High survivability, excellent damage, wanted in groups all the time. Really no cons
more like …. easiest profession
tons of cons. but i guess you don’t know about them because you PvE I assume.
SAB is like the McRib. Some people love it. Others hate it. Some are indifferent.
Some folks want it on the menu year round. Others could care less.
Anet is like Mcdonalds. They hope that through a periodic release cycle, the hype and excitement will be higher for the return of SAB/McRib.
XD
This . its marketing. it will come back. it was there for 30days.
PS: On this same note, pumpkin spice lattes need to be year round , rawr!
…and, for that matter, the Shamrock Shake! Rah!
you guys dont get it do you? The reason why the shamrock shake and pumpkin spice lattes are so good is because they only come around once a year.
If you had Shamrock Shakes for 4 months straight you would get sick of them. You cannot deny this fact because you know it to be true, you would be fooling yourself.
(oh, almost forget she… where is she now ?)
Doing politics stuff, when you get stuck in an office you can’t do much field work.
Which, in a funny irony, means Kiel supports like me just found a way for Anet to write her off for a few months when you put it all together.
yah . Kiel is pretty much in the dark so to speak. If there was a larger story involving Kiel you would have some people getting agitated at the Living Story just like how some people don’t want to see Scarlet anymore, or at least have that story come to a quick and short close.
Is there like a heads up thing in-game that tells players that the LFG tool is live?
It seems like barely anyone is using them or parties are filling up lightning fast. I am pretty sure newcomers don’t have a clue that it is there, or returning players who don’t check the forums or patch notes know either.
Doomsday day worry: game is dead……. >know that not to be true. people who I know that don’t really enjoy the game as much as I do still play(no better game to run to these days, until possibly Wildstar or ESO).
Here you go. The video says it all.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyFcmzoMtK8
They clearly aren’t attacking what I am attacking.
The difficulty of this dungeon is perfect. But, the reward on the other-hand needs to be better.
I got my achievements and now I will probably never do it again, because the reward just isn’t worth it.
This ^
The difficulty and the mechanics of each fight is too demanding for the average player who runs dungeons. The only other dungeon path that is even remotely similar would be Arah path 4.
There should only be mechanics out there that quicken the fight. There shouldn’t be mechanics out there that are mandatory. Sure you can beat the last boss without bursting his invuln, but that would take forever.
Seriously , seriously, seriously guys…..
This dungeon path is only hard if you are not doing what the dungeon asks for.
Obviously if you aren’t going to kill holograms near a generator , you aren’t going to complete the dungeon. So why is the concept and scenario of oozes any different? Because you have to rely on your teammates? Is it so hard to cooperate with your team????
Maybe Anet should make more solo dungeons….. This way we don’t have to rely on the “baddies”.
It is still an enjoyable game. Newcomers will probably like it too.
Many people complain about ascended gear(which is not necessary to do any of the current content except for FotM), but that is probably the only very bad thing about this game. The rest can be balanced and fixed if need be.
The only reason why a player would call this game bad or boring is because they can’t let go of the old MMOs. So jaded that they don’t know what is good anymore. The sad part is that there are champ farmers out there when there is content and events to be played everywhere else. Good luck having fun while not immersing yourself into the game.
Guild Wars 2 has a unique experience as far as presentation of quests/events, combat style(other MMOs come close but not this fluent, I am looking at you Tera), and content updates.
One year later. Lions Arch is still full in my server or servers I have guested in. There are still people in Queensdale(reminds me alot of the pre-searing players in GW1). 19 out of 20 players I run into are respectable and helpful.
Depending on what is going to happen after this Scarlet business will decide whether or not the game is still good. I myself would really like to see new skills, traits, races, and zones. All of which will come in due time.
It is sad that the majority of the players go off of Dulfy’s guide. (which says hit slick first).
IMHO Killing Sparki first is the safest. When you are focusing sparki she wont ignite the oil pools and whoever has the aggro of the ooze can easily do their job.
Killing those two Aetherblades that were in their undies going for a dip was a great offset.
The cinematics for the path also were good since they were much more than two people in a still just yapping back and forth. I especially liked the end cinematic after the boss when all the lionguard rappel down into the shipyard.
As for my favorite run. I was teamed with a bunch of first timers. Before each engagement I explained to them how to beat each boss. We did not wipe until we met the final boss. The run felt so good because the PuGs actually listened.
Now I run into groups who do things differently and I try to tell them my way such as the Sparki and Slick fight. I try to tell them going after Sparki first makes the fight easier but I guess they just want that burning condi on them.
How long should we the players give Anet until they actually do what they promised and add content that would come from an expansion?
So far each living story has not reached expansion properties. They are more like DLC $5 episodes for a steam game. Maybe a hat thrown in there as well.
This game needs new zones. New skills and traits. The ability to use all weapons for every profession.
Its kind of funny envisioning a ranger trying to pick up a rifle and all of a sudden it jerks out of his hands and slaps him in the face.
Have you played other MMOs OP? In other MMOs there is a trinity.
a tank , a heal , and a couple DPS.
Here is how a traditional MMO goes:
Tank just sits there in front of the boss. Healer heals tank. Dps sit at max range and Dps.
HOW IS THIS NOT STALE?
A big argument for this game is risk vs reward.
Easy content gives almost equal or better reward compared to hard content’s reward. The drastic thing for Anet to do is nerf the rewards for the easy content. (and thousands of people would immediately quit the game.)
Another easier way is to buff the rewards for hard content or 5 man instanced content. (this will also make thousands quit).
Anet can’t please anyone. The player base is so split between the elitists and the carebears(sorry , don’t know a more respectful word for players who like to only do easy stuff , casuals does not equal carebear IMO) Of course casuals aren’t going to be able to do lengthy content, that is why they are casuals.
What can Anet do to make compromise? A lot of people like to come on here and complain or say “this or that sucks” , but no one is really saying why or how it could be better.
This leads to Anet having to decide on their own and making more mistakes. Constructive feedback is lacking here.
IF you bring cantha, don’t make us grind from level 1-80. kitten leveling altogether.
Why would you have to start a new char for Cantha?
IMO the only possible playable races that would have starter zones in Cantha would be human and tengu.
Their personal stories would be completely different from Tyria’s personal story and this is what is going to be super hard to implement. Things such as knowing when to crossover to the original story of fighting Zhaitan would be difficult to decide.
IMO I would rather have a personal story where you are rebelling against the current Emperor in Cantha.
If it weren’t for this world being so greedy, new characters would be able to have those new hair styles.
Its a cruel world out there. The funny thing is, you can’t take your money with you when you die! *laughs disturbingly
welcome to challenging content.
once you learn this dungeon it goes by very quickly. yes there are small bugs that can make mobs act weird.
The only tiff i have with it is the destroyed generators in the last boss room. If you touch one it kicks your camera around and knocks you. easily get pinned by a gear that way.
way better than 2 characters flapping lips and giving hand gestures.
If you try to go after Slick first the amount of oil puddles he lays down increases which gives Sparki all the time in the world to ignite just one of them.
Best to just kill Sparki first , staying in melee range so she doesn’t even think about lighting an oil puddle.
Sparki and Slick are so easy.
Go after Sparki first. the one who has the blob aggro simply runs to the oil slicks. Done.
next challenge please.
how can something be fun , but disappointing? If you play for rewards in the form of loot than of course you will be disappointed with RNG.
Its not like they are going to leave that bug in there anyway. Didn’t a hotfix just happen?
thats assuming that there is more than one hologram, but yes that way is okay , but the boss throwing gears all over the place probably would make it harder.
My OP only has one hologram spawn at a time, and the hologram always spawns close by (like the quarter section right next to the one you are in).
Melee does more dmg = faster boss kill.
1: Always have a plan and stick to it.
2: Designate a puller. This puller should have great armor and pull skills.(doesn’t have to be a heavy) engineers work wonders with magnet. (rangers can use axe #4)
3: rest of the party stays close to the boss. The oak hits like a wimp and only does big damage with his hamma fist. You do this so he doesn’t fire all those gears out that mess up the nice floor
4: if 3 is done correctly the holograms will always spawn close by and not across the map.
5: the damage group always stays in between the hologram puller and the boss, while inching towards the hologram. When the hologram is close enough , spike him.
Facts : This boss can be CCed. Only 5 stacks of defiance so the hamma smash can be interrupted and the boss can be launched.
Bring protection, and some condi removal in case of immobi or you run into the odd gear.
This is a great boss. Not a lot of health. Can be downed faster than a path 1 HotW butcher if done correctly.
Thanks Anet for letting me pull my own hair out of frustration over the last boss for TA. It wasn’t because it was difficult. It was because of some players that couldn’t catch on about what they were supposed to be doing.
It was fun though getting to play this new content before I had a slice of my birthday cake.
great suggestions. I’m glad to see that there isn’t one single best build for the celestial stat. Usually when you go through a certain stat set you only have 1 viable build.
I’d cut the writers some slack. These days it is hard to stay away from cliches because now almost every possible idea in modern civilization has already been used multiple times.
Why do I have to go to guildwars2.com to read up on some story? I know it is the easiest and less cost effective way to introducing lore but it lacks creativity in presentation.
It is very boring and only a select few enjoy reading a wall of text( my self included on certain circumstances). It is boring because it is detatched from the game itself. More than half of the player base probably doesn’t even go to the website.
Pretty please. Be more creative and try putting the lore in the actual executable file that is Gw2.exe
I don’t know about you but I think half the players who whine on these forums don’t even play at an honest level of seriousness , or even play at all.
I saw Dragon Age, and Skyrim on the list. HIGHLY overrated games IMHO. Subjective indeed.
Quality Ratings and lists are always subjective. There are games out there that are basically the same thing with just different wrapping. The only real difference is the story. Back then some games were great even without story. Pong anyone?
That reminds me. Tetris… another highly overrated game. I hate Tetris.
Where would Cantha be located on the map?
I know a huge amount of people think having celestial gear is dumb , but I find it interesting.
Shatter builds with stacking confusion sounds nice IMO. The initial power you get from celestial is not bad either.
Any suggestions on runes would be a big help.
There is the problem with letting go of any MMO. You have so much invested into the game that it is just a shame to leave it. Especially if it has a sub fee like WoW. WoW players dare not quit the game forever because it would be hundreds of dollars wasted on a 3-dimensional fantasy land + second life.
At least with Guild Wars 2 you can always come back to it without pulling out your purse/wallet.
I say OP give it a couple of tries. GW2 is the type of game that you can easily jump in and out of. Forget what people say about Ascended Armor because though it may be the best gear stat available , exotic armor is pretty much all you need.
If you get bored of playing with just one char, try an alt. I have had way more fun juggling alts in GW2 than ever.
Yet the game is still a success for you. Since you have played the game, and tried out all content (I assume).
How many hours is that? 60+?
money well spent i would say. Worse games out there that only give 5 hours total game time and sell for $60.
This is ridiculous IMO.
Players not wanting to play because they will miss out on new content? How does that even work? When you log in you will be experiencing the newest content available. What does it matter that you weren’t able to participate in Flame and Frost months ago?
If content was presented like, these players who feel this way in real life, would you really want to go through WWII again, or just know that it happened and thanked god for not being around at that time.
Missing out on things is a part of life. This philosophy goes hand in hand with “Living” story.
By all means complain about it, but I hope it is here to stay. IMO it is dumb to complain because you will be playing new content every time you log in if you don’t get that much game time. It is the players who play 2-3 hours each day who suffer because once they finish that little bit of content it is another couple of weeks until they see anything new again.
This is the problem with catering to the carrot style of gamer.
Once they reach the carrot… they want another carrot. GJ “breaking” the mold their Anet.
Cannot wait to see the first expansion:
Level increase to 90, takes as long as it took to get from 1-80 to get 80-81 and it triples each level!!
New Transended equipment! Only got from World Bosses! Take on the new Shatterer and get a .001% each time to get it!I am extremely confused to what other kinda game exist? All games are carrots on a stick when you boil them down to there bottom lines.
Games have evolved over the year’s and the carrot is no longer beating the game. These day’s the carrot is working towards a goal typically some type of treasure. I really cant think of a single example that does not revolve around some kinda carrot here are some examples.
Mario Bros. – July 14, 1983 – The Carrot was saving the princess
The Legend of Zelda July 29, 1987 – The carrot was simply beating the game defeating the end game boss
Doom December 10, 1993 – The carrot was saving the world by beating the game.
Diablo December 31, 1996 – Carrot was leveling and getting loot to progress your character.
I could keep going mentioning more and more games. The bottom line is there is always a carrot aka a goal to achieve. What the op is saying is he no longer feel’s that goal exist. I can sorta feel his pain right now the thing keeping me in GW2 is my friend’s.
That’s really the point of MMOs. Making friends and playing together. The OP seems to not have friends or people to play with.
Being a part of a community gives longevity to how much gametime you spend. Who would actually play an MMO lone wolf style? That would be incredibly boring. Having laughs and hardships in an MMO community is golden.
OP I think you should try single player games. IMO it seems like they would suit you better.
are you dim witted? Of course Halloween is coming back. Will we see all the events return from last Halloween? Most likely, and there is nothing wrong with that.
OP ,
you do know that the lasers in the game are made of pure magic right?
wait… i just remembered …. blind works too
Thief pistol 5 is op
i giggled. just step out of the tiny black ring.
Fighting is all about what you can and can’t do. It is obvious you can’t do Skyhammer.
wellllll……….. In GW1 there were builds that were hard counters to other builds….. GW2 follows the same suite.
Counter CC with stability or your own CC. Or simply LoS and use condi durations to kill your attacker.
If your opponent is so invested in CC they are going to be slow , high toughness, high vitality. I suggest not doing a 1v1, rather get help from a teammate. There is no shame in that since PvP in this game is “team” based.
1. If you treat Guild Wars 2 like a game then it will be fun……..
2.If you treat Guild Wars 2 like your second job or life it won’t be fun.
3. If you treat Guild Wars 2 like an MMORPG and actually role play in it , then it will also be fun.
4.If you treat Guild Wars 2 like a grindfest and you grind champs all day it won’t be fun.
5.If you treat Guild Wars 2 as game where you think you have to keep up with everyone else it will not be fun.
6.If you grind in Guild Wars 2 …… well that’s just stupid. You grind because you think you have to grind so you will get stronger….. FYI lvl 80 and full exotic is easy to get and it is suitable for everything other than Fotm.
7. The majority of the population do not do Dynamic Events anymore…..
Okay, I play everything in GW2….. Everything: WvW , PvE , Dungeons, Fotm, Spvp , Tpvp
When I play spvp however I am losing time I could have spent making gold or getting loot. So far a hardcore PvP player cannot wander out into PvE land and show off their cool skins they earned. This is a bummer IMO and should be changed. It is probably one big reason why the PvP community is much smaller than the WvW or PvE community.
The only thing that you really can bring over to PvE are the bags and a couple dyes. This is not enough.
The whole skin reward system in Spvp needs to be revamped IMO. For example: armor and weapons skins can be purchased using glory after the player meets the certain rank instead of having to salvage and mystic forge.
So far players are forced to play Tpvp (which is severely synced in solo) to get a couple of good looking skins. Lets face it , almost every armor from rank 1-30 almost looks the same.
The mystic forge in Spvp could be a great way to convert PvP skins into PvE skins. Just throwing that out there. Hell even mystic forge stones could be a part of the recipe.
the best thing about cleric stats is that it provides good power.
More time gating, great.
Yes time gating is boring, but Anet cannot think of a better way to solve farming problems. Lets see if you can think of something better.
I don’t get how some people can enjoy running a champ farm all day. Yes it is good gold and loot, but it seems so boring.
The only reason why I think people would do this would be because they want to get that final piece of gear or skin. What happens after they get it? They quit the game I would think if they are just PvE players.
Anet cannot do anything about this. If they changed it to loot certain champion once per day people would quit because they are so invested and used to this easy stuff. It is no wonder why people say they are quitting. They are getting their skins so fast that its doesn’t even put any stress on the brain at all.
OP
Players like popular builds.. that is why you see everyone running the same thing. A monk profession or healer profession already exists.. its called a guardian. A full cleric guardian can negate and heal other players sufficient enough to be called healers.
A healer only makes everything boring.
Why not have both? Tokens and a chance at the skins in the path ? It is very annoying when Anet announces new skins and they are on the freaking gem shop and I have to RNG them.
I simply won’t buy gems for a black lion key. It is just as bad as a subscription fee. GW2 simply becomes a Job when new items/skins are only obtainable through a gem shop.
There should be 3 ways to getting certain skin maybe even more :
Tokens
RNG
Gem Shop
Crafting
For example: If I want say a Jade Axe I should be able to either craft it, loot it from something, pay for it with dungeon tokens, or the dumb way of Gem shop.
They need to earn money some way. Those people also have families they need to feed.
If you WANT say a jade axe, you spend money to obtain it since it pure cosmetical upgrade and its only fair that they make profit on things like that instead of selling power over other players like some companies do.
And this new skins are available thru playing game. They are giving prestige to skins by making them chance drop, and truth is playerbase is simply spoiled and is always asking for easier way around.
Also, YOU are making a job out of chasing skins. If you wanna look all pretty and dressed up you need to put some effort or spend some cash, plain and simple.
Maybe if they made the game less about the gem shop for new skins they would get way more purchases of the game. $50 from a new customer is better than say robbing an existing customer of actual new gameplay and their wallet. It is no better than a sub fee

Yes.
Making permanent content in the form of a new path for a dungeon is great. It is a good way to let players experience the story on their own time.
