Yeah but the Epicanthic fold kind of gives it away.

The Pale Tree was planted on a human graveyard and the bodies of the humans were used as a template for the Sylvari form. If a Canthan was buried there and it’s face was used as a template it’s not the same as being Canthan. A copy is not the original. Looking like something isn’t being something.

Neither Asia or Cantha has any sylvari so Trahearne and Canach are not Asian or Canthan.

Well they certainly do all look Asian..don’t they?

No. No Asian I’ve ever seen has leaves for hair.

Not technically no, but Marjory Delaqua is.

I actually love the authenticator dragon, it’s huge and has an eye catching animation!
I wish there was a version of it that was a bit harder to get:)

The mini Snow Flurry dragon might be that. It’s the same size, body type and animation but it’s made of snowflakes and has a snow particle effect. Its gemstore and only occasionally available.

I have one and use it on one of my chars.

Less Outfits, more Armor Skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Your comment and example are about town clothes. Town clothes did have seams and were divided into pieces like armor is.

Outfits however are designed differently. They are designed as single piece with no
seams.

are you taking crazy pills?!
Mad King’s set is an OUTFIT now,
that is an OUTFIT that is in PARTS.

Witches, Bloody Prince, Mad King, Pirate, these are all outfits that are in separate parts.
outfits ARE NOT a single piece, they are already in sections.

Just because they took old town clothes and redesigned them as outfits does not mean that other, newer outfits were designed with seams in mind and with natural stopping places. Outfits are designed as “onesies.” They may or may not have places where you can cut them and not disrupt the flow of the design.

I can easily imagine that outfits are deliberately designed to be seamless and so require far less art and technical QA than armor pieces.

how do you respond to a comment CLEARLY SHOWING SEPARATE OUTFIT PIECES with a comment about how they are seamless and not viable as separate armour
pieces…

Your comment and example are about town clothes. Town clothes did have seams and were divided into pieces like armor is.

Outfits however are designed differently. They are designed as single piece with no seams. This different design means they were not made with seams in mind and they are a unified whole.

An illegal server that gets closed down and the owners sued for copyright infringement? It would be the price of court costs, fines and any jail sentence.

A legal server? Arnanet istnt going to sell their rights to someone else so not possible.

It’s been my experience that people who are being so toxic in chat that you would block them don’t send nice or apologetic whispers to the other players in that match. They continue with their toxicity. ANet has seen that allowing people to talk after a block ends up with the conversation escalating and probably both sides getting reported and suspended.
The absolute block allows for a cooling off period and keeps the number of reports (and work for support) down.

What is the difference between block and individual character mute? Both do the same thing.

No. One prohibits chat from that player altogether. No whispers, no map chat, no team chat, etc. It may be that particular player is having a bad day and acting out is more of a temporary thing. In that instance, I would rather just mute that player. Blocking effectively places his or her head on the chopping block and takes any means by which they might be able to apologize or come to their senses out of the equation. If muted, the player can be unmuted to see if they are being somewhat normal or continuing to
act out. So, no, they are not the same.

Still don’t see the difference. You can alway unblock the char to see if they’ve come to their senses or continuing to act out.

Block/mute: can’t see that chars chat
Unblock/unmute: can see that chars chat.

How are they different if they do the same thing?

Game’s been down for way too long. I think at this point some sort of compensation for both the losses in progress and the very long downtime would be right. Even something small.

A reminder. You don’t own your account. Arena net owns it and allows you to use it.

That is true. However, PR wise it would be bad to let too much time go by without giving something in return to players.

Chad.6104

Why would you need one, can’t you just click on the Makeover Kit and view them there, or just see the new looks online?

You’re overlooking why this NPC exists in the first place: If I’m considering buying a makeover kit, but don’t already have one, it’s nice to be able to view my options another way. Looking them up online sorta works, but if I want to see how a certain hair color goes with a particular hair style, on my particular face, with my skin color / markings / horns / etc., a screenshot of another character isn’t nearly as good.

I don’t know why they don’t add the new NPCs to the old locations and just differentiate them by theme and location. They might miss some upgrade sales, but they might make up for it with people buying old passes when they’re available, instead of waiting for the “best” one to return. That seems as likely to be an oversight as it is to be a sales maneuver.

They added a makeover NPC to Lions Arch a while back. For some reason they stuck it inside a building off to one side instead of putting it in a central location by the bank/mystic forge/crafting.

But yes. They should add a makeover NPC to all of these areas that require a pass.

Guys,

Please don’t put up the names of RMT companies in our forums. As one member pointed out, you’re essentially spreading the word of their business, inadvertently “advertising” for them.

Report them in the game. I guarantee that many are addressed every day, and I’ll talk with CS on Monday to see if there are ways we could improve the filters.

Keep in mind, as others point out, malicious companies who find they are blocked often just create new names, so containing them can be a bit of a case of “whack-a-mole.” Still, we do take this seriously, and we act on RMT spammers every day. With your help, we can do more!

Why doesn’t ANet just give us the ability to create local chat filters? RegEx and perhaps an easy mode that uses one with wildcard support that can be used to filter out messages we don’t want to see. Perhaps it could be a flat text config file and if the UI team wanted to get fancy, they could create an in-game filter editor. Then if there’s a spot in the forums for it, people could post their filters and the users can create and/or cut and paste what they want into their own local chat filters. If there is an in-game UI for the chat filters, you could have a menu of “official” and “player” submitted chat filters that we could click a checkbox to subscribe to.

Since the gold sellers have paid for accounts, even if stolen, couldn’t they have an account subscribed to it also to see what is blocked and how to get around the filters? If it’s on the forum, couldn’t they just read it to do the same. Couldn’t they add false information if it benefited them in some way? I don’t think this would work as well as you think it would.

Thanks,

Since I’m a developer I have replied to the artist that responded with some developer style suggestions on how this could be accomplished. Hopefully it’s something they can use. I know dyeable backpieces are a frequently requested topic.

I wouldn’t worry about it. Either she didn’t say anything actionable and nothing will happen to her or she did and she’ll get the appropriate punishment, and maybe learn not to abuse others.

And if she saw you weren’t doing your job right all during the event, why didn’t she whisper helpful instructions? If someone is doing a job so badly as to fail the meta event and isn’t given help to correct it, then the people that let it go without giving instructions are just as much to blame. (Not that I think you actually caused the meta to fail. Just pointing out that she would be equally at fault in a situation like that).

Shared Foraging Tools

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Chad.6104

Chad.6104

It’s easy to say give us shared tools, but how would it work? They have to be put in the harvesting tool slots first so they can’t just be “shared harvesting tools for X gems each”.
How would it work exactly? Would you get a free copy of each tool you buy for every char you make all the way up to the max number of chars? Because I don’t see this happening.

You equip them on character of your choice, call it character A.
Character B doesnt have any tools.
You open Hero panel on character B, and see shared tools from character A. Their icon is faded a little and there is a small icon in the corner. You are free to use them even though character B doesn’t have them equipped yet.
You can also decide to equip different tools on character B, if you wish for any reason (mostly fashion reasons?).
Also this would be much better if it works as a shared slot, not a shared tool.
You could use any infinite tools then (skins).
Cons for Anet are that there isn’t anything new sold, though a QoL change like this has the potential to bump up sales of these tools by huuge amounts.
Only they have numbers on how many active accounts own these, though I personally will never buy any of these tools without sharing options.

Would this be a programming nightmare?
We will never know!
But it might be something that would bump the infinite tools.

Yes. Account bound harvesting tool slots is a much better suggestion than shared harvesting tools with an unspecified means of action. It’s something that been suggested before.

Of course that means that people who’ve bought multiple sets for themed animations on different characters are again left out of this convenience.

[Suggestion] World Map Completion Accountwide

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Chad.6104

Chad.6104

Why not add a “Mastery Point” as an additional “reward” for Map Completion in the Tyria (only) world? This would provide an additional incentive for characters to actually complete their world exploration, AND aid those players who “dislike, are uninterested, or just donwanna” play WvW, PvP, Fractals, or “run” dungeons to still be able to complete the “new” mastery sequence in Tyria. Or——add a “Mastery Point” for each REGION (Kryta, Ascalon, Shiverpeaks, Maguuma) completed by a character (NOT retroactive).
As it is currently, ANET forces players to engage in activities that they are uninterested in playing, which can only serve to drive away those players————a GREAT way of reducing server loads!!! I like “playing the game”————sitting around “LFG” on my thumb doesn’t impress me at all!! But that’s exactly what happens in Fractals, Dungeons, and PvP——————-whoopee!!

A non rectroactive mastery point for having done content is different from all the other mastery points. All the others are done once no matter when and done for all on that account. You’re arguing for a remake of the mastery points because you don’t want to explore on each char, but that’s not a good enough reason to do that.

Your post also seems to suggest that multiple chars can earn the same mastery points by repeating the same content. (add a “Mastery Point” for each REGION (Kryta, Ascalon, Shiverpeaks, Maguuma) completed by a character). . If so, that’s another redo of the mastery system and would be abused by people making and deleting chars to farm map Masteries.

What is Anet's stance on P2P trading?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Chad.6104

Chad.6104

You can use a third person to escrow the trade, if you’re worried. For example, if your “sorta friend” reads the forums, you might consider asking one of the forum regulars, since both parties could reasonably trust that person (assuming they were willing to get in the middle). I know of a couple of folks that asked WvW commanders, since they, too, are known, trusted 3rd parties.

Another alternative is that you could publish the terms of the deal someplace that you both agree, so at least if anything goes wrong, there’s additional evidence and the “scammer” would be volunteering for their own naming & shaming.

For me, the 15% savings is too little for just a single transaction. I prefer the security and simplicity of using the TP.

There’s the max 500 gold limit to consider though with a middleman. Depending on the total price and whether or not the middleman has accepted/is accepting gold from other account(s), it could range from a day to a couple of weeks for the middleman to be able to accept the full 900 gold plus for a Spark and then be able to send it on.

Disagree all you like but I’ve been here the whole time and LS (both of them) had fast release schedules.

Times change. ArenaNet changes things quite fast as well. Holding on to the breadcrumb that something that wasn’t different before with ArenaNet and Guild Wars 2 is rather silly.

Not sure why you expect it was never subject to change. Not sure why it’s important that it is always the same either.

Times change. ArenaNet changes things quite fast as well. Holding on to the breadcrumb that something that wasn’t different before with ArenaNet and Guild Wars 2 is rather silly.

Not sure why you expect it was never subject to change. Not sure why it’s important that it is always the same either.

Because I paid for a light expansion that continues to get lighter. Now, the head of Anet is confirming that they will not do LS as they had before. Now it’s an issue.

Show me one time, just one time that Anet said buying HoT would allow you access to future LS but at half or less than half the frequency of what they had delivered pre xpac, and I’ll apologise.

/crickets

I don’t think they ever said the frequency exactly, but they did say in the AMA thread on Reddit that they wouldn’t be returning to the every two week update schedule.

Gw2 is not going back to biweekly updates

Auric Basin Loot "Exploit" [merged]

None of us that are saying it is an exploit are saying that players should be banned for it. But you can’t deny it is an exploit based on the definition of an exploit.

That depends on whether this is in fact an unintended/unanticipated method of gaining loot, which until someone from behind the scenes comments on, we can only speculate about.

My own feeling is that if it introduces more money to the economy, it also introduces more sinks. I’m not convinced it introduces significantly more money. Do the AB chests even give any coin loot? If so, limiting or removing that might be the only change needed.

Otherwise, the only effect this can have is to increase the frequency of certain items (be they raw materials from salvaging or rare loot) which will drive the high-end prices down and in turn drive total number of purchases of those items up. Items can only increase the amount of total gold in the economy if they are sold to an npc, so the only way this can inject money into the economy is if it pushes prices of both items and materials so low that a significantly larger portion are sold to a vendor instead of being listed for trade. I doubt this is likely to cause that.

Given that anet has, to my knowledge, never removed a mechanic by which gold is siphoned out of the economy, i can’t see them doing anything about this one.

They removed two that I know of, although both were fairly minor. The cost of armor repairs and the need to buy trait books from trainers.

Edit: and there is a third from a guild bonus that decreases waypoint costs by up to 15%.

I know of some changes that were discussed on the forums but there never was a post by a dev at the times of the discussion. Some examples that I can think of offhand are:

Wardrobes were added (for free).
Account wide inventory slots were added to the gem store.
The ranger warhorn used to agro enemies on skill 5, a speed boost that would immediately put you into combat and slow you down if you used it near a mob. And your pet would attack it also.
LFG was added to the game.
Megaservers were added to PvE after a number of forum threads by people from full servers complaining about people bandwagoning on their server through guesting and taking up their slots on their maps during meta boss events and sending them undeservedly to overflow maps.
A cap was added to daily AP gain, both the AP that could be gained each day and the total daily AP.
The temporary Living World was removed and made permanent after numerous complaints about missing temporary content after it was over. This was a big change and a complete redesign to their dream of having a true living world where events happened and then disappeared, just like real life.

Now I’m not saying that forum posts and complaints were the sole reason for these changes, however they were discussed on the forums and were never acknowledged on the forum at the time of the discussion. Changes were made to the game that removed the problem or added the feature.

That one in 50 drops is across the full player base though. For an individual player it might be one in 100 drops. Or one in 200 drops if RNG is against him.

Completely wrong. If the chance is 1:50 for a drop, it does not matter how many players try to get that drop at the same time. The chance will ALWAYS be 1:50, regardless if 1 player, 100 players or 10000 players open boxes, because drops scale proportional with the number of participating players. While one player opens 1 box, 100 players open 100 boxes and 10000 players open 10000 boxes. The number of drops will statistically be 0,02, 2 and 200 respectively, which translates directly back to the initial 1:50 chance.

Furthermore, that it may be 1 in 100 drops or 1 in 200 drops depending on luck is natural, just as it may be 1 in 1. That is the nature of a “chance”.

Sorry. I said that clumsily. I didn’t mean that the 1 in X changes for the individual. I meant that across all players the chance may be in in 50 but for the individual opening chests, he might not get a full ticket until he opens 100 chests. I was pointing out that doing math to determine projected costs for an individual and basing your costs on a lucky chance is a bad idea.
