When they introduce a pure-ranged martial class that has at least 15ØØ range and more options than what we’ve currently got, tell me, and maybe I’ll stop trying to push the ranged aspects of a ranger. Until then, since I like range, I’ll focus on the range of my ranger so she can fight ranged while she ranges, dawg.

Official Response: Drop Rate of Legendary Precursors

in Crafting

Dark Saviour.9410

if there is a set recipe, that means everyone will eventually be able to get it so long as they invest the time in to it.

Great. Sounds perfectly reasonable.

I am afraid that if the requirements aren’t too difficult, lots of players will be running around with a legendary in 3-6 months.

And I see no problem with this. If they put in the effort to grind out all the rubbish they need (aside from the precursor), they’ve done enough to merit the item. As it stands, they could waste all the time it takes to go through all the bollocks needed to get one and run clear into that brick-wall at the end, at which point, they’ve really got nothing for their effort. And if as many people as you believe are willing to go through that much effort , but the precursors are severely limited to prevent the bulk of them from reaching their ultimate goal, the game is encouraging people to waste their time.

You want to keep them rare to ensure not everyone can get them? Make them pure RNG. Otherwise, **** rarity, and let anyone who puts in the requisite time and effort towards one get it.

Oh, and whatever other changes get made, make the precursors account-bound. People shouldn’t be making progress more easily standing in one spot in Lion’s Arch than they do actively playing the bulk of the game.

What do you think about Legendary Weapons?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dark Saviour.9410

Not worth it. I had initially decided to slowly work towards getting the Ponybow, but a combination of the RNG and profiteering associated with the precursors, the soulbound on use rather than Account-bound on acquire state of them, and an increasing feeling of disconnect with the game and community in general has pushed me to the point of just saying “**** it.”
If you could reasonably pursue them and still have a chance to accomplish/earn other things of interest as you go, I could probably tolerate it. But essentially requiring a dedicated effort with no chance to feel like you’re getting something along the way kills it. They just aren’t worth it for the hassle they require. Honestly, no singular reward of that nature would be.

Though I don’t really agree with many of your particular desires, I can relate to the topic title. A lot of what I had expected or hoped for going in seems to have been done in a far more… underwhelming way than I’d hoped, and while I knew the game wasn’t going to hit the notes I’d most enjoy out of an online game, the notes I was hoping it would hit have fallen rather flat.
- DEs don’t feel like large, significant, interconnected events that genuinely add life to the world, and instead feel like insular, repetitive ‘filler’ that oversaturate the landscape and are in no way compelling. I expected events beyond a single chain that would impact one another, events taking potentially days or even a week to repeat, ‘World Events’ like the Shatterer being the culmination of huge chains spanning multiple zones, with players summoned by criers in all the major cities, etc. But… Apparently not.
- The Personal story was a horrible, disjointed mess that didn’t even make the choices it DID allow (which I’d felt were too restrictive in the first place) to be all that impactful. The ‘villain’ ended up feeling extremely generic when they had a perfect set up for something far more ominous and threatening, the orders were underutilized and homogenized into a vessel to serve Trahearne’s story, and the home-instance (which for non-humans/Charr seemed lackluster in itself) was all-but-abandoned.
-Dungeons… Well, I knew I wasn’t going to like them from the start simply due to the type of content they present, but the design has apparently fostered the growth and vocalization of a subset of the community that just puts me off of the game even more…

Unfortunately, it’s basically a guarantee that none of these issues (as I see them) are going to be addressed/changed since it would require a total rebuild of major aspects of the game. There are some more minor problems which could be touched up, but even if they were, I’m still left with a game that’s only a shadow of what I feel it could have been. And it was the game I’d hoped to get that brought me here and it is pretty much only the fact that I have already bought and played GW2 as much as I have (on top of wasting my time grinding out HoM points and GWAMM in anticipation of it) that drives me on at all… Right now I just figure I’ll check out the Halloween update and perhaps the first major content update beyond that to see if it gives any indication that there is something meaninguld to hope for going forward. Then again, that might be setting myself up as well, since Sorrow’s Furnace gave me hope for the original before Factions crushed it. :-\

Seriously is this the best you could do ….. it shoots rainbows …..what does it use for ammunition Lollypops.

Rangers are going to be using this thing so let`s theme it appropriately, it should be carved out of Heart wood dark and green , replace the Unicorn with a wolfs head with wings of an eagle for the tips and it should shoot the spirits of the forest not rainbows.

Monk with Melee Tonfas and ranged attacks via a Kusari weapon. Could be heavy in aoe boons for allies via contact. Just my pennies.

Kusarigama could be a fun weapon, really, but I’m afraid something like that would be considered too eclectic when held against “Sword”, “Hammer”, etc. :-/

And though I’ve seen support for a new Heavy-armour class to balance things out, I’d honestly prefer a new light-armour class… A non-caster light-armour class… Honestly, taking the range-specialist idea I mentioned earlier and making them light armour would be ideal for me, though I guess ‘Mercenary’ would probably fall more into medium or heavy-armour, unfortunately. :-(

Just sucks because light-armour is the only armour-class that has a decent selection of worthwhile options IMO, but if you want to play a martial class, you’re out of luck.
I suppose the monk idea being bandied about would work to fill that gap, though it wouldn’t do much for me personally since I’m only interested in max-range combat. :-\

But if they do throw in a monk, they need some Parappa the Rapper moves.

Well, all the orders’ paths are just as ‘tragic’ there (though I found the events so contrived, abrupt, and subsequently glossed over that it had no meaningful impact), but the problem is that, as I’ve mentioned elsewhere, the comments made in the penultimate mission just don’t make sense for the Priory.

Seiran was a Sylvari. The eye claims she’s ‘waiting for us beneath Zhaitan’s wings’, but… Sylvari are incorruptable by Dragon magick. And this is seemingly, fairly, well-known and was actually brought up earlier in the storyline for me (as a Sylvari), so it doesn’t even work sell as a mindscrew. @ Razorface well just imagine a world where everyone isnt as l33t as you, casual gamers etc, plus When i have died, its because i tried to get that barrier down and the ppl who could revive me were to busy looking for claws down the hill..

Normally I’d be against the whole ‘2leet4u’ and L2P type of responses, but in this case, you really are dying because you’re approaching it wrong. I know that there are some render issues with the fight, so you might not be able to actually see this some of the time, but the people that attack the wall? The bulk of them stand on the right-side of the hill where they can avoid most damage and attack it from a range. I actually do run out and try to revive people that stand-front in center and/or melee the wall at times (In spite of getting about 4 FPS in this event), and the result is usually a facefull of icecicles and a 1ØØ foot trip in reverse. If you stand near the area everyone else is, you get revived almost instantly.

And as far as farming goes, I personally only started doing it because the event in general has gotten stale. I still say dragons should have been a bigger to-do, and should be weekly events with massive multi-zone chains building up to them and town-criers summoning people to the zones they appear in, but alas, that did not happen. So as it stands they’re regularly-scheduled loot-farms that really offer no impact, other than to drive everyone in one of the zones in which they spawn insane with constant questioning of, “WHEN DAGRON!?”

Why are a lot of gamers unsociable?

Never underestimate anti-social trolls, even in this game. Shared EXP is great as it minimizes KSing, but some abilities are used for trolling purposes like hunter knockbacks, which funnily only seem to be used when others are around. Not saying all who uses these kinds of skills are trolls, but the context in which they’re used makes me a bit suspicious.

I actually do tend to use the ability fairly consistently in any low-pressure situation because, as things dragged out I get into, “Hey, an unused ability!” mode. <<
So it’s less a matter of trolling and more a combination of boredom and compulsion. >
>

Probably something I should work on. <_<

I’m looking forward to Phantasy Star 2 coming out even though it’s probably going to be pay to win (Sega said so themselves). It has the best character customization I’ve seen (although this could also be a curse since I really don’t want to see disproportionately big… melons everywhere -_- ) and I love the anime graphics and they remind me of Star Ocean somewhat =) The series is even older than WoW dating as far back as the Dreamcast! I even created some custom characters. They’re female so I’m not going to use them in game, but they are cute

I played the Japanese version for awhile and it ended up not being what I’ve been looking for at all. I kind of expected that would be the case from the start, but it’s still rather depressing as, if even the bloody sequel to a game you love doesn’t embrace the things you enjoyed about the original, it kind of kills any hope that anything else will do so either. So it’s pretty much left me jaded towards ORPGs in general at this point, since it signals to me that the industry is just going to keep moving further-and-further away from most of the things I loved. :-(

That said, though the CS is annoying, it isn’t really P2W. I’d say PSU:JP was closer to that honestly… However, the only things I think it excelled at and consider a notable improvement over the original PSO were the character creator, the combat system (though I’d have liked to see it taken even further and more vertical elements added), and the fact that each player gets dedicated loot drops. The mission-structure and the rubbish rare system were the biggest fun-killers for me. :-(

But I suppose this is pretty far off-topic now. >_>

Dark Saviour.9410

I’ve never been big on actively-seeking out a group, and it’s a major part of why I loved the concept behind what was done in the open-world here. In the end, it hasn’t gone exactly as I hoped, as there’s little reason to socialize with anyone else specifically since, though everyone is playing together, it’s not a linear experience, and thus you aren’t thrown together for any length of time. But at least I’ve got map-chat, and it’s still far better than anything that requires actively grouping (hence why I’m loathe to attempt any dungeons).

I suppose I was spoiled by PSO being my first online game, since that essentially provided the best type of set-up for my preferences. You could join a game or start your own, jump into playing, and socialize with whoever happens to be in the room. Someone new comes in? Drop them a pipe and carry on. Kill crap and shoot the breeze while you progress from Forest-to-Falz or Temple-to-Flow. I really wish dungeons in this game would have adopted a similar model, but I know that it wouldn’t have gone over well since that would have ripped the ‘challenge’ out of them. :-( But they’d likely have to be made massively-longer if that was done anyway or you’d end up with something similar to PSU or PSO2 where the content is all in such short, insular bursts that rooms don’t have proper time to get into full swing.

Eagle Eye and my mistaken belief that medium-armour would be far more suitable to my tastes than heavy-armour (don’t actually like either in this game) were the main reasons I went with Ranger.

I’ve never been fond of the direction they took the Mad King as the game went on, as I honestly feel he was more interesting and fun as just “That random Halloween dude with the candyman servants”, but I guess that ship’s already sailed… :-/
Since they left the door open about the aftermath of some of the Halloween quests and the purpose of the Nameless Lich, I suppose the best thing would be to bite the bullet and finish that plotline off. The Nameless Lich in particular was something I would expect to see more come out of, but honestly with how the Risen have turned out and the presence of liches in their ranks, the intrigue there has kinda fizzled out as well. :-/

So in the end, while I know they’ll be expanding on the existing stuff, I’m hoping they throw in some new (and hopefully marginally-related at best) Halloween fun as well… Introduce some characters that can just be left as total mysteries. Not everything needs a comprehensive backstory or plot significance; simplicity and mystery can be much more compelling.

Next gw2 Expansion Class?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dark Saviour.9410

The only class I’d really like would be something more range-centric. Ideally purely ranged…

For lack of a better name, call them “Mercenary” or something.
Give them Longbows, Shortbows, Rifles, Pistols, and possibly throwing knives, with 15ØØ range on at least one of those and with the bulk of their utility skills being related to maintaining their distance.

I know most people wouldn’t be huge on it simply due to the crossover it’d have with Thief, Warrior, and Ranger, making it seem redundant, but I’d like something that takes particular aspects of them as its primary focus, while leaving the other aspects behind. This is an archetype that I’ve wanted from the start and I’ve been rather irked that none of the current options have fully run with it, dragging those aspects of the professions down to facilitate the aspects I don’t particularly care about (Melee combat, pets, etc.)

As for races, the only particularly plausible one I’d like to see at all would be the Largos. Tengu are probably far more likely, but unless they get a Gensokyou-esque revamp, I’m not a big fan. >_>
Djinn would actually be my first choice, but I don’t believe there’s much of a chance of that.

That said, I half-hope that we don’t get new races/professions, simply because I don’t want to have wasted my time building up my Ranger. >_>

Forced PvP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dark Saviour.9410

Hall of Monuments shouldn’t be included because it’s only available to GW1 players. If it was part of it you’d have to go back and buy GW1 to get the achievement if you were new to GW2.

I thought non-GW players could buy a stone in Lion’s Arch to get there, but Kimmes would just be like, “You’re a nobody” and not give you anything…

Anyway, I agree that the requirement should be severed from WvW. Make a new achievement if you must, and shove it into the WvW category rather than Explorer (same with the 4 jumping puzzles, honestly) but anything to keep PvP and PvE as far away from each other as possible is grand in my book.

It’s obvious it was designed this way because ANet knew that PvE-ers would want to complete the achievement, especially after knocking out such a huge amount of it, and figured this would be a good way to make them try out WvW. They’ve always seemed to have this notion that, “It’s not just PvP, so PvE-ers should love it too! We think it’s great, so if they just give it a chance, they will too!” But, that’s… not the case. Many of us loathe PvP as a concept and there’s no way you can ever make it palatable. And trying to sneak it in such that it becomes even more of an obnoxious burden doesn’t help.

People keep saying, “These places are part of the world, so they should count,” but if ANet hadn’t required them, then I can’t believe anybody would be going, “This makes no sense! Add World Completion crap into the Mists!” Especially since, as mentioned, Dungeon and sPvP/Heart of the Mists completion points aren’t counted. It really seems to be more a case of justifying it simply because it was done rather than because it is generally regarded as a good option. Even worse though is that in many cases, the support seems to amount to a fair bit of vitriol and malice towards the PvE-only crowd in a sort of ‘HA! Suck it Carebears!’ type of mentality.

I’d honestly have preferred that WvW had been kept an entirely separate beast with it’s own set of homeservers, progression, etc. that didn’t touch general PvE whatsoever. But that ship has already sailed, so at the very least making small changes that make the game more pleasant for those that don’t wish to partake in whichever game-type that they likely never even wanted when they bought the game would be nice,

Honestly, they’re probably my favourite bit about it too, but only a few of them really hit the potential I’d hoped for.

By far the best one, and what I’d have liked to see a lot of the other ones take after is the Obsidian Sanctum. Well, save for the whole PvP aspect that is.
The quiet, remote atmosphere, the length, scale, and general overwhelming presence it has… Just wonderful. Honestly, that type of ‘feel’ is something I’d hoped to see throughout the entire game; areas that are still, quiet, not combat-heavy (again, disregarding the PvP bollocks), and genuinely feel remote. Ruins that just feel completely isolated from the goings-on of the world…

But I digress…

Aside from the Obsidian Sanctum, I’d consider the Sharkmaw Cavern, Scavenger’s Chasm, and Conundrum Cube were the biggest standouts. The former loses points because the Captain was obnoxious, but in general, all 3 had a great sense of atmosphere and style.

I knew that wasn’t a bug simply because the Elonian wines are classed as legendary and can be sold there. Expected other items of that nature to follow suit.

Didn’t expect legendary weapons would be able to be sold though…
(And they’re apparently considered mystic-class, rather than legendary?)

As for the looks, I find the less ‘hardcore’ style to be far more distinctive and interesting. Things like bows that shoot skulls that scream curses and spew blood which sets things on fire feel a bit overplayed, IMO. >_>

And as was just handily demonstrated, the community doesn’t tend to inspire one to stick around in the face of frustration.

In my view Legendaries should be account bound not sellable + SB

Agree with the original post.

I was honestly at the, “This probably isn’t worth it and I’m never actually going to finish getting one, but I’ll continue working towards it for now.” point regarding them, but thinking about it, I’ve been squarely pushed to the, “You know what? **** that.” point with them being ‘SB on Use’.

Ah well, as it is, I suppose I can at least be glad I don’t have the pressure of that grind to worry with anymore.

Can you make Legendaries Account bound?

Well, we now know they are soulbound… Expected as much, but still disappointing.
If I ever actually get one, it’d be the ponybow, and since my Ranger is my main, it looks like my Thief alt isn’t going to get to play with it (though it suits her better). :-(

Aren’t sylvari bodies hard anyway, since they’re made out of plantsy materials? What good are tree breasts for. :P

Maple. Syrup.
>_>

But I think they’re supposed to be fairly soft and fleshy in general. Like a stem or a vine.
I wouldn’t expect their melons would be as hard as… well… melons. <_<

Apparently in Tyria all fat accumulates at the chest region. >_>

Honestly didn’t have too much of an issue as far as weight and “thickness” goes (though more options would be grand), but the lack of a flat-chested option for humans and big humans was rather annoying. Glad I happened to favour Sylvari.

Why was this added in Patch "Equipped armor can no longer be transmuted?"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dark Saviour.9410

Dark Saviour.9410

You have to take it off, transmute it, and put it back on, AFAIK.

From what was said in another topic, it seems to have been done to stop a bug feature that allowed female characters to appear nude.

10/1 patch?

Just found out about the nude thing and that seemed amusing, but it was apparently quashed here? So, bleh.

Beyond that though, nothing particularly noteworthy for me.
Claw of Jormag fix is good though I suppose. I don’t bother with the dragons as much as I previously did, but whenever I did go there with the intention of fighting him just to see the Pact firing at an empty hill, it was a bit annoying.

Dark Saviour, when you say “unlock” you are talking about pvp recipes – exclusivelly? Is there a way to craft different “cells” in pve?

When you unlock them for PvP, it is only for PvP yes. But every item you see there is (AFAIK) available in some manner in PvE. Some of them are crafted, some are dropped skins, some are Personal Story reward skins, etc.

I miss the FoW, UW, urgoz and the Deep Length in dungeons

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Dark Saviour.9410

I did enjoy the Deep and Urgoz in the latter days of GW1, simply because after all the strategies became know, and they were more ‘trivial’, then it was like a fast-paced dungon-crawler type of thing, and by far the closest GW ever came to eliciting feelings of PSO.

UW, FoW, and DoA though? No.
FoW was easy enough and was alright for an occasional “If I’m really bored” type of run I guess, and certain areas in the DoA were alright (Torc’qa in particular), but UW and the bulk of DoA were just annoying. Better than most EotN dungeons in terms of content at least, but not what I’d genuinely consider ‘fun’.

Does no one else really miss the deck building aspect of GW1?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dark Saviour.9410

I don’t. I was never a huge fan of it, and I became less of one when it seems that all the ‘meta-builds’ came to light and it seemed the game was more balanced around those, making it more of a struggle if you wanted to do something different.

Honestly, I still prefer the PSO approach of keeping it simple, but still giving you a wide range of options in the form of distinct and different weapons. Equip a Yasminkov 7ØØØV and you can go straight damage. Want to fourth enemy HP? Use a Bringer’s Rifle. Anti-android rifle stuns. Frozen shooter freezes things. And so on.

So I like that the pool of skills has been toned down somewhat, but I do feel like we’re missing something. Traits could have filled the gap somewhat, but they really don’t give enough of a major shift in style, IMO. Same with sigils for the most part. I’d like to, in the words of Bob Ross, “make some big decisions here.” But aside from weapon-type, I don’t feel I really can.

Why did you choose the order you did?

in Personal Story

Posted by: Dark Saviour.9410

Dark Saviour.9410

I’d planned on going with the Priory since the orders were first announced, since the idea of studious scholar-monks analyzing the depths of history amidst a great library/museum just sounded amazing.

Cue the release and I find out they’re a bunch of gadget-happy inventors with a tiny library, a lecture hall, and some sort of floating database…. :-(
But I heard their missions had jumping puzzles, so I still went with them anyway…

Though Iowerth almost pushed me away entirely.
Seriously, I hate that guy. He gives a horrible (if sadly, somewhat-accurate) portrayal of the Priory, and his presence in my home-instance is not appreciated.

No problem.
As for the locker-room, Press H, select PvP (bottom icon on the left), then select “Go the Heart of the Mists”. When you’re there, look around and you’ll see some “PVP locker-room” cabinets. There, you can right-click and preview the different armour you are able to unlock.

Be prepared for a lot of “sameness” in general from medium armour. :-/

Check the PvP locker-room if you want to see what other options you have.
