Ok, I’m reasonably convinced I’m being trolled, but sure, one more time because for the most part the conversation has been a pleasant diversion .

We have already have exclusive titles all throughout the game. I have no objection to exclusive titles for specific activities, and think they’d be a fine component of a whole array of rewards for Raiding.

I’d be willing/happy to see some kind of new visual distinction like cosmetic non-speed-increasing mounts much like we’ve already seen in game with the riding broom added to the game and amongst the rewards for successful raiding. This could be exclusive or not as the mood takes the Devs. I would also group unlimited tonics that turn you into the raid bosses in this category.

We’ve seen activity-exclusive weapons skins in game (Fractals) and minis (Liadri). I’ve got no complaint if there were a set of these items added that were primarily or even exclusively raiding rewards. To me its a great way to flesh out the array of rewards Raids might offer.

I DO NOT WANT ARMOR SKINS USED AS EXCLUSIVE RAID REWARDS. Non-exclusive, multiple avenues of acquisition armor skin would be fine. A good idea even, as long as there is also an sPvP and/or WvW way to get them in addition to raiding.

Hopefully I’ve articulated my desires more clearly .

What you’ve said is “I am fine with every conceivable unique reward being tied to raids except armour” what you haven’t explained is why armour is not allowed to be unique and tied to raids (I am not accepting “because I want to dress up in all the dresses” as an acceptable answer – GW2 is not a fashion simulator).

Rerolling to Swamp is pretty exploity, why draw the line at UW and not the reroll? They both are bad and will be fixed when HoT releases.

Ohoni, GW2 is not a fashion simulator – once you come to terms with this fact I feel you will be happier. Right now you’re trying to warp the world to fit a view you hold, your view is not reality and no amount of squinting or arguing will make it so.

You are not owed the ability to try on all the dresses.

There are some skins you will not get, the game is not designed with the goal “everyone should get to dress up however they want.” Legendary Armour comes from Raids, do the Raid or don’t wear the armour – you’ll be dead in 80 years either way.

What about everyone who used Gold → Gem transfer to get a sale item over the last few weeks?

Its an event to let new players get access to a bunch of items – remember new players will have been priced out of the market for Gold → Gems purchases recently, this lets them get access by playing.

I am very unhappy about this also. it feels like I wasted gems

You had the skins for over a year, that’s what your gems bought you.

That probably cost you less than what the grind required to earn enough blooms plus the gold to buy them now.

I only bought them for collection purposes and not used them :p
And collection stuff gets devalued by discounts and alternative ways to aquire them. If anything this stuff should get more expensive over time to reward early buyers instead of punishing them.

Then you made a terrible purchase choice, are feeling buyer’s remorse from that and now transfering that feeling to outrage over this update. You were upset you wasted those gems ages ago (you didn’t use the item) and just want to vent that self irritation by lashing out at anet instead.

Better to hate a company than come to terms with making a stupid choice.

At this point, after addressing the refund issue, and giving a character slot to veterans for pre-purchase, anyone who is still complaining about the base game getting packaged in for free are just being greedy.

Price-per-content is a different story, and maybe my standards are low for content time, but 15 hours or so of fresh content(story, progression unlocks, 1st wing raid completion) would be worth $50 for me. Honestly I feel i got my money’s worth out of the core game in the first 2 weeks, and frankly I find the concept of a lower price tag devaluing someones personal past experience with the game to be absolutely baffling.

HoT should have came with a free character slot for veteran players without needing to prepurchase to get it.

Do other MMOs give you a new slot for an expansion?

Not being contrary, genuinely curious. I haven’t bought an expansion for an MMO since Cataclysm for WoW.

That is just it. Guild Wars 2 was NOT suppose to be like other MMOs. Anet has stated that time and time again. Also their track record for treating their vet players very well has been excellent up until now.

You can make that same argument for ANYTHING.

Do other MMOs hand out tactical nuclear weapons with their expansions?

That is just it. Guild Wars 2 was NOT suppose to be like other MMOs. Anet has stated that time and time again. I want my apocalyptic weapon!!!!!

well i didn’t buy 3 years premium gameplay time… I bought a game under the promise that I own it.

and i’m not kittened you made it free… i’m angry because I feel that this decision on your part should entitle me to some sort of compensation… having my money’s worth…

You still do own core GW2. You can play it until the heat death of the servers.

Did you receive no value during the 3 years of gameplay time? Did you not get your money’s worth? To put this into perspective, I paid $60 for the core game. Heck, I’ll even throw in the $70 i spent on gems for bank slots during the first month. That’s a total of $130. I’ve played just a wee bit over 2800 hours in 3 years. $130/2800 = $.0464… so call it five cents per hour of play. If I never play core again, I’d call that the best value in entertainment I’ve ever seen. I’d not be surprised if my 2800 hours is below average for the player base as a whole.

So, how many hours entertainment did you get for your $50? Was it of no value to you? If so, why are you still here?

I never said it wasn’t…
i said that the content available to me by paying is now available for free… and that if i had known that in 3 years i would be able to get that content for free, i doubt i would have payed for it at the time.

And I hardly see it fair that a person can just get the game now play it for 3 years and get the same amount of content and enjoyment as me for free when i had to buy it in order to gain access to it. (aside from the holiday events and such)

Like i said i didn’t buy 3 years of premium game time… i didn’t pay to have 3 years of content over other people…
I payed to be able to just have the ability to access the game… that’s why i find it not fair that the game is free now…

Anet is basically saying that micro transactions is where the money is at…
Ok, fine…
However you don’t just ignore the people who payed to gain access to be able to pay again for the micro transactions…

They are giving a gift of Core to new players to bring more people to our game (this is good).

Every game decreases in value over time, you knew this 3 years ago I hope, but you wanted to play GW2.

They have kept their staff and servers working for GW2 for the past 3 years and the development years prior – they then sold this development for whatever you bought it for and you liked it so much you’re still here 3 years later.

HoT is £35 with a gift of a character slot and outfit for veterans and a gift of the core game for new players.

You haven’t been cheated you’ve had a team of passionate people producing updates and events for you on top of the time it took to craft the beautiful world of Tyria you’ve spent 3 years playing. Now there is more to see in HoT which costs £35 (an amount you could have saved up for at a rate of £1 a week since announcement).

Your account and characters have gained many things to help you in Tyria over that time and if you really think its not been worth the 3 year journey then I don’t know what more I can say – I don’t understand you as a person.

Anet forcing players to beta test

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Coulter.2315

Coulter.2315

I’m wondering if you think that when HoT releases, this beta imbalance you perceive will magically disappear.

Or will your lament change to being ‘forced to play an expansion’?

Because, even with beta testing, pretty confident some will state the professions are imbalanced come release.

Or is it ok for there to be imbalance, as long as it’s not labeled ‘beta’?

The game will never be really balanced. If it was the idea of “meta” wouldnt even exist; meta being essentially “Whats consistently better than everything else”

That doesnt mean beta content doesnt include stuff that can be outright overpowered, which is definitely different than simply being powerful, such as meta builds.

When its out of beta, the balance will be closer to the rest of the game most likely.

Honestly I think it might be possible theyre purposefully allowing some overpowered content to be played briefly by people who bought hot so people who havnt bought it will want to buy it more.

If the professions seem more balanced (Elite vs regular Spec) at launch, it will be because they were able to test them on the live server, rather than a ‘beta’ server, ‘most likely’.

Regardless, I have no doubt there will be a plethora of threads claiming the Elite Specializations are OP by professions that do not play said OP Elite, and/or players that play no Elite whatsoever.

I am sure the Devs will consider your feedback, and give it the attention it deserves.

Good luck.

If we are to believe all threads and comments that have show up over the past couple of months alone, then for PvP alone:

-Engineer as a whole is OP
-Turret engi pre-nerf was OP
-Turret engi post-nerf is even more OP (my favorite)
-Grenade engi is OP
-DD Ele is OP
-Diamond Skin is OP
-Fresh Air is OP
-Power Necro is OP
-Lich Form is OP
-Minion Mancer is OP (saw this once no joke)
-Shatter Mesmer is OP
-PU Mesmer is OP
-Power Ranger is OP
-Rapid Fire is OP
-Thief as a whole is OP
-Stealth is OP
-Warrior damage is OP
-Warrior regen is OP
-Medi Guard is OP
-Barbecue Guard is OP
-Celestial Amulet everything is OP
-Berserker Amulet is OP

If we are to believe (or at least credit) all of this, then either every class in the game is OP or else people are just going to complain no matter what the topic is. I think most are from frustration; for example, a Longbow Ranger or a Shatter Mesmer is more likely to complain about Thief being OP, while someone who’s no good against Thieves or Mesmers is more likely to complain about stealth being OP.

Yes, I fully expect “Revenant / Reaper / Daredevil / Chronomancer / etc. is OP” threads to appear about 30 minutes after the expansion launches in October. I plan to basically ignore them. The fact that people always complain about everything has hurt the credibility of real complaints over real issues.

>plans to basically ignore
>writes 251 word response

ok

And to everyone else. I have my opinion, and everybody can argue about it all they want.

People can literally post “water is good for you” and people will argue about it. Like when I suggested Gold be shared across all characters, people were literally arguing against it saying they prefer to run to the bank every time they want to get gold across their characters. People argue and reject new ideas by default. So it doesn’t bother me one bit when people say no.

I have my opinion, and I didnt post it to argue.

But you didn’t say “water is good for you” you posted “water is poison and we’re being forced to drink it!” and so people are correcting you. Your opinion was formed without enough thought or consideration of the purpose and method of beta testing – now you know.

how is this even a discussion -.-
if anet needs people to test and dont have enough to do so by their own will, they should do like every other company when needing people to do stuff they dont want to and PAY people for their work time…

and the fallacy of “then they will release an untested product” is even more laugheble. you pay them for their product so it better be tested and ready when it is released because that is what you paid them for -.-

it is really that simple…

Erm… GW2 has a lot of moving parts and buying in enough people to test every combination is ridiculous. Players also are pretty good at trying OP combinations when you give it to enough of them and make for excellent testers.

The MMOs I’ve played have never payed for beta testing because the games are so complex. I can’t beliieve you would aska company to kitten its balance sheet so a minority of players don’t have to play against beta characters (those players are getting early experience fighting the new classes too so from a competative standpoint they are benefitting).

Having a well tested set of things needs lots of iterations, variations and good reporting – opening this up to the whole player base to experience is a very good idea. I have no idea what your motivation is.

Something I forgot to mention: they told us that not all new legendary weapon types will be ready at HoT release (I believe the wording was “a handful”) I have a feeling the new weapon types for each class will be the ones they’ve been pushing to finish first. Staff, warhorn, greatsword, hammer, shield, longbow, torch. If interest is high for the new ones, their old version precursors would also drop a bit. Along with crafting a precursor, it will have a lot to do with how we like the new designs.

There will be 3 new Legendary Weapons released with HoT, with the rest to follow – they’re being tight lipped over which atm though. I kinda agree with you that I would expect them to release weapons linked to the new Elite Specs first.

Teething problems are to be expected with an increase in new players, I guess they could give meta builds to new players (but then that could end up being the only build they ever play – at least if they have to look up a build they can start to understand why its the meta build).

I think patience is the best path, we were all new at one stage and GW2 isn’t too difficult to build with (I’m pretty sure every single Mesmer in the game managed to construct standard Shatter build 3 years ago on their first visit to HotM).

Since you cant opt out of playing with beta content like reaper rev, etc. You can no longer queue pvp without running into beta content.

Personally, I absolutely can not stand beta tests. I dont like dealing with balance problems or bugs. I never sign up for beta tests for anything. Why am I unable to choose to participate in this? I want to pvp without the stupid beta stuff.

Allow us to select whether or not we want to play with beta content forgodssake

So you’d rather the testing was greatly restricted in PvP where bugs and interactions are much more important… You’d rather face bugs at launch? Ridiculous stance to take.

I feel I need to write this next bit because you didn’t consider it.

Fewer players in Beta (from opt outs) means fewer Beta games, fewer iterations, fewer combinations of interactions and less reporting. Less testing is bad, ESPECIALLY for PvP. We want it launched with less bugs and imbalances, right?

Legendary armour concerns

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Coulter.2315

This is a pretty good point, would maybe be nice if they had Profession specific (not a kitten) little touches (would at least give some distinction).

I guess it depends on how easy it is to obtain, are we thinking its going to be about 2-3 Legendary Weapons’ worth of effort for the whole set? I can’t imagine it would be as high as 6 (one per piece).

Hmm need time to think.

I would expect it to be as high as 6. I mean we’re talking about the “Ultimate” armor here. Makes sense they’d make it as tough to obtain per piece as weapons, then release another set, then release a “combined” set that you need both to make.

I mean the goal here is to create these kinds of long term progression, and legendaries aren’t extra stats so there’s no telling. Think about GW1 obsidian, or the 250 stack collection items from EOTN

I just don’t think that a glove is equivalent to a weapon – I don’t think Anet do either you can see this even looking at stats and general effect on your character (an Ascended level weapon >>>>> then a full set of Ascended level armour).

Elite Specs have a design function above and beyond being a Spec to play, they are designed for level 80 significance and a form of character progression.

I’m sure it would be super fun to level as a Chronomancer but the design decison is solid and shouldn’t be undone.

Hey Anet can you nerf Ice Bow yet?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Coulter.2315

Coulter.2315

Why isn’t anyone complaining about meteor shower? Granted the radius is larger, but it does 1.5x the damage of icebow #4 with 1/2 the CD (1/3 if you trait for it).

I believe the quick answer is because you don’t see meteor shower melting bosses in organized groups. If it’s not common, there’s likely a reason something else is being used more often. In this case, that something else is ice bow. Do you think meteor shower should be nerfed as well?

I think it’s because ice bow does its damage in a shorter time so it’s more apparent when you’re looking at the health bar. My point is that ice bow dps isn’t so “above and beyond” everything else that it warrants a nerf.

I think you’re forgetting to multiply by 2 (a second Icebow spawns).

To the people saying Icebow nerf is unnecessary because it only effects Dungeons are forgetting we have Raids soon (I don’t relish the requirement of 5 Eles minimum for burst phases).

Its a very powerful weapon which can even be bugged for ridiculous damage, I would not like it to trivialise Raids (or worse Raids get balanced around it).

Sorry Dist, it’ll still be good for Angz arena ^^

‘Put up with’ and ‘earn’ were nice touches, language really far from fun and gaming. This is why I said it isn’t for you – you can’t even see the fun.

But that’s just the point, for a lot of people raid is not and will never be fun. It just isn’t. That’s subjective, and different people have different reactions. So for those for whom raiding simply is not fun, why should they be penalized? Why should they be forced to choose to either engage in the content that offers them no fun, OR forever miss out on a reward that they want? Who benefits from that negative experience? ANet doesn’t benefit. No other players benefit, aside from schadenfreude. So why force that scenario? Why not allow for players to play the game how they enjoy playing it, AND earn the skins they want to wear?

You aren’t forced to do it. You can live without the rewards.

“Let’s say that the parent provided a meal that the younger child hates, while the older child really enjoys that food. Is it really an equal burden being placed on them to each finish the meal? Or let’s say that the child is mildly allergic to the meal, but the parent does not care because he prefers the older child, so while the younger might cramp down the meal because he really wants that desert, it would cause him to break out in hives. Is that fair to him?”

To some degree neither is right: Not all subjects HAVE to have the same rewards, and being willing to put up with the raid experience doesn’t earn you anything.

There are plenty of rewards exclusive to open world pve that can’t be earned by raiding.

But one has more barriers to entry than others.

So you are fine with the concept and just haggling over price? Well Raiding is the price – pay or don’t pay – its up to you.

My first version of this was too harsh, but one of the advantages of the game to many professionals is that you can play it on an open schedule and in relatively small bites.

I’m happy to prioritize myself away from raids (I hate the way it seems to draw wamma be alpha-males), but I have empathy with the people who get annoyed that the ability to block off a few hours on a weekly schedule is the primary qualifier for special rewards.

This is content specifically designed for people who do have the time to spend in game, I think a lot of people in this thread are forgetting that.

The content is not designed for someone who has only 45mins and no guild to complete.

The is plenty more stuff out there for you, but not this.

They understand it extremely clearly, that’s why they’re complaining!

Lol really?

“I refuse to play this game for more than 45mins at a time and if anyone gets something I can’t because of that I’m going to cry!”

^This is their stance? Cause raiding really shouldn’t be their first complaint destination.

people are complaining because they’re pouring exclusive rewards into content that’s (to use your phrasing, which I was reacting to) explicitly not designed for them. Of course people are annoyed at that.

It’s not a monolithic discussion, of course, but there are some variations. In the dark old days I knew (and I’m sure we’ve all known) people who were hurting their jobs and families because they had to hit the raid schedule.

Now people who make that decision (imo) have some pretty jacked up priorities, but one of the big draws of GW2, especially to older more established gamers is that that decision has never even been on the table.

Now it is, and some people are going to make some bad decisions, and more people are gonig to resent being (in their minds) punished for making the (and lets be honest for it) right decision.

~~~~
I’m sure people would still complain if this were a skill cap, people always complain. But there would be fewer, and it not being a skill cap, but instead being a scheduling cap, reasonably ruffles feathers.
I completely understand and get where you’re coming from about real life having suffered for some due to gaming, I definitely spent a few years a while ago not making the right balance choices with my life.
GW2 though is in definite need of CGC and rewards go hand in hand with that, as it will require some time and dedication to complete (it wouldn’t be challenging if it didn’t) the situation is unavoidable that people who cannot spend that time will not get those rewards.
This is by design and complaining that something other people will love exists because it doesn’t fit with your life priorities isn’t fair – its your life and you decide what to do with it, sometimes this will put you in a different camp from certain other groups (be it photography night, spawning children or going fishing at the weekend).
You know (as you seem experienced in gaming) that the CGC must have special rewards linked to it. They are adding Legendary backpacks to PvP and Fractals and new weapons too (Fractals being reduced in required completion time). There will be plenty to do and get for those who don’t have time for raiding.
Raids were not designed for people who don’t have the time, the rewards are perfectly reasonable given all the other things being offered and the time investment we’re both assuming will be required.
I had no idea how you could run out of Spirit Shards, then I read you tooled out 14 characters in Ascended stuff. Its like complaining you have no money after buying all the cars.
Proper resource management fail.
There are plenty of rewards exclusive to open world pve that can’t be earned by raiding.
But one has more barriers to entry than others.
So you are fine with the concept and just haggling over price? Well Raiding is the price – pay or don’t pay – its up to you.
My first version of this was too harsh, but one of the advantages of the game to many professionals is that you can play it on an open schedule and in relatively small bites.
I’m happy to prioritize myself away from raids (I hate the way it seems to draw wamma be alpha-males), but I have empathy with the people who get annoyed that the ability to block off a few hours on a weekly schedule is the primary qualifier for special rewards.
This is content specifically designed for people who do have the time to spend in game, I think a lot of people in this thread are forgetting that.
The content is not designed for someone who has only 45mins and no guild to complete.
The is plenty more stuff out there for you, but not this.
You can convert stats in the MF anyway, so you can get whatever weapon you want and change it to the stats you want after.
Increasing speed of regen is far less abusable and spikey in its rewards. We don’t want more Feline Graces (though that may come to pass anyway with Daredevil).
Would be a nice QoL addition, but give us Build Templates which swap equipment first if you have to focus on one at a time ^^
Can you play HoT with Existing Characters?
You need to make a Beta Character to play the Beta but when the full expansion releases on the 23rd Oct then you will play it with pre-existing characters.
I think having her as one of the minor outpost NPCs is fine but no real need to get a full story as she is just a regular citizen of Lion’s Arch.
It makes sense for her character to be part of the relief effort with the Pact Airfleet, just helping out the wounded at a camp, having her there just doing her duty.
The Legendary Wyvrn at the end of Faren’s chain is too easily break barred (I’m not sure if the contribution from Slow, Confusion etc. is the problem – boss with large stacks just instantly breaks because of them before anyone even needs to push a CC).
Diamond boss inside the cave seemed bugged – never attacked. The one on top of the cliff seemed better.
Some of the Mordrem spawns for the night defense are happening in mid air and they just float there until the timer ends. These happened in an underground rally point too (is it the underground spawning thats causing a few bugs? Diamond too for example).
Why are people still replying to Ohoni? He has been writing massive posts for weeks because he just likes making up nonsense.
Look at this;
“Let’s say that the parent provided a meal that the younger child hates, while the older child really enjoys that food. Is it really an equal burden being placed on them to each finish the meal? Or let’s say that the child is mildly allergic to the meal, but the parent does not care because he prefers the older child, so while the younger might cramp down the meal because he really wants that desert, it would cause him to break out in hives. Is that fair to him?”
Does this need a reply? Nope, its insane.
Hero point cost on Elite Specs too high
The new skills and traits shouldn’t be earned with the old hero points. Something like a unique quest chain for each profession with LORE would be so much better.
To play WvW seriously you have to be level 80 and play PvE content (at least the first time) and I think a not too long quest chain wouldn’t hurt most WvW players.
I think that would be great, a quest chain explaining about the new spec and how your character gains access to the skills. But its also quite a lot of work with very little replay value – remember thats 9 seperate chains they need to design and make up and a lot of people will not see all of them.
In a world with no restrictions of time I would love it though.
Remember the Story parts have been removed and this section of VB comes after the part we saw in BWE1. You would normally have access to Gliding and Mushroom Bounce by the time you get to it – I think you missing out on those may have skewd your view of the verticality (with gliding and mushrooms its great).
Beta weekend players, HoT worth it or not?
Why so cynical? LS3? I don’t remember previous living stories bringing Raids, a new class, a large expanse on total skills, new trait lines that alter the base class, role necessity, harder creatures, new legendaries, legendary armor, fractal and pvp revamped systems, a new pvp mode (short of Courtyard if you consider that a pvp ‘mode’).
If you don’t think 50 dollars is fair after 3 years of playing the game and many much more time to follow, then… I’m sorry. But even 60 dollar console or PC games don’t amount to many hours of non-social entertainment. I’m not sure where you’re basing your views of “worth”. If you don’t like the game, don’t play it, but as far as content goes, saying its just a new Drytop is simply wrong and deceiving…
I think that after three years an MMO needs a true and real expansion… not this dressed up living story Heart of Thorns nonsense. Its a deviant scheme to squeeze more money out of its playerbase. Also…. price is not an issue…. obviously I’ve already purchased the “expansion”. I have been starved of content and have been dying for an expansion for years now. Living Story wasn’t enough…. so what did anet do…. they cut off content completely… saved up a handful of free releases… and then put a pricetag on it…. It is honestly insulting.
There will be 4 maps, anet have said so. You haven’t played the beta and have false information – your opinion isn’t worth much.
The new area we’ve seen is great – fun dynamic events, gliding is awesome, interesting mobs to fight. Hopefully all the maps will be like this with varied themes and layouts.
The Chronomancer is so much fun, I am sad every day my Mesmer isn’t one yet.
I paid £35 for HoT and got such good value from 3 years of GW2 so far I’m sure it will continue to provide more.
Do you have a source for where Anet said there will be four maps?
Also, I have definitely played the beta…. how does your foot taste in your mouth?
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2:_Heart_of_Thorns#The_Heart_of_Maguuma
4 maps.
“There is literally nothing that would make me want to buy this” sorry when I read THIS I made the assumption that you didn’t buy it – because NOTHING could make you…
I stand corrected on the ‘playing beta,’ I do wonder what the something that made you buy it was though.
No.
From what I have seen, all we we are getting another “drytop” or “silverwastes” type of map. Complete with the absurd amount of busy work grinding also associated with the aforementioned. (which we would have gotten for free in its entirety already the same way we got drytop and silverwastes if anet hadn’t decided to start withholding living story in order to label it as an expansion and sell it to us)
There is literally nothing that would make me want to buy this, and unless anet is just acting like verdant brink is the only map we are going to get to troll us, and we are getting a lot more than a grand total of: one new map, one new profession, the specialization system, guild halls, a few new legendaries… and one raid.
This is not an expansion…. this is living world season 3 with a price tag.
…and I’m already bored to tears with what we have available.
I’ve already got my pitchfork in my hand waiting for the day the expansion releases and everyone realizes the same.
Like any MMO you can take shortcuts to max level, but, if as you say, you choose to take the journey and explore you’ll find there is plenty to do.
