mobs get a +5 defense boost. Your progression is all an illusion. You are no more powerful than what you were before the new gear.
I have another one!
I think we don’t have enough progression in mining, we always use the same tools for the same nodes… its so stale…. buuuut Anet could add infused mining picks!.
Lets say some nodes have a special condition called “heavy metal poisoning” so if you mine it with regular tools you get sick over time and if not cured you die. So if you want to mine this “special nodes” you need to infuse your mining pick with “chelation” in order to counter it.
I feel like we need clear progression on mining as I have no motivation to do them without it.
Please limit feedback to constructive only.

I see many posts arguing that people that are wary of a new tier of gear are against new content.
New content /= higher stats gear.
New content can be done with the same top gear (new skins as rewards) simply by making the mobs harder. Even if your stats haven’t improved, your skill has improved, the knowledge of your class, your build, etc. Anet could include new content with new mobs mechanics (say new mobs need to have vulnerability or poison on in order to be able to receive damage) and many other options that do not include “mobs have higher stats, get higher stats armor/weapon to beat them”
There is no need to start a power creep to add new content, guess from which company I learned that?

Yeah, I’m disappointed, just watching the manifesto again is heartbreaking… maybe some of the Dev’s are watching it too and also rage in frustration?
As for feedback… there is still time to apply a new mechanic that will mitigate the “feeling of wasted effort” that we are all having. Making our current gear upgrade (get mats from the new dungeon put them in the forge = Ascended armor) will help ease the transition as all the gold we spend “doesn’t get wasted” and after that forgetting about new tiers and simply manage upgrades through infusions (different dungeons require different infusions).
In the meantime I will stay cautiously optimistic, I’m abandoning my alts since I don’t know if I can keep up 1 toon “up to date”, maintaining all 8 would be impossible for me (regretting buying the extra toon slots..).
Also I must stop gem purchases for now, not making a “stand” or anything like that simply, as your resident economist adviser can tell you, in times of uncertainty rational people stop spending money, at least until they feel its safe to spend again.
Right now I don’t feel safe.
I think is going to be the equivalent of the “East India trading company” a less… scrupulous… branch that gets everyone in trouble.
My guess? New profession will be “water themed”.
My take/guesses?
The progression will be the infusions. different infusions for different situations. We will all have to get the ascendant armor (maybe they require an exotic to “craft” so as to not bypass that tier and your effort is not wasted) but they wont be to hard to get (maybe on par with current exotics).
Then the infusion grind is available for the tread millers maybe something like “ice infusion” to reduce incoming damage from ice based damage, etc not unlike drinking a potion of Svanir slaying (which are dirt cheap) except this time the protection is “in you gear” which makes it “more powerful” but only in specific situations.
Wait. I know raging is good as it requires less coffee intake over the course of the day but we don’t know the exact details yet. Whilst I am not exactly excited about a possible treadmill finding its way in either I am willing to wait for more details.
This. Hold back the keejerk respons and be patient… when we know more details, THEN we can get our pitchfork and torches and go on a complete rampage…
Yeah. I’m also worried about a possible gear treadmill but I already made the mistake in the halloween patch to think that Anet would hide all skins behind paid BLTC chest and was wrong. I’m going to wait until all is said and done to judge.
All karma rewards are meant for the toon that acquires it, Devs have gone on record on this issue.
So I guess my lemons should be soulbound then?
Touche. Should have been more explicit. The armor “trick” that you refer to is unintended, Karma armor is meant for the toon that acquires it.
As to the lemons there is a reason you can’t sell them or even give them away for free.
Edit
Just thought up a reason why Anet allows the purchase of different type of karma armor. I’m not familiar with the Mystic forge recipes, but perhaps 4 “x” type of armor could result in a piece of armor of that type?
Say my Necro has tons of karma and I want a helm for my Warrior maybe I can Throw 4 Karma bought heavy helms and get a random Heavy helm (non soulbound) back?
(edited by Cancer.9065)
Agree any soulbound item that can not be worn by the toon should not be available for purchase.
What if I want to buy an armor piece my character can’t use? I’ve been told it’s possible to pull off some cross-character transmuting tricks with soulbound items.
What if doing that is unintended and as such its consider an exploit?
All karma rewards are meant for the toon that acquires it, Devs have gone on record on this issue.
could it be related to mitigating lag?
OP as yourself this
If precursors are worth 300g and you have one would you still sell it for 300g knowing that you can get 60g a month?
The current price is set a 300g becasue the sellers know that few people have that kind of gold as soon as the sellers know that players can have 60g a month precursors will sky rocket to adjust the influx of gold.
Agree any soulbound item that can not be worn by the toon should not be available for purchase.

Enjoy.
I think this thread has many knee jerk reactions based on other posters suggestions (unique elites skills – unique sigils – better stats, etc) which are not the intention of the OP and which of course should not be taken into consideration as gear grind is not part of the GW2 philosophy.
The only advantage from being able to switch the stats with other similar exotics weapons stats combinations (off combat… maybe even in town only to make it more contained) is not to carry more gear / buying less low priced exotics).
Let’s face it if one is able to afford a Legendary…. buying 20 slot bags + other common exotics for their stats its not going to be out of their reach, this change will only be a “quality of life” type of deal, not unlike buying revive orbs / repair canisters.
Everyone can revive and repair armor but people that can afford it can do so instantly in the field, while the rest of use have to go the WP/Npc to do it.
