Does 'Not on My Watch' require no deaths?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Dark Saviour.9410

Dark Saviour.9410

As far as I was aware, this achievement should only require all the NPCs to be alive at the end of the event; not require them to remain alive the entire time (which seems near impossible for the second event).

A long while ago, I got 1/2 on it, so I’ve been back trying to finish it off. 4 runs today, all members alive at the end of each event (for 3 of those at least. May have had someone dead for the first event the first time…) Achievement won’t ding.

Trying to figure out if this is a bug or if everyone really does need to remain alive.

Transgender people & GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dark Saviour.9410

So is there any context in which a transgender character or a homosexual character can be included in a video game without it being a SJW agenda?

With respect to Sya, she could be brought into the story in a meaningful way.

If the writers decide that as part of S3, there is a situation in which a community gets ravaged or something (something going on with the Dominion of Winds or passage opening to Elona or something) and then spec out whatever happens from there, when deciding how to flesh out this section, bringing in Tyrian aid workers might make sense. And from there, since it fits the situation, Sya could be a prominent character.

That would not be an issue, as far as I’m concerned.

The issue would be:
1) The story being specifically engineered to create the situation above JUST to get her into the picture.
or
2) Her showing up and being important to a scenario it doesn’t make a huge amount of sense to. She’s not exactly known to be a super-close friend or acquaintance to anyone relevant, so you’d need a good reason why she is suddenly in the spotlight; same would be true for, say, Wild-Eye Miller or Owain.

That said, with how Verdant Brink just felt like a tonne of cameos for the sake of cameos, I don’t expect much from the writers/designers. The writers actually seem to be quite good when it comes to everything but the actual game, which is a shame. I still remember the pre-release lore blogs and whatnot. :-(

As for Jory and Kasmeer… The problem with them is that, missing the latter half of S1, their relationship seems to be the thing about them I notice more than anything else due to the writing. It doesn’t feel natural given the situations they’re in that they would speak as they do. Granted, no other couple has the prominence and screen-time they do, so it may just be that ANet can’t portray romance well in general, but eh… Not a fan of their handling in S2.

Legendary Crafting, don't do it

Should have involved some actual quests, honestly (same for the elite specs). Something where you actually have to visit areas relevant to Gwen and talk to Logan/her ghost/etc. for Love of an Ascalonian Girl for instance.

Would have obviously required more development effort, but it would also be something worthwhile added to the game rather than… what we got.

Yeah, its part of the reason I can’t stand the HoT maps. At this point I’m considering just walking away for another year and waiting for the maps to die enough that they have to do something.

I hoped to at least get all the masteries before I got burnt out, but it looks like that’s not happening. Jumping back and forth, trying to catch metas (which I’m not fond of in the first place) that are actually making progress has just killed the appeal. At least with the core masteries I could get decent XP killing stuff in Orr/Silverwastes. Maguuma, however, has just become a slog…

Can I ask to all you solo/duo ‘guildposers’ why you even want a guild to begin with?

1) To ward off guild invites (still have that at least)
2) Guild Weapons/Armour skins (still have the commendation-locked weapons I’ve never gotten. :-/)
3) Extra storage (thankfully I had already unlocked the lowest tier of this at least)
4) Access to and ability to decorate the new maps*.

*Before you say, “You want player housing,” yes; I do. However the existing maps don’t make sense for that and I expect something smaller in scale will be offered for that (if anything ever is), yet I still want access to play around on these particular maps.

What drives you from HoT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Dark Saviour.9410

Dark Saviour.9410

So far:
1) Something about the new maps is literally giving me headaches.
2) Same issue that I had with core with the open world feeling like a bunch of stages for events rather than a real world that’s compelling to explore.
3) Granted I don’t actually have much interest in elite specs, but I’d like to unlock them at least, yet to do that, I need hero challenges, and I’m unable to solo these, compounded by…
4) The maps are dead. Not sure if its a legitimate lack of population or just megaservers overcompensating for what they assumed the load would be, but there are rarely more than a half-dozen players in the areas I’m in, and even that’s only if I waltz into one of the Verdant Brink meta-events.
5) Lack of nostalgia. Maguuma didn’t have a whole lot of that in the first place, and at least they did the Falls decently, but again, like the core game, I generally feel disconnected from the original series.
6) Elite specializations and masteries as a concept. As I’ve said during the betas, masteries should be more about side-stories, collections, and NPC-interaction to me, NOT filling an XP bar and clicking a button. Likewise, elite specializations should have been unlocked/advanced through Job quests.
7) No real possibility of enjoying the Guild Hall maps since I’m only ever going to have solo guilds (and had nowhere near enough influence to get the needed favour).

and

A) Not HoT-related itself, but Nightfury being priced completely out of my reach has killed my drive as well.

Honestly, Anet does not cater to moulding a product to every customers desires. If someone thinks the game doesn’t live up to their standards, you find a different product to play.

If it exists, it won’t for long. The ‘other’ crowds, rather than going to any of the existing games which already cater to them, will jump on board anything that doesn’t and then demand that it replicate the experience they could already be having anywhere else.

And they’ll win.

A change or new direction is not necessarily an evolution…

That said, I actually don’t really want them dealing with the Mursaat since I can’t see it being done well, so on that front, this doesn’t bother me.

I do wish the world would feel more like the same world we saw before though and that a lot of that stuff would carry forward as more than an afterthought. If you’re going to make a sequel of this type, either carry on or embrace the nostalgia. As it stands, I feel GW2 would have been better off as either an entirely unrelated game or an AU reboot.

While I appreciate some new form of progression, I still think the XP grind setup is the wrong approach.

For gliding, we should have a quest-line (yes, a more traditional sort of quest-line) where we decide we need to have a reliable way to maneuver through the jungle, then search for surviving pact engineers that have experience in air-to-ground combat training.
As we move to unlock updraft usage, we should go out to take readings regarding updrafts in various areas, then test incremental prototypes until enough data is available for a full upgrade.
Other facets could be advanced simply by continued glider usage, some (such as lean techniques) could require learning them from a specific instructor, etc.

Likewise, the bouncing mushrooms could just throw you off in a random/fatal direction until you meet with an Itzel master who can coach you on how to approach them.

Just something to give advancing the different masteries more substance than “Kill stuff, click button”.

So then why would two people, who are married, that live together, are likely playing in the same room, need to be in their own personal guild? The only logical reasons would be a) for bank use or b) just so they can share a guild tag that establishes them as being “together” when out in public.

1) Guild Weapon and Armour skins are a thing.
2) Customizable Guild Halls are coming.

As for #2, even if they created separate personal housing (that wasn’t trash like home instances currently are), if the guild maps are ‘different’, that’s enough reason right there.

The biggest issue with going, “No, you see; if you look at it this way and think about these gaps in what we knew, it can fit without contradicting anything!” is that it still leaves the concept as something that must be justified rather than just feeling obvious or natural.

After non-storm-themed Tempests and Chronomancers with skills that are basically whatever with, “But, it’s because TIME!!! Wibbly-wobbly grumble, grumble” flavour text, its not a surprise, but I’d still rather they pick a singular concept and build around that.

Celestial could have been a decent Canthan-themed specialization down the road, but now this feels like that’s out. :-(
