We are the oldest Gamer type in existence, we were the ones sitting in our basements playing D&D
Not that I see any relevance between this ramble and the current discussion, but online roleplaying communities developed more out of the old MUSH/MUX telnet communities than from the D&D crowd, imo.
There’s definitely a lot more LARP to it than D&D number-crunching. The D&D crowd would be more focused on theory-crafting WvWvW builds to maximize zerg wiping than dolyak parades and celebrity commanders. Got THAC0?

My tag was from donations. But if my guild was going to do that, I wasn’t going to not help and put up some of my own assets for it. It helps us for when we have more on a map than fit in a single party. I’d certainly help out for my guild.
Run around in circles.
If you read another article, it mentions that the attacks started around March 18th.
Just FYI, the past few days there was a massive DDoS attack on Spamhaus and it apparently was clogging up a lot of network connections. (By massive, I mean like the largest in internet history.)

P.S., My card is Geforce GTX 675M.
My framerates are about the same as yours, but I get these little freeze hiccups which are more noticeable in WvW, but also happen in PvE. Was happening while I was running around in Wayfarer Hills last night. I tried rolling back driver to the one from January. Still saw the hiccups so I’m guessing it has something to do with either the recent game update or a Windows update.
I’m not sure if I’m having the same issue. What I see is that it seems like the client completely freezes for a quick half second or two. I’m also running Nvidia and upgraded to the latest driver… which was probably a dumb thing to do since it was just released like right before the GW2 patch. Anyway, I have followed some Nvidia setting instructions from https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/FPS-and-Performance-based-issues-1/first#post338300 and am going to see how it goes tonight before going back to an older version.
mujtaba, I’ll try that.
Lediath, it was quite frequent in WvW last night, but also when I was in Lion’s Arch.
Update: One freeze is occurring because of a keybind bug I discovered. With default keybinding, if you hold down left Ctrl to display names, you can still hit W to move forward. The game doesn’t interpret that as a Ctrl+W. I changed my keybindings to E to move forward. Now when I try the same move it interprets it as Ctrl+E despite there being no keybinding for that. So I end up freezing in place. It is this that may have started a few days ago.
I submitted an in-game ticket about it. The actual client freezes were really apparent last night.
My client seems to freeze randomly for about a half second. It’s especially annoying in the middle of a fight. My sister reported getting it a few times only after I mentioned it. It started a few days BEFORE the latest patch, but last night was especially bad.
I’m trying to figure out whether it’s something with the client, a recent Windows 7 (64-bit) update, or Nvidia driver update.
Anyone else?
So this is happening right now in FABL Garrison. Culling changes showing actual numbers scares me.
OMG I can’t wait! That’s so awesome. Hope I don’t need to nerf it…
It’s a rather new PvE build calculator so it has trinkets and armor not found in other calculators which makes it much more useful to WvW than the PvP build calculators. The interface does need some work though.
It seemed rather unstable the past two days anyway. Xcache errors… a memory leak somewhere? Whoever is running the forum, I got a little VPS with a static ip that could provide backup name resolution. Just lemme know.
Awwww, how cute!
ELIXIR S IS STILL GOD kitten BUGGED FOR ASURA, JESUS CHRIST
I’m not familiar with this bug. What exactly is bugged here?
The camera is bugged. There’s videos on youtube showing the bug….
(and don’t look at the video of the guy’s smashed and bloody finger on youtube if you are easily grossed out)
Smash that kitten up! Give us damage! Science and engineering yo! (Pretty please?)
Pffft. Been running bombs and turrets since before patch. Stinkin’ bandwagoners. Love you guys anyway.
Patch notes say STATIC, not GLOBAL cooldown. Can anyone actually confirm the cooldown?

LOL. Forum censor filter…
“Stabilized Armor trait: Reduces incoming damage by 5% while endurance is full”
Isnt that how it has always worked already?
I thought the same thing. I guess it was a bug not yet identified by the community! LOL!
Or Anet has been inspired by this trailer in creating engineers kit appearances and rifle skills:
Oh Nexus 6, how low have you gone? That looks hilarious!
This is why Engineer is the most entertaining class in this game.
Turrets. Much talked about by everyone these days. Skip ahead to 12:20.
I think that’s all well and good until you realize that the Flamethrower’s Air Blast and a Rifle’s Overcharged Shot both interrupt/launch people without investing 20 points in Explosives, and on shorter cooldowns.
Actually… there are differences. Accelerant-packed turrets do an AoE knockdown effect while those others you listed are more for single targets. P.S. Air Blast does knockback, not launch. Overcharged Shot does a launch. Chain your launches for hilarity.
You still get stability, they just kitten removed the giant form which is really stupid because it removed a key visual clue as to what the result of the RNG was. I brought it up in the issue forum when it happened, but no one seems to care. HIRE USABILITY ENGINEER PLEASE!
Teehee! I knew I’d get some head turns from that comment.
luckywaldo, not comparing classes here really. Get five of any single class together and they become rather OP. There’s a force multiplier effect that occurs with the skills. Plus players are familiar with all the skills of that single class and can complement easily.
I like what Mif said though.
Now is the time to go film all your favorite skills in order to have a metric by which to measure any patch changes.
Ah, but once I started trying to get my turrets killed, it trained a lot of people to start fearing the turrets. Or at least start getting annoyed enough by them. I want the opponents to have to make a terrible choice. Destroy my turrets and get hurt or leave my turrets alone and get hurt. LOL!
Turrets as knockback fodder. Yep, that’s how you make them viable. They die sooo easily under some group’s AoE so why not exploit that fact? I WANT my turrets in a Supply Crate drop on that zerg to blow up in their face as a result of their AoE. But why should it be that way? That’s just a tactic developed as a result of general turret weakness. Let’s get some turret buffs and develop new tactics!
Spies are fun to play with. You tell them where you’re going to place a catapult and their zerg shows up where you want it to. Good show, spies!
I remember them saying when they go tours they play with a team of 5 Engineers many times
This is the problem. Five engineers is OP. They need to try to solo roam in WvWvW or in a mixed group as the single engineer.
If devs are discussing making Kit Refinement a Master level trait to balance it, then why do we have Grandmaster traits that behave more like Adept or Master level traits? :p Grandmaster trait should remove all current conditions. There is nothing OP about having to put 30 points that cannot be spent elsewhere to get such an effect.
Wonder if they’ll fix the lag on skills (or not being able to use any what so ever) along with the culling…
I don’t think so. Sounds like server CPUs are pegging at 100%. Stop using condition damage and that might help the server. LOLOL!
It’s a Grandmaster trait. It should clear all conditions.
The half second water field is just plain stupid, especially considering skill lag problems. Sometimes I can’t even hit it right after placing and then detonating the healing turret.
I think Anet needs to fix Automated Response. Is it supposed to clear conditions when reaching 25% or just prevent incoming conditions or what? Because the official wiki does still list Automated Response as one of the “condition removal” traits, leading to so much confusion such as the OP’s post.
I always wonder if Anet plays any of the builds people post here. Surely they must!
That recent state of the game video has a “Tyler” and reference was made to him playing engineer.
“kill stuff in a certain area,” vs “area denial.”
Backing up what Seras said, let me repeat that area denial is not “killing stuff in a certain area”. It is not meant to be AoE damage. It’s about AoE control.
Come on, Habib. Program GW2 to run on a massively parallel system and be supercool. Individual CPUs won’t matter when all the CPUs in a single datacenter work together.
WvW always reminds me of this.
Siofra,
I wrote my post rather generally, but the last sentence was indeed meant just for you. Sorry if it seemed like the whole post was directed at you.
My main is Engineer. That must be why I only have 1 lvl 80 so far and the others are far below that.
The term “area denial” has a specific meaning in a military context. Combat engineers in modern armies practice area denial by the laying of mines and doing things like blowing up bridges. Combat engineers also are experts at clearing areas, providing access. Ever seen a show like Bomb Patrol Afghanistan? Those are combat engineers. Area denial isn’t necessarily about damage, but controlling access to an area.
The engineer class in GW2 is meant to imitate this real life combat role. Seriously, if you go read a little about combat engineers, it seems like some dev just read the same thing as you and started making skills.
You need to add Accelerant-packed and detonating turrets to the list of AoE CC skills.
NERF engineers have used Deployable Turrets to place them in areas unreachable to the engineer and reachable to the target, like the tops of tower walls. Thumper Turret up there provides great trollage, especially when someone destroys the turret, which is packed with accelerant.
P.S. Toss Elixir R is a light field.
This is almost the same as my build that I’ve been using for the past few weeks in WvW. Mine is 20/0/30/10/10. I don’t use Kit Refinement, I have 20 in Explosives for Accelerant-Packed Turrets with Extra Supplies because I like the knockback, and I use Elixir R in place of Toolkit.
I use it almost the same way too, but I’ll detonate healing turret, BoB, and magnetic shield inversion for more stacks.
Eh, stop saying it’s because of an engineer fix. It was a general profession skills fix.
“Gadgets placed by players (such as turrets) will now apply boons and conditions based on those players’ stats. Those conditions and boons will not be reduced to level-1 values when the triggering gadget is destroyed.”
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Game-Update-Notes-January-28-2013/first#post1468295
I want the machine gun turret in the wallpaper.
I think the main problem with zerg www for engineer is that nobody yet tried to gather a group of 15-20 proper mix of grenadiers and bombers instead of warrior train. Playing a class for half a year i still can’t see how that damage+control could be mitigated.
NERF maybe has tried something like this, but to be honest we don’t demand that people run with certain builds. The Supply Crate drop matches a warrior’s F1 hammer skill with the 2 seconds of stun…
Slightly different cooldown on the two though!
Yes, “slightly”. Teehee. Has to be chained and the build requires skills with followup.
