Getting the zerg out of Queensdale.

What you’re proposing is exactly the way it used to be before they changed it to the way it is now.

The problem before was:

  • High level players were only in high level zones so they could get decent loot
  • Low level zones were empty

The solution:

  • Reward players with character level appropriate loot no matter where they’re playing

The problem(s) it caused:

  • Players will look for, and find, the absolute easiest way to get the most amount of loot in the least amount of time (Queensdale Champ Train) (NOTE: This situation will ALWAYS be the case, no matter what changes are made to the game. It may not be the Queensdale Champ Train, but there will always be a “best place to get loot” that players will flock to.)
  • Players find it difficult to find mid-level items / materials once they’ve passed the item level of those items (Cotton, Linen, etc.)

It’s a Catch 22. You either have massive amounts of empty zones with high level players only playing in high level zones, or you have high level players playing the easiest content they can find that gives them the greatest rewards.

I agree with making events like Tequatl and the Wurm into instanced events.

It could be easily handled through the WP system as well.

If you try to use a WP from outside the zone, you could get a prompt like….

“Tequatl has landed!!! Would you like to join the fight?”

Upon answering “Yes”, it takes you to a zone within the Sparkfly zone….kind of like when you enter your Home Instance. The fight should then scale around the number of people in the zone.

Upon answering “No”, it takes you to the normal Sparkfly zone.

It would separate players that WANT to do the event from players that just want to be in the zone.

I would imagine that Un-id’d dyes will still drop in the world, but they’ll be like Black Lion Chests where you need a “key” (Dye Unlocker) in order to open them and use the contents.

If they still drop in the world, they’ll likely remain tradeable as well. The price on them, like the Black Lion Chests, should drop dramatically as the dye itself is useless without a “key”.

My guess is that Legendary Armor will come to GW2 eventually. It may also coincide with the release of new mega-dungeons like UW & FoW.

My hope would be for 2-3 versions of Light, Medium, and Heavy Legendary Armor….so we don’t end up with a ton of people running around with the same stuff. I see a great opportunity for mix-n-match Legendary Armors…..based off the concept of Obsidian Armor from GW1.

While these are just my wishes and dreams…..I doubt it’ll actually happen that way.

How do I become a 1%

in Black Lion Trading Co

Charismatic Harm.9683

The best advice I can offer is:

  • Look for a way to give yourself an advantage.

While websites like GW2Spidy are great and have some wonderful information, all sorted and pretty, these websites are “public domain”, meaning everyone has access to them. If everyone has access to them, then everyone sees the same information. If everyone sees the same information, then the most profitable items will have a lot of competition.

Look for ways to further analyze this “public” data to give yourself an advantage. Numbers given for Current Buy Orders and Current Sell Listings aren’t a realistic representation of Demand and Supply, respectively, but they CAN give you an idea of how easy an item would be to buy or sell.

Getting the data is a HUGE part of how able you are to analyze it, react, and profit from it. There are several ways to get the data you’re looking for, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. If you have a cursory knowledge of programming, you can create your own tool (database or spreadsheet) that will track the prices of items and analyze them to determine profitability.

Your best bet is to start small by manually entering data into a spreadsheet, then find ways to look at the numbers differently than everyone else….looking for profit in untapped areas. Once you do that, you can begin adding automation through programming. Soon enough, you’ll be tracking multiple markets, gathering the data automatically, analyzing it, then having your tool tell you exactly where you should be investing your money with the least amount of risk and greatest amount of reward.

Also, keep in mind that flipping items, while the easiest market to get into, has the most amount of competition. Find ways to gather data that isn’t readily, and publicly, available.

I realize this is all pretty general information, but it’s likely that’s all you’ll really get from this thread. Those “in the know” will not tell you specific markets or items to invest in because all it will do is hurt their profits. If anyone DOES give you specific information, it’s likely that one of two things is happening: 1.) they’re trying to lead you astray; 2.) they’re trying to profit off of you and others in your situation. Some players are VERY knowledgeable as far as how the TP works and how to find profit in it. From the posts I’ve read, Wanze.8410 and Vol.7601 are players like that. Listen to their advise.

The last bit I can offer is to understand that there are three basic markets in the game:

  • Flipping: Buying an item at a low price, then selling it at a higher price
  • Creation: Taking multiple items and combining them into a single item where the final value is greater than the sum of its components (Crafting / Mystic Forge / etc.)
  • Destruction: Taking a single item and breaking it into multiple components where the value of those items are greater than the value of the higher level item. (Salvaging / Containers / etc.)

Except when I type “Sigil” and it returns pages of “runes”

Really? That’s very odd.

I just typed “sigil” into the search field, using no filters, and hit “Search”.

It returned 179 items. All items had the word “Sigil” somewhere in its title. 170 items were actual Sigils (Minor, Major & Superior) and 9 items were crafting recipes (3 Major / 6 Superior).

Weapon upgrade component filter does not work

in Black Lion Trading Co

Charismatic Harm.9683

Yeah that works, thanks. This was driving me nuts, the search field can’t handle multiple words unless they are exact, apparently.

Actually, the search field searches for ALL words typed in (up to six words). If you type the correct words in the correct order, it will list that item first, but it will also return every item on the Trading Post that contains ANY of the six words you typed in. Any words typed in after the sixth word are ignored.

It’s a very clumsy way of searching and returning items, but if you pay attention to how items you searched for are returned, you start seeing patterns. Once you identify those patterns, you can LIMIT the words you type into the search field, then start using the filters to narrow down the list of items returned.

Also, you can only search text that is in the item’s name. You can not search for stats or features of an item. For example, if you search for “power”, the returned items will be ones with “power” in their name, like “Powerful Venom Sac”, instead of armor or weapons with +Power as a stat.

There are so many quality of life changes that could be made, just to searching and filtering, on the Trading Post. It makes my head spin sometimes. I love the TP. It’s SO easy to buy and sell items….if you know EXACTLY what you’re looking for. If you don’t, it’s a real pain trying to find something.

If they do this….and I would like to stress the “if”…..I would recommend it being at a 10 to 1 ratio.

That way, it doesn’t make the acquisition of Ascended materials too easy. It would then be meant for those that have an abundance of one material, but just need a few of one or two of the others.

For me, Bloodstone Dust seems to be the most abundant based on my play style, but for others, it could be one of the others. I would happily trade 10 of my Bloodstone Dust for 1 of one of the others. Perhaps even a ratio of 25 to 1 would be better. For every stack of one material, you’d get 10 of another.

It shouldn’t be an avenue for a player to grind Champ bags to get Ascended weapons / armor though.

Looking at the sheer number of different things that can come out of the chest, it seems that opening 500 of them doesn’t even close to determining a reasonable droprate for the items inside.

In my experience, you should do as many trials as it takes to get at least 1 of everything that CAN come out……then do 4 times that amount to have a reasonable approximation of the droprate for individual items.

The greater the number of items inside……the greater the number of trials required.

GW2 Heroes

Charismatic Harm.9683

The living story instances were like this, you can easily solo them. So is the personal story. So…

Yeah…..right up until the last step where you’re required to do the Story Mode of the Arah dungeon. 99% solo…..1% forced to group.

Oh….you actually want to finish your PERSONAL story…..too bad.

I agree with the addition of NPC allies for instanced content. ONLY in instanced content though.

My idea for this would be:

  • Enter an instance
  • Is your party comprised of less than 5 people?
    • Yes:
      • A dialog box pops up and you can select NPC Allies to fill in your party
    • No:
      • No dialog box pops up

Currently, when you enter a dungeon, a dialog message pops up if you have less than 5 people in your party. I doubt it would be easy, but this would be the perfect time to ask you if you’d like to fill in your party with NPC’s. If you select “No”, you should still be able to get to that dialog somehow though.

I don’t think the NPC Allies should be like Heros in GW1 though. They should be like Henchmen were. A list of available NPC’s with set skill bars. They’re not meant to replace other players, but to aid you on your quest. Heros were awesome in GW1….too awesome actually. I found them to be MUCH better than an average player. I rarely did any content with other people because it was more trouble than it was worth. I also found that there were some builds that a Hero could run better than ANY human player.

TL;DR
I feel that the addition of Henchmen for instanced content would be incredibly good for the game as a whole. Players could get comfortable with the encounters on their own before trying them with a real group and being berated for “not doing it right” and it would allow those players that just want to complete the content once and move on the opportunity to do so.

Suggestion: Rarely killed mob = better loot

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Charismatic Harm.9683

Charismatic Harm.9683

I really like the idea of diversifying the player base and rewarding players for exploration.

It seems that some of the heartburn with this idea stems from changes that would be made to Champions. (e.g. If a Champ is alive longer, they drop better loot)

What if this idea didn’t apply to Vets, Champs, Legendaries, or any enemy above a standard mob? It would ONLY apply to standard enemies.

For example (please note that I have NO IDEA how the loot tables actually work):

Currently, each mob has it’s own loot table, with % chances of dropping items out of certain tiers, or buckets. Each of those tiers likely has a % chance of getting a certain item. What if the the Bonus XP equation was used to put that mobs loot table on a sliding scale. It starts at the bottom with 0 Bonus XP and its standard loot table and ends with Max Bonus XP and Max Multiplier of the standard loot table. Therefore, as a mob sits and gains Bonus XP, its Multiplier is also increased, so when you kill the mob, that multiplier is applied to the standard loot table.

I know that people want better loot off of the best enemies in the game….because they already have the “best loot”, but I think this idea could be a better way to gain better loot without even touching those high end mobs.

Just a thought.

The game relies too much in the TP...

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Charismatic Harm.9683

Charismatic Harm.9683

For those that think playing the TP is “easy” and “anyone can make tons of money every day”, I’d like to give my personal experience.

First, I’ll start with some background.

I played GW1 from the Feb 2005 Beta Weekend and played continuously through the GW2 release and up to this point. I don’t spend dozens of hours per week to play…I can’t afford to. I have a life outside of a video game that I enjoy a great deal. I want my time in game to be fun. I got burned out with GW1 for one simple reason: The only thing I could do to make money was farm. I hated trading in GW1. I didn’t have the patience for it.

When GW2 came out, I determined that the TP was going to be my method of “farming”. I knew that if I did it right, I could spend a little bit of my play time making money and the rest of it actually playing the game. I started by writing things down and analyzing prices. Looking into different markets. This developed into using spreadsheets to track everything. Finally….I made a database. The database I created gets item and pricing information using API’s and the internal analysis of the data I collect tells me INSTANTLY which markets I should invest in.

From my view, there are three broad markets on the TP which everything falls under: Flipping, Creation, Destruction. Flipping is the easy one. Buy an item for a lower price and resell it at a higher price. With flipping, there is a lot of competition….because it’s the easiest one to understand. Creation takes multiple items and turns them into a single item. The idea is to buy the components for a lower price than the final output will sell for. Crafting and Mystic Forging fall into this category. The third is Destruction. Destruction takes a single item and turns it into multiple items. Salvaging and the opening on containers falls into this category.

I’ve spent most of my time in the Creation and Destruction markets. With that, I was able to turn a 5g investment into 1,007g……over the course of about 18 MONTHS. It was slow going. It took a LOT of math and analysis…and I mean A LOT!!!! The math and analysis allowed me to reduce my risk on every trade. Once you have money to invest, it’s easier to make more money….just like in real life. The problem becomes finding places to invest that much money that doesn’t consume all of your time. So, as you make more money, you have to move into markets that offer greater rewards. The problem with these markets is that they also come with greater risk.

I made my initial goal of 1000g and it was time to move into one of those markets. I was able to turn that 1000g into 1400g in a little over 2 hours. AWESOME!!!! Right? Yep…it was. I made a 40% profit….exactly like my analysis had showed me I would. So….time to do it again…right? YEP!!! Of COURSE!!!! I re-invested that 1400g…..and now I have 320g. I lost……BIG TIME!!!!! The probability that I would lose that amount money was 0.3%. I had a 99.7% chance at success….but I still lost. That’s the nature of RNG. The amount of work it will take to get me back to 1000g is disheartening.

Would I do it again? YEP!!!! OF COURSE!!!!
Am I already in the process of doing it again? YEP!!

I’m just back to investing in the markets I invested in when I had 300g last time.

My luck with RNG historically in any game I’ve ever played is bad, so I know I’m going to have to work for whatever money I have. In modern MMO’s, that usually means farming, running dungeons, raiding, or trading. I want my time in game to be fun, not monotonous. While the TP may seem monotonous to some, it’s not to me. Just the THOUGHT of farming to make money makes me not want to log into GW2. Everyone is different.

GW2s no gold sink issue

(snip)

….and before people get confused thinking “well buying items from the trading post is a gold sink!”…no it isn’t because the gold is landing in someone elses pocket instead of being took out of the game completely.

This is not true.

15% of the value of the item that was purchased is removed from the game completely due to the 5% listing fee and the 10% sales fee. Only 85% of the value of the item is given to the seller.

If you consider the thousands (probably more like millions) of items that are transacted on the Black Lion Trading Company per day, it amounts to quite a lot.

This is the single largest gold sink in the game.

I am salvaging a lot of rares, and I always have to double click the kit, then click on the rare item, then click yes. This is very annoying if you have to do this like 100 times.

You disabled this for the green items some time ago, and I (and I bet a lot of other players too) would be very happy if you could make an option in the options menu to disable this for rares too!

Thanks!

I disagree. Personally, I would not like the warning removed from salvaging rares.

I salvage a LOT of items while out in the field, but use different kits for fine/masterwork and rare/exotic.

I’m fine with burning through basic kits while salvaging blues/greens, but every so often, I accidentally hit a rare with a basic kit and the warning allows me to stop what I’m doing and switch kits.

Really? Do you not remember running through Queensdale on your first character? Do you not remember having ZERO money on your account? Do you not remember having only one 20 slot backpack and nothing else?

These 5 slot bags aren’t placed in the game as a hindrance to you and your Queensdale champion farming zerg. They’re placed in the game, in a low-level zone, to reward NEW players with something beneficial to them.

Not everything is about the zerg. Think about it.

Rez the downed.

Leave the dead to rot.

If you decide to rez a dead player after you’ve killed the surrounding mobs and they aren’t appreciative, stop rezzing them and move on. Leave them mid-rez.

If you’re in a large group event, NEVER rez the dead. Several players can rez a downed player in a couple of seconds. It takes several players about 20 seconds to rez a dead player. Dead players need to learn to use the nearest uncontested WP instead of pulling other players out of the fight.

Even adding a subscription fee as an option would go against that core philosophy.

If ArenaNet chose to toss that aside just to add an optional subscription fee, I feel that would be the last straw for many players.

I vote a very large, NO for a subscription fee…..even if it’s just an option.

Just let us buy precursor from Miyani.

in Suggestions

Posted by: Charismatic Harm.9683

Charismatic Harm.9683

I see good and bad with this suggestion….

The good:

  • This would be an even bigger gold sink when talking about precursors. The current gold sink is the TP, of which 15% of the price is removed from the game. This way, 100% of the price is removed from the game. It might be too much though.

The bad:

  • Precursors will cease to be rare in any sense of the word, thereby making Legendaries commonplace. While some may see this as a good thing from their individual point of view (i.e “I’ve got mine, that’s all I care about”), it will actually make them less desirable.
  • As I stated above, the gold sink could be too large. Removing huge chunks of gold at a time as “everyone” rushes to buy their precursor from Miyani will, most likely, cause a ripple effect throughout the TP. That much gold leaving the game at once is not a good thing.
  • Mystic Forge crafting of precursors will become obsolete. That may seem like a good idea as well, but it will cause the prices, and value, of rare and exotic weapons to tank. This will also make crafting of those rares and exotics less valuable.
  • The prices of materials used to craft the rares and exotics that are tossed into the forge will likely also see a hit. As fewer are used to craft those rares and exotics, the supply of the items will increase and the price will drop. Some will also view this as a good thing, but what happens when everything you loot in the game becomes essentially worthless?

I like the idea of crafting your own precursor. I think it will give those players that don’t want to rely on RNG to get their pretty shiny a way to get it through hard work and dedication. That’s a great thing. Giving players the ability to buy the most sought after items in the game whenever they want is not good for the overall health of the economy or the game.

I doubt Anet is going to bork the precursor crafting. I think they know the ramifications if they do. They know that some of the player base is unhappy with the current system and they are addressing it. Let’s not rush them. If we do, we’ll get a craptacular system that no one will like anyway.

How many really care about personal story?

My personal story.

My L80 Main Character stopped her personal story when she hit the final dungeon.

When my other four L80 Alts found out there was a dungeon at the end, they ALL stopped their personal story too.

Now I have one Alt do a personal story once every 2 weeks when it comes up for the daily, otherwise I no longer do them.

At this rate I will be doing my personal story until about 2018 without having to complete that final dungeon.

Moral of my story: Did 49 personal story missions Solo, last mission required to group up and do dungeon, means all 5 Characters not expected to finish 50/50, oh well…moving on.

I agree with this for the most part.

I enjoyed my personal story up until the point I figured out that the Story Mode of the Arah Dungeon needed to be completed for me to continue.

In order to complete the story mode, I have to find 4 other people that want to do the story mode as well. Not once during the entire “Personal” Story did I need to group up with anyone else….why now? Why right at the end?

I was under the impression that the Personal Story line could be completed without the need to group up. It’s one of the things I LOVED about the PS. It was something I could do when I had a few extra minutes and I didn’t need anyone else to do it. Now, I HAVE to find a group in order to complete it. Believe me…..HAVE TO is true.

I tried going in solo, thinking the members of Destiny’s Edge and I could handle the Risen. This is SO not the case. The members of Destiny’s Edge couldn’t kill a poor defenseless puppy with a tank if you gave it to them. They’re not even good “meat shields”. Every single enemy blew right past them and headed for me. Getting one-shotted continually just isn’t fun. “Can a guy get a rez?” Nope!!! Why don’t you just stand there and watch as the enemies kill you.

There are so many parts of the content of GW2 that I will mostly finish, yet never complete. The “Personal” Story is just another one that has been added to my list recently.

Am I supporting Anet if I buy gems for gold?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Charismatic Harm.9683

Charismatic Harm.9683

Yes and no…..

If you buy Gems with real money and spend them in the Gem Store, or leave them in your bank for future use, it does not affect the Gem to Gold conversion rate.

It only affects the Gem to Gold conversion rate if you TRADE Gems for Gold through the Exchange….and vice versa if you use Gold to buy Gems through the Exchange.

Buying Gems with real money DOES support Anet though as you are directly giving them cash. Converting Gold to Gems acts, somewhat, as a Gold Sink and thereby helps keep inflation in the game down.

"Error" when selling too many items?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Charismatic Harm.9683

The really funny part about this “error” being there to combat bots is that it doesn’t really do anything to hinder bots. It only ends up annoying players.

Once the bot programmer figures out the timing of the “error”, it’s MORE than easy enough to program around.

The bot programmer can do one of two things:

1.) They can sell 10 items quickly, then put a wait timer in before selling item 11

or

2.) They can figure out the time between sales so they can sell continuously.

Either way….it doesn’t combat botting. It annoys players.

I think I noticed something odd while I was salvaging blues / greens last night that I didn’t expect.

I initially started salvaging them with Basic kits and noticed that I didn’t get any of the upgrades from the greens. Once I ran out of Basic kits, I started using Crude kits and started receiving some of the runes / sigils.

Did they change the functionality of the Basic kit so that it doesn’t strip upgrades like the unlimited version? If so, it might actually be better to use Crude kits. At least you’d get mats, upgrades AND Essence of Luck.

"Block" deposit minis ability

in Suggestions

Posted by: Charismatic Harm.9683

Charismatic Harm.9683

They could also add a check mark or something to the collections tab for the minis. That way, you don’t ever have to have them in your inventory.

It could work like this….
1) Select up to 5 minis from your collection
2) Add a small UI that shows the 5 you’ve selected
3) The new UI is account wide and shows up when you hit a certain key on your keyboard
4) Double-click the mini
5) Hide the UI

That way, you can always deposit any minis you want into your collection and the next time you visit your bank, you could change your selection. You could also still use the minis in your inventory as they are used currently. Basically, you can have 5 selected that are always available to any character on your account, then however many other available on each character based on what’s in your inventory.

Tracking Profit/ROI?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Charismatic Harm.9683

Charismatic Harm.9683

Personally, I do all of my profit potential and RoI calculations BEFORE I invest any money. I set certain thresholds in my calculations so that even if a market fluctuates a little during the time I’m buying, or selling, I still make a “good” profit.

I’ve set everything up to make sure that I’m not buying / selling anything that doesn’t have at LEAST a 20% profit associated with it. With that 20% criteria, even if the market dips a little….I’ll probably still hit around 15%….possibly as low as 10%. 10% profit is still making money….and that’s all that matters.

I don’t worry about tracking my profits after the fact. That takes time away from trading. With the math being done up front, I already know the profitable markets that should make me 20% or more. So, for every 10g I invest, I should be getting around 12g back…..100g =>120g…..1000g=>1200g…..and so on.

As long as when I’m done with a cycle, I have more money than I started with, I’m fine.

No only to mainly 1-25 zones.

That’s because players will ALWAYS try to find the path of least resistance to achieve their goals.

No matter how Anet changed the Dailies….the players will still find the easiest way to complete them to get their reward.

The rewards for the Dailies that people care about are the Karma Jugs and Laurels. Players want to get them quickly, then move on to whatever else it is they want to do. Why do you think the “best method for obtaining gold by playing the game” is running CoF P1 mindlessly for hours on end? That’s because players have found this to be the easiest way to make money.

Wallet Discussion: Depositing gold!

in Suggestions

Posted by: Charismatic Harm.9683

Charismatic Harm.9683

I’m a little torn on this new addition, but only in relation to gold storage. For all of the other currencies, it’s a welcome addition.

I have a “trading character” that I use for the sole purpose of buying and selling things on the Trading Post. This character has my investment bankroll on them and I want it to be limited ONLY to a certain amount of money. With this new update, their personal inventory of gold will be added to the central location for all of my characters. It’s not a deal breaker, but it’s going to take some getting used to as I’ll have to always make sure to leave a certain amount in my wallet and not invest everything when I’m trading. Right now, I can invest every single copper on my trading character….knowing that I’ve still got my safety net in my bank and some spread out across my other toons.

As I said, it’s not a deal breaker, but it does make that part of my personal experience less convenient. My suggestion would be to make the update they’re planning to, but leave gold out of the wallet.

You are absolutely correct.

The part you’re missing is….they’ve already figured out an even faster way to travel than anything you’ve listed above……teleporting.

Asura Gates and Waypoints are a much faster method of travel, hence making horses, cars, motorbikes, trains, airplanes and rockets obsolete….which is why we don’t have them in the game.

Keeping records?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Charismatic Harm.9683

Charismatic Harm.9683

I don’t keep track of any of the items I buy or sell, but that’s because of the way I’ve “programmed” my database.

If my database tells me it’s profitable at the margins I’ve set up….then it’s profitable. I work in high volume markets, so when it “says” it’s profitable, I place as many buy orders at 1c over the current buy price as I can until I’m out of gold. By trading in high volume markets, any fluctuations that occur in the market are quickly averaged out…..just make sure there are enough buyers for the items you’re wanting to sell. If you try and sell too many of them, you may saturate the market and your items will sit there forever (and likely be undercut).

On general checking of overall results…..I’m always in the black by the approximate profit margin % (+/- 2%) that my database is programmed for in the given market.

My advice would be to work on creating a tool that’s flexible and allows you to monitor multiple markets simultaneously. That way, when a market is profitable, you’ll know where to invest. I continually analyze new markets to add to my arsenal so that I’m never in one place too long, but can always go back to a previous market later. Even if your analysis shows that the market you were considering isn’t profitable, don’t delete your work….you never know….it might be a profitable market in a couple of months due to a change made in the game.

Ask yourself some of these questions and they can lead you to potentially profitable markets:

  • What are the things that players want to buy?
  • How many of them are available for purchase?
  • How can I get some of these items?
  • What’s the price difference between the current buy and current sell?
  • How rare is the item I’m considering?
  • How do I calculate whether this item will be profitable?
  • etc.

Once you answer those questions and do the math, you can find out whether that market is worth investing in. It’s a VERY low risk proposition. The only thing you’ve spent is time. Once you start analyzing different markets, you’ll get better at picking different things out. Remember, there are over 20,000 different items that trade on the Trading Post…..that’s a LOT of potential markets you could be playing in.

Good luck and happy trading!!!

Black Lion Trading Co RE SET

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Charismatic Harm.9683

Charismatic Harm.9683

I disagree that the BLTC needs a reset.

This topic has been discussed multiple times, but I’ll give you my reasons why I don’t feel it needs a reset.

As to the “most items sell for 1-3 copper more than vendor price”…..that statement is incorrect. While many items may sell that way, most do not. There are approximately 20,000 different items trading on the BLTC. According to my data, there are only 537 of those items that are listed for sale between 1c and 3c over vendor value. Sure….that’s a lot of items, but it’s far from “most items”.

In regards to the items with buy orders at or below vendor value, Anet has stated that they are aware of the situation, but are not doing anything about it because those buy orders can never be filled due to the “rules” they implemented stating that items can only be sold at a minimum of 1c over vendor value. While it’s inconvenient to see those buy orders, they mean absolutely nothing. Someday, I’m sure Anet will clean up those buy orders, but as of right now, they really have other, more important, things to work on.

Your idea of a weekly reset would not do what you think it would do. It would actually make the economy much more volatile. As it works now, all items will eventually reach an equilibrium point. There may be some players that attempt market manipulation and will see short term profits, but over time, values for items will reach an equilibrium based on supply and demand. Some items have already reached an equilibrium point, while others will take more time. That is the nature of the beast.

As for those players selling items at a loss…..any number of things could be happening. Players could be uneducated. They could just be out in the world and need to get some stuff out of their inventory. Who knows? Either way, it’s their choice to sell at a loss. If they’re uneducated and can’t do simple math, then that’s their fault….not the fault of the BLTC.

TL;DR Reset(s) of the BLTC are completely unnecessary and it is working as intended.

T6 mats going all up

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Charismatic Harm.9683

Charismatic Harm.9683

That’s actually exactly what I think will happen. CoF1 is by a large margin the biggest source of gold in the game. If it ever does get nerfed (unlikely due to ramifications) then the market will start to deflate, you lose ~50% of the gold income but keep the gold removing aspects the same. Therefore gold will be worth more and prices will drop to be in line with wherever the new equilibrium point is.

This will take many months since the initial panic, and chaos will throw the TP out of any semblance of normalcy for at least a couple weeks (which is one reason why the nerf is unlikely). But it will happen.

The market will always naturally settle towards the highest gold making activity. If you can make 2g/hr somewhere but can only farm 1g worth of mats in an hour then naturally people will gravitate towards the 2g/hr activity since it rewards them more for their time. Since less people are now farming the mat for 1g/hr the supply will drop and the price will rise until it hits a point where you can farm 2g worth of the mat in the same time as you could earn the 2g straight up.

The points you’ve made in this post are spot on and illustrate why we have so many complainers about specific items pricing being “too high / too low / inaccessible / etc.”.

Why many of the complainers complain is due to tunnel vision. They think only of the one thing they’re looking at and not the cascade effect of everything tied to it. If you were to select a single item that’s complained about (in this case, T6 mats) and truly try to analyze ALL of the aspects of that item, it would prove to be a difficult task. The sheer number of variables can be mind-boggling.

Yep!!! I bought $100 worth of Gems specifically to use on 3 sets of Sickles and 3 sets of Axes (when they’re released). That way, the 3 characters I play most will all have sets of Unlimited Gathering Tools so that I will never have to worry about running out.

In the future, if they decide to come out with different skins / animations for the tools….I’ll consider getting those for my other 5 characters (depending on how much, or if, I’ve been playing them).

The are completely a convenience item for me and have nothing to do with the skin or animation. I know they’re not cost effective until you gather a ridiculous amount of mats, but I really don’t care.

THE FIX FOR WvWvW Population Issues

in Suggestions

Posted by: Charismatic Harm.9683

Charismatic Harm.9683

As zerorogue stated….I also believe the outnumbered buff is the place to “equalize” team strength.

The outnumbered buff could just be a multiplier at that point…..for example:

Team A = 300 players
Team B = 200 players
Team C = 100 players

Outmanned multiplier:
Team A = 300 / 300 = 1
Team B = 300 / 200 = 1.5
Team C = 300 / 100 = 3

The only problem I see is that a player on Team C could potentially “one-shot” a player on Team A. Perhaps an amendment would be to then divide the multiplier by 2 where the minimum Outmanned Multiplier would be 1. It would then become a formula like:

Where:

  • #(L) = Number of Players from the largest team
  • #(Y) = Number of Players from your team

If ( ( #(L) / #(Y) ) < 1, 1, ( #(L) / #(Y) ) / 2 )

From the previous example:

Outmanned Multiplier:
Team A = (300/300)/2 = 0.5 —> = 1
Team B = (300/200)/2 = 0.75 --> = 1
Team C = (300/100)/2 = 1.5 —> = 1.5

It wouldn’t offer a horribly unfair advantage….but at least the players on Team C could probably compete now.

Edit
Btw….you may want to consider changing the title of your thread. Making the thread title in all caps is against the Terms and Conditions of forum use and could likely get your thread closed / deleted prematurely.

Are you asking for someone to create a tool like that for you? If so, perhaps you should visit the API Development forum and present your idea there. Either someone can help you create one or perhaps you’ll find out that someone else is already working on it.

Sadly, in order to make a tool like this, it would require knowledge and use of the Trading Post API, which is currently unreleased and undocumented. Also, most applications, websites, timers, tools, etc. are being built because the user (player, programmer, etc.) wants something for themselves. I don’t think there are many people that would share your view as to how useful a tool like this could be.

My guess is that if you want this tool, you’re going to end up having to create it yourself. I could be wrong though.

Good luck.

Who controls Copper Ore?

Charismatic Harm.9683

Theoretically???? (because I’m not sure it’s “legal”)

The “rules” against botting state that (as far as I’m aware) you can perform a single action with the use of a macro as long as it requires human interaction to do so. You can’t program a macro to perform multiple actions with the press of a single button.

Keeping that “loose definition” in mind…..

You should be able to program a macro to click continuously while you hold a button down. It performs a single action and requires you to be present to perform said action. Meaning….you can’t just push a button once and walk away from the PC.

I’ve thought about doing this….but I’m unsure if it violates the rules. I think those rules are more to prevent players from completely automating the performance of multiple actions with little to no input from the player. With what I’ve described, you’d have to hold down the button in order for the action to be performed.

shrug If you’re worried about it….don’t do it.
