bit off topic but i’d just like to chime in here and point out that one of the larger ranger builds currently (well maybe not right now because of certain bugs? not sure if it’s been fixed) is a trapper build. (at least in wvw roaming, it’s power lb/gs rangers, and trapper rangers)

granted some traps, e.g. thief traps ARE pretty useless, from what i hear

Thats why i put in that i only play PVE ^^ i was thinking there was a large trapper build for WVW but i wasnt sure! Thanks for that though!

Thank goodness you dont have that power. Whining is a good things for the devs too, as it allows them to get feedback on things, sure it might not sound to great, but it is feedback.

Feed back is good if it is done in the right way rather than just complaining about it without giving reason why it doesn’t sound acceptable.

Most of the whining though does give feedback, especially dealing with the new Guardian specialization. It all comes down to to things. 1.) the name is horrible for the class(Which i agree with). 2.) “traps” are at the moment useless.(Im not sure on this, i dont use them…but i only play in PVE).

Mounts [merged]

Posted by: Dante.1763

Dante.1763

What if mounts were not necessary to move (we’d keep the asuran transporters….), but rather opened up new combat strategies?

Also, what makes mounts clutter? If they would just be a cluster!@#% in cities, they can be disallowed there.

It IS possible to have them appear in a way that makes sense, like they’re being teleported in by asuran tech, or only available from stables.

e,
Then why have mounts? If you want aesthetic mounts and only thos i may point you to the gem store, where some already exist; Carpet, Broom, Sonic tunneling tool. Or the gliders coming in HOT.

Combat: Again no, it doesnt make sense in this game. Hell, the developers are moving away from underwater combat, why would you think they would want to develop another form of combat?

Clutter: Do you have any idea how horrible a screen would look if there was a variety of mounts on screen with Charr riding them? it would look terrible. Mounts always look terrible really(to met at least) because of how massive they are. I love riding horses IRL but good god they look horrible in video games, because they are massive, wastes of space. This is not just something that would affect cities. it would affect the whole world. It is to small for mounts, the world already fills stuffed with all the monsters we have to fight.

It is not possible to have mounts appear in a way that makes sense. Nothing in GW2 uses them, until HOT hits and that will be one thing, the Hylek will be riding giant beetles. But you know what else? they will be using one combat model, which indicates to me at least, that GW2 cannot handle mounts effectively, even if they did want to add them, which they don’t since its been 3 years without them(aside from the very few gem store ones)

EDIT: i too am done with this thread as it seems as the person above said. “I want this so do it, everyone else can go kitten off”

No..it would be nice if i could play a MMO without having mounts clutter my screen. It would be nice if i didnt need mounts to be able to move around the world effectively. Something i dont need to do in GW2 now. The game world is small enough already, Mounts would further make it smaller.

So again, No to mounts, they arent needed.

They aren’t even a productive counter-argument, just a flat “no”

With all the details I laid out, there’s no discussion, just troll posts? C’mon.

It is that we dont want them. We have heard everything before, many times, hence the flat out “No” responses, we have gotten so tired of typing up counter arguments that its just a time saver. if you want to read all the counter arguments, go look at the 22 page thread someone linked.

they likely wont do this for the fact that water weapons are coming to land post HoT.

interesting, where did you hear that?

Nowhere, but to be honest its Probably only a matter of time. as it is quite a few skins are wasted by not allowing them to be used on land. Further the fact that all underwater weapons work just as well on land(maybe not the harpoon gun), but we had spears(javelines) in guild wars 1, i dont see why they couldnt do the same here. EDIT: I like Dante’s token idea too. It gives the idea that a player is still working towards something tangible even if they repeatedly don’t get the drop they hope for. Even if you were halfway into the amout of tokens required for the drop, you’d still be happy if you received one.

Do you think the tokens should “reset”/disappear if you obtained the item through a lucky drop?

I do not think they should reset, if you get one from a random drop, grats! But no i dont think they should reset. One token per try no matter what drops you get, that way it stays fair for everyone, including those who are lucky enough to get one

With the exception of a few items that specifically do not use that system (for good reasons) we have a very good token system in the game already. It’s called gold.

Can i buy my tequatl bow? when i can, get back to me on that. Because i would gladly throw gold at it for one, because of how often ive done it…and not seen any ascended drops. Gold is not a token. Tokens are what you get for dungeons for completing them that can only be spent on that content. Adding something like that for stuff like tequatl would be nice, for those of us who do not get good drops. Its not that fact that im entitled, but ive done it almost every day, for a year, for one horde, ONE. I doubt i will ever see one, so being able to pick a SKIN, not an ascended weapon would be amazing.

I like this map. I hate these mobs. See my problem?

Not everyone knows how to dodge by level 80, believe me, if they did we wouldnt have to tell people to WP when dead as often as we do. They add to the map by making it more deserty, in GW hyenas live in the deserts of the world so it makes sense for them to be there too.

DID YOU EVEN READ WHY THEY GOT IT?

1.)Those players who got it had a SKU that was no longer available and instead of re adding it they just upgraded the players. However, they should have given it out to EVERY player who has an old account(Non heroic, so digital) so as to be fair about it.

2.) You could also say that they are being rewarded by ANET for taking time off to test something that they couldnt keep their progress in, couldnt do anything at all really but stay in this one little zone and do a few events.

3.) It does not need to be fixed as there isnt a problem. I didnt receive one. I own the heroic edition as well before they added in the bag, i dont care either. I got what i paid for at the time. Whats even better is that most of the people who got it already have all the armor that comes in that chest.

4.) Theres already a thread for this you should have posted it there.

Sidekicks and Allies

I don’t know how many people here played GW1, but one of the greatest parts of that game was being able to acquire, train, and equip a small group of allies to go with you on missions.

Does anyone else miss that aspect of GW1? Or is everyone here content with the empty feeling solo world that GW2 has become?

For you first line, thats an opinion, one i do not share. One of the greatest parts about that game was the fact that it had actual challenging content and a very well written story, heck even nightfall had a well written story. The Lore of that game was another good thing, to me, heroes and henchman are dead last, i thought they where boring really and they made things to easy.

I dont miss it at all really, i enjoyed playing with other players more than heroes or henchman(Played GW1 for 7 years actively). I dont know where you got empty…but i cant run around the world and not run into people nowdays. Its also not impossible to find a group for content in this game, just because you arent getting a good PUG doesnt mean the population is low.

HOT will also increase the population, and if it provides a challenge ill be surprised if it bleeds people at a faster rate than the base game has.

John Smith has a big thread asking people to discuss RNG and I haven’t seen anyone offer any suggestions that offer systems that would be enjoyed by the masses.

  • If it’s entirely skill-based, highly skilled players will enjoy it (until they get bored), but less-skilled players will decide it’s unfair (for example, this is exactly how the acquisition of the liadri mini is treated).
  • If it’s entirely dedicated drops, people get bored or complain of ‘grind’ or repetition, as is the case with dungeons.
  • If things are too easily acquired, people tend to devalue them (‘everyone has that’); people often covet those things that are less easily found.

In that one thread i put forth an idea that might work.

Ill be using tequatl here as an example and something else.

Currently the only way to get a sunless weapon is to rely on RNG at tequatl, which is a poor way to get it, ive done him most days for a year without seeing one. Some people have gotten 6 or more, its irritating to me not getting the drop i want.

My proposal? a mix of both, you can get the item from a drop randomly each time you do tequatl, but each time you also do tequatl, you get a token. it takes 10-250 tokens to get a sunless SKIN. By now, i would have one, and i would be perfectly happy. Im sure someone will see some flaws with that though, please point them out

Edit: im not even sure if thats been suggested or not..but it seems fair to me at least.
