What job do you do Rainshine? Does your job depend on thousands of people being happy with your work at all times? I bet it revolves around a few people who know that you have a deadline.

I work at a newspaper that’s cut its staff by over 200 people in the last two years. (That’s over half of our original staff.) I don’t get kittened at by coworkers, but I do occasionally get stuck with the switchboard and have to deal with the calls of “Why wasn’t this in, this didn’t get it, why didn’t you cover this, this is wrong, how could mistakes like this get through, where are your priorities” etc.

Well, we’re understaffed and we have limited time. When pushed to the limit, appeasing entitled nerdragers with a response would not be my top priority. You guys are also overlooking the fact that maybe they haven’t decided what direction to take tweaks yet themselves. Then you either get an answer that says nothing, or you get an answer that’s later changed and people kitten all over again.

They need to get bugs fixed first. I can see why stories and dungeons take precedent over class tweaks. Once everything we get is working like it should, we may be in a MUCH better place.

Bugs first, balance after you see how classes performed when stuff actually works.

Honestly, throughout the beta, they were, they addressed issues immediately and followed through… I don’t know what happened to that :\

They’re slammed. That’s what happened.

What do you do when they call asking for an explanation? Do you ignore them until they hang up? Sounds like you would be better at PR than Anet is right now. They just keep hanging up on us.

Plus, at the moment we are only asking for some information. A good post about what their thoughts are would be most beneficial.

The warrior is in the right place (Anet said so). Warrior is WAY stronger and better than ele. Ele gets buff. That is a logical and clear train of thought. What job do you do Rainshine? Does your job depend on thousands of people being happy with your work at all times? I bet it revolves around a few people who know that you have a deadline. For all we know, Anet is saving the ele for last (or not at all) which could take months. If we aren’t addressed within a few weeks I’m sure there will be many raging fans… which may not sound like much but they are a huge it to word of mouth sales. Which IS a big deal.

Don’t list these kinds of bugs until we get real fixes…. aw man…. now we are going to get another nerf next week…. Not only are we repetitively told that firing behind us is bad (it’s magic….. why not?) but now this? At this rate they are going to give us another nerf like after BWE2 before we even get a buff….

I’m mostly kidding. Any bug fix is a good bug fix, but what about the negative ones? Huh?!

I wasn’t being sarcastic. That really was the worst bug, because it let eles kill siege through walls in wvw while being utterly safe.

Oh…. wow….. a bug I had never heard of after weeks of sifting through this forum…. definitely most important… more important than build breaking ones. And also, the elementalist is never safe. If another class looks at us we break into a million little pieces. This sounds like a bug that really should have been held off on until more important bugs were fixed.

I play D/D condition/tough/vitality build and I find it to be a very successful (for the elem at least) build. What I DON’T do is stand in front of the enemies taking a lot of damage as the class with the lowest armor and vit in the entire game to stack a few weakness… And how do you hit 1k with LW? Glass cannon builds are very weak and will get you killed in this game. Also note, other classes do that damage with their auto-attacks and they don’t have to worry about dying from a sneeze.

But…. I’m not going to change your mind and you won’t change mine so how about we stick to the topic which is about Anet’s new policy of “Silence is golden”. (Thank you KogarasuMaru… I like it lol)

You have to unequip it first, then you can transmute. I don’t feel that this was a necessary fix but I suppose it can work as a hot-fix for the “naked” bug. I hope they change this back in the future as just ease of use thing. I mean, now my character will spend more time naked than they usually would just so I can transmute my gear lol.

That is all a PvP change and still has nothing to do with the elementalist. They might have effected us but they effected everybody. They fixed two things and you think we should be grateful? Dude, this sounds like fanboyism to the extreme. I want the game to be balanced and fixed but why are we not even getting a word out of them about the elementalist?

If they were fixing bugs before balancing then they would start by fixing the elementalist bugs too. So far all we have gotten were the ones that actually helped us while we still have dozens that effect us negatively so much so that some even ruin builds. I’m at the point where I don’t care that some bugs are harder to fix. 5 weeks in and we don’t even know what they think about all of this, nonetheless have we had any actual bug fixes. And to add insult to injury, most of their bug fixes end up either not working or going backwards… looking at you dungeons for the last two weeks.

Lightning touch is only slightly less useless than before. Good luck staying in close range with a build that makes using LW worth the damage. And I would wager that it will still have issues hitting enemies but if it can hit enemies, it will hit up to 3…. Odds are that nothing was fixed. That air staff skill is still cruddy. Why even use it? It is incredibly weak and still has a HUGE cast time. That pitiful buff doesn’t even matter when I have to decide to change to another attunement or spend 2 seconds casting a very weak AoE attack with a blind. AND what makes it comedic is the fact that we are now just a little bit more dependent on Arcana trait tree…. ridiculous. There can only be one…. build and that involves heavy Arcana investment.

And I don’t see how they are paying attention to tPvP if they are still leaving one class completely out of it.

Being a necromancer would be a great thing because they are getting fixed. I started this thread with this and I’ll say it again. I’m not even asking for a fix at this moment. We deserve one and desperately need one, but all they would have to do to make everyone here so much happier would be to make a long post describing their views on this topic and what they have planned for the future. If you think that they shouldn’t have to do this then please look up business structure. A business doesn’t get a good rep by ignoring their customers for weeks on end.

I ask everybody to try and stay on topic. For now, I, and many others, would just like some information from Anet… and not some insulting paragraph saying that they know about our problems and are looking into it.

Those weren’t buffs…. they were band-aids and they didn’t do anything. I run a pretty tough build but I don’t know how often I ever get in the face of 3 enemies at a time. I’m safe in saying that it doesn’t happen often without a lot of damage being taken on my part. Lightning surge is a dreadful spell that needs a lot more than a blasting staff change. And how could I count other class nerfs as an elementalist buff? Those classes are all still far better than the elementalist in efficiency and effectiveness. I’m not a big sPvPer but those are all problems for that realm and can’t really translate to the rest of the game that Anet said was just as important for balancing.

And I’m pretty sure that it is VERY debatable whether the necro or elem is most broken, but I suppose Anet believes it to be necros. The worst part is that it looks like we will have to keep waiting through patch after patch and wade through all the other changes until necros are perfect before we get any fixes at all. If they want to spend some time on necro first, go ahead. But I bet a post on these forums about their views on this would go a LONG LONG LONG way in repairing trust in Anet. PR has been atrocious of late, as another poster said.

ArenaNet doesn’t owe you or me anything, so please stop crowing from the rooftops what they must do. I’m sure they’re working on the bugs and balance, and you’ll get their insights when you read the patch notes. Sadly just not these patch notes.

I’m glad that you don’t think they owe you anything… maybe you didn’t purchase their product… but I did. I’m a paying customer and they owe people. If you bought a computer part from some company that was promised to work but then got one that didn’t work, would you feel entitled then? The only reason this is different is because of company loyalty AKA fanboyism.

The lightning whip fix looks like a band-aid… and a bad one at that. They couldn’t figure out how to get it to work so they made it with an AoE for 3 enemies and didn’t worry about whip pathing or w/e.

@Zanryu That is exactly what I’m talking about. They are bugs and they deserve to be fixed but why are we only getting weaker? There are plenty of bugs that are weakening us right now that also deserve to be fixed and in fact are noticed a LOT more than these are. I never even noticed that these skills were firing backwards…

So nobody should compare this game to other games? Then why compare GW2 to GW1? They are more different than GW2 compared to WoW. I played all of GW1 as a single player game so population mattered little to me. GW2 also requires a LOT more money to run than GW1 ever did.

I remember seeing that there will be a patch tomorrow (October 1st) and I was wondering if anybody knew what would be in it. I know they will be fixing dungeon stuff but is there any plan to finally throw in some elementalist changes? I know they said that they wanted to take their time but the game has been out for more than a month now and these are very necessary changes.

I’m sorry but I am going to disagree with you, snaplemouton, a lot. The elementalist can’t survive hits as well as other classes even with the extra toughness. And we don’t do anywhere near the damage of other classes. Any class can do what was done in the video except they would have done it better/faster.

Actually, you don’t have to play with them. You can just leave. ArenaNet is losing a lot of players due to these knee-jerk reactions to botters and the like and because of this reaction they released an entirely buggy DR system that nobody should want because nobody has ever seen it work like it is supposed to. But can somebody tell me why they think it should stay in even after it is bug free? What other game does this? If it was to stabilize the economy then why have I never seen another game do this? Don’t they all have workable economies? Botters will still bot and the work/reward ratio will still be very high as they don’t have to do anything to get it, but the legitimate players who might just want to farm for hours with friends or what not (because we have to to get enough karma/gold for exotics) are being punished (not counting the fact that at the moment it is broken. It will still effect people like this afterward).

There are many better ways to fix a bot issue. I still see botters and exploiters all over the game world who were reported a week ago.

Does everybody love Anet so much that they can’t see that their system can only hurt their legitimate, paying, customers? This system doesn’t deserve anybody’s defense. I’ve never felt so forcefully corralled by a game in my entire life. A lot of games do lock-outs and whatnot but this is so obtuse and unnecessary that it glares at you unlike those other mmo systems.

These DR systems are utter insults. If you think it should be there and your only reasoning is that you believe “farming” is bad, then don’t throw your opinion in. Let the people who are affected by it speak. But even then it changes everybody’s loot. I finished my first events in Orr and I got next to nothing thanks to DR… first event. Why did Anet create items that require a TON of karma to get and then just slap us all with DR so we have to spend months to get our first set of exotic… They encourage grinding and they discourage grinding. And don’t even defend it with “get rid of exploiters” because that is the saddest excuse for lazy developers. How about…. you…. wait for it….. FIX THE EXPLOIT. And if you have a problem with people having to farm to do anything in your game then…. you…. wait for it…… get rid of the grind! The farmers/exploiters who are farming for gold or w/e is “messing up” the game aren’t even effected by this because they can just bot through it, but legitimate players are getting punished for this. I cannot believe the complete 180 that this company has made since pre-release. I thought they actually cared about their customers…. but I should have realized that once they had our money they would just quit on us.

Obviously I think mounts are a bad idea. They are never handled well and they are always lore breaking or unrealistic. Where does your mount come from when you want to ride it (btw, it isn’t just wow that did that…. EVERY mmo does that)? Are you a secret beast-master and have trained this animal to stick with you until the end times? What would Norn and Charr ride? Massive moas? tanks? what?

The server size has nothing to do with the number of players online at any given time. It is there to show the number of accounts attached to that server. If it was for each person online then people could move to the full ones when it got late and then the server would be brought down when there were too many people online at once later. And honestly, sure, we don’t have to keep playing and the population doesn’t matter without subscription fees, but say, for instance, that people have started to stop playing then it has a lot of repercussions in every aspect of the game.

Actually Sebulon, that would be a great idea. Honestly, if I was good at spvp, I would just try and keep the ele downed as long as possible. Just do a small amount of damage as they try and heal. This keeps them from respawning and it isn’t like they deal damage or anything…. It’s so sad that that is a viable strategy when fighting elementalists. Having the ability to kill ourselves would only be beneficial to the elementalists…. I feel sad knowing that that is true….

What on earth does any group of people on Earth have to do with this conversation? It doesn’t matter how I, as an American, pronounces these words because it may not be the same to an Asuran. Sylvari pronounce things differently too. Any character on Tyria could kick my butt so who am I to judge?

At this point it is safe to say that you don’t have to “race” to be level 80. I’ve been level 80 for a while and I, at no point, felt like I was “racing”. I just did events and eventually I made it. Too bad there isn’t anything left now.

I’ve been dabbling in some mmos I used to play and trying to progress in TL2 and BL2.

The problem is that they shouldn’t keep the elementalist as a “only for the skilled” class. I love the style of the elementalist and I love a challenge, but it’s just like when they tried making the dungeons harder by giving every enemy more hp. Sure, it is harder, but it isn’t any more challenging and the fun factor is very short lived. The elementalist will get some buffs. Buffs can mean a lot of things though. I personally hope that the first thing they do (besides fix all of our breaking bugs) is to redo the traits to synergize better.

Why is any DR system necessary? Everyone is saying that without this system we would have raid lock out timers. Why? If the goal is that we have fun however we would like to (except exploiting) then why is this system here at all? All it is really doing is shining a light on the lack of endgame content that this game has. “Oh no… DR is up I guess… wanna go do some other fun endgame content…. oh wait….. what other endgame content?”

Plain and simple this system is a safety net for stopping crazy farming when people find exploits that make each run super fast. We are also addressing those loopholes, but that takes time and new ones might always be discovered. If you and your group do the dungeons without skipping large sections and run different chains this system shoul(bugs aside) never impact you.

Addendum for clarity, super fast means < 30 minutes, and even then you must hit that speed multiple times in a row before you start seeing any impact.

Thanks for the reply Jon, and thanks for giving a time. However, my group just did a legit maggs run and a legit AC path 2 run in 25 minutes each. Of course with the bug we all got different rewards but i will post that in the proper forum with times.

They were not death free runs and we didn’t feel like we did them as fast as we could have, so when we bring our “A” game we will basically be waiting in front of the last boss room for 10 minutes to make sure we get full rewards….not fun. But, I guess if the system starts to work like you hope and it takes multiple sub 30 minute runs in a row we should be fine.

I will also be posting links to the 2 runs we just did(as soon as they are uploaded) to prove we did them legit.

Thank you this is excellent info. We would like dungeons to be legit hard enough to take closer to 45 mins but if we can’t accomplish that goal we can look at the speed clear times from non exploiters and easily adjust the system. The goal is that hardcore farmers don’t even see this thing but only exploiters. We will keep working towards that goal.

Finally something I agree on. But it will all depend on how these dungeons are lengthened. As a piece of advice, please don’t increase the hp of anything. Don’t make it technically challenging, but make it strategically challenging. If the difference between what we have now and what we end up with is 2 more minutes bashing on each trash mob group then something went wrong. I really hope that in the end I’m allowed to grind this out at my own pace. This would be different if the rewards were similar to games with raid-lock-outs but I feel that that method (along with DR) is a poor excuse for forcing players to play the way you want when their reward is simply cosmetic gear. I honestly don’t care one bit if some guy down the road can grind for 2 hours and get the gear… it doesn’t give him any advantage. What is important is what he finds fun. (which has been some motto for Anet with GW2 for some time, right? play your way or some such…)

I keep wanting to give this game a shot but EVERY SINGLE TIME that I get on I am more and more upset about the elementalist. I can’t even fight solo in Orr without implementing some kind of tactic that revolves around going down. If I go full glass cannon, I do medium damage and die when an undead lobs its arm at me. If I go full survivability, I do negative damage… and my survivability is STILL crappy.

Just wait. You aren’t even at endgame yet. I would also like to know how those masses of enemies don’t teleport to you (yeah, they do that) and eat you alive. I have had an elementalist at 80 for about a week and a half and I have genuinely given up on it. The elementalist, when compared to any other class with any build, just straight up sucks. Your attack pattern is 14 attacks long and after all of that your enemies may still not be dead. That is 7/10ths of our skills…. You have to press 18 buttons (with attunement swapping) to kill a group. Do you realize how pathetic that is? (not that you are, it is a good combo TBH…) Have you tried another class? My heavily defensive level 22 guardian can do more damage than my ele ever did with full glass cannon build at level 22.

This is ridiculous. I’m done. I’ve been in these forums all day and this just clinched it. I’ll try again in a week and see if this is fixed. I can’t believe the legitimate players are being punished so severely over some people getting worthless cosmetic items faster than others. I’m sorry you have no idea how to design a dungeon so that we want to play it for more than just rewards. This game is going downhill so fast. Goodbye. See all of you in a week assuming that some heads get unstuck and the player base magically becomes important again.

All classes are being thought about evenly, and no preference is being given to one or another, and none are being forgotten or ignored.

Balance issues are never going to be ‘quick fixed’, because there is this thing called meta. If you dont know what it is google it. Jon has stated they want to see how things play out before making changes.
Its more than likely that changes made to classes are in internal testing right now. They may not come out for a few weeks or even a month or two.

Let them decide what is a priority.

You can always go play kung fu panda while you wait if you really hate things that much

2. That analogy stinks. If I had reason to yell at them for doing that before they were supposed to, hell yeah I would. It wouldn’t be my fault they don’t know the proper order of building a house. In fact, I would most certainly fire them at that point. Anet has had months to work on the elementalist but they have neglected it completely. What hope is there when they won’t even acknowledge specific problems with EVERYTHING in the elementalist?

3. The classes aren’t being treated fairly at all times. Have you been looking at the patch notes? Those classes are all getting balance fixes and we are getting next to nothing. Why weren’t their changes being tested for weeks on end? I haven’t seen them wait on making any major changes yet. The dungeon “fix” is a broken quick “fix” that they used to keep people from getting worthless cosmetic gear faster than others. They wanted to keep people from playing the dungeons in ways that they didn’t like and they want to keep people from playing the elementalist altogether.

4. I’m pretty confident that there is no internal testing done on any of this game anymore. Buggy patches that don’t even fix the one thing it was released to fix. That shows some really bad internal testing… they only had to test for one thing…. and it still doesn’t work.

All these complaints of “this is too hard” or “what if I get kicked by my group” are so easily eliminated by simply finding 4 other guys/gals that you wanna play with and PLAY WITH THEM.

I think that has a name…. it is called a PUG…

And a lot of things can happen even with people in organized groups. As I have said before, my real life will always trump some dungeon in a game.

The changes to the dungeons are for the most part good. I love that tokens are account bound now (though not functioning correctly yet: they don’t stack and can’t be withdrawn by other characters), I even love that rewards are given at the end of the dungeon to encourage full playthough. I even love that there are diminishing returns based on the amount of times you run a specific dungeon or specific path.

My main issue is with the diminishing returns from running the dungeons too fast. I have been in groups that have skipped content before – pretty sure we probably all have. However today I ran the 3 pathes of HotW and recieved 45, 30, then 15 tokens. Other players in my group recieved the full 60 every time. And we skipped nothing, we killed every trash mob, even the dogs. It is unfair. It was my frist run of this dungeon in at least a few days so I don’t understand why my rewards were nerfed. Maybe you can apply the DR on a per dungeon basis so that you are just nerfed for the dungeon in which you were with a group that skipped content. And how long is it until your DR fall off? How long am I going to be punished for having been in a group that wanted to skip everything instead of play through it? And if I could find a group that would run the dungeons legitly I would but it is hard enough to find a group right now as it is.

I’m glad that you guys at Anet are trying to discourage running dungeons exploitively just for tokens because it honestly isn’t as fun to play through them that way imo, it is just hard to get groups for dungeons that don’t want to skip what they can to save on time. But you are punishing people who do want to play through them legitly. I honestly suggest reworking the DR to apply on a per dungeon base, because honestly I am pretty sure I am being punished for having been in a group that liked to farm TA a week ago. But now it is messing up my HotW rewards where we worked very hard an skipped nothing. I understand that checking the time it takes to complete a dungeon is probably the easiest way to fish out the exploit farmers, but it is also punishing people who just simply can do the dungeons legitly but quickly. Another suggestion would be to reward the full amount of tokens the first run no matter what and then diminish the reward if the player has somehow been flagged as an exploiting token farmer.

Your entire post sounds like you only prefer these changes because you are in some way more leet than me and many others. What reason do we have for doing these dungeons if not for the tokens? It certainly isn’t “fun” or “story”.

It’s just different and wouldn’t be such a big deal if they could consistently make it a fun process. But when you make doing dungeons worthless for everything except some cosmetic gear and then make getting those REALLY hard or just REALLY time consuming (this is the case) then why do it? I can get equal gear in better fashions that haven’t been nerfed to the ground and poorly patched for a week and I can do it in a quarter of the time if I’m moving slow.

Okay..
I’ll start off by saying that I am a huge complainer and I posted constantly everyday about the last dungeon update.
You can see by going to go look at my posts.

I don’t understand everyone’s anger right now.
They gave us what we asked for.
I am shocked to see that people still want more.

1.) The tokens at the end make perfect sense.
People were exploiting it and only doing first boss for tokens and re-entering to farm them.
-If your party fails and does not make it to the end, that is on your party. Not ANet’s fault.
-If someone has to leave midway, again, that is on your party. Not ANet.

2.) Yes, some people aren’t getting all the tokens, but they already said it was a bug, so clearly it will be fixed.
The important thing is that it changed.
It’s what everyone wanted.

3.) (To the people who are saying it is unfair)
Majority of you speed ran and farmed for your previous tokens.
The new people had to deal with the bug of getting only a few tokens and having to work twice as hard as you did.
In no way should you get mailed more tokens. This update made it fair for everyone.

Now, that being said, I do agree that it wasn’t thought out correctly.
Why are we being punished for finishing a dungeon fast?
So if we have a good team, we’re marked as speed farming or something?

I also agree that things should be tested before going live.
ANet, you left us with bugged rewards for a week.
You guys need to test it before making us deal with it while we wait for the next “fix”.

The big problem (or one of them anyways) is that they are designing this game around people who “exploit” their terrible content design. I keep getting punished for playing the game the way they wanted me to because they can’t just leave it alone or take the time to figure out a smart response to this “exploiting”.

But who knows. Anyone wanna take bets on what bug will be “fixed” in the 10/1 update that is about a week away? I’m probably going to bet on the same, exact, bug that we have right now… You know what…. given all of this new information on how these patches are handled…. forget it, I don’t want them even looking at elementalists. We’ll probably get diminishing returns on attunement swapping that will be bugged and deal 200 damage each time we swap. Then it won’t get fixed for a few weeks.

I am running the dungeons for the gear not for the crappy stories.

Because they want people to do all 3 routes not just 1.

But there shouldn’t be DR on doing different routes, no matter how long it takes.

Forcing things that are not fun on players seems like a great business decision

They are not forcing anyone to do anything, they are just encouraging people to try the more challenging parts.

Yes encouraging me by taking away my choice of how I want to get the tokens.

Is it? Were you here when they were talking about their philosophies and how this game should be different from other games? This is massively different from any of those ideas and has turned into grinding, endgame lengthening, and a chore. A minor issue, such as exploiting a dungeon run for some cosmetic armor (yeah, this is minor), has been blown way out of proportions, but instead of fixing their error filled judgements, they are compounding on them and now that bad judgement call made in haste has seriously impacted the majority of players who never exploited anything.

Honestly I have no idea what you are talking about. They have increased the rewards for the majority of the player base, but granted there IS a bug at the moment which is giving people greatly reduced rewards.

That post had nothing to do with their recent increase in rewards but in their change in philosophy as a game developer. They used to be the “hip” and “trendy” up and comer and now I get the feeling that they only recently realized what really goes into game development (of course that isn’t the case….. I mean… GW1….) and aren’t sure if they can handle the stress. Then they will start doing what every other game company does, going against their player base and conforming to the other games.

@Ref It is just another way to keep people playing their game when they feel like they lack endgame content. If I have all day to run dungeons and that is what I find fun then why am I being penalized for doing so? Any form of DR is insulting to people who put the effort in. What is the difference between my first run and my second run? Am I putting less effort in? Do I get to skip a few bosses this time around? No. So why am I being insulted with less rewards? I really liked someone elses analogy that went something like “Good job this month Jim, here is your paycheck for a hard month of work. Oh don’t worry about that amount, it will keep getting lower as you keep putting more work in. All the cool companies are doing it.” (I might have taken some liberty with the analogy lol)

The “choice” that you have is fake. If you aren’t doing it exactly as they are suggesting with their patches then you are being MUCH less efficient which is a deciding factor when you are essentially grinding.

They aren’t “forcing” us. They are just trying to say “Our dungeons aren’t good enough to attract attention (positive, that is) on their own merit so we had to hustle you into doing the ones you don’t do often to get that gear we told you you wouldn’t have to grind for but in fact you do.” They are very long winded evidently.

@Ref I’m still confused by what part you mean. I guess my summation would be that Anet tells us that all of this content should be about having fun and grinding is bad because it is more about getting some reward for a lot of effort. But now we not only have some hefty grinding for dungeon gear but now if you want to play it fast you will get diminishing returns on your rewards. That aspect of any game is a huge contributor to grinds and lengthening the time that you play the game. It is comparable to raid locking for a week after you do it once. This is a bit more relaxed but it feels much worse because the rest of the game is built around a completely different concept.
