Too much passive combat

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Chewablesleeptablet.3185

I’m talking about traits. Traits should not have been about giving passive buffs when certain conditions were met. Traits should have made certain skills act completely different than their original description and not give someone permanent vigor, regen, might because they crit or get debuffed.

This passive combat requires less skill and makes the game more about finding that cookie cutter build that suits the current meta.

Traits need a huge overhaul. It would be great to see something like having a trait give the ranger’s longbow #1 skill turn into a spread shot for example. OP? maybe. but cool ? definitely so.

Larger Maps

in PvP

Posted by: Chewablesleeptablet.3185

Chewablesleeptablet.3185

The team deathmatch map was just a clusterf because of how small the actual map was.

I think we need larger maps with more distance between cap points. Maybe even add more than just 3 caps .

Dare I say bring back alliance battles? It did have flaws with everyone just circle capping but somehow I believe it will be different in GW2 if certain scenarios and objects that you can interact with are around the map.

PvP can be much bigger than just holding a few points, but I guess Anet wants to cram Esports into our heads before anything else. I am no way a hardcore PvPer so I don’t pay any attention to esports , so that leaves me with a increasingly boring pvp mode.

A question about GW2

Chewablesleeptablet.3185

OP I don’t know what you are talking about. Dungeons are still easy , and are still more rewarding than any train.

Taking away the champ train in Queensdale was a godsend, because the overall player skill was non-existent. Now new players will actually have to learn how to play to get rewarded as they level. Before the nerf it was easy to pick out the low skilled players if they had under 1k ap and were level 80. At least now players will start to learn how to play GW2 correctly(subjective , but hey ANET didn’t really mean “play GW2 your way” in that sense).

I like how I don’t have to use every skill on the skill bar to kill weak mobs like in other MMOs. It is way more boring. Yah , sure pressing #1 to kill the weak mob isn’t very exciting but at least you arent killing your fingers/wrists every time you engage something.

Other games like WoW or Aion you have to use every skill that you learn on simple AI mobs out in the open world just to kill them without losing all of your health. Not to mention the kill stealing or competing to tag a mob before someone else does.

Less is more in some cases and it shows true in GW2’s combat.

Chewablesleeptablet.3185

The living story keeps the game alive. I know the devs needed time off from making content on a bi-weekly basis , but the game gets really stagnant if there isn’t new content being thrown at us.

Season 2 will obviously be better than Season 1 because the devs now have a good idea of how to present content and lore. I personally would like to see more detailed cutscenes similar to the crown pavilion(Lord Faren’s fall :P) , marjory’s entrance, scarlet’s death. All of these cutscenes should be replayable even after that living story sequence is over. Yes you can find these on youtube somewhere but they should be in the game.

So far it feels there is really nothing to do in PvE except the ever so boring train. Spvp has definitely improved with the feature patch but I am getting burnt out.

I wish Anet would give us a bite of something that is soon to come. I am hungry.

It already exists somewhat in Legacy of the Foefire.

Details :

8v8 only

Flag carried to the center gives buff and can be taken away by placing opposing team flag.

Weak NPCs that do almost insignificant damage like the ones in Foefire.

Guild Lord is powerful(chieftain/svanir dmg) and takes more than 4 to kill.

Player respawns are flat and have a reasonable timer.

Destructible doors that are similar to foefire , just meatier and players must destroy at least 2 to get to the lord.

The concept is there from the past.

I do not like having free repairs for WvW. WvW maps are way too small and now zergs can resupply their numbers in 30 seconds or less without having to worry about losing gold. This sounds awesome for those who get steamrolled all the time, but it makes it almost impossible to take any tower that is near an enemy home base.

WvW maps need to be larger. It would slow the pace of full map zergs and give way to better strategy and tactics.

It’s not often I post on the forums or ever, I tend to have a very blunt opinion and once people are offended they don’t use logic or common sense but here goes. This is directed at the people complaining on the behalf of us “foreigners.”

Most of the people that seem to get offended by the concept of Cantha on these forums are keyboard warriors that feel the need to social justice for other people. Stop it.

Do you think the every eastern country, every eastern person is so backwards, so stupid that they don’t know what to be offended over? You think we need -you- to fight for us? We need you to save the day? No? Good.

Nothing I’ve found is more offensive than being patronized like that.

Do you want to know what will get Cantha canceled? People moaning on the forums for a culture they don’t even understand, how many of the complainers speak fluent Mandarin? How many of them even know how to use chop sticks or have ever visited any of China’s provinces?

Sure there might be vocal minority of people from eastern cultures that are overly sensitive to westerners, but you know what? The only people in my home country I know that might even be slightly offended are hardcore nationalists that are racist bigots themselves. They wouldn’t pee on you if you were on fire.

Anyways, that aside.

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Blizzard-WoW-China-MoP-Pandaria,17423.html

^ Was approved by the Chinese government, the biggest cache of poorly done eastern stereotypes that mixes Chinese themes to create the Pandaren, basically what the uneducated think China is.

Cantha had a lot more class than that, we didn’t see any goofy stereotypes, anything ridiculous and yes I know the lore of the Emperor. It really isn’t that bad.

+1 for this. people who patronize others is like how America throws themselves into a war they have no business getting into. It screws things up even worse.

OMG this game has english text I am offended! Seriously, these days everyone is offended by something for no logical reason. Funny how people get offended and don’t do anything about it or cry to some official to solve the problem and make a few laws.

Guild Wars 2 is already a middle finger to various Western cultures yet there is barely an incident of offense. The fact that Christianity/Islam/Judaism does not exist in this game probably offends some religious type people because Tyria has other gods. Do these religious people even play the game???? I doubt it and yet they aren’t trying to stop anyone else from having fun playing a game.

I think Westerners are more worried about the offensiveness of Cantha than the so called Asian countries would be.

GW1 has Cantha…. yet Cantha still exists in GW1 despite the cultural mixing. It is obvious that Asia doesn’t give a crap because it is simply a game. They can ban it in Asian countries if they really wanted to but they won’t. If you think that Asian cultures would start a war just because little old GW2 had Cantha in it you have no idea what you are talking about.

Sales would probably skyrocket if Cantha was added.

How about we have Anet make a poll and send it out to every citizen of every country in Asia to see if they would play GW2 if it had Cantha? See how stupid that sounds?

Let’s take Aion for example. It has a megaserver, but you have the choice to go back to your own world in PvE.

For this megaserver system to be the best thing since sliced bread , players need to be given the freedom to choose either to be filtered through megaserver, or guest to a certain server. What does this mean?? There would be a megaserver and then there would still be what we have right now while players get to choose if they want to be filtered into megaserver, guest, or stay in their home server.

Seems like another money grab. They should have kept the pvp locker and wardrobe separate so players don’t have to spend cash or gold every time they want to change their look.

THe whole “Anet has to make money somehow” phrase is a huge lie. Anet is small and with the Chinese release just around the corner they shouldn’t have any problem with their piggy banks.

I guess pvp players are just going to have to carry around 100 armor sets in their inventory to escape the transmutation costs.

reducing gold income from events and champion loots will not stop the farming.

Trains don’t exist for raw gold income, they exist to find that sweet loot that sells high on the TP.

So what you are really doing is hurting players who do events and explore.

You basically just increased the grind factor. Players do not change unless you completely remove the reward or gate it. Why not only allow one champ loot box per day per account per champion???? That would definitely spread the player base…

You can QQ all you want, the wardrobe wasn’t meant to stock your stats.
It was meant for skins collectors.

I know this. I also carry two 20-slot invisible bags to keep 3 sets of armor stats.

A full armor set DOES NOT take up 6 slots. It takes up at least 13(counting trinkets and weapons because 6 armor pieces doesnt really count as a full stat set).

Wardrobe: another money/gold sink

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Chewablesleeptablet.3185

Chewablesleeptablet.3185

Anet was on the right track with creating the wardrobe for players, but this is not quite what the players wanted, at least for me.

I wanted to be able to stick various armors of different stats into the wardrobe and be able to change my armor build on the fly if I wanted to. It would have been a great addition with the instant trait reset that will be released!

It is too bad, because players are still going to have to carry different stat sets in their inventory cluttering up space that could be for drops. This wardrobe thing doesn’t really change anything for many players who like to run different builds. It is a real shame.

WHAT Builds?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Chewablesleeptablet.3185

You must be forgetting or just being plain ignorant of the rest of the feature patch and what it will do. Celestial gear is getting a 6% buff so healing, condi, base power, toughness etc will be increased……

Builds are not reliant on just stats…. Runes, sigils, weapon selection, utility skill and traits contribute to the build. You could have full cleric armor and run your typical berserker warrior build and do fine. Is it uber effective? nope, but at least you won’t be completely useless.

PvEasy builds??? No such thing since the open world is meant to be a relaxing experience IMO. FotM, dungeons, dragons, and shrines can benefit from having some players that run support , aoe healing/regen, or CC(fotm and dungeons).

Though GW2 has PvEasy, the real challenge is in PvP. If you are too scared to challenge yourself and play pvp then GW2 isn’t your game. GW1 PvE was easy , but the Pvp was in-depth. GW2 will follow with the coming feature patch with the several changes to the game.

So how do we all rate the end of LS season 1

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Chewablesleeptablet.3185

Chewablesleeptablet.3185

7/10 for innovation

9/10 for story (why? the only reason why people would say otherwise is because we only got bits and pieces every 2 weeks. If you look at the whole story it is a good original story)

6/10 presentation and scenarios/events some releases it was solo content , but along the end it forced players to run zergs which I really did not enjoy after the first 10 mins.

Living Story has come a long way. Every 2-4 weeks since Janurary 2013??? That is a lot of content! I don’t see it as temporary content. In a living RPG there will be things that can’t be there forever.

Living World is trying to be like reality and that is what makes it exciting. Why care if the content you are getting only last no more than 4 weeks? You will always be guaranteed more content every 2 weeks! I just don’t understand the problem.

You just aren’t role-playing hard enough if you are mad that it is temporary content.

the only way Anet can fix it is they have offshore servers that chinese players can play. then again that huge Chinese made firewall won’t let Chinese citizens look at anything outside of China.

It really is out of Anet’s hands now, and they will lose any profit since the country that is China owns their own GW2 game and will sell it the way they see fit.

sill doesn’t change the view of Korea and China…if they don’t approve then a petition really isn’t gonna do any good.

Cantha still exists in GW1…………….. If Korea and China were so distraught with Cantha then wouldn’t Anet delete cantha from GW1??? Thats the kind of logic I am getting out of you.

It is not like Anet would start WWIII if they mixed Asian cultures together. If that happens then I would laugh my kitten off. I would laugh even harder if countries involved tried to sue Anet.

People get easily offended these days even when the subject matter has nothing to do with them. Seriously what does Cantha have to do with Korea or China???? Absolutely nothing at all.

Exactly. It seems like they didn’t even try to dynamically scale this knight event. Today I had 20 players fighting blue knight for over 7 minutes and barely a nick in the health bar. I knew it was 20 because that is what the dynamic calibration says.

The dynamic calibration counts down from 50, so you have 30 people calibrated.

A 20 man group has no hope of defeating a knight. That is why it is terrible. I don’t think Anet has a grasp on how many players they have on each server.

If an event is a “group” event, the lowest amount of players required to beat it should be 5. If more players show up then the event should scale accordingly. It is steering your playerbase away from this game.

If you kitten of Anet enough they might bring back Cantha. Bringing back Cantha would need years of development. Why? Becuase Cantha is a whole notha continent.

Are you willing to wait that long?

Here is why it takes that long:

New Story + Characters + NPCs + Events+ Event Chains+ race?+ profession?+ terrain+ music+ scripted boss battles+ dungeons+ alliance battles in the case of rebels against the Emperor = long programming, art designing, lore making, voice acting.

Cantha would be a great expansion, though I don’t think Anet would be up to the task if they were given a short deadline. Players want it now , but that is impossible.

Zerg Wars 2. You can now found your “Zerg” by tapping ‘Z’, zergs have emblems and you can queue Zerg Missions, Zerg Bounty (World bosses!), Zerg Trek (trains!), Zerg Puzzle (living story, be confused en masse!)

That’s really what guilds do in any MMO, it is not just GW2. Raids? just a zerg with one f tank with a bunch of dps and healers for the traditional MMO. So if you don’t like zergs, maybe MMOs isn’t your genre. If you want the same type of gameplay but play solo or with a couple of friends there are dozens of RPGs with the same grind aspects and progression as any MMO out there.

Then again no one is forcing you to zerg.

Being that this is a fictional fantasy game that is not supposed to have much realism (there is magic in the game FFS) I do not see why not. Players should have the right to express themselves visually in an MMO because cosmetics and gameplay is the only thing that matters for the majority.

If a player wants to look awesome with their sweet greatsword and battle bikini then so be it.

You can always go play Scarlet Blade.

Why? Scarlet Blade doesn’t have the same gameplay mechanics and system as GW2. Now if Scarlet Blade was basically the same as GW2 I would recommend it for anyone who wants eye candy and huge breasts.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Chewablesleeptablet.3185

Some players do like to have some solo time in an MMO. The personal story in GW2 was content made for the solo player in mind.

Maybe it could be a way of fighting each elder dragon? Zhaitan is already a requirement to completing the personal story so why not the rest of them? Just make them solo able and repeatable. Give better chances at good rewards if you bring friends.

It seems like every LS release requires a zerg now. There needs to be some variety where you can have both solo-able content and massive zerg content. I don’t think that players will choose one over the other if you design it to where it is more rewarding if you play with others.

Creating NPCs and small outposts with dialogue

Just look at how much has to be done for a new zone to be birthed. Southsun Cove was probably in development before release.

Never. IMO they should lower the level cap. Leveling without crafting is such a hassle if you are working on alts.

There is no logical reason to raise the level cap. If they did raise it I wouldnt be feeling like I am getting vertical progression and feel good that I am getting stronger. I would feel like “aww god , I have to grind again”.

The world of Tyria is huge and if Anet wanted to make new zones, they could be in any level range 1-80. There is nothing wrong with making more level 80 zones, or more level 50 zones and such.

GW2 Heroes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Chewablesleeptablet.3185

Chewablesleeptablet.3185

yup the programming for these heroes would be a monumental task. Yah sure you can have heroes…. just give them 3 years to get the AI right for them.

As if they haven’t done it before?

No they haven’t. Here is why.

GW1 heroes have the same AI as PvE mobs in GW1…. GW2 heroes cannot have the same AI as GW2 mobs because the mobs do not have player skills.

Furthermore. The combat in GW2 is way different from GW1. Good luck taking an autonomous GW2 hero into a dungeon or fractal. That hero will die many times, unless the hero can learn to stack, pull, retreat, and dodge at the right times. On top of that they have to use the correct skills at the right time.

The addition of heroes would also make an addition of more UI so you can have better control of them for combat reasons. This means even more micro and the player base already can’t handle micromanagement of their skills as evidence of marionette , teq, wurm fails.
