After the massive banwave with the karma exploit I doubt that anyone would knowingly exploit and risk a ban. I wouldn’t want to risk all the time and effort I put in creating my characters over a few hundred golds. Sure it’s a lot, but not worth it.
First I heard about it was a thread on this forum saying: “How to use 1 ecto and make more”, or something. Sounded like a regular thing, never once did the word ‘exploit’ pop in my mind.
Also, the way this guy tells the story is exactly how I would do it too, and I’m against exploiting. Crafting items, salvaging them and then selling them back on the TP is a normal thing and not considered an exploit.
I’m glad I didn’t notice the snowflake thing, cause I would’ve made millions not knowing it was considered an ‘exploit’.
As sad as the story is something tells me he did it more than 100 times or so nobody would say “yea i did it 15,952 times and i didnt think it was bad.”
I would. Considering I crafted a few hundred rares from silk, and sold them back to the TP for profit. That wasn’t an exploit, was it? Made about 50g doing that in few hours. Am I going to get banned now?
Now it’s obviously not viable anymore, it was just a quick ‘gap’ between craft material and the crafted item. Like the guy said, after I did it (and more people caught on) the market stabilizes. This sort of thing happens all the time on the TP, any active TP trader knows this.

And everyone rushing to 1 item (Precursor) is not happening now, because….? Your logic is flawed whether it be lodestones or precursors, it’s all bad cause it’s one big grind fest. I’m all for the scavenger hunt. That being said, lodestones are starting to get out of hand too and should have at least a better drop rate for the amount required to craft a lot of weapons. Maybe make them exchangeable for dungeon tokens.
I’ve managed to complete it few hours ago. Tactic is rather simple:
1. Go through a portal.
2. Run across a bridge, then jump onto the rock ledge on the right.
3. Wait for first patrol to run by, then rush the golem.
4. Burst down the golem while ignoring all adds/patrols.
5. Wipe.
6. Get back on a ledge and wait for patrol to run by.
7. Rush barriers.
8. Pull Asura boss to the gate behind him and kill him.
I did it with a guild group using this tactic, as we had enough damage (and 1 guardian) to outlast the endless mob spawns. Failed with 3 different pugs though. For the people that can’t finish this, I suggest getting some good players together with high DPS and trying again.
If you can afford it, buy it. If not, then just farm the badges/karma, etc, and spent less gold.
It really depends on where you want to spend most of your time, or what you already have in the bank.
I’ll imagine with a new expansion, probably late 2013 (or 2014).
I hope its not a character slot, cause I just bought one a few hours ago for full price!
I think this is more than just coincidence, it’s happening all too frequently lately. As soon as the second to last boss is cleared, they suddenly have to go and you’re removed.
In reality they’re just using the saved progress to invite their friends or guild mates and give them easy access to the tokens, this needs to be resolved and the players that are exploiting this mechanic punished.
That doesn’t work. If the leader leaves the group he gets kicked out of the dungeon himself. As this HAS been fixed. It’s still annoying though that if the leader actually has to go, or leaves too early, that all players have to suffer for it.
I tried this path with 3 different pugs, I have no idea how to complete it. I tried teleport/skipping past the gates. I tried rushing him and DPS’ing him. I tried taking out adds. Nothing works. Adds spawn way too fast and outdamage us faster than we can heal.
I really like to get this path done as it’s the last one I need for the Master Dungeon title.
LOL, idiots. I never care about the professions I have in my groups and the completion time usually lies more in the hands of the players than the professions (e.g. noob players that don’t know wtf to do or die all the time).
That being said, I try to always have at least 1 elementalist in my groups, especially on path 2 at the final boss.
I think the pre-events are kitten . Late at night it’s hard to find a group, but it’s even harder to do the pre-event when everyone is scattered around on servers and you have to defend the bridge alone or with 2 people. That champion hits hard, and if you die you can pretty much do the whole pre-event chain all over again.
I just want to do the dungeon, not do events. Why not just have all dungeons open all the time like AC?
I also run into the same problem everyday.
“Oh I have time for 1 more CoF run before dinner.”
or
“Oh, I have to go in 20 minutes, enough for 1 CoF run.”
Then I get a group together, and we’re about to go in and it gets contested right at that second. We have to defend the bridge for what feels like hours, more often than not I have to leave the group without being able to play the dungeon at all.
I really hate those pre-events.

I’m all for this. I like saving time by paying cash. In GW1 I always payed runners to do stuff for me that I didn’t like. I can do Arah pretty easily myself, but it takes time… now I could pay someone to join them at the endboss and get a full reward? Yes please.
What if I needed a dungeon ‘gift of X’, or want a full Arah armor set and have enough money, why not pay a runner (e.g. someone who already did the entire dungeon for you)?
Also, the more people that do this, the more competition, and the cheaper it will be. The first runners in GW1 made a killing, then prices dropped and it just became a more regular way of obtaining gold. 15g each slot is a killing now, but with competition I can’t imagine prices staying at that range.
As long as people don’t kick pugs to sell ‘slots’, there should be a system in-game to prevent that regardless if people selling slots is illegal or not.
I also probably would do this myself, just have 4 guildies and me run a dungeon, then everyone leaves but 1 person and sell the slots. Then divide the gold equally among the guild members. I don’t care if I don’t get the tokens, I mainly run dungeons for the cash anyway.
Oh hmmm, maybe I did try partying with americans… my bad. Didn’t know that didn’t work.
Most likely just a fluke, Rogue. I mean it doesn’t even allow you to join the party of people on a server in the opposite region, if I’m not mistaken.
My best guess is that you fell victim to one of the many bouts of random disconnects, unrelated an coincidental to what you were doing at the time.
p.s. This thread is 3 months old. Doesn’t make sense to draw a parallel from the first full month of the game’s release.
It does when it’s still happening today.
Making my own builds in GW1 was the most fun I had in that game. Capping elites, making new skillbars, etc.
That’s all gone now. I still like the dynamic combat system with dodging and jumping and stuff, but I still miss GW1. Also… HALL OF HEROES, Y U NO IN GW2?!?!
I had this same problem 10 minutes ago, I wasn’t on an overflow server though. Something to do with cross server connection I think.
No problems joining a group that was on my home server. (I also never had this problem before with cross server)
It’s doable when you meet the requirement. However, most teams want level 80’s because they DO have an advantage. More trait skills, runes/sigils, etc. You might get scaled up, but level 80’s do more damage and can take more hits. They make the dungeon easier and faster. That’s why everyone wants level 80’s, and I don’t blame them. It really is noticeable doing the dungeon with people below level 80.
The developers have specifically said that they will not explain the DR mechanism to players in order to prevent giving exploiters the information they need to circumvent the system.
That said, we as a community have done plenty of research on the topic.
Thank you. That is exactly what I was looking for. And kinda proves what I’ve been researching myself. I didn’t know about the 2 hour limit on the same path, I was wondering why I kept getting DR when I clearly didn’t do that path on a specific character, but I did run the same path 10 minutes earlier on my other character.
DR is getting ridiculous now. I just ran CoF path 1 at 5 AM on character A, got 60 tokens, 26s.
Then ran CoF path 1 at 6 AM on Character B, got 30 tokens, 12s.
Then ran CoF path 1 at 7 AM on Character C, got 15 tokens, 6s.
What the hell? There is an hour interval in there and I still get DR after the first run?!
Can a dev please give a detailed description on how this DR system works so I stop wasting my time?
OneManArmy has it right. From what I understand you can run 4 path’s within 2 hours, then you get 30 tokens on the 5th run (It’s what I just did).
I’m just curious how long I have to wait to get full reward again for a different dungeon, because running other dungeons also gives me 30 tokens. I know it has a timer, but I’m unsure how long, 1 hour or 2 hours? Anyone know?
Nice gravedigging… 2months old
Who cares, the topic still remains, and DR is still an issue for legit players. Even though it’s supposed to be only for ‘exploiters’.
I’ve been hating MF since day 1. They should remove it.
I totally agree with OP.
Especially in point 2. where I agree that more events should be added for better rewards. Maybe even make the dungeon rewards dependant on how many events have been completed within. Thus it would be possible to make (P2 Lavafield) a seperate event, as well as the bombs, etc. I am aware that they cannot be skipped anyways. The reason behind this is that this way, a ‘minimum reward’ could be introduced for completing all ‘compulsory’ events.
I’d also want to include Fractals of the Mist, bonus level. Especially AFTER level 20, it is a drag to ‘rush through it’ because at some point, someone WILL fall and WILL be unable to res himself because of the mobs. Not to mention that entering into battle, being stunned while you jump also contributes to the possibility of falling.
And in general:
I don’t know how many people here are really effin’ RICH, but I enjoy killing the mobs just for the loot I can get. I don’t particularily mind if that is only 20c from 1 [Glob of Glooby Gloo] or whatever, because 10 times 20c are 2s already, AKA my next porting fee. Especially in those parts, there is also always the possibility of dropping Lodestones, equipment, Emerald shards/crystals for crafting… etc.
Alright. Now weigh up those couple of minutes it took you to kill that mob, multiply it by whatever trash mobs there are in dungeons. And then weigh it against the end reward you get, and include in your calculations the time it takes to finish the dungeon would you have skipped all the trash mobs.
I’m gonna compare CoF path 1, cause I like CoF.
Full run
Extra drops from killing trash: ~15s?
Total gold: ~1g15s
Run: 20-30 minutes
Skipped run
Extra drops: None, obviously
Total gold: ~1g
run: 10-15 minutes
Of course these are rough estimates, but I know I’m pretty close to the actual numbers cause I’ve done CoF over 200 times. Now you can tell me if it’s worth it to do a full run, or just do it 2 times (2nd time gives you full gold reward).
huh? Krytan Skin with gems comes in the mail, not from the black lion trading guy.
Is your email full? Delete some unused emails. Sometimes it bugs out when you even have only 7/10 emails.
I died a lot due to this bug from running down cliffs or into large groups of enemies. I still can’t believe it hasn’t been fixed yet. Obviously has to do with the ‘picking up animation’. Dev’s already know about this bug, but have yet to do anything about it. Sigh.
/kneeling was always a way to summon spirits/gods at shrines in gw1. It’s pretty good. I have yet to find a dungeon entrance sadly doing it this way. Was awesome in gw1.
Mesmer is awesome. You’ll regret deleting it. If you really need a character slot, I suggest running a few dungeons, getting gold, converting that into gems and buying a character slot. Levelling a character to 80 is a lot more work than farming the gold needed to buy an extra slot.
Don’t worry about getting karma, worry about getting gold first. Just do the daily and monthly for jugs. And dungeon runs are nice for karma too but not really needed. you’ll have 1 mil karma in no time. Also, don’t forget to use a karma booster when consuming all your lovely jugs.
It’s insane how fast I hit DR these days. I get 30 tokens on my 2nd path now all the time. It’s mind boggling. They should remove it, I can’t even play the game properly. Dungeons is all I do cause there’s nothing else I like (or have a need for), then after 1 or 2 runs I have to wait 2 hours doing nothing for DR to reset.
Trash mobs are just that, trash. They drop mediocre items. Only things worth killing are bosses (which drop silver and bags) and getting to the end reward (26s + 60 tokens).
Anything else I’d gladly skip to make dungeon farming more manageable without shooting my brains out.
Want us to kill trash mobs? Make them drop things worthwhile so there’s a point in killing them and not be a waste of time.

Uhm… I actually made about 30g a few days ago doing the 2nd method (spent about 50 skillpoints). But as soon as people catch on it’s not profitable anymore. Just wait till prices shift and it’ll be profitable again.
Until someone posts about it on the forums, which always happens, making it not work anymore.
They didn’t nerf anything. I just made 2 tonics with 5 tries.
Unfortunately I gambled all my tonics and got a useless accountbound back. Yay for RNG.
I got the everlasting tonic (loving it), but I want the mini aswell. GIVE MORE FRAMES PLS
Dusk is the last item I need for Twilight, and at current prices it will take me several months to get it.
I’m in.
A funny story:
The day that Twilight was put up on the TP was the same day I finished the Incinerator. I didn’t think it was possible either. So the minute I forged my legendary I accidentally posted it for 1 copper to test it out thinking it wouldn’t work.
I freaked out and fumbled for 10 seconds to unlist it but if some lucky person had been monitoring it they could’ve gotten my Incinerator for 1 copper.
From the stories I’ve read I think everybody gets durpy the closer they are to finishing their legendary. I’m pretty certain my mistake is why the Incinerator is shown in the TP results now.
Any ways, it’s possible and clearly intended to post legendaries on the TP. I agree it’s lame though.
LOOOOOOOOOOOL, oh man. In those short 10 seconds I would go mental. The loading screens would feel like an eternity.
Maximus is right. Potentially with a 2g gap, others are more likely to buy it. If you just undercut by 1c, potentially you’ll get undercut as well. With a 2g gap, a lot of potential sellers have to think if they wanna list at 7.99 or 9.99.
This. I sometimes undercut by a large margin just because it will sell almost instantly, and I don’t want to get undercut by 1c.
In GW1 Ecto’s were used as currency, I do believe Ecto’s should, and will play a big role in GW2 too.
Whats weird about defning exploit, as using an unintended system behaviour that allows to skip significant costs of actions due to its misimplementation? Is there any doubt that salvagining said jewelery was an exploit considering it has since been blocked? TBH every single person involved should be banned, just like they did with karma exploit. No mercy this time though.
Don’t think this is fair. As I read the thread about the ecto salvage I was thinking, wow, I need to go do that. Make me some extra gold. I was too late cause it has been fixed already, but never did I even consider it an exploit. Seeing as you had to be lucky to make a real profit, exploits to me are more sure-fire ways to make an infinite amount of gold with no gambling involved (e.g. economy breaking exploits).
(edited by Charming Rogue.8071)
I got 2 on the first try, the 3rd one I got after 10 tries (Spend 7g on getting the 3rd one, stuffing and magic glue skyrocketed ofcourse).

Burn!
Looks like arenanet dodged the question pretty well that prevented them from lying. Black Lion Keys are their biggest income, I figured the tokens to keys exchange would’ve been nerfed a long time ago and found it weird to be in the game at all. Good for them. More people buying gems = more support = more new updates
I like what you’re doing and are trying to help out, but you’re not helping when you say “buy this, cause it will be worth something in the future”. That will just make everyone rush to said item to try and make a profit, thus driving the price up.
What would be better if you told people at what specific things you were looking out for when investing. For instance: “I advise to look at all items that are near merchant value, these are great investments because you hardly lose any gold, they can’t go down in price!”
Or “Look out for low level crafting items, because this item is used for low level armor, and crafting hence since more people are going to play now since the holidays are coming (or for some have already started) = more newbies = more demand for this product.”
Just not calling an item by name. Which will spread out the demand coming from your tips across various materials.
Soon it will be an hour later again with daylight savings.
I miss GW1 hall of heroes. Please add this to GW2!
Legendaries were always sellable. Soulbound on use. I wonder who will buy one for that price though, would be funny if someone undercut with 1 copper haha. Listing fee + tax fee is insane, like 500g for a 9500g sale.
Black lion kits are awesome for getting ecto, I usually get double the ecto from the rares I salvage. But definitely not worth buying with gems.
It’s RNG, it’s a chest, you gambled and lost. Stop complaining.
LOL, I watched it 5 times now. Hilarious. Arenanet best trolls ever hahaha
Do the other skins have the same effects? I wasn’t sure if I should get them, but now looking at the screenshot of the bow, makes me want to get it.
Target the gift by clicking on it before you use your F key, for some reason it gives priority for picking up the gift.
I was running around in queensdale on my level 13, and got 4-5 level 9 skritts. Is your spawn a bug? Cause mine were easily manageable, and look like the appropriate amount.
If its account bound, we should be able to buy the chest like in Halloween. Account bound and random is a disaster. People end up with excess and people end up with none.
Account bound and random is a disaster.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
what? lol, i did it in 3 tries. This one is soooooo much easier than the clocktower. And anet doesn’t have to learn anything, the clocktower was awesome, and this one is awesome. Too bad the rewards are crap when you do it on alts or consecutive times. Only worth doing once for the achievement.
tl;dr I LOVE IT, do more of these jumping puzzles! Don’t listen to the whiners.
Give me an option to turn those damn icons off in pve. So annoying to see nothing but blue markers running around on my map.
My thoughts: “Hey. Another commander.” Then I turn 360 degrees and walk away.
