Ok first off op, if EVERY game has dueling, explain to me why Destiny, GW1, PlanetSide 2, and many other MMOGs don’t have dueling. 2nd, it seems to me that you are one of those biased people who does not try to look at the other point of view. Correct me if that is wrong, but that’s what I observed.
Excuse my hyperbole, I didn’t mean to say “literally every game in existance has duels”, but the majority does.
I’m trying but nobody managed to provide feedback other than “because I think people are going to be mean” without evidence to back it up. Read more here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/So-we-re-still-not-getting-duels/first#post5491811 and here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/So-we-re-still-not-getting-duels/first#post5491880.
Your last 5 words are all the reason NOT to have it in GW2, because every other game has it…if you like open world dueling so much, go play those other games. It has no place in GW2, it doesn’t fit the premise of this game nor does it fall into how A.net wants their community to behave…and there have been numerous studies that show open world dueling increases the hostility level and conflict between players/community members. As for your contention that sPvP is to intimidating to new players…that was the whole purpose behind PvP101 on Points of Interest(which I’m sure will return after HoT launches)…and HotM vs the bots isn’t intimidating at all…or people can read the forums, numerous websites, watch YouTube video’s…there’s countless ways to learn PvP…even those custom arenas…or joining a Guild that will teach new players how to PvP.
Well I like this game better, that’s the reason I’m still playing it despite the lack of duels.
Mind sharing a link to these studies? You have the opportunity to shut me up right and here. Keep in mind that we’re not talking about ganking here.
Yeah, people can read the forums, and view numerous websites, and watch youtube videos, and they could allow them to duel on a whim as well.
That’s ludicrous, i’m playing on one of the least populated servers (isle of janthir) and the place is ridden with people.
The day they hand out free transfer for everyone it’s gonna be chaotic.
Most definitely, make it advance slower the more people you have in the same group, 1/2 completion with two, 1/3 with three, etc.
There are as many people against dueling as for it. For the OP it’s a feature. There are reasons some of us don’t like dueling, but it’s been rehashed so many times already why bother?
I’m just having a hard time understanding your point of view, this feature would only affect those interested in it positively while not affecting the rest whatsoever. It’s such a selfish mentality coming from a self-proclaimed nice community, “I don’t want it so we can’t have it”.
Apples and oranges. Business model is an entirely different creature.
I agree 100%
I want to be able to complete lower level maps with friends that are new to the game, and atm i’m finishing them up far too quickly (i’m talking minutes here) and they simply can’t keep up.
Make it slower for me, I don’t care, I just wanna be able to follow their phase.
imagine the increase in toxicity with the increase of elitism. Or even worse, people use it as a way to open world gambling
let them gamble their lives away if that’s their coup of tea, i don’t know how that affects you.
you guys really are blowing this out of proportion, it’s just a duel, every other game has it.
Player A says duel me
Player B ok
A kills BA Man you kitten noob I wrecked you
B If I were on so and so class I would so f you upYea we dont want talk like this in our game
Edit
Even if people can auto decline it, that still would stop certain people running after pesting to get duels asking what they are scared of or name calling em words like the p one for cat
Doesn’t this already happen when you fail dungeons with a pug?
You simply can’t create a cuddly utopia, people are going to get angry and lash at eachother for whatever reason, the jerk who called you out for declining a duel is going to insult you for failing a dungeon or failing to do something as he demands anyway, dueling is not going to have a major effect in that regard.
I’d accept an auto-decline if that was the default choice (meaning those who wish to duel have to turn auto-decline off, those who don’t want to duel don’t have to do anything), not allowed in starter zones, and not possible on the Play for Free accounts (you have to risk your paid account if you wish to be a jerk).
I’m all in for having auto-decline as default.

Sounds like you’re new to the game.
Dueling creates terrible community and ArenaNet wants to keep their community friendly as possible and I’d hope dueling never comes. If you want to get better at PvP then go sPvP and study your skills and learn how to encounter your opponents. Spvp gives you all the tools you need to study and learn your class to the fullest to go against other players.
Dueling creates a terrible community, how did you come to this conclusion? The reason this community is friendly is because the game promotes and rewards team play, dueling or the lack thereof has absolutely nothing to do with it.
I’m not new to the game, but that’s hardly relevant to this discussion.
I already explained why trying to get learn pvp in a tvt environment is a terrible idea, it’s overwhelming, and outright offputting to new players, they need to take in too much information at once, they don’t know why they’re dying or where the damage is coming from, because they simply don’t know what other classes do due to lack experience. So they have a bad time and never return, or simply wait until they have to whole game figured out before jumping into TvT due to their insecurity.
Then again, just like you enjoy a pvp-free game, some of us would really enjoy the ability to duel eachother outside of hotm because it’s fun to us, and implementing this system with the option to auto-decline is the best of both worlds.
A duel is not an kitten (ei peen, god the censoring in this forum is so dumb) contest, it’s a tool, dueling is the single best way to improve your ability to pvp, spvp is far too chaotic and unappealing to new players, regardless of their pvp background.
You give players these tools to familiarize themselves with their class, increasing their confidence and reaction time, and they will use them, which makes it more likely that they’ll try spvp and get more satisfaction out of it.
Especially considering that ANet is trying to push this game into esports, they need every bit of incentive they can find.
Besides all that, it’s a fun feature, who doesn’t want to have a quick duel while waiting for that guy with 30 bag slots who has to clean his inventory after every run.
@Linken.6345 they can just add a checkbox in the option menu to auto decline all duel requests and problem fixed.

What do you understand by duel?
A duel is a consensual 1v1, both parties agreed to the fight. This isn’t ganking or anything of the sort.
This has got to be the first MMO ever without duels that I’ve played, I don’t think ArenaNet recognizes the importance of this feature.
Yes I know you can join a custom game, that’s still bad design, people want the option to duel whenever, wherever they want. It makes pvp more casual, an incentive if you will, to introduce players to the pvp scene without having to commit to spvp.
(edited by Daharahj.1325)
Oh, you’re right the option is right there. Thanks.
I mean i get it, it’s cool, the first thousand times, maybe. But it’s honestly annoying me now, I don’t care that you can outrun a centaur, I don’t care that you can’t keep a good Charr down, I reaaally couldn’t care less about your thorns, please stick to the fighting we have to complete this heart before lunch.
I love the sounds in this game, but repetitive, unenthusiastic, non-immersive and borderline cringe voice acting i’m not a fan of, I think i’d rather keep the game sounds entirely muted at least until I can find a way around it.

I want my character to rotate as my target is moving, regardless of the direction of my camera. I think I phrased it better there.
Maybe it can’t be done, this player might just be very good at targeting and playing with the camera.
At least tell me there’s a way to disable target cancel when cliking the ground.
That turns my camera 180°, I wanna be able to look forward, and kite backwards, if that makes sense.
I’ve seen people automatically turn their character to attack in the opposite direction their camera is facing and kite/avoid attacking the air this way.
How does a man accomplish this.
When I left the game 2 years ago the last thing I knew was destiny’s edge defeating zhaitan, now there are a few new maps (silverwastes and stuff) and i’m still finishing up the living world season 2 series (i’m poor) so i couldn’t gather a lot of backround info about it yet.
The most interesting event seems to revolve around Scarlet, I’m so upset that I missed the attack on lion’s arch, and events leading up to it, oh well.
Flame legion’s still the same, separatists, intact, oh wow Eir has a son, did Rytlock come out to Logan yet?
It’s pretty neat, are there any combos I should be aware off? Unfortunately rune of balth doesn’t seem to trigger a finisher.
Why felines? And not say drakes
Also it doesnt have a 2nd weapon.
(edited by Daharahj.1325)
Yeah, well you need to bring the responding timbre which is minor in beastmastery
Jesus I thought you meant 90% swiftness rather than 90% uptime, lol.
- Bring guard shout, which no longer has a cast time and give 90% swiftness to your party.
Wait what
All same-sex relationship storylines continue after the change
Huh? there are same-sex relationship storylines at all? I never found any
I’m back from a 2 1/2 year break and I wanted to catch up on Charr tail clipping issues :<
I play Elementalist and I don’t like the way they animated Burning Speed for Charrs. They look kinda silly.
AFAIK yes. Otherwise the skill would be pretty useless compared to what it used to be. “Only” your 6-10 skills will be locked after the patch.
Well after the change it will be pretty useless compared to what it used to be, lol.
Will you still be able to stomp/capture while in Mist Form?
Eles currently have only 1 (ONE) viable build, and this build so happens to be incredibly overpowered.
If you’re gonna stomp D/D and cantrip eles into the ground, at least open up some other builds to compensate, there’s a lot of ground to work on for Scepter/Staff skills and a lot of them could use a rework. Otherwise Elementalists are left with NOTHING.
Wow
If this happen they better compensate with increased damage output.
Or make staff viable.
A lot of people (including myself) prefer that there be no trinity, it saves time on making groups since you don’t have to wait for specific classes that nobody likes playing, well, except for a few (monks).
Then how do you explain advertisements like “need 1 more mesmer” or “only warriors”?
The loss of the holy trinity has its pros and its cons, and there are times where the cons severely outweigh the pros, especially when some classes have underwhelming dps compared to warriors or mesmers (aka necros).
Dommmmmmmmmm.6984 No, I’m not currently playing.
Maybe I’m just too used to having gear progression of some sort, the thing that kept me playing ‘til 80 was that goal; reaching level 80. And i made everything possible to make it as slow as possible (crafted every gold item there was for every 10 levels. Of course that’s much easier when you play with close friends and share every material and component, also had 60% of map explored by that point).
But up from that point, the only thing left for me to do was finish dungeons and achievements, and only for the sake of exploration (and skins), nothing that really mattered truly. More tangible goals catch my attention, but that’s just the way I play and of course there’s people who find different things fun. I guess this is more related to what Vayne is saying (my fav champion by the way), I grew used to grindy games sadly.
And when I speak of content, I mean more levels, wider variety of skills (which this game really needs), bigger lore, etc. I don’t know how they’re gonna implement them, but when they do I, and more people like me will come back.
@Mogrey.3891 I only leveled to rank 20 in spvp, and yeah I didn’t do much wvw either, thing is, everytime we went to wvw we’d find ourselves doing the same thing over and over until the month was over (capturing points, points get taken again, follow zergs, spam aoe and watch people die, etc). Eventually it got boring.
I’m more of a PvE player myself, things like lore, crafting and gear/level progression get me playing. Ironically I also hate mindless grind (kill the same mob 10000 times) so the leveling process in this game was just perfect for me.
(edited by Daharahj.1325)
I’ve stopped playing this game about 5 months ago. But even though it was brief, I left with a sweet taste in my mouth, the gameplay, pvp, lore depth, leveling progress, I must admit, and this comes from someone who’s played more MMOs than you can imagine, that this was the best one I played so far, I’ve never laughed and enjoyed lvling up so much going through story quests, puzzles, dynamic events, crafting (this was excellent), quests, and I read everything the NPCs had to say. Simply amazing experience. You can tell that so much work went into it.
But ironically the problem started once I hit lvl cap, my friends and I started going “… well now what?” more often than we’d like to, a GW2 video popped up in my YT feed a few days ago and ever since then I started to miss this game, but then I remembered that even though I enjoyed it, there’s nothing left for me there. Nothing new to discover.
So don’t worry ANet, the population loss doesn’t mean that the game is bad, I mean for some are, but that’s just the minority, I’m here waiting for a major update or patch, doesn’t matter if I have to buy it or not, but i’ll be here to see new events and lore and try to squeeze every bit of gameplay I can.
Lol I apologize if I made it sound too cheesy, but it’s true.
These can help you reach your Crit Damage goal without spending too many resources on zerk gear/air traits: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Plate_of_Truffle_Steak_Dinner. Be warned these are worth like 6s each, I cook mine.
I use Arcane Shield instead of Lightning Flash for PvE/Dungons, helps me finish combos without getting my kitten handed to me or interrupted.
(edited by Daharahj.1325)
Arcane Shield op.
The AoE damage of a D/D zerker Ele is pretty insane, 5k burning speed 3k ring of fire, 1.5k per tick of drake’s breath, 10k fire grab, 3k autos and that’s the max amount of damage i’ve been able to put out without might stacks. All AoE.
This is personal experience mind you, you can run anything you feel comfortable with, but Eles DPS is one of the best when spec’d for it.
Don’t be a noob. Want a video of it? You ain’t worth the time to make a video. I’m too busy DPSing to take a screen shot of my numbers let alone a video. I dare you to disprove anything I just said!
This was a quick test in Orr, no might stacks or food. So Razor’s numbers were pretty accurate, simplified even.
Gotta love smartasses.
(edited by Daharahj.1325)
^
I use full zerker and D/D for pretty much every dungeon I run, 0/30/0/10/30 if I’m with a pug, 30/30/10/0 with premades.
The reason Eles get bad reputation is because people do instances with kittenty builds and deal no damage. I outdps most warriors in my groups and fart might stacks on top of that.
You might wanna bring at least 2 cantrips though.
(edited by Daharahj.1325)
LoL and GW2 both ruined any kind of multiplayer game that isn’t a casual shooter like L4D.
They’re always so… fresh and, what’s the opposite of repetitive and dull?
Roll a necro.
And immobilize is a kitten.
Torches seem to have to the most sense, then again I’d squeal with joy if they ever let us use pistols.
With D/D you don’t even need to go deep into Arcane traits, Air 3 (with Zephyr’s Boon), Air 5 and Glyph of Elemental Harmony seem to do the trick for me.
If you’re using a staff you’ll need some boon duration though, it usually goes Air 4, pop Air 5 and use Arcane Wave inside it, and Glyph of Elemental Harmony.
You don’t need sigils/constant att swapping for perma swiftness.
That would actually be pretty fun to animate.
I used to abuse pre-nerf Evasive Arcana and solo kite/tank bosses endlessly, does that count?
It’s more about knowing “when” to dodge, and intuitively reacting to charged attacks. I was horrible when I first started too (and still am!) but once you get your butt kicked several times you’ll go “oh, so that dash is knocking me down” and you’ll start dodging it out of instinct.
Also latency has a big impact, but you’ll cope. You have to be “in the air” while the skill is hitting you to dodge it.
Tybalt should have been the Hero. Treefern is just so boring.
So
Much
This.
http://atan.deviantart.com/art/I-do-Tybalt-351552871 (description contains spoiler).
Eles are hard to pick up but easy to master. They’re neither OH HIGH SKILL CAP or completely noob friendly.
Deathly* Swarm works oddly for me, I’ve never been able to transfer more than 1 condition, am I missing a trait or something?
I think the issue that cripples Necros the most is that they don’t have access to Vigor, while essentially every other class does. Which is kinda silly given how necros are supposed to be a boon/condition puppetmaster yet they only get access to a handful of boons.
The moment I discovered D/D bunker ele I knew the nerfs were inminent, currently they’re overpowered and noone in their right mind would deny it.
However if they truly are going to butcher our only viable build, they better give us better alternatives, and we should still be able to beat a mesmer/thief/warrior if we outplay them, currently that’s not possible with a dps build unless the skill difference is too big.
