I hate the rank showing at the end of the match, it literally causes everyone to leave and you end up getting lopsided matches.
I know the average player has absolutely no concept of statistics but good heavens…
Ladies, it’s random. RNG is RNG… etc. If you notice a significant decrease, over a very large sample (let’s say 100-300, to be very generous) over a significant period of time (i.e.: not one day), then you might be on to something.
Your loot being slightly better yesterday means kitten all. It’s honestly such a ridiculous notion…
Actually, it appears you have no concept in statistics. For one, computers are not 100% random and cause anomalies. Furthermore, most people tend to follow a pattern. One person will always get more ectoplasm than another. Pretty much everything in life follows a particular pattern. This causes a dilemma between developers, because they could make an item a 2% drop rate and discover that 10% of the game has it.
Do overtime at work and buy gems to convert to gold. That is the most efficient way to farm gold.
This.
I got 160 gold with just $60.
No need for farming when everyone tries to buy gems with just gold… lol
This is intended to prevent from premade matches destroying the fun of the rest of the game, which is predominately solo.
I think the current system is fine and I am sad it was confirmed to be changed. Matchmaking is always broken in every game, but Guild Wars 2 has done well to keep PvP exciting and challenging nearly every match.
You also don’t face the same team over and over. In addition, you don’t need a full group of 5 to win.
You clearly never played GW1. I mean A-Net had one of the best MMR’s that I’ve ever seen and they just threw it away. No wonder why ppl are frustrated when we go backwards instead of forward.
Actually I did play GW1. I did not like the rating system at all due to “smurfs” that would farm low end teams by playing on another account. Also the participation was quite low, and it became much worse with the removal of heroes in PvP.
Also mind here, I was playing bronze as a protection monk.
I know people are wanting this feature, but it will absolutely destroy the purpose of team PvP. I enjoy having the ability to play with my friends (whether it be a full premade or just 2 of them) and going into PvP and killing full pre made teams with pugs.
If you make a solo queue option, it will no longer be reasonable to join a tournament match with just 2 friends. You’ll have to find 5 people, and most of them will leave if you lose since solo queue is so much better.
I ask you, don’t break the game by adding a solo queue!
I do agree that something needs to be done for solo players, but don’t divide them. The main reason why Guild Wars 2 PvP is so great, is because of the participation. If you split the game like this, one mode of PvP will be participated in far more and everything else becomes irrelevant.

One of the biggest problems with matchmaking rating is people always assume that the players on their team is flat out terrible. I am a top 10% guardian and I go in solo queue in plain gear with the combat healer title and I was consistently experiencing my team saying they got bad players.
I have a friend who is rank 8, but he has 2900 experience in world of warcraft and I frequently play games with him. I don’t find it fair that we should limit the matches based off rank, because rank does not mean everything. It would seriously harm more good than bad, since tournaments are supposed to be team based (wether it be 3 people and 2 pugs or not)
By far this game has the best matchmaking I have ever seen. The matches are near instant, and more often than not you will be matched with people with your same rating.
Play World of Warcraft and experience playing against the same team for 5 matches, and people being carried. It’s so much worse over there, you are seriously spoiled in this game.

Weakness is your friend.
Using it at the correct time can literally break a match. To this day I make rank 50’s struggle with a well timed signet of judgement before a burst.
You want incentive? Try getting top 1000 in this game. That’s all the incentive that’s needed in PvP.
No no no no no top 1000 is freaking easy. I’ve been playing sPVP as necro on EU for only around 4 weeks and I already was at 535 on the shmeaderboards from my solo queuing. I’m not sure how it works but I would suggest that top 100 or 50 is a good challenge. I’m only rank 26 or something around that.
It’s not that simple. There’s far more than 1000 players playing the game and positioned on the leaderboards.
The game works off a match rating, similar to other games. If you are high rank, you should also get another high rank team to team with you. This doesn’t always work, but more often than not it holds true.
Also, me and my friends could argue that getting bronze/silver in GvG and 2900 in World of Warcraft is a complete joke and easy, but the fact the matter is a large majority of the game cannot achieve the results.
You want incentive? Try getting top 1000 in this game. That’s all the incentive that’s needed in PvP.
You think that a ladder is hierarchy?
People don’t wanna appear on some stupid leaderboard as much as they wanna parade their status infront of others, nobody checks leaderboards and nerds don’t give a crap about them.
GEAR. HIERACHY. PHYSICAL REPRESENTATION OF STATUS
nerds love it, everyone loves it
Then what makes you think people are going to pay attention to people with better gear? I am having a hard time understanding this because, only the top end people have the best looking PvP gear.
There is already a gear incentive in this game, except it is cosmetic.
I don’t agree with this. If you want your team not to leave, then find people who don’t.
It is very difficult to leave a match, you have to completely log out of the game for the rest of the match. You cannot even play alts during the game, because it instantly portals you directly back to the tournament.
You want incentive? Try getting top 1000 in this game. That’s all the incentive that’s needed in PvP.
Wouldn’t surprise me they would release a console version for the next generation consoles, since they are the same processor architecture as the computers we use. All it would take then is a new interface and controls.
Why are people so moved by better gear? It does nothing but cause balancing nightmares and stat inflation.
I don’t think so, because the Karaka queen event is permanent. People won’t go back to it if the magic bonus is gone.
I think it would be a cool idea that whoever used a finisher on you last on PvP, you will spectate them while waiting your death timer go down.
I imagine it will be similar to playing on a laptop. Without having a mouse, I very much doubt you’ll get passed the starter area without dying a hundred times.
Yeah, they put skins in these chests on the gem shop and then there is still the rng factor based into it, that isn’t fair, it might be if the gems you bought were going straight to Anet but they aren’t, they go to NcSoft and who knows what they spend the money on cause it sure isn’t game development when we still have bugs in game that have been in-game since launch, new bugs added with every single patch that don’t seem to get a fix and no one looking into anything like what the players really want just what the corporation big shots wants I guess.
First off, the people making this game are paid to do so. Those developers never get any of the money we spend. They get to keep their jobs, and get potential marginal bonuses.
The management however determines the budget in regards to updating the game, his job is to release the most content for the least amount of money. If that manager can do so, he in return gets bonuses.
If you keep boycotting the gem store because you think the funds are going into games like Aion; then you are seriously mistaken. The second this game loses money, it’s going to get even more budget cuts. And it’s not going to get any more budget, until you start spending money.
You can get anything you want in the gem store with just gold, furthermore it is possible to get the skins without buying anything in the gem store either.
Also realize that this is a COMPANY. Everything they do from maintaining this website, to running servers cost MONEY. The less MONEY a company has, the less content you get.
You’re not forced to pay anything, enjoy the game and buy the skins if you want.
Couldn’t they make it just in PvE to cause conditions to increase DPS and decrease in duration once it reaches past 20 stacks?
Or make a code that converts 25 bleeds into a Deep Wound, which also stacks to 25 (and can be cleansed at once) but is equivalent to 25 stacks of bleeding? The damage would be the median of the bleeds applied. This would allow a maximum of 625 stacks of bleeding.
They can’t simply make conditions hit harder and last less because of balance issues. So they’re only bet honestly is using the two solutions above.

Cast Bars? Why would you need this?
So you can dodge that MOA you should have seen the Mesmer cast?
So you can dodge that warrior charge?
Try deleting the “Local.dat” located in Documents, under Guild Wars 2.
If not everyone is experiencing this issue, as a technician I can only assume that it’s related to the local settings in some way.
They already have something like this implemented, there’s less stats in PvP giving a “resilience”.
Also, there are a few skills that have PvP only versions, such as “Save Yourselfs!”
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Save_Yourselves
The problem is WvWvW, since it runs in a PvE setting nerfs can happen because of it.
I can’t believe people are going against buying gems because it’s going to another company. That’s just flat out ridiculous, regardless if Korea has 80% of the market share for this game; it is still inherently western.
Furthermore, refusing to buy gems only makes it worse were they cut funding and less content comes out.
I don’t care who my money goes to, as long as they provide content updates. However, I will agree that their updates are quite lack luster and they need to work on making more quality content.
Another quick question regarding this blog post: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/introducing-changes-to-the-pvp-leaderboards/
Are the changes live now, or do we have to wait for the next week’s update?
I was wondering the exact same, it appears they already announced the changes. However, there is no clarification if they are already live or not.
I actually like the current map rotation, please keep it the same. I don’t like having a different map every hour or so like World of Warcraft.
I thought Overflows were used to combat culling?
Who told you that WvWvW was PvP?
I find it funny with the posting pictures of Dusk and Twilight. As if the special effects wasn’t enough.
I’m playing soloQ in top100-200. I always get matched with r1-10 ppl. This is not matchmaking for me. A player that is under rank 10 could never be on my rating, and this is not rank-racism at all. When I search after this ppl I find them in the 60 – 80 % range.
Those rank 1-10 players evidently have the same matchmaking rating as you.
If everything is set to best performance and you are getting a framrate that low, something is seriously wrong. I would reinstall the operating system and not even attempt to overclock (since that may be causing the bad framerate)
For those who don’t know why the mechanic exists, and how other games will simply not even let you buy an item if you can’t attain it twice…
Guild wars 2 has a feature where the majority of all items are account bound, giving you the ability to play on any character you want and earn gear for another alt.
If they were to prevent you from buying the same ring twice for example, it would cause troubles for those who use the feature on transferring items between alts on the same account.
This is why there is no warning, because of there was people would assume that because it can only be obtained once, they couldn’t send it to their alt either,
I know how upsetting it can be, but you can’t be stating the game didn’t think things out properly, because it did. There’s a reason why you can buy the same ring twice… it wasn’t bad development.
I agree with this post. I have enough gold to buy the book to give me commander, but I have no clue about how world versus world works in general. It would male much more sense to have someone earn the commander ability with several thousand worth of badges and not gold.
Gold is relatively easy to earn for those who invest for a living, such as myself. In my server we have a problem were there aren’t enough commanders when we are losing.
This game needs a major overhaul when it comes to guilds. You basically know nothing inside a guild… its really hard to even know if the same person is playing a different character.
Yes. You are able to transmute ascended items and retain the skins of other back pack items.
I have personally skipped world completion entirely, knowing that I can’t accomplish anything unless I finish WvWvw first.
I wish they would change it, exploring is quite fun but its frustrating youll never complete It until you happen to explore WvWvW.
People are more likely to spend more money on a product they enjoy, rather than being forced upon it. There are several hundreds of players who have spent over $500 on this game simply because they have the money and enjoy the game.
I have also spent quite a bit of money on this game, I wouldn’t have spent nearly as much if this was subscription based; in fact I would have likely quit. I have taken a few breaks from this game, but the fact that I’m not continually paying for it is what brings me back.
Unlike Rift, world of warcraft and everything else… it is possible to quit and return back without getting your expectations shot because you paid for another month you didn’t use.
I remember when 1 bitcoin was $10.
It’s a shame I didn’t invest in them when they first came out…
I having more troubles figuring out was has changed as to opposed to what is missing.
I have no clue how this living story works and it appears to add nothing more than themed dynamic events, I have no clue where this story is or what its about… and every NPC is useless.
Nice Try.
But your photo editing skills could use a little work.
Lol, it amazes me how much trouble people go through just to fake things.
There’s no need to even photo edit to spoof gold.
You could make a pointer to the memory stored in the ram and change it to some outrageous value.
It would display in the client just fine, you could take a screenshot then and it would look perfectly legitimate.

Hmm… I guess I can see where some of the hate is coming from…
I’m not actually bragging or anything of malicious intent, sorry if it came off like that.
I Just want some idea to spent some of my gold…
Investing.
It’s simple.
You take a large sum of gold and buy something.
The markets prices raise up.
You sell the product
You have just made more gold.
There’s no such thing as “Nothing to do” with money.
That makes sense on paper but doesn’t work well in practice…
If ur buying up supply with the intent to sell, then these supply will eventually be reintroduce to the market. Eventually, the artificial price will be plummet as people undercut and supply is reintroduced faster than demand. This is often the case unless you feed the market very slowly, in which case, it would not be efficient at all(unless it is something like precursor, which carries its own risks).
No, you buy something and hold onto until the market rises. A perfect example is when the ectoplasm in the game was 25s, if you invested in hundreds of exctoplasm you would have made a fortune selling them for 40s in the future.
Also, Guild Wars classic had the same result. there was a time where a new farming method game out and dropped ectoplasm to 5.5 platinum. I invested in a ton of ectoplasm and ended up selling hundreds of ectoplasm for 7 platinum.
The way to make money is virtually the same in every game. You need money to make money, and the biggest profits are made by holding something until the price rises and you sell it.
Contrary to popular belief, you very rarely make money in games by “short selling” the products. (Buying the product and selling it higher within the same day, hoping to control the market.)

There’s no such thing as “Nothing to do” with money.
But … it would make a perfect excuse to brag about it in forum, no?
Precisely.
That is why I referred the stock simulator game, it’s as close to the real world you can get without actually spending money.
The gold in this game is truly valueless, which is why its really easy to make tons of gold.
Hmm… I guess I can see where some of the hate is coming from…

It’s nothing impressive to be rich in this game, there’s so many flaws in the market. It’s also really easy to invest.
If you like to play markets in a virtual world, then I would suggest Investopedia stock simulator game that is available for free. At least you’ll feel like you accomplished something.
The way it’s intended to be done is to bomb in sections, while it may appear to be an infinite spawn of dredge, it’s not. All of those enemies that spawn infinitely are actually just regular mobs and not veterans.
You’re supposed to bomb until you see veterans spawn… then you kill them in sections and then start bombing again. If you continue to bomb the door without killing the spawned veterans, it’s almost a certain party wipe.
People have that perception that because the mobs never stop, there’s no reason to kill the enemies at all.
It’s actually quite surprising on how uninformed people are about the mechanics of fractals, even in the higher tiers. People tend to follow what works for them, even if its not efficient. So when subject to a different strategy, they tend to get arrogant and disregard it.
(edited by Chase.8415)
Aren’t they like 4s90c each? Just sell them.
Feels bad selling ascended level items for under 5silver. Its like merching a fractal weapons that could take someone 500+ dailies to get. We should be rewarded for the time spent in fractals and im not talking about a 5silver kind of reward.
You are being rewarded.
And there’s nothing special about getting multiple rings, so go ahead and sell them. What value ascended items had was destroyed in that update. They’re practically handed out like candy now.
On some level I miss old school MMO mechanics, where everything you owned could be freely traded.
But that was limited to coding at the time. In addition, the games generally ended up having a stronger economy than actual countries in the world. Everquest for example used to be the 130th richest country in the world. People would sell items for thousands of dollars depending on the rarity.

Actually, the next generation consoles will be a huge improvement and a perfect time to start porting games over to. Its going to be x86 based, making ports significantly easier because there is less “learning” when porting or developing the games.
Unfortunately, the consoles indirectly affect graphics for pc games. The money is where the consoles are… so on reality most decent pc games are simple console ports.
