Hammer. With a phantasm that does earthshaker every 10ish seconds
There are quite a few builds that work with p/d. I find it more flexible then most.
I myself now use 20/0/30/20/0 though I have used 10/0/30/0/30 and even 20/0/10/10/30. (this gives 3+k armor 20k+ health)
The poison on steal is a good skill out of DA. Dire is my preferred armor of choice and it on my trinkets as well. If I want some more heal or power I switch out a weapon set rather then the armor as it a lot easier to carry around extra weapons.
For the added OOMPH one gets from power I stack might rather then go carrion.
Assassins retreat is my speed rather then using an armor set specced for it or I will sometimes put in signet of shadows for map movement.
Just keep in mind for a condition spec you can toy with all sets of trait choices and find the one you most like. I like my dodges as example over using cnd and stealth and rely on shadow arts for might stacks and the regen more then anything.
As example a Withdraw/RFI/ and signet of agility is one of my favorite choices on the toolbar as I get all manner of dodges on demand.
Once you get your armor set try different combos of traits and find the one that works for you the best. Most any makes a good roamer in wvw and I find too many people who recommend builds do not consider the fact that every player is different when it comes to taste or even the ability to do the twitch at the right time.
As example I can never cloak and dagger on demand as some can so avoid that.
I’m trying to figure out what you would put in 20/0/10/10/30. Would this be a power build or a condition / venom build? I’m also guessing you run Shadow’s Embrace, Assassin’s Retreat (since you talk about it above), Thrill, Bountiful, and Sleight. Not sure about what would go into DA though, since if I were to play a power build, I’d run Mug / Dagger Mastery, but if I were to run venoms I’d probably put Quick Venoms and Venomous Strength. o.O?
Full dire or carrion. Carrion is a lot squishier bu you do more dmg. Dire is pretty much invincible. Traits go 10/0/30/0/30. Grab perplexity runes with sleight of hand, and scorpion wire
You can also use caltrops instead of scorpion wire or shadow refuge. I just prefer it the way it is
Is P/D the only occasion where you would go 30 into SA? I thought that was taboo. :\
EDIT -
Oh wait, it was 30 points into Acrobatics. I’m stupid, ignore that last part.
Shadow arts is probably the most popular line, At least for WvW. Whoever told you its taboo needs a kick to the face
Anything with offhand dagger, and D/P will put at least some into SA (unless making a max DPS build). The only weapon you wouldn’t is with S/P
The one in my sig is great for a supporty role in zergs.
Yeah, because being effective in PVE isn’t fun
You can get up to 7g an hour running it. But you have to sell everything
except maybe strong heals.
Lol.
Well what you haven’t done is transferred :/
The problem is the thief just doesn’t feel like the insane assassin class anymore, to me it feels like it’s become a bruiser that lacks both damage and the ability to stay alive long enough and you have to stay engaged in a battle for longer than you should. I like the idea of a thief that either ends you fast or dies trying.
Then youre using the wrong build.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/Any-good-EOTM-ganking-builds
Pop signets. Cast CnD from 1500 range and use steal right as it ends casting. One shot with backstab. If theyre still alive theyll be under 25% so just spam HS.
For zergs your better off with full PTV, 10/0/30/30/0 full shouts with soldier runes. Hammer+Sw/Wh for swap
New sig.
The standard condi builds are 30/10/0/20/10 with nades/EG/TK/bombs/rocketboots or 20/10/0/30/10 with AR, perplexity, and bombs/TK
Mesmer is OP. Mesmer can go 1vs3 and win easy. Not any other class can do that, maybe for except Engineer. Still OP as kitten.
1 What class do you play?
2 If every mesmer can go 1v3 “easy” then why am I not seeing more “nerf Mesmer” threads? Why am I not seeing more 1v3 easy “Videos”?
3Engineers 1v3? No…no no no. Maybe, MAYBE if their opponents are bad AND they happen to have played for quite some time. Maybe…
4 Play a mesmer and see how OP they are for yourself…..
Both of you are so wrong… 1vX only happens if the X is bad. 1player against multiple players of the same skill level CANNOT win. It defies simple logic.
Because of that any profession can easily 1vX. Some professions have it easier than others, either through target drops, mobility, or active defense. Warrior, mesmer, engi, and thief are the best at this, but that doesn’t mean others still can’t.
This is directed at you shadow, but have you ever played an engineer? No? Theyre top tier in pvp, and one of the most popular roaming professions. Their bomb/TK/rocketboots condi build is extremely effective at 1vX and gets better the more you use it. Dont talk about things you have no clue about.
Dire. The only benefit you get from rabid is a 3 sec bleed. Thats not worth 6k health. Not to mention with dire you get 30% crit chance, 40% with a sword, and 60% with fury.
Here is a sample of what you should aim for
3.4k armor, 25k health, 30% crit chance, and 2k condi dmg is such a beast. You can easily get bleed ticks of 3k+, and burn, and torment for 1k+
Don’t use missile Deflection in a Condition build. Cuz when you block a projectile in melee range with reposte it wont count as a block it counts as a reflect and thus it wont trigger the bleed on block which is the whole point of that skill besides the block part.
Id always rather have a 2 sec block than a measly 3x bleed
Yes sword is all melee. There is no ranged weapon in the game that does more DPS than a melee one. Risk vs reward would be completely backwards. Spotter is a major trait in marksmanship that gives a perma +150 precision to you and your allies.
No really, how does this thread still exist? Are the mods on vacation? Or is there some kind of “anti-mod” Jedi mind trick?
Well for PVE….
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Do-engineers-do-good-damage
And for pvp they are meta.
Do you think it could work though?
Sure it could work. Just theres no real reason to play a suboptimal build :/
eng and mes seem like good choices so far….lots of utility and options depending on what you are fighting….very cool
Around what level, can you have a really good idea what your profession is going to be like playstyle wise? If I can know within a couple hours, I can try them all out and have a better idea what I am getting myself into.
At LEAST level 30. But leveling in this game is not hard at all. 1 level = 1 hour from 15-80, with 1-15 being a bit faster. So you can have a max leveled character in less than 80 hours.
Pvp in this game automatically levels you to 80, and everyone has the same choice for gear, weapons, stats, traits, utility skills, everything. This is a pretty good way to get a feel for how a profession plays, tho i wouldnt advise doing this right away until you get a good understanding of basic game mechanics or youll get roflstomped by other players
So, it means that ranger is a lose-lose situation? either you go for straightforward dps with a longbow and get a so-so dps, or else you go for condition build with a shortbow and get screwed if there’s another condition applier in the party?
No, you go Sw/Wh with spotter and frost spirit, get top tier DPS, and give good support to your party
Also copy/pasted from another thread, but a few basics of the game before you start. This applies to all classes in all situations
The combat in this game is much more action-oriented- you can avoid attacks by strafing and dodging as you fight, and using skills to counter enemy attacks. It’s more important to avoid attacks than to heal them.
There is no healer/tank/DPS trinity. Everyone is responsible for their own survival, for DPSing the enemy, for coordinating support and control to make fights more manageable.
Your success in this game depends largely on your skill as a player, rather than your gear.
I highly recommend giving this a read:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/GW2-Combat-system-101-Guide/first
In addition, GW2 is highly unlike WoW in many other respects. The game’s meant to be more of a journey- you take your time and enjoy the process of leveling, explore to your heart’s content, and when you hit 80, there aren’t tiers of raids and gear to chase one after the other. You pretty much find what you enjoy doing and do it.
My and other players’ advice- don’t treat this game like WoW. Forget everything you know about MMOs and enjoy the journey.
I 3rd engi. Great in PVE, awesome in pvp. Lots of skills available at one time and lots of different combos you can do.
Mesmer would probably be my second reccomendation. Lots of teleports requiring you to be mobile and active while playing
I didn’t consider that the boons for the heal would be elongated, so thanks.
Also, if I swap shield with pistol, what should I replace “reinforced shield” with.
By the way thanks for the help.
Cloaking device, the one with protection are all good choices. Id personally drop 10 from inventions into firearms for hair trigger tho

Thanks
I’m mainly thinking of WvW roaming, since conditions aren’t very good for PvE
What is the standard P/D build and equipment for roaming?
Full dire or carrion. Carrion is a lot squishier bu you do more dmg. Dire is pretty much invincible. Traits go 10/0/30/0/30. Grab perplexity runes with sleight of hand, and scorpion wire
You can also use caltrops instead of scorpion wire or shadow refuge. I just prefer it the way it is
The problem here is no Swiftness, no Movement Speed increase and No way to escape a fight unless you use Shadow Refuge.
The general rule is to swap SoS for w/e when not in combat
Guard, engi, or mes give the most support. Thieves also are pretty good support tho most people dont think so. With the meta 25/30/0/0/15 Sw/P build you can have perma blind, and perma weakness from autoattack. You can also safely res anyone who goes down quickly via shadow refuge. And you’re awesome for skipping stuff
You can keybind something to go downwards as well. I’m not in game or I’d find it directly for you in Options. But as Carpboy says (and who would know better about swimming matters?) if you mouse-move and steer it’s no issue at all. Hold both buttons down and look downward.
Huehuehuehuehuehue. Funny guy
Copy/pasted from the thread right below yours

Your build has WAY to much precision that you get absolutely no benefit from, other than a 33% chance to trigger a 3 sec bleed
It’s in Metrica Province. I’m supposed to go to the lake by Jeztar Falls and help Blopp stop the Inquest from using poison by destroying ampules, gathering herbal materials and so on. It seems as if I’m only able to do these things by swimming down underwater, but I can’t seem to do that. My character is a level 4 Asura Engineer.
Aim your camera down and use your mouse
Do condition pistol dagger thieves rely more on evasion or stealth? This is the way I’m thinking of building my thief initially at 80, but am curious of the play style.
WAY more on stealth. You can build them 10/0/30/30/0 to have a little more evasion. But you miss bountiful theft so theyre about the same. CnD into sneak attack is your bread and butter for P/D. The #3 is also an awesome skill and can be used a lot like a dodge to avoid telegraphed attacks. Warriors are the easiest thing to kill on a P/D because they can literally NEVER hit you between all the blinds, stealthed, evades, and teleports. Most thieves also dont have 3k armor and 17k health, so if they do happen to hit you itll be pretty weak
Full regen is a complete waste
Thanks

How is this thread still going?
Which do you recomend
If suggest offhand pistol. Shield without perplexity is meh.
8k bomb auto build. Enjoy

Lyssa runes #4. Very RNG, and he’d have been better off not activating it
Thanks for lots of constructive feedback. So I guess overall my crit chance and damage are simply too low. I am using Pvt gear with melandru rune and zerker trinkets and weapons so I really don’t know what I can do to boost my crit chance and damage further without sacrficing my toughness and power? Please help me with the proper gear setup if you don’t mind . But once again thanks so much guys
With a 0/0/30/10/30 build use zerker weapons and trinkets, cavalier armor. For food use truffe steak and maintenance oils. Lyssa runes. Youll end up with 2.1k armor, 45% crit chance, 3k armor, and 100% crit dmg.
For your 20/0/30/20 Bow/GS build use the same gear. Youll end up with 10% less crit dmg but 200 more power
just sharing mine
4 signet warrior with GS and full CoF armor…how original
Berserker is the prefix for any armor with the stats of Power, precision, critical damage
You need burning through either offhand pistol, bombs, incendiary powder, or a combination
Well can you link a build just so i can have a general idea on how to spec my points and see what insignias i should start using. Plus i would also have an idea of what i would look like at level 80. If you could throw a build together for me or just show me one i would really appreciate it, thanks.
25/30/0/0/15 full zerker scholar runes. 25/30/0/15/0 for extra survivability. Use signet of malice and life steal food.
AAAASSSSUUUURRAAAAAAAAA!
Brb making second warrior
Lol. I dont even…
Man, another noob ele complaining about thieves……
If you’re so bad you can’t even pick your traits right it’s not a thief problem..
Arcane abatement is useless, “fall” doesn’t really help if you “fall dead”. Take cantrip mastery instead, it really fits the build and you’ll see those thiefs “fall dead”: they have a lot of knockdowns from permastealth and reducing cooldown on your cantrips will make the difference, especially with your build.
Also, swap the crest of the saman for more magis, the extra healing power will make the difference against those stupid thieves.
LMFAO! OP knows how to pull a good troll
If you don’t have time and dont know how then dont lol. Leave it to people like Nike who DO have the time and DO know how
Couple of changes after reflection:
1. E-Gun Elixir F should provide stability not swiftness to any allies it hits.
Your hit by glue and go faster? Strange.2. Glue should provide stability to anyone in it (friend or foe)
a. You could use it for allies to get stability.
b. This would keep it from buffing decap engineers
c. You still would have enemy with a movement debuff.
d. Now all glue can be played offensively or defensively.
Glue on elixir F would be to OP. its to short a CD for a bouncing stability

He got you good
This is obviously a troll thread or you are incredibly new to PvP.
- Classes are different playstyles.
- Build matters.
- Player’s ability in PvP matters.
- Environment matters.
You can kill an NPC fast as a Zerk Ele.. well done.
PvP is completely different.Yes, I’ll admit Thieves do have extremely high burst, and they are probably the best 1v1 class in-game. Ele’s on the other hand have the best AoE burst in-game.
I don’t see any Thieves going to Ele forum and complaining they died in a blob fight because an Ele was hitting them 4k’s with Fire Storm in a huge radius?Ele can give group support and buffs.
Ele is the only class that can destroy siege far back within walls.
Ele has superior AoE.Thief has none to little of these, I don’t see many (if any at all) threads in your sub-section by Thieves complaining?
Every class/build fits into their own slot of what it’s intended to do. Thieves are almost only for DPS as they provide little Support. Ele can do all, and at that.. within the 1 build.
I crafted a Thief to 80 2 weeks ago and as much as I enjoy it at the moment, I’m slowly getting bored of it due to being tunneled into playing full DPS.
I have a 66 Ele I occasionally work on by playing SPvP for +1 level tomes. I can’t say I’ve played much of my Ele (more than my Thief though) but I will say that it’s far more enjoyable for sure.
LOL
