Well we don’t put them in all at once of course. Maybe 1v1’s or 2v2’s.
Besides, considering the Charr’s immense firepower, there won’t be that many survivors.

Oh I wasn’t implying on there being a lot of gladiators but rather a lot of people wanting to see the survivors tear each other apart, I don’t think the arena nearly has enough space for everyone that wants to watch.

I’m surprised GW2 didn’t learn from that mistake…a single quick-access neutral hub is never a good idea from a loading screen and lag standpoint. Nobody really enjoys it, they are mainly just there because it’s so convenient (Heart Of The Mists teleport) and central.

Perhaps they sort of learned their lesson and that is they are destroying Lion’s Arch. Perhaps they need just a little extra time to tweak the racial towns to be incentive to the players of that race.

Mordremoth has her, and possibly all Sylvari who haven’t been in the machine and thus haven’t been exposed to it.

Oh it could be the Sylvari aren’t dragon minions and its something else entirely. All we know from the combat log is Mordremoth supposedly uses earth attacks, doesn’t necessary point to a Elder Dragon or Dragon Champion. It could be an entity the inquest discovered during an expedition and found it was capable of being infected with Elder Dragon energy but not be controlled by it. I don’t think the Inquest would be attempt to splice Dragon minions if they didn’t have some means of proofing them against the Elder Dragon’s control. Also Mordremoth wouldn’t be under Lion’s Arch but deeper in the jungle as he is a Jungle Dragon.

No one is being forced into WvW. Legendaries are game completion rewards. If you haven’t completed the game, so to speak, you don’t deserve a legendary.

The same logic can be applied to those within the pvp community who are groaning about being forced into PvE. Yet it seems acceptable that they can complain while the pve community is told there isn’t a problem.

I personally think you need to get a certain amount of Glory (perhaps around 50,000) as well, for a legendary, so that all 3 aspects of GW2 are represented.

Why do we need to have an item represent all 3 aspects of GW2 if the person in possession only likes one? Shouldn’t the item reflect the tastes of its owner? Shouldn’t those who like Structured PvP be able to acquire a legendary that has requirements in their favorite game mode because it reflects their interest? How about WvW community being able to acquire everything they need or want from WvW itself, wouldn’t that make them happier than feeling they are forced to endure a game mode they had no intention of playing?

I brought the game solely because I liked what I saw in the pve side, I have no intention of trying pvp since it doesn’t interest me in the least. I don’t expect to receive a Legendary, nor do I actually want one. However I do think the opposition against legendaries having requirements in all game modes has brought up excellent points.

Yes indeed! Death to that cesspool of Krait, Aetherblades and Molten Alliance! We shall root them out, and kick them out into Bloodtide Coast, where they’ll be forced to try the Wurm event over and over and OVER again! They’ll regret ever setting foot in our beloved city!

So when will the posters of Mad King Thorn pointing at us with the words “MAD KING SAYS FIGHT FOR LION’S ARCH OR DIE!” plastered on every wall in every city?

I think we are saying the same thing here.

After reading the post I have to agree we are saying similar things. However the difference is our opinion on what constitutes as trying and not trying. How to resolve the issue? I don’t really know, as any type of standard put in place would be considered “forcing” wvw onto those who don’t want to try it.

I won’t comment on the Battle definition

Edit: I will after all. If you look at it like that, you could get Battles of Honor for chatting in LA. You know, battleing the crowd and your inner deamons :P

But is arguing with random people and one’s inner daemons truly honorable? The name Gift of Battle implies a gift gain from any kind of battle. Now if it were changed to Gift of Conquest I might actually have to agree it being a pvp exclusive as we don’t see anything being conquered by the players in pve.

Retrospective: Cutthroat Politics

Darkbattlemage.9612

You’re missing all of the points.
1. Involvement: We are still involved. The war will still be, just very much tilted to our favor..

Do you have any legitimate proof of this?

If so please share, if not please accept that Evon would probably be in the same position as Ellen.

2. Here is where Evon uses his physical and financial power. Evon first and foremost is a charr. Quite alot of convincing power just in that. Try say no to a charr that’s hunched over you, breathing in your face. Secondly, if there still was a no, he can just say “Get the reinforcements or I’ll shut down the entire trade in Lion’s Arch”, which would force them to agree with him or Lion’s Arch would be set back alot economically..

There are flaws in your logic
One: In addition to Captain Ironbeard being a norn, a member of the council is a charr as well. Neither would let someone like Evon boss them around.
Two: Evon isn’t the only trade company within Tyria, the most prominent but not the sole company. If he tried this stunt with Divinity’s Reach he would succeed but to a council of pirates as enterprising as he is, he will fail horribly as they can simply back a different company that would rise to prominence. They could also simply kill him on the spot and assume control over the company, they pirates after all and it would be cutthroat politics.
Three: It would trivialize his short story as now he attempting the exact same tactic his predecessor was planning on trying, which he pointed out wouldn’t work. Evon isn’t stupid, as evident by how successful his company is, he wouldn’t resort to threats since he knows they wouldn’t work.

3. Read 2. Nobody said he would pay anything. Furthermore, the asura gates will not be destroyed, simply just relocated to Vigil Keep.

I did read your second point and pointed out flaws within it. Also since nothing of actual value to a trading company will be lost due to all of it being relocated to Vigil’s Keep, there is no motive for Evon to lift a single claw to defend Lion’s Arch. All he needs to do is ensure that he and important employees make it out of the town alive. Ellen actually has more motive to stand and defend the city to her last breath, the Lionguards purpose is to both protect trade and Lion’s Arch. Now if we were discussing the Black Citadel being besieged I would agree there is plenty of motive for Evon to make such efforts to defend it.

What? So not trying is equal to trying? No one is pushing you or forcing WvW upon you. Getting your legendary is optional, and is your choice to do so.

You’re right, no one is forcing it upon me because I simply don’t care for something as trivial as a “legendary”. The same logic can be applied to the pvp community who groan about being forced into PvE, Anet not holding a Scarlet to your head. You don’t have to go into pve, it is optional.

Anyways people have tried the game mode and found it not to their liking. Just because in your opinion they didn’t try doesn’t make it fact. This mentality is counter to what Anet hopes to accomplish with these decisions and with the WvW community’s claim of wanting more people to enter the game mode. Some people absolutely love pvp while others don’t. Then there are those who participate in PvP once in a while, such as myself, who will not find the “requirements” impose by the wvw community to their style of game play. Also as some have pointed out there is the hardware limitations of their machine to consider.

I guess Gift of Battle (battle not required) makes sense in that strange universe many people seem to live in.

Battle: To fight or contend with somebody or something.

Fighting against the A.I controlled mobs fits this definition just as well as fighting another player in pvp. I don’t see anything within its name that implies the item should be exclusive to pvp. I also don’t see why some of the wvw community is horribly against the idea of separating the two game modes, where they can acquire the things they are “forced” to play pve for within wvw itself.

Cantha Expansion

Posted by: Darkbattlemage.9612

Darkbattlemage.9612

Zaithan’s power doesn’t stretch across the Unending Ocean and never has.
“Bubbles” on the other hand is somewhere in the way.
However Cantha is not destroyed, in that case, the Zephyrites would have told us since they’re often trading with Cantha.

As it seems, the only way into Cantha would be if they ask us for a favor.
For example killing “Bubbles” that may torment them from sea.

Zhaitan’s fleet does portal the coasts of Tyria, thus we will have an armada to fight our way through. Regardless if Cantha is or isn’t destroyed they will not open their arms to a bunch of refuges, especially non-human refugees. What does a bunch of refugees from a pirate city have to offer to a xenophobic nation? Nothing of value that is worth putting an additional strain on their resources. Also the Zephyrites would mention if Cantha was having any sort of difficulty, such as a Elder Dragon attack. So a Cantha expansion isn’t likely at this time.

That’s highly unlikely given the petrification was a result of the Jade Wind which Shiro unleashed in 872 AE. The Kurzicks declared independence in 459BE – and most probably resided in Echovald Forest from that point on if they had not already. So that’s a pretty long time in which the trees were not petrified. I’d think the Canthan’s might have had some stories about the Sylvari if they had ever existed there.

Oh ok, just came to that conclusion since the trees appeared to be roughly the same size of the Pale Tree.

Friend think you do not know the whole story Cantha not fully destriuda now what would be another best time for an expansion

Zhaitan’s undead navy still holds control over that region, to our knowledge, and who knows what other undersea horrors the Sea Dragon has sent swimming in our direction. I think it best for the refugees of Lion’s Arch take to the land not the sea. Also the last time Cantha invited anyone was because of Master Togo asking for Mhenlo’s assistance in combating a plague. So by the looks of it Cantha will only be willing to even speak with outsiders if there is something for them.

As for the Zephyrites trading with them, it still leaves the possibility that Cantha is in no position to accept refugees.

That’s a misconception, the quote doesn’t necessary imply she always had whatever she saw in her mind only that it was already inside her mind when she entered the machine. It is possible it a demon or another Mist entity that possessed her and was trapped by her Sylvari physiology.

Is it possible that one was at Cantha and became petrified? I remember the cinematic for Factions showing some of the trees to be exceptionally large, some were carved into housing. Could it be they were once Sylvari Trees that had yet grown to the state of their cycle they produced Sylvari?

Evon’s a businessman couldn’t he simply officially list this “private army” as a caravan protection service that the Black Lion Trade Company is offering as a means to relieve the stains that Scarlet has placed upon the Lionsguard. The Captain’s Council could of probably have no problem with this, as their primary concern is ensuring trade flows. With Scarlet occupying the bulk of the Lionsguard there would be an opportunity for bandits and such to gather in force and strike remote havens without fear of reinforcements or immediate retaliation from the Lionsguard.

Incorrect the Living Story would still have the same end result we just be given alternative clues to Scarlet’s plans through the Fractal about Abaddon’s Fall. New theory on Scarlet

in Lore

Posted by: Darkbattlemage.9612

Darkbattlemage.9612

So it comes down to this I suppose, either all Sylvari have this piece of their mind from exiting the Dream that is walled off for their own protection, or something possessed Scarlet and…. carefully walled itself off? Why would an entity that took possession of someone wall itself off until the individual it possessed entered a machine that broke down the very wall that itself put up?…… Yeah, so it’s definitely option A: All Sylvari have this in their mind.

Actually it can be option B but not in the way you thinking of. Sylvari have a unique physiology so who to say this doesn’t make them resistant to possession? It is possible that she encountered this being during the time period between her banishment from Rata Sum and being part of Omadd’s experiment but simply doesn’t remember it due to her Sylvari physiology locking it away in the deep recesses of her mind.

Evon would have gotten the defense done with his power if nothing else and since Kiel can’t, Cutthroat Politics now result in the destruction of Lion’s Arch and the rise of a bigger threat.
Good job, Kiel voters. Good job.
So much for cheaper waypoints.

Evon wouldn’t of done anything different for three reasons.

One there has to be a reason for us to get involved, if he had Lion’s Arch well defended there be no need for us to be there.

Secondary the Captain’s Council is in charge of Lion’s Arch, which means all or the majority of captains must be in agreement. If this wasn’t the case the Lionsguard would probably be constructing additional defenses as well as holding recruitment drives.

Lastly why use his own resources to defend a town that’s nothing to him except being the current headquarters of his store? He can relocate it to the Black Citadel if he wanted, or any city for that matter, as trade will still flow. Of course it will be longer for supplies to be delivered since the Asura portals will be destroyed, but as he is an enterprising Charr he probably recruit some Gladium to hire out as caravan guards in between Lionsguard havens.

That’s an option I had not considered yet. I wish there was some way to link the letter E to her though, but the whole “Mister E / Mystery” thing makes it just as likely that it’s a play on words. So the letter need not be related to the name of the sender at all.

Demmi is however a character prominent in the human personal storyline (that’s assuming the player has made it this far in the PS.) In fact, that may be a point against her, that she is heavily involved with part of the PS, as this would kind of derail the timeline if she were Mister E.

If I had to put money on it though, I would still go with Prince Edair, like Konig suggested. But Demmi is a good second option.

Some of the living story content has been confirmed, on the wiki anyways, to take place after Zhaitan’s defeat so it actually wouldn’t interfere with the Personal Story anymore than the other living story content already has.

Dependable and obedient soldiers do not make good leaders. They make dependable and obedient soldiers. This is primarily because making a soldier dependable and obedient requires them to be trained not to make decisions or question authority.

What if Captain Magnus Ironbeard didn’t pick Ellen for her leadership qualities but simply because of her loyalty to the Lionsguard? Her vote would probably be the same as Captain Magnus, which does give him an advantage during decisions where each of the other captains have voted for their ideal.

Ruthless businesscats who have a financial empire to protect? They make great leaders though, since their intense desire to protect themselves will also mean they are protecting those around them and they have a long history of making very good decisions (which is how they built their financial empire). Sure, they may be corrupt and greedy, but who in government isn’t?

A business that would survive the loss of Lion’s Arch and may even benefit from the destruction of the city. If there is no Captain’s Council to enact their will then there is a power void that needs to be filled, who better than a enterprising businessman? His rivals would be devastated, if not outright destroyed by the attack, giving an opportunity for his company to absorb their assets. He now has full uncontested control of a city that serves as the center of trade between the five races, which would make him gold hand over fist.

Long story short: Don’t send a white knight into government and expect anything to change, other than that white knight becoming either a pawn or a stained knight.

Also don’t send a corrupted and greedy businessman into government and expect them to keep any of their promises or to bring about change.

With the Human gods having essentially abandoned Tyria, I’d doubt Abaddon has much to do with any of this. (Why would they leave if Abaddon was still around?)

They left the world shortly after imprisoning Abaddon in the realm of Torment.

Anyways since the apostate mention that Abaddon gained his powers from an older depose god, it is possible the current human gods aren’t the only god-like beings lurking around in the Mists. Perhaps Ceara encountered an avatar or a minion of one of these beings that tried to possess her but became trap due to the Sylvari’s physiology being different from humans. When she entered the sense deprivation machine the blocks put in place by her Sylvari nature were undone and the entity then exerted its influence.

As for the dragon drawing it could be the entity is manipulating her into thinking that the Elder Dragons are the key to her own salvation or perhaps to intentionally mislead us into thinking they are responsible, thus keeping its existence a secret.

We would not be told this if it was completely untrue.

We are told by Kasmeer and Marjory that Scarlet plans to attack Lion’s Arch, which we knew already. That should end any doubt right there. It is literally confirmed twice that Lion’s Arch will be attacked.

I was referring to the Jungle Dragon part as it has been thrown onto every action Scarlet has done without much evidence to support.

Searching for Leylines doesn’t necessary mean she looking for an Elder Dragon, because if they actual fed directly on the Leylines then there wouldn’t be much reason for their armies to attack us until the Leylines have been completely exhausted. Perhaps she hopes to disturb the Leylines to create an chaotic storm of magical energy via introducing Elder Dragon corrupted magical energy into the Leylines. Since they crisscross the globe in other settings it would be an effective means to “burn the world”. Or as I mention earlier it could be possible those Probes aren’t just detectors and have an additional purpose. A bomb seems likely given how troublesome the adventurers, us players, have been for he last year or so to her plans. While we haven’t truly dealt her any significant defeat, that she has confirmed, it is possible she does take us as a potential threat that must be neutralize when we no longer of use. Deceiving us into thinking she will strike at Lion’s Arch will be a perfect means of dealing with a good number of us in one swoop.

Scarlet attacks Lion’s Arch, everyone fights, Scarlet gets killed, Jungle Dragon gets revealed.

As a hoax all along.

On a serious note I don’t think the jungle dragon is connected to the living story, nor do I think a Elder Dragon is behind Scarlet. I also don’t think there will be a battle for Lion’s Arch. How do we know those probes are just probes and don’t have any additional purpose? They could be bombs she developed that would link up with the Leylines and inject Elder Dragon Energy into them causing a similar event to the Thaumanova reactor? That would be a far more effective means of dealing with Lion’s Arch. It is possible all the clues we found thus far have been intentionally left by Scarlet to have us all gather at a single location in preparation for this major battle where we will be wiped out by this Thaumanova Bomb. Then she can accomplish her true objectives in relative peace as a significant portion of her opposition would of been destroyed by the blast.

Do you think this might be a possibility?
I know that there can’t be a definitive answer at this point (the whole purpose of my idea was to turn her into more of a wild card, so this is to be expected), but I’m curious as to whether people consider it a possibility.

Does anybody know whether you would be able to feel it anyway when that other person hasn’t used magic recently? Can you “suppress” the magic aura you give off? (More general questions, not necessarily related to the Livia theory)

The energies emanating from a Lich have been normally described as concentrated necromantic energies in other sources. However since Livia comes from a time where the people would often pick up a secondary profession, it is possible she chose mesmer and utilized its spells to deceive Marjory into thinking there was no necromantic energy emanating from herself.

Since mesmer magic has been included as a possible tool of this E, nothing can be ruled out until we have confirmation that Mesmer magic is not used by this E or that Marjory possesses a extraordinary amount of willpower that she is able to resist such magic.

Now I can clearly see that rather than reduced BL Keys, Evon should have given a free Fused or Aetherized weapon claim ticket.

He would have clearly succeeded in beating Kiel with this method.

Maybe he would of won, maybe he still wouldn’t. Even after his short story was released he still seems to have ulterior motives that wouldn’t be in the best interest of Lion’s Arch. Yes he intervene when his warband leader was going to attempt to extort money from the citizens, but that was only because he felt their objective could be better completed through his method. What his short story showed was he is willing to kill if necessary to accomplish his goals, but what exactly is his warband’s orders and is he even still following them?

Ellen Kiel on the other hand was presented as a dependable and obedient soldier who tackles problems with a head on approach. Yes the cheaper waypoint fee was a good incentive but it alone wouldn’t have made much of a difference if Evon was presented in a way that didn’t make him seem a villain.

And then all of Lion’s Arch would be fully prepared for the impending attack.

Actually Lion’s Arch will still be unprepared as Captain Magnus would probably have the weapons confiscated from the citizens due to both the possibility of the weapons being misused by certain individuals within the town as well as their being some designed flaw within them Scarlet could exploit. Lion’s Arch unpreparedness seems to be deliberately planned.

This isn’t one of those things that can be quickly discussed and suddenly people will change their minds from one side to the other. Either you consider same-sex dating to be fine or even normal, or you consider it not to be. And either you think it’s just adding a note of realism to the world lore or you think it’s in there to shout a message (which message you may or may not agree with).

You are slightly inaccurate as there is a third group, a minority but still a recognizable group. This group belief doesn’t concern the morality or whatever one wants to spin the argument about homosexuality but rather they want video games to remain a free haven from the real world where they can relax and have fun without worrying about being forced to pick one side or the other.

This is a belief I actually find myself gravitating towards with each passing day as I play video games to relax. Some of the complains about Marjory and Kasmeer’s relationship seems to because it has instigated an argument over a topic that is under the political microscope.

So Anet shouldn’t show people of color in their stories either because it makes some people (racists) uncomfortable?

To be honest I initially replied to this but deleted the reply, feeling I didn’t spend adequate time on the matter. However I have to stand by initial reaction and say this is a rather poor counter argument. Now that I have reread it several times I feel it sole purpose was to troll.

@Darkbattlemage.9612: The Elder Dragons actually have shown just about no capability of accessing the Mists. Jormag can access the Mists, by all indications, solely through the Sons of Svanir. Zhaitan was capable of pulling a soul (or many) from the Mists, but this may not be Zhaitan himself doing it, but one of his minions much like Jormag.

Oh they not actually accessing the mists, I was under the impression from my time playing a Norn in the last beta before release that Jormag was directly accessing the mists to send in his Sons of Svanir minions to prevent the rescue of that shaman. Thanks for clearing that up.

Any race can see it.

The Seventh Reaper: The keeper of this shrine has fallen to Zhaitan. Grenth wishes him returned, but I am too weak to perform the task. Destroy the keeper, and I will aswer your questions.

Avatar of Grenth: Destroy the corruption. Return the soul of the keeper. Go.

There’s nothing to suggest the Elder Dragons’ origins are in any way shape or form related to any deity – Six Gods or otherwise.

Well that explains why I don’t know it I haven’t gotten to that point in the personal story yet.

I’m not suggesting the two have any direct relation with one another, as in the gods exist to counter the Elder Dragons, but rather if both of them originally originated in the Mists or a different realm entirely. Since the Elder Dragons have shown at least minor capability of accessing the Mists perhaps they originated within that realm or at one point had crossed through it.

That is nowhere near the direction I was trying to go.

Besides, we know that Grenth and Zhaitan are enemies from the personal story. And we know that the Six Gods aren’t even related to Tyria’s distant past. They first walked the world after the last dragon rise (or arguably, during, depending on if you believe the Priory or the other evidence).

Is that learned in the human personal story or am I forgetting something?

Anyways ok my hypothesis of the various gods working alongside the Elder Dragons as a means to restock the buffet was false. Is it still possible that if the Elder Dragons are indeed beings composed of magical energy then their origins may be connected to the origins of the various gods?

What if Konig Des Todes is onto something. What if the Elder Dragons aren’t actually dragons but are some kind of living magical beings, similar to the Gods. Perhaps that is why the gods became silent, these being predate even the most ancient of gods and thus are more powerful than them. Or perhaps the gods serve these beings by resowing the “crops” after the previous feast. The reason why the races are allowed to build and resist is maybe the Elder Dragons believe themselves to superior that they find it amusing.

I just have a lot of feelings about Logan and Jennah ok.

I know this will be viewed as off topic but I got this idea from your long post. Could it be possible that Jennah is the personal nemesis I read several individuals claim Anet promised? Could it be also possible that Scarlet also fell victim to Jennah’s manipulations and that was why the Arcane Council permitted her to study at their esteem colleges? Perhaps this is why Scarlet has attempted at least on one occasion to attack the queen.

Some of us actually enjoy stories that make us uncomfortable; pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones is how we grow as a person.

I would like to point out that the argument of “Why should the entire GW2 player base be limited to what you like” can be used against you and those of the same mindset. Why should those who don’t wish to leave their comfort zone be forced to just because a few individuals actually find such content enjoyable? Why must those who have a problem with a certain type of content be forced to be silent simply because the content is connected to political agendas?

If one truly wishes to “grow as a person” then wouldn’t having a intellectual debate on the matter accomplish more than playing the actual content?

I know there will be individuals who will try and make themselves sound noble or righteous, but in reality the answer is quite simple. Everyone is selfish, just not in the same manner. Those of similar interests or mentalities will group together and proclaim their supposed superior simply because they now working in a group. In reality this is a temporary alliance, nothing more and nothing less, as once the goal has been achieved the group begins to splinter and turn on itself.

sylvari servants of Mordremoth?

Darkbattlemage.9612

The Nightmare Court-Inquest partnership actually had nothing to do with Scarlet. The “offshoot” of the Court working in the Steamspurs had an agreement going where they’d trade their husks, and probably hounds, to the Inquest in exchange for sylvari prisoners. I agree that they’d be unlikely to trust one of their own to Inquest hands.

I wasn’t sure if they had an agreement prior to Scarlet’s appearance or after so I flipped a coin and got tails, thus I went with Scarlet was responsible. Thank you for the clarification.

I wish we could repeat that freeing ritual done on a chicken in one of the Arah paths on a nightmare being, maybe even a sylvari from the nightmare court… I am sure we can convince some Asura, for science!

Seeing how the ritual hasn’t been suggest being perform on the Sylvari seems to suggest that even in the in-universe the Sylvari are not considered dragon minions. It is likely the Inquest used nightmare hounds and such due to their connection with Sylvari and the partnership Scarlet made between them and the Nightmare Court. I’m sure the Sylvari would of responded in a violent manner to the inquest capturing even the nightmare variants, given how in the dream you do see some of the cruel treatment inflicted upon the Sylvari by several Asura.

Which has always amused me, seeing as arachnids are not insectoid. Are they saying spiders are superior to insects? That would explain a lot…

I’d like to see something along the lines of Apocrita, but alas, ANet’s stance is “it’s been done”.

Perhaps Arachnia was the god the insectoids sacrificed regularly to in order to keep it appeased. Perhaps Arachnia was a destroyer god that their legends spoke of destroying the world once its feast was halted. I better stop now before I either get carried away or kick in my Arachnophobia.

Well from the original game’s gw.dat there were mention of Arachnia who was one of the gods of an insectoid race, perhaps they will build upon that hook and develop a full race of insectoid creatures.
