Finally our condition removers (null field mesmers, shout warriors) go up there. We killed them, but it took a ridiculous amount of time for that to happen. Way too much influence for 3 people to have.
Add in engineers with Super Elixir and have everyone projectile finish (or whirl) thru it. Engineer with Kit Refinement on Elixir Gun and a Ranger shooting thru the field with Quickness, even better.
Your suggestion is to have the entire zerg be balled up into the size of a super elixir? Because I don’t see how they’re going to cure their immobilized if they aren’t already in that ball. And if they do, it’ll just be applied again in a second or two.
No, obviously not because you don’t need a zerg to be balled up to benefit from a projectile finisher. The condition removal occurs on anyone who is nearby the target of the projectile, or rather in the line of fire.
(edited by Chaba.5410)
I think the main problem with zerg www for engineer is that nobody yet tried to gather a group of 15-20 proper mix of grenadiers and bombers instead of warrior train. Playing a class for half a year i still can’t see how that damage+control could be mitigated.
NERF maybe has tried something like this, but to be honest we don’t demand that people run with certain builds. The Supply Crate drop matches a warrior’s F1 hammer skill with the 2 seconds of stun…

According to interviews, Veil is going to be removed with the upcoming patch. That skill is only going to have two outcomes of RNG.
This is Guild Wars, not Server Wars. Guilds are not servers. Stop assuming that everyone is going to run a guild only on a single server.
Engineers should be able to carry double supply and have double build speed, because you know, they’re engineers.
You seen this, right? http://orrator.com/post/39925374985/engineer-swears-he-remembers-how-to-build-seige
:)
^^^ Yes.
I’m really not going to bother keeping track of how many seconds it’s been since a turret last fired. I’ve got too much else going on during a battle.
“Did he fire six shots or only five?” Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Do I feel lucky?” Well, do ya, punk?
That’s what guild chat is for.
If you are asking about joining, NERF is cross-server. FA is just the largest chapter. We have a recruiting thread somewhere around here….
More thoughts…
How to think objectively, or rather rationally about this. First let’s figure out what the goal is. As far as I know, the goal is class balance. What does this mean and how is it achieved? It sounds like there should be a wide variety of viable builds available to all classes. What does it mean to be viable?
Once we understand or agree on what those things mean we’ll have a foundation for discussing tweaks to skills that achieve the goal of class balance.
Thinking more about turrets being changed into a bundle skill. How would it work if all minion-type skills were changed into bundle skills? What would happen if a necro’s minions were a bundle? Would class balance be maintained if a necro could lay down a bunch of wells and have all their minions out? I don’t think it is a mistake that it takes an elite skill to have all turrets out.
A lot of this sounds good, although I question your suggestion about Supply Crate. It provides AoE cc, damage, and support. I don’t see how stripping it down to only AoE support would be better.
Yes, they are a class mechanic. Each class has specialized skill types and traits that affect by type. On engineer it is elixirs, kits, turrets, and gadgets. Maybe the types are not different to the underlying code, or maybe they are since there’s been patches to “bundle skills” like kits that have affected other classes across the game. Hard to say definitively.
Also, I’m not sure what gave you the impression that I haven’t tried turrets out. Ironically, it was the opinions on this forum about turrets not being viable that led me to try them again.
I don’t know how you can be told they have 2 pages of notes in front of them and then sit there in silence while one of the other devs nudges the guy to start reading some of them off.
Easy. Ask the devs about a class you don’t play or care about and voila! Instant blank face!
More play style opinions… Oh well.
Think objectively. Your personal opinions about what is useless or not worth a slot or that versatile and fun play is achieved by having one good skill really don’t qualify as reasons to change class mechanics.
(edited by Chaba.5410)
I’ll preface this by saying that I’m not a fan of dramatic changes in class mechanics and that I typically run and enjoy most the hybrid builds that do not rely on all kits or all gadgets or all elixirs or all turrets.
Every kit has only 1 toolbelt skill. We’d lose the toolbelt skills associated with turrets by making them a kit. Nor do I believe that turning them into a kit is going to suddenly make turrets viable. Regret? I’m really not sure what that is supposed to mean. It sounds more like an opinion about a play style than an objective statement about turret viability. Turrets do need better survivability and need better targetting AI. That’ll make them more viable.
I don’t want turrets as a kit. Sorry.
New video. The first battle you see actually happened later after the second battle. I cut out some scenes that got kind of boring because the other guild kept running away from the camp, trying to pull us out. The opponents eventually just gave up and left. Then we left after we got the point tick.
In the second battle (which happened earlier that night), we started out defending the camp against SoS and then a Kaineng group joined in the action from behind. You see veteran guards from our camp bug out and join in attacking us too; everyone wanted a piece of NERF. I cut it out, but after I get up from downed the Kaineng group lured us away from the camp and tried to take us out. We survived then headed back to the camp to find SoS back and almost capping the camp. We held it just long enough for the point tick before getting wiped. Long, long battle.
Some Engineer WvW action. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=324IcjrPImw
I’ve never really understood why its so hard for the two underdogs in a match to focus the leader, especially when that strategy could give either the win.
I didn’t understand either at first. Look here what you said. when that strategy could give either the win. You just answered yourself. The second place starts realizing that if they continue working with third place, they may lose their standing. Why let third place rise? Visa versa, third place starts realizing why should they let second place have all the glory? Wasn’t it third place’s hard work too?
Nice little skirmish along the cliff outside Hills in TCBL there WM.
Feedback was asked for, whether the format was for the sake of it or not.
I didn’t watch the whole video. Glad to see my speculation confirmed about the blank faces when engineer was discussed. Anet, do not ask non-engineer players for their feedback on the engineer!
I’d like the randomness to be solved like this: elixirs have a different outcome depending on your spec.
Maybe set up (passive) traits that will make the elixirs not random anymore, so that if you spec accordingly you will always get the result you want from otherwise random abilities.
And if you don’t spec into this trait randomness stays random.
Hrm, elixir refinement like kit refinement. Wait, wait. I got this one……. Elixir Distillation! Instead of RNG between two effects, it will cycle through each one in order. First toss is Smoke Screen. Second toss is Wall of Reflection. Third toss is Smoke Screen. And so on.
Perfect. I like this idea because it satisfies everyone. Some of us still like a little randomness and can still have it by not taking that trait.
“Did he fire six shots or only five?”

Drop a supply crate on zerg then run through with bombs…. And that’s my support build!
I think they sped up the jump shot slightly (noticed it after last patch), but forgot to do it for when Rifled Barrels is traited…
Extremely unfair!
I just finished watching the engineer discussion in the video (finally). Someone suggested Anet devs don’t play engineer (yet it seems Tyler does). You forgot to mention that none of the three other guys play engineer! Xeph was just repeating stuff he heard second-hand and the two other guys looked like deer in headlights. Anet, please do not ask these people for feedback!!! It is extremely unfair.
The other thing that sticks out is when Anet says turrets are meant to be an engineer’s defensive skills. Turrets do not work that way. Defense in this game implies extreme toughness with nerfed damage output. Turrets die too easily to be defensive skills!
But engineer (i gathered this from random dev comments, recent trait changes, starter spec/gear given for engineers as well as the engineer rune set) are supposed to be a bit tanky.
I did this analysis too! Awesome. I can’t help but wonder if all these clues are a result of the original nerf (the change from a heavy armor class to medium armor).
The most ridiculous keyboard gymnastics gap closer…ever…. Bind “about face” to a key, switch to elixir gun, about face and drop acid bomb (#4), fly to your target and about face again. I call it “The Flying Tank”.
Engineer: the keyboard gymnast profession.
“Mid-range” doesn’t exist and especially not in WvW. Hybrid-range is the more adequate term.
As always, I will take a wait and see approach. Just based on the comments, without having yet watched the video, I’m leaning towards the idea that Anet doesn’t play engineer the way players play engineer. 24k damage?! Srsly? What rare individual does that? Clearly I’m doing something wrong…
Fact 2: Kain hates FA, b/c they got a lot of trolls.
Psssssst. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/3-1-SoS-Kain-FA says otherwise.
Raf,
Oddly enough, “Remember the Dolyaks” is a rallying cry on FA too.
Someone from an RP server ventures into another server’s forum and sees some RP hating about them? Shocking. Absolutely shocking!
To the NERF ppl that were there as well, you guys stay classy :p
.

LOL! I’m not sure what I’m watching there, but I like it!
The lone Kaineng player in that video….
Wrong. Engineer plays all roles in WvW depending upon build. Engineer is only not as efficient in a single role in WvW, but what would you expect from a class that can do everything?
At first I thought the title meant [NERF] Engineers already, not a verb.
Last night I didn’t stay long because of that weird commander and on Friday night, took an hour or so of sticking around to get any decent fights. Looks like its time to get some FA BL action in tonight. I haven’t tried KN BL because the times I’ve been on, we didn’t have a presence there.
I heard something about it, camping Kaineng’s spawn in TCBL or something, yes? It had the effect of people leaving and allowing TC to concentrate their force elsewhere :/
More Magyarok should come play with us as I can make a mean gulyas. Doh, this forum is English only…
And just what does a mass delivery of freight look like?
Oh I see.
In some ways I think this game is made to be around awhile in that such issues will become obsolete as computing power and bandwidth increases.
Brock,
I think you missed my basic point. The growth is not linear. The amount of data the server has to process will grow faster than the number of clients. Whether the growth is exponential, cubic, or slower, is just a small side detail.
If Anet is unable to improve the efficiency of their algorithms, they should just do what Ops people since time immemorial have done: throw more hardware at the problem. (laugh)
(edited by Chaba.5410)
Sorry, the lag has nothing to do with one’s PC, but with the server’s ability to handle client data. As the number of clients increases linearly, the amount of data increases exponentially.
@Chaba – had fun running around with you last night taking camps. I was the human necro slightly blindly running in with ds.
Thanks for running with us!
Darn it! Now you make me wish I took a screenshot of the 13k damage from a single shot I received a few days ago. And before anyone QQs about this, my toughness is already high.
Oh, and anyone else experience major lag last night?
Plus I was tickled pink when I saw a fellow NERF member from the TC server take us out north side of Bay with their group, I FELT THE LOVE THROUGH BALLISTAS MAN. I’m really excited to go online again tomorrow. <3
[NERF] Paribus – Charr Engineer – FA
Yea, but that person should help organize some engie on engie action, FA vs. TC chapters, instead of shooting us with a cannon from the safety of a wall.
Fields are underutilized outside of sPvP? Whut?
That appears to be a personal playstyle choice only, as is the opinion on the elixir gun blast finisher.
Engineer as a tanky profession. I don’t find this idea as particularly odd. Look at what Rune of the Engineer gives. Keep in mind we were supposed to be a heavy armor class.
I wish everyone in Tier one ….would stop logging in, sit down, and listen to this speech:
Do you understand the message? It transcends boundaries and applies to life in GW2. It applies to the world outside that is ignored during gaming sessions. Status, competition, the points? It just doesn’t matter. Forming communities is more important. If you continue to be tribal in your gaming social organization you will continue to be weak.
Demokratsee schtunk.
