I dont remember a single classic game thats worth mentioning where you had to grind for anything. Except gear/pets etc. Anything required for progress was given as reward for a task.
Congratulations, you’re now learning what was mandatory in older videogames!
Congratulations, you’re wrong.
That kind of stuff was not mandatory in older games. If I needed an item to progress, I had to go get it. That usually meant running a dungeon or completing puzzles or what-not. I didn’t have to go grind out money over and over.
I didn’t have to grind money to get my weapons in Zelda, or my keys in Adventure, or my power-ups in Mario. This is just dumb.
lol what, yes you did.
- In Zelda A Link to the Past you needed 100 Rupees to buy your bottle. You needed 500 Rupees to buy the Zora Flippers else you couldn’t progress the story.
- In Zelda: Ocarina of Time you needed to buy the Deku Shield at the start of the game for 40 Rupees.
etc…
Tribulation No Death Achievement

I’d have to agree with Wyldkat, out of all the players in gw2 I think only a handful could get that achievement (a handful out of the million players that play gw2). I would consider myself a pretty hardcore gamer, with good coordination. But to do all worlds in one sitting is just ludicrous (granted I don’t lag or dc halfway through).
I could do it eventually, but it would probably require me to play all day, every day for a few weeks. Which I doubt I would care for tbh, unless it would reward me with a precursor or legendary at the end.
Broken down in zones would be do-able though. Still very hard, but do-able at least.

Boombox, Volume, and Shoulders
in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

I seriously agree with the low volume. I have Player Instrument Volume on max and all other sounds on around 25% and I can still barely hear it. Not to mention when someone else plays their boom box I can barely hear it at all.
If I had known this I probably wouldn’t even have bought it. Such a waste of $10,- if this doesn’t get fixed.
EDIT: Someone just played a horn and I went deaf. How the hell do you expect me to enjoy my boombox when another player can just walk by, use the Horn, make me deaf and make me turn my volume down? This is absurd. I’m seriously thinking about writing a ticket to get a refund. :/
I am also waiting for the w2z2 trib mode fix with the checkpoint and the cloud. Planning on keeping 5+ hours available for it this weekend. Really hoping for a hotfix before that. Am not sure how hard it is to cross that final area in trib mode but knowing those 2 bugs upfront is not a pleasant thought >.>
You’ll be extra careful knowing this in advance, but if and when you do die, the run back is a long one. Be prepared

cba to post screeny, thoughts:
World 1 (zone 1/2/3):
Lots of trial and error, I don’t really like it. I probably wouldn’t even have attempted it without an infinite continue coin or a proper video guide showing where all the traps are.
w2z1: Same as world 1, but way too long. One DC or whatever and you have to restart. Also, can’t even go afk or have dinner cause you’ll get kicked for being inactive.
w2z2:
The tribulation cloud at the top of that one structure where you push the blocks to get on the trampoline made me want to quit. If I could have just pushed one block once before he pushed me off the side, I would have been alright, but I kept running up only to be pushed right back off. Infuriating.
Exactly. Probably the worst part ever, this is the sole reason why I haven’t started farming yellow weapons. It was just too frustrating to do all over again. Not fun at all.
w2z3: Best zone yet. Kind of too long for the same reasons I put in w2z1, but the jumps were fun. Hard jumps, and without the random spike traps or pitfalls (there were some, but not as much as other levels). The worst part about this zone was the tribulation cloud though, it’s not fun trying to do a hard jump (on ice) when something so RANDOM is hitting you and messing you up.
World 2, zone 3 is definitely the best one yet. I hope world 3 is more like this one. Less random, more skillful. Way less frustrating, cause then when you die you have no one to blame but yourself.

This would give me an incentive to go for ascended weapons. Stat swapping is amazing and would save so much inventory space, not to mention the doors it would open to experiment with different builds without spending gold.
As of right now I don’t see the need to spend all that gold for ascended weapons to gear 8 characters. So I’m not too bothered with ascended.
p.s. I’m also a Legendary owner.
EDIT: Oh, I misread the part where you need to buy all ascended weapon stats first before you can swap through them. Then what’s the point? I guess it saves inventory space. I wouldn’t be too hype if they implemented this though, would have to spend a fortune to even use this feature.

World 2 zone 2 checkpoint in spikes

It’s a feature, takes away 2 lives so more people buy the infinite continue coin
lol j/k, it’s obviously a bug, I encountered this too earlier. Very frustrating to do 2 parts cause of the bugged checkpoint.

It was too easy!
Congrats. I’ll keep that in mind when I put together TM for the next world.
the death count is probably in the thousands.
Gee, thanks. Now world 3 will be impossible to complete.
Found in Zone 2 World 2.
You may do this in Infantile Mode.
The Chain-Sticks (400 baubles) replace your “Stick” and have longer range. The first hit is slower and hits for the usual 25. The next three hits are a fast chain for 25, 25, and 50 (thanks ZionCypher)!

Tribulation Mode not hard mode
in Super Adventure Box: Back to School
Posted by: Charming Rogue.8071
Didn’t the devs outright state that Tribulation is basically Cat Mario mode? Cat Mario is meant to have very little skill and basically be rage inducing. Seriously, watch PewDiePie play and it you will get a good idea of what Tribulation is supposed to be xD
Or watch I Want To Be The Guy or Unfair Mario or Kaizo Mario.. it’s meant to be EXTREMELY unfair, cheap, and rage inducing – an artificial, overblown, stupidly hard imitation of “Nintendo Hard” games that relies purely on learning where the traps are and following movement patterns.
People wouldn’t complain about the trial and error so much if everyone had infinite lives to begin with. Just like in I wanna be the guy and Cat Mario, etc
So that’s the reason why I can’t buy a Super Hammer from trading post. That sucks, I really wanted one but I don’t want to farm SAB like crazy.
Insta-kill mechanics don’t increase difficulty, they increase frustration.
+1, it would have been SO much better if it would only take 1 heart, instead of 1 life.
Infinite coin is a convenience item. It’s just as “Pay2Win” as infinite gathering tools.
I’m thinking you just want everything handed to you and all those achievements unlocked the moment you step into SAB.
Actually, with all the bullkitten ways you can die in Tribulation mode. (None that require skill, but have more to do with knowing the stage, e.g. hidden lava pits, spikes, etc). An infinite continue coin is kinda a necessity, and not a convenience item.
I don’t care about other players getting 10 extra laurels, I care about the fact that I was 1 daily away from completing it and now I’m at 1/4 again and have to complete it again. wtf anet, fix it.
I played 3 days to get 3/4, thx for wasting my time anet. This is one of the reasons I stopped playing in the first place.
(edited by Charming Rogue.8071)
I was at 3/4 too. Only needed to do 1 more daily. Now I’m at 1/4. Thanks a lot anet, seems like you can’t even do a simple update without kittening something else up.
Use waypoints?
You missed a lot of temporary content. The only fun one you missed was Bazaar of the Four Winds though. That one was amazing.
don’t think it’ll happen, a lot of people probably have already bought multiple sets for their alts when these were first available , making it account bound now would be a PR disaster for them.
Doubt it, they bought multiples so they have them on multiple characters. If the gathering tools are accountbound you’d still have to transfer them each time through the bank.
I got a soulbinded precursor that I’d like to sell though, remove the Account Bound part
Going to gamescom doesn’t even guarantee that you’ll get one. I was at gamescom last year to get the special t-shirt, but they were out of serial codes.
Was one wasted trip to Germany, I didn’t even get to play any new games cause the lines there are 3 hours long. I don’t get why people even go there.
It wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t require tokens to participate. Once you learn the attack patterns the bosses are really quite easy. The dulfy guide also helps a lot. I pretty much did all challenges in 1 go (except for Liadri of course).
lol
While I do agree about the token nerf, it’s hard to get dungeon vendor items now. I don’t agree with you just sticking to Mesmer or Warrior. They’ve given dungeons a more casual route now, sorta like dailies. It doesn’t matter what class you bring, the reward is accountbound.
This is great for me, cause now I get to choose whatever class I feel like playing and just do some dungeon dailies.
The gold nerf is awesome, get more gold for less work (though it’s limited in the farm). The token nerf is awful, they should make vendor items cheaper, or reward more tokens on daily basis.
(edited by Charming Rogue.8071)
That looks awesome, how do you get it?
Just hit 80 on my first character and I would like some advice as to what I need to do to start getting into PvE and how to start preparing for it. I’m an MMO veteran but I’m new to the GW franchise so I really have no idea what to do.
Any advice/instructions would be appreciated.
I laughed when you said “how to start preparing for ‘it’”, because there is no endgame lol
I never get rares from FOTM, except for the occasional lodestone at Maw. I kinda stopped doing Fractals after getting nothing from level 40 daily for like 20 times in a row.
The title you get is the big flashing weapon you can swing around. Beats any old title imo
So what’s the reasoning behind “the great dump”? Is it just a bunch of casual players who don’t watch the market, and assume price will be highest at the end of the month…for whatever reason?
In essence, yes. It’s basically the less informed people who don’t spend much time with the game just wanting to make a quick few gold, so they “dump” it at whatever the current rate is(even if it stinks).
I always philosophized that “the great dump” happens because people see the price stay at the same price (or even drop a bit) and everyone else panics, and thus selling their skins before they lose all their gold invested.
I like that btw, ‘the great dump’ hehe.. I’m stealing that
The things I find wrong:
-Slowly reaching the point where new things are only in the gem store
-Gold/gem exchange will rise up to the skyI agree with this. It’s starting to cost a fortune in gold to get anything from the gem store. I’ve been no-lifing this game for the past month, and was barely able to afford the molten mining pick. Now I’m probably going to have to start selling off my assets to afford the other unlimited tools. I’m not one for cosmetic items, however these unlimited tools I see as more of “max gear” and my character wouldn’t be complete without them.
Gem store items are awesome…I just don’t think I’m willing to put more real world money into the game. Non-paying players like myself are starting to get excluded from a lot of real content, and that to me seems against the Guild Wars mission.
Yes, because $10,- for a molten mining pick is going to make you have to sell off all your assets.
Just don’t be a cheapskate if you don’t like to farm and use real money. You can either farm 5 hours in-game to buy it, or work 1 hour, buy it from the gemstore and do something you actually enjoy the remaining 4 hours. I mean seriously, what the hell is $10,- anyway?
btw, doesn’t anyone else feel that it’s wrong to decrypt data in the gw2 files in order to reveal spoilers for upcoming updates?
wow u can make 5g per hr in game ?
As long as you’re not for some reason morally repulsed by the idea of farming the most efficient area in the game, you can make more than 5g per hour.
heck if u could farm for hrs like in gw1 it wouldn’t be an issue, how do u farm for a long time with DR in effect ? by just farming 1 spot for 5hrs you saying DR wont kick in and you will always make 5g per hr ? id like your version of GW2 please
Yes CoF p1 is a good way to farm gold, which will net you around 4-5g per hour. There are also some other farming spots that are actually even more profitable (which I won’t reveal cause then everyone will be rushing to them and it won’t be profitable anymore, obviously). And about DR…. there are ‘ways’ of getting around it.
Sorry to be so vague, but you know… every man for himself, right?
Had this happen to me like 5x in a row. I thought it was a feature, saved us the trouble of having to run back lol
I just used GS on his kitten no problems here. Illusionary Berserker dies all the time, nothing different in this boss fight.

Well, if by that logic, you could transmute it anyway because you can just get an ascended greatsword and transmute it onto that one. Seeing as if you have foefire’s you would have to do that anyway.
I’m pretty sure you lose it, because you destroy the old item and make a new one in the Mystic Forge.
daily’s or monthly’s, which both can be completed in less than 3 hours of work
I play a game to have fun, not to have an extra job.
This is probably the least grindy game I have ever played, the experience gathering is so organic and diverse it never feels like a grind, and kill the same monster hundreds of times is probably the least efficient way to level.
I don’t think he’s talking about levelling, but more about grinding gold or materials to make weapons (including legendaries)
Yes Bubble Baubles can still be used for the new skins, however, these old ones (Greatsword, Sword, Staff, Scepter, Shield, Bows) will most likely not be available when SAB returns. So I’d advise to spend them now. You can always farm more Bubble Baubles when SAB returns cause world 1 WILL be open again on its return.
I’ll keep this short, I wasn’t going to get a super backpack cause quite frankly it didn’t fit my characters. But now seeing as I can deposit it in the PvP locker I want one for PvP.
Why did you introduce the function to deposit it in the PvP locker AFTER you closed SAB? Cause now we won’t be able to get one…. ever!
It isn’t stopped because people could salvage for runes, it’s because people could salvage for ectos/mats and the devs have stated they do not want people to be able to convert karma to gold.
If there was some way that once you modify the armor you can salvage it only for the upgrades (and of course still destroy the original piece), I would not be opposed to it. I don’t know if it would be possible on their end though.
This would be so open to exploitation though, just put in a cheap rune and salvage for ecto anyway.
I started strong, running the SAB W1Z1-2 with dig spots across my characters. But after a couple days it became too grindy & i couldn’t force myself to do it as often. I could be richer now if I had, but enjoyment is my foremost goal in GW2. That being said, my final totals are
- 1 backpack skin bought with BBs
- 3 weapon skins bought with BBs
- 2 drops that I sold on the TP
- 50 BBs sitting in my bank. anticipating a pistol for next time around so I can’t decide if I should save em or spend em on 1 last skin (since they’ll be gone permanently after today).
Spend. You can always farm more BB when world 2 comes (world 1 will also be open again).
No regrets. Though I am quite bored now. cba to farm another legendary, just takes too long and is boring as hell.
Craft it myself. Got the materials by playing the game and buying them off TP, one by one. And I farmed the precursor by doing CoF path 1 over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over, until I had 600g needed to buy Dusk (I also threw in 300g in the Mystic Toilet trying to get it, but that turned out to be a big failure).
Well that post is only 3 hours old so it was not the cause of this spike which started last night. HOWEVER I suspect that his re-confirmation that they will never return will cause an even larger spike shortly.
It was. Because he posted it earlier too. But I can’t find the post anymore so I quoted this one.
half of the time? 0_o First time I heard of it.
Forge isn’t nerfed. RNG = RNG. Also, making items disappear doesn’t remove money from the economy. It just makes YOU lose money. Not the economy.
Looks pretty kitten accurate. Great job!
The reason why they jumped in price is because Josh Foreman said that the current skins won’t be available in future SAB updates.
