Why is luck an item, rather than just a simple account addition (other than the few crafting uses that could be shifted elsewhere)?
Why is junk actually in the game when you could just get the equivalent copper/silver instead? (OK. I actually understand this one. It’s to force inventory-management and make people go back to a town/outpost. Can’t say I agree with it though.)
It’s a common trend, unfortunately. Loot bags, I get. Those are helpful as they preserve inventory, but there are a lot of unnecessary intermediates elsewhere.

Have them sell Knight Power Cores for a reasonable price and I’m game. Grinding out even more of them would suck, but it would at least give me a chance to get the red back-piece without breaking the (non-existent in my case) bank.

I’ve been wanting clarification on this as well. The FAQ seems to have changed to be somewhat ambiguous.
Gamestop is apparently the only official retail partner, yet they have no physical item listed yet. :-/

People standing back and ranging will no longer get a kill. People will have to melee
This…
This attitude/design philosophy needs to die.
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
I like many of the general concepts of the city. The living areas feel more like living areas, though they don’t seem nearly expansive enough for the supposed scale of the city. And really, the buildings need to be bigger. There are like 12 foot doors for buildings that (discounting interior wall thickness) look to be at most 8 feet deep.
I actually like the whole area to the north. It feels like a pleasant park, and a full-scale recreational zone of that size would be great. Not practical for what it is, mind you. That bank for example is… not very secure.
(Frog pond could also stand to be larger)
I like that the Black Lion facility has expanded, but it seems kind okittenward the way there are 4 spaces for random items in each room. Having a room with normal BLTC reps, and then a larger, more… department-store(?) type of presentation for the other items would fit better. Or a hybrid corporate/salesroom type of building. Other than that though, I’d expect a larger economic center in a town like LA, or at least something that feels kind of like a Bazaar.
The biggest criticism I’d give though is that the different areas don’t really mesh all that well. Some areas (Commodore’s Quarters) feel claustrophobic while the main area has everything extremely spread out and there’s not, for lack of a better term, a ‘comfortable transition’ there. Likewise, the ‘outskirts’ just sort of ‘happen’; I’d expect the path to the Guild Initiative, or to the lighthouse to be gussied-up a bit since they’re new construction. Granted, I like the natural look in some of the outer areas, but it doesn’t mesh too well.
That said, overall, I like the city far better than before. While there are some issues, it at least feels more like a ‘city’ than it did, in my opinion.
Now, if only the Grove could get a facelift. Though I guess redesigning a tree would require a bit more explaining… (But seriously, The design of that place feels kind of haphazard.)

There are only a few that have entrances obscured enough that I might find them a problem (Hello, Griffonrook Run and, to a lesser extent Scavenger’s Chasm).
I’d have preferred the achievements and listing of them never existed though.
Then again, I’d prefer that for all exploration-related bits since they turn the world from a place to adventure in to a checklist. :-(
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
I would like to see them allow for an equipment slot for one of each weapon type a character can wield (2 for dual-wield weapons) and you then just select amongst those as part of your active weapon-sets.

Same as it ever was.
I did manage to get a Shadow Yellow dye from a pack I bought with leftover achievement gems, so the Midnight Fire trim has been replaced with that. You’d be hard-pressed to spot the difference though.
I got my Lovestruck bow since I last posted an image as well. (Favor of the Festival afforded me that. Bankrupted me though.)
The day of the patch, I did also finally get my mini-Chainsawd though, so I’m carrying that around now. (Got lucky and got Howl out of the forge. Bankrupt again… Seeing a trend here.)
(Note: Still annoying the game doesn’t take your gamma into account for SSs. Have to adjust it myself each time.)

And honestly despite people claiming the bosses were going down too fast, it didn’t seem fast enough to be worth ‘adjusting’. Had hoped it may have been enough to improve the odds of getting a THW kill though, but it seems that dream is dead.

So… Yeah… Still waiting on a physical copy in America… Or at least an official response on when they expect those will become available from retailers… Or I guess just ‘retailer’ since Gamestop is the only official partner :-/).
Edit: From the wording of the FAQ now… Is physical pre-purchase even going to be an option? It says physical and digital purchases will be an option when Heart of Thorns is ‘available’. Since digital is here now, does ‘available’ mean once pre-purchases are allowed (in which case, the boxed listings are late), or does it genuinely mean the physical copies will only become available for purchase on release?

Based on the way the extra slots are handled, I’m assuming this is the case, but to be sure, if I pre-purchase a physical copy, then upgrade it, I will still get the second character slot, yes?

The new Lion’s Arch music is pretty good, and overall I prefer the stuff seen in LWS2 to the vanilla music. Don’t know the names of most music off-hand since most of it runs together and doesn’t leave a lasting impression though (which is the problem when you cycle through a number of songs for any given zone, rather than giving them their own unique theme).
I’d say the Labyrinthine Cliffs music is probably the best I can recall off-hand though.
The piano rendition of Fear Not This Night is one of the better vanilla pieces.
And Crystal Oasis is the best returning piece from GW.

Good times. Wonder if we’ll ever see them again.

I remember those days, way back in the PSO era.
In this game though, never experienced that…
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
I’ve never been in favor of permanently locking the supply of items, nor of the obsession with hyper-exclusivity, so I’d certainly be in favour of bringing these back.
That said, the fact they had some stupid limited raffle for the Halloween stuff instead of bringing them back normally indicates that ANet wants this crap to stay virtually unobtainable.
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
Eh, I’ve never been a fan of dungeons/pre-formed-instanced-content, but the types of things I read pretty much ensure I’m never finishing any of my dungeon sets.
I hate melee in these sorts of games, and short of ANet completely rebuilding the game to play like DMC/Zelda/something along those lines (complete with native controller support), that’s not going to change. I’ve always gravitated to the ranged class and I will continue to do so. I knew going into the game they were trying to get away from “Ranger = ranged only”, and I was leery even then, since I wanted a pure-range class and they hadn’t offered something else.
Deciding to make due with what they did have, from the start, I was torn between Rifle/Longbow Warrior and Longbow/Shortbow ranger. Ultimately, Eagle Eye sealed it for me, but it’s not a matter of “I picked Ranger because they’re intrinsically supposed to be good at range by virtue of being called Rangers!” Rather, “I picked what seemed like the best option for a pure-range class out of what we have available.”
It’s not trivial to say, “Just switch to melee.” to me. I could do it, and I’m sure I could be just as effective as anyone else, but at that point I would also not be having fun with the game, and at that point, why bother at all?
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
I love them as a concept.
Not so much in execution.
The controls and camera just don’t lend themselves to them very well, and many of them rely on jumping on things that don’t make sense (if you’re a larger character, some of the ‘jumps’ have you floating inches away).
That said, even with their faults, I enjoy them more than I do combat-centric gameplay, and, IMO, the Forsaken Halls, Drydock Scratch, and especially the Obsidian Sanctum (sans PvP… That shouldn’t have been a thing) are what I would rather the game take inspiration from for future content.
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
I do like the concept, but due to the limited number of legends, I know I’m going to end up disappointed based on what we could have gotten.

Do you guys even read…
i am saying LA should have lively music, as of now, every new zone is getting darker and more depressing.
if you think that the entire game should wail in agony and be sad that many died to create an immersion then it will spell badly for the players.
can you imagine going into every zone and it is dark and depressing? for goodness sake, this is an mmo, not a dungeon crawler. you make LA and other towns like divinity’s reach to be so lively and beautiful but the music is still saddening and it kills the mood.
Actually one of the issues I had with the game from the onset was how poorly it represented the threat of the dragons et al in the general world. When you’ve got what were (originally) beings akin to Eldritch Abominations pretty much eating your world, you would think that would take precedence over everything else (This was one of my issues with early LS S1).
I’m not a huge fan of everything being all depressing and miserable, but it fits the world they set up. Unfortunately, that world ended up having virtually no emotional impact or sense or legitimacy anyway. :-/

Was kinda interested in trying it out, but I had the poor idea of using my point on the shroom thing, and didn’t want to bother with the personal story bit.
As an aside, I’d rather the shrooms worked via jumping on them; context menus are bleh. :-(
And rather than Archeage, I’ve always liked the look of the jumping, wall-running, and gliding from Blade and Soul. Everything else aside, that’s always been something that looks really enjoyable.

Did you ‘spend’ the mastery point on it? Simply maxing the bar doesn’t do it.

Orr is what zones were meant to be like. Hearts only exist because of the original NPE. They found that players couldn’t figure out what to do, so they added hearts to act as quests, then scouts to direct players towards them. Hearts are only intended to get you to move through the map, to find events.
The original concept for Orr was great. The execution… Not so much.
But I’ll stop for now lest I get into another rant about zombie anti-aircraft weapons.
At one point, events were invisible. Instead of being told to save a village, you just did because you wanted to. The problem however was that traditional questers skip everything.
This, I would have liked. Along with the removal of Vistas and PoIs. I love exploration, but I hate the idea that they’ve created a checklist of place they want you to see. Instead, just make diverse, interesting environments that may or may not have any gameplay-related purpose, and let people explore them naturally (if they want to).
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
I was never a huge fan of hearts, but I’ve always wanted something more from DEs than we originally got (Massive branches, multi-zone effects, really long events, etc.)
At the very least I’d like them to be fairly spread out and feel natural. While (if they must occur in close proximity) its good they’re all connected (one of the issues I always had was how every 10 feet a completely-distinct ‘emergency’ would happen), that combined with the short duration has made Silverwastes in particular insanely repetitive. :-/
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
Are you big on WvW? If not, your server is now irrelevant. The game uses Megaservers for PvE, so you’ll be playing alongside people from a number of servers.
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
I would also like to state that, while not a UI concern, I’m not really fond of the XP/leveling method of ‘training’ masteries. I’d much rather see special events/mini-dungeons/encounters/etc. that unlock specific mastery abilities.
Grind ‘XP’/spend is just kind of samey and bland.
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
Just looked at the first map on full screen, there is about that much again with a doughnut hole in the middle that hasn’t been developed yet, you just fall down into blackness.
I managed to pop that area, though you can’t really do anything there yet it seems.
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one confused by the mastery panel…
Perhaps either a quick tutorial/mission or better hints on the panel would be useful.
Whenever you move into the panel of an unchecked mastery, I’d say the checkbox should get an aura and a tooltip should pop-up (on mouseover) indicating that the mastery must be enabled before you can train it.
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
I personally had an issue figuring out how to activate training a mastery. Initially I assumed you had to click on one of the actual skills, which I’ll admit was rather daft, but making it more clear you need to click the circle/check up top to enable training could be nice.
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
Enemy animations are wonky as Hell.
Experienced it with the raptors, mordrem wolves, etc. but the Smokescales were by far the worst. They would just teleport on top of me, then spazz into a different position every second or so with no proper transition.
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
I like the aesthetics, but I don’t like how constrained it currently feels, nor how the events make the map feel so frenetic. I’d prefer a large place that just feels open to exploration.
Granted, with gliding/mushrooms, etc. mastered and more of the map available, this may help somewhat, but right now, there doesn’t feel like a lot to see or get lost in, and instead, it all falls back on some extremely repetitive events (That said, the day stuff didn’t seem as bad. Night just felt incredibly repetitive though).
Not really fond of masteries either thus far. Didn’t manage to unlock one, but just grinding XP to buy them wound up feeling kind of underwhelming. :-/

Ranger still looked to be using the old trait setup… :-/
Don’t know why anyone thought they new elite specializations or the new trait system would be available. It’s a stress test, that’s it. They didn’t say new elite specs would be available, and IIRC, they said they wouldn’t be but the Rev would be.
I wasn’t expecting Druid would make it, but I figured the revamped core traitlines might be in.

Ended up with the day off of work, so I gave it a shot. Ranger still looked to be using the old trait setup… :-/
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
All-in-all? PSO specialist ranger.
High range, and high accuracy to proc special abilities (paralyze, confuse, freeze, etc… With my favourite, of course, being the ability to fourth HP)
Seeing as the class structure in this game (unfortunately) doesn’t support something like that, I was more keen on having an evasion-heavy, max-range squishy type of class… A class that plinks away at health while using evades, knockbacks, etc. to stay at 1500+ range. Something like what I envisioned a rifle thief as before release.
Out of what we got? Longbow ranger. At least I have good range. :-/
I generally don’t like melee.
I’ll faff about with it for a bit (Trying to proc instant death via S-Beats blades in PSO, for example), but even in that game (where I opposed it least), I always found range more enjoyable. Until MMOs start to play like Devil May Cry or Zelda (controller and all), I doubt I’ll ever be big on melee.
