What worries me is the fact that there were people in /m talking about how much fun they are having doing it and that they don’t even care about getting no rewards. Are people really so easily entertained? This is the epitome of terrible gameplay.

I honestly heard nothing but the opposite, in fact I often saw nothing more then “this better be worth it” type of comments.

Not very happy as at the moment it’s pointless to bring a less than 80 character into the zerg.

I will, simply because aside from maybe condition necros, Reaper is a straight up upgrade and there’s zero reason for a power necro not to use it.

Chronomancer looks like it will be in the same boat, as is Herald.

However my Ele will never touch tempest, it just brings nothing to the table.

Dude just likes to spit in other peoples lemonade is all and there are indeed people like that in this world and in Gw2. Raid system benefits those people who like to raid and does absolutely nothing to those who dislike raiding as it’s not needed for anything since this game has multiple methods to unlock items as is and that won’t change for raids.

So because people simply don’t like raids full well knowing they can simply just ignore them they go about spitting in everyone elses glass of lemonade.

Wildstar all over again. SWTOR all over again. Rift all over again. TSW all over again.

Listing games that started with a Sub doesn’t actually prove your point at all. Wildstar, SWTOR, and Rift didn’t provide enough content to deserved there subs and people left and each one eventually had to go free to play. Wildstar is dropping its sub in the fall which is also owned by NCsoft as well which probably played into Gw2 going F2p. Games like WoW/FF14 prove without a doubt that casual/elitePve/elitePvp/Rpcrowd can all get along in an MMO just fine.

This game never started with a sub and with such low expectations adding a feature isn’t going to spell the end for this game at all people as I stated before just love to hate/troll on people when their happy and the people who want raids are happy right now If you don’t like raids then don’t do them. Gear in this game is all baseline to rarity anyway.

They all boasted raiding as retention mechanism. Just as ANet is doing now.

Anyway, result of this announcement is 2 refund request for HOT.

WoW lost 5 mil subs in 6 months.

FFXIV prooves that if you spend double the money on teh game because you epically screwed first release youll earn some goodwill. And never make your money back. They needed cash shop along sub just to be able to open euro servers.

Anyway you dont have to worry about me asking the right questions much more.

You know what they say, vote with your wallet, words are cheap.

See, funny thing you mention the cash shop in ff14.

The cash shop has jack kitten, like seriously, jack kitten. There’s a few barely noticed accessories, some outfits that were available years ago for a limit time and only like three of then. Four dyes that look bad on most gear…..and a mount which I’ve seen four times ingame in 8 months. Oh and a few minions that again no one really uses.

FF14’s profit is coming from subs, the cash shop is just a nice little extra thing for them.

I swear topics like these are just as bad as the people in FF14 who kittened about there being two versions of the latest raid, an easier story mode and the actual raid mode, because they personally had no interest in the story mode.

Player retention probably, harder content that takes longer to get through, keep pushing out said content over the space of months so people don’t walk away. Like bringing the raid out 2 weeks later than the actual expansion, no one will blow through it Day 1.

So why are all games that used to bet on raids to retain players moving away form them?

Or as TSW and AoC, almost closing shop and desperately trying to sell whatever little of developer studio is left?

Wldstar?

SWTOR?

LOTRO?

Even WoW? THE raiding game?

Wild Star: Full over over-tuned fights, terrible optimization at launch, warplots turned out to not be what everyone was hoping etc etc. Wild Star suffered from a lot of issues, raiding itself wasn’t the issue. It was the 100% focus on raiding combined with every other issue that killed it. GW2 clearly does not have a 100% focus on raiding so your argument fails here.

SWTOR: Had a ton of money thrown at it for voice acting, cut scenes etc. It was super expensive and they expected the Star Wars brand to rake in the cash. Basically nothing that actually would keep the game afloat. While nice, SWTOR is an example of mismanaged resources during development.

AoC: No experience with is, so can’t say.

TSW: Very niche title, extremely boring combat (terrible animations for example). Here, despite the extremely rich story and world, the actual gameplay is what made it suffer.

LoTR: No experience with this beyond about 10 minutes, stopped playing because tbh I thought it was ugly as sin. So can’t comment on this one.

WoW: Suffering from old age, it was and still is the top dog in the MMO world. If you deny that, then there is really no point in talking about what makes an MMO fail and succeed with you. There’s a reason calling something a “WoW Killer” is never done anymore, people finally understand the only thing that can kill WoW is time itself.

Now, a game you strangely did not mention. Final Fantasy 14. This game has content for all levels of player. Casual, hard core and the people in between and you know what? It’s working, Final Fantasy 14 is growing more and more. It will never be as strong as WoW once was, but it is growing. This content approach is what Anet appears to be trying and that’s the best possible scenario for all styles of play.

Only down side sadly is it can only be used every 30 minutes.

Still sounds wonderful! That 30 minutes would be enough, i dont need it more than that! I RP and one use a day would work for me!

Oh totally it’s super helpful. But yeah GW2 could totally do what final fantasy 14 does just without the mount.

The basis is the couple do some quests together that involve a lot of walking, then obtain the ring and wedding outfits. Then they schedule a time, give out invites to people they want to show up, then pick the ceremony details (music, color scheme of decorations, cut scenes that play etc etc). Then on that date it goes down, couple gets their mount and the guests get their own minion (basically a mini)

It’s something I think would make RPers and non-RPers alike happy.

They would however have to do something different for certain races. The Charr in particular. They dont do weddings(they have mates) so far as i know, Same with the Asura..i could see the Sylvari doing it(Mainly because of how they interact with other cultures) And the Norn do have weddings.

They could maybe work it in as something entirely new, like some new tradition not linked to any one race. It require some good writing of course to make it gel, but it could work.

No one needs it, but then no one needs trans stones either. It’s just that extra fluff to make some players happy while not really changing anything for other players and it can make Anet extra money depending on how they do it if they did.

I recall the final fantasy mmo has weddings. That’s an option, if that’s your thing.

They do, and it’s not gender restricted. You also get a special mount for both players, wedding outfits, and a ring that teleports you to your partner.

Personally I never understood why the GW2 community is so against in-game marriage.

The Ring would be amazing! Forget the mount, give us a title we can wear instead. But that ring would be amazing!

At least for ff14, it really is extremely helpful in certain areas. For example there are these called hunts that spawns varied “ranked” boss monsters, sometimes you miss them because of loading times + travel time as the mobs spawn randomly in set windows and not everyone is willing to wait long. Think world bosses but less predictable.

If you’re partner is there already however, you can click the ring and go directly to them, skipping travel time and probably loading quicker as most people would be porting to the nearest outpost.

Also, the ring can be used for glamour purposes (accessories show up on your character unless hidden by armor).

Only down side sadly is it can only be used every 30 minutes.

Human vs Norn armies: who would win?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Celestina.2894

Celestina.2894

Norn, individually, are no more physically powerful than humans. They lack discipline, organization, and an army.

Essentially it would be a fight between a human army and individual Norn. No contest, humans win.

Actually norn are, lore-wise, physically superior to humans in every possible way. They’re just ingame not that way for balance purposes. In fact they’ve actually even been shrunk since GW1 in order to make them playable.

The only playable race that could prove a physical match for a norn would be a charr.

Because it takes, work and money to do that and this is a free game. And yea I am sure a few people would pick more girly looking hair on a male there are already a loot of long hair options and the number of players that would take the already existing long hair options to a whole new level of adding bows and stuff like that is small. So its a waste of time for anet to do that plus some of the girl styles would look ridiculous on a male character.

In it’s current state it’s one of the stronger classes in sPvP. Terrormancer and MM are absurdly strong builds, and DS burst is also incredibly strong in WvW.

They’re lackluster in PvE, but a class focused on control and conditions would be expected to be due to the way dungeons and world bosses are designed. We’ll also see what happens with the removal of the condi cap and poison being stackable. If anything, I’d expect to see condi sinister builds as providing the highest DPS by a far margin if the stack cap is removed.

ROFL are you kidden me they are NOT lackluster in PVE I do amazing dps and don’t have no issues doing it.

’I know few people who don’t post on forums but like me, are stuck with their characters because they don’t want to play a broken story.

Essentially if they don’t fix it ( and im inclined to think they wont despite the fact it just needs a revert and no one has EVER explained why chapters have been chopped about) they will FORCE players to cave in and do the story because some Masteries will be sitting behind Personal Story Completion…

Oh this is absolutely what they are gonna do, sorry but it’s been three years and the Zhaitan fight hasn’t even been touched.

I have zero faith in anything pre-HoT being fixed soon if ever. Hell, every time I was working on a characters map completion I always found the Iron Marches heart with the loggers to be a utter pain because it is ALWAYS broken.

But hell, why fix broken stuff when they can just break what’s not broken? After all it is far less time consuming to break something then it is to build something.

“Raid type content” would seem like a “major feature”. But they didn’t announce anything of the sort, but I am assuming any big world bosses that come out would be considered raid type content. If those occur, then I’ll be very happy.

To be fair they did mention something to the effect of challenging group content without going into much detail about what form it would take.

Sadly, that’s way to vague for the majority of us concerned about this type of content. Realistically, they could just be referring to another Mary/Teq type of battle. Which while better then nothing, isn’t exactly what some of us want.

ESO is going to be B2P in March… they have dungeons….. much better dungeons than GW2. They also have trinity but with active combat like GW2.

I think this game might appeal to us – dungeoneers more.

Didnt that game went B2P because it failed because of the gameplay? Dont know if thats convincing…

Their official stance is it’s due to the console release and they want to keep it simple……..which I don’t think anyone actually believes. That being said, personally for dungeon content I’d suggest FF14 if you are ok with the sub fee and the holy trinity.

Do you really think they would talk about performance or engine changes on stage at an event like the one this morning. The engine is old though, depending on how modular it is changing the underlying rendering technology might be possible, or it might not.

There is also no way they would go out of their way to talk about problems in their game or fixes to such problems at a huge PR event. Because it is not ideal material for drawing in new players or enticing returning players.

Actually saying “Hey this will be fixed/improve along with all this stuff!” is a great PR move when people are already hyped and is exactly what some vets might want and need to hear first before returning.

There is no way that they would sell the expansion through the gem shop. Anet took the traditional route and is selling this in stores and digital downloads.

Sure you can buy the deluxe edition for 2000 gems , but that doesn’t really give you anything other than a few boosters , 1 mini, and something else I don’t remember.

It’s totally possible actually. Keep in mind, people will likely have to download the new content anyways even if they don’t own the expansion just to make it simple. Whenever you purchase something from the gem shop, it’s already downloaded by your client, the purchase simply acts a flag that says “Hey this account should now have access to this stuff”.

That being said, it would be a terrible idea if they make it available for gems as it would wreak havoc on the gold —-> gem conversion rates.

It’s not entirely uncommon for an expansion to be more demanding then the base game, but it’s never dramatically more demanding except in very specific cases.

For example, the complete rebuild of FF14 into what may as well be an entirely different game. Though that was more of a “Guys, we’re sorry, we kittened up so we’re gonna do this, this, this etc etc for you.”

But basically if you can run GW2 as it is now, you should have nothing to worry about.
