Downstate is not terrible, it adds a layer of balance. If you don’t get why, then instead of retaliating against thief who insta downs you from 75% hp, just let him stomp.

I don’t think he’s arguing for a buff to all classes just warrior (given his post history.). who can already switch faster with their balanced tree…

I’d love this on my mesmer, and you would hate it.

Weaponswitch adds a level of strategy to many classes..

Thief Mesmer Ranger even warriors would become way to ridiculous with 0 cooldown weaponswitches you would have to make every class have longer cooldowns to compensate…. and some Trees would have to be reworked (Warrior;Balance) to add buffs.

It’d be like destroying class balance in one fell swoop… you’d have to redo the system from the bottom up.

Like either a hard CD as in you are only able to switch every 10 seconds.
Or a soft CD 0.25 Seconds of CD after switching

Internal CDs on switching their attunments.
You can Attunement switch into Blazing speed into an attunement swap to Earthquake for instance.

I’ve been saying this for a while.. Nerf Asura, make their weapons 25% bigger, and their size 25% bigger in sPVP if they are ultra tiny asura.

Totally Serious, this is definitely one of the worst parts of TPVP for me, I hate those little rat people with all my heart.

Also nerfing the elementalist; That’s their class mechanic.. it’s supposed to be instant just like the mesmer shatters are instant…. if you add a CD to ele attunements ele will become tied for Lowest tier.

This thread pops up quite frequently…. so my response may seem a little harsh but you don’t actually want a response you want people to agree with you, you should have put it into suggestions.

This is a team game, if you don’t want to play a team game you might want to start playing wuvwuv instead.

Yes a team is required if you want to win free-tournys consistently,
because the meta is tryhards..

It’s very easy to get into a team, you send people tells they send you tells back, or you spam your 5-6 guilds “LF1M for tourny” .

QQing isn’t going to fix anything, go out and interact with people…

Let me sum up this post: “no one should ever pug because it’s a team game.”

If that were true, paids would be popping constantly and should be the only real game mode. After all, paids are team vs team. Wait, hold on—there are constant free tourneys filled with 7 pugs/1 premade. Paids come up once or twice every couple nights during prime time? Huh. Too bad everyone is doing it wrong. Well, while you wait for everyone to stop solo queueing, you could always queue for a paid.

People just want exciting matches. Those happen three ways—pug vs pug, premade vs premade, and pug vs bad premade.

You already have 5v5 solo que, in the Form of 5v5hotjoin, you just want a chest attached to it.

Don’t sum up things which are already coherently and simply written it’s foolish to do so.

“You need a team to win Consistently " + " It’s Easy To get a team"=
No one Should QQ about pugging and getting stomped by a premade.

Captain 20/20 hindsight says “If you didn’t want to lose to a premade, you shouldn’t have pugged”

What about the people who want to play with their friends?
Screw those people right? 2 or 4 guys who want to pug tournys aren’t of concern to you, if the pvp population is split between solo que and premade all you’ll end up getting is longer ques and a dispersed population and you’ll also make it harder on anyone who wants to que tournies with friends, because everyone is playing either TEAM v TEAM or SOLO vs SOLO.. no in betweens.

False, Paid tournys don’t pop over free tournys cause free tournys are free, no one is going to pug anything that has a loss associated with it. Shiiiiit,
Teams don’t que paids because it’s too much of a loss at their skill level..
If you decreased paid tourny pries to 1 ticket per person, I guaruntee paid tournies would pop all day.

Why would pugs do it ?

bro are you serious? does anet pay you? you keep posting the same garbage over and over . my friends list went from 30 to 0 of pvp only players. why? because this game offers kitten for mid level players. the sooner you realize this the sooner you will stop posting this game is great nonsense.

tldr for the dense and blind. people dont want to have to spam tells to ranom people to be able to enjoy matchea with equally skilled players if they did the pvp population wouldnt be on the verge of death.

Game is fine; ques are fast, I can soloque/pug all day and still have enjoyable matches without winning everytime and sometimes getting stomped by a premade.

That’s too bad about your friends, people quit the game did you really expect all your friends to keep playing as long as you ? People have lives kitten to do, etc.

You refuse to move on, find new people to play with, that’s really great for you but that doesn’t mean the game is dying. My friends list has grown and grown.. a lot of people don’t play full time pvp, that’s not a bad thing, there’s more to this game then just pvp…

I really wish guildwars2 devs would release some stats on the population so we could stop having these discussions it’s either one way or the other.

For me it’s slightly different.. I think Ele/Guard needs to be brought down slightly, thief/war needs slight buffs (Not in Dps/Maneuver) Necro/Engi Could use a bit of extra love for their (Necro)maneuverability and (Engi)Dps.

Tiers;
Elementalist=Guardian TOP
Mesmer=Ranger HIGH
Thief=Warrior / Necro=Engineer MID

I would rate Ele/Guard strongest in all fields;
Maneuverability Support 1v1 Bunker DPS

Mesmer/ranger only slightly less strong in all Fields

Thief/War very strong but not quite as strong as Mesmer/Ranger
Quite strong in Maneuver/DPS . Not as much in 1v1 Bunker.

Necro/Engi Very Very Strong DPS/Bunker On Par with Warrior/thief in 1v1
Definitely Not even close to maneuverability/evasion of Thief/Warrior

You might have a better chance for the other items Gloryboosters/Stomps/Dyes

You might not… I wish there was a comprehensive test on this but from what I have seen is you get a lot less rare/sliver items to complete your collection and salvage.

So, for me collecting things is one of my motivations for spvp I like having stuff I don’t want (lol?)

I buy 20 chests every 10 ranks just for the good feels… maybe i should buy 100 copper chests instead..

I could take a crack at the math based on some wild assumptions;

200 per chest is 20k Glory for 100 chests, assuming you get
10 rares(10% drop rate* Up to 3 Slivers per item and 1/9 chance to get) 20 uncommons(20% Drop rate* Up to 3 Crystals per item and 1/6 chance to get)
400 Commons(@3-5 per chest, Up to 3 Orbs per Item, and 1/3 chance to get)

Maybe ~3 slivers ~10 crystals ~400 orbs in 100 chests if you salvage everything.

That’s like 28 Salvage kits at 200 per and 16+~ converters at 1k per for the orbs if you actually want to get some decent sliver numbers.

Whereas 20 chests is 20 rares 40 uncommons 40 Commons
6 slivers 20 crystals 40 orbs
5 salvage kits and really 2 converters max.

Again this math is shoddy at best and taken mostly from playing and salvaging a lot of tournament chests the last time I actually did do a 20 copper chest salvage run I got one rare so the math is VERY inflated.

I dunno, I kinda like that pve and pvp is totally seperate, I don’t feel like I’m losing gold in PVP because… gold is useless to me.

They need to make the glory system actually work as a rewards system…
Right now I’m sitting on 130k glory and there’s nothing to do with it.

Instead of ostracizing these people you should instead take the time out to help them out, send a friendly tell explaining that tpvp is team based and he’s only hurting himself by hurting the team, instead of NOOBS LOL L2PLAY GETOUT

Instead of systems punishing people, we need systems which foster the PVP population , maybe mentorships which increase glory gain for higher ranked players.

If you’re not interested in helping new players don’t aggravate the situation.
Want to hardcore tpvp? I suggest you find a team, Pugging is just going to aggrevate you.

Nice one westibone, I’ve been toying around the same type of idea but with a Late illusionary leap,

iLeap, Summon Warden, Change, BR , Daze, Mirror , Mindwrack.

It works better when they’re already dodging the early illusionary leap…

But your combo is pretty tight . Late temporal curtain if they don’t run away is great.

That’s a L2Play issue Sirendor, anyone out of hotjoin has been taught to stand on node and 5 cap it, it’s like they think they cap faster or something.

Ultimately that gets resolved after the person realizes he gets more fun actually getting past round one.

No one is actually changing how staff works yet….
No devs have bothered to comment on a thread spanning 3 pages, therefore this is probably not on their radar.

In fact, in the podcast they said they’d be buffing single target classes and weapons which are UP rather then destroying already working weapons.

Which Melee actually has a problem keeping up with mesmer?..
You can offensively roll the distance the mesmer Phaseretreated to, it’s 400 meters.
YES you have to interrupt your channeled ability, but so does the mesmer sometimes(blurred frenzy in thin air).

Illusionary leap should be left alone, I don’t know why you think we should destroy one of the mesmer’s mainstays in dps and why the sword is actually a useful weapon It Is the way the mesmer applies atleast 25% of his dps… infact it is indispensible to setting up burst combos, yet it can be moved out of dodged etc, just how the mesmer can move out of the warriors 4 button kill combo.

Nerf iLeap which fails on anyone standing on a rock, is counterable and dodgeable, destroy the sword as a viable main hand weapon.

Phase retreat is strong in many situations , you have to stop DPSing and basically put any combo you have planned on hold when you frantically switch to staff, and jam two. Guess what it’s not as instant as you think , the bulk of the damage from 100b will probably still go through, leaving the mesmer in a shoddy state of disrepair.

What you’re asking for isn’t fairness, almost all classes have access to instant abilities which work during stun grant damage mitigation/movement.

You’re asking to Destroy staff, AND sword, some of our most powerful weapons, with no real reasoning.

Mesmer is a cloth wearing class with 16k-20k hp with access to PR and Distortion as his means of survival, Staff is defensive it is not offensive as noted by the massive cooldowns.

Which “Melee” you keep mentioning does PR actually work effectively against?

Thieves? Nope they just have to jam 2 one more time, or switch to SB and ping if they’re low.

Warriors? Your shield has a movement that’s almost equivalent to the distance of PR
Your Greatsword has 2 abilities which gap close. You can have 2 utilities which gap close. You can offensively dodge just like the mesmer to gap close.

100nades Engineer? You might not be able to do a cheap insta gib combo, but you can still apply most of your dps.

Ranger? Ranger has tons of gapclosers and cheap dodges don’t even start that kitten. He can even switch to ranged.

Melee necro? ….maybe.. but you can still gapclose with DS cripples/chills etc.

Your build doesn’t work in 100% of all situations? Tough, I have to switch out my utilities based on the opposing team, why would there be a one build beats all for your class?

If you know you’re going to fight a defensive mesmer at close put in a gap closer.
10 seconds is a long time to wait when your opponent is on top of you.

Illusionary leap onto another person and still remain stunned, effectively making Blurred frenzy do 0 damage to the target as he is free to go….

It’s a 400 foot at max movement, and fails often and MUST be set up Prior to your well placed skull crack_ AND_ requires a second target.

Pretty sure Phase retreat does not break stun but only moves you as well, as there is a lag time before you are able to use skills again, long enough to GS 3/5 into GS2…

These skills do not stunbreak.. they are instants.. just like the other instant skills..
In fact steal can do the same thing, as it moves you to the second target.

Not sure why you’re argueing as if Mesmer is not melee, as most mesmers certainly are.

I get that we have a weapon with a unique ability, but It’s a very defensive weapon.. and heavily changed and moved around since beta..

I guess no one cares that the Deserter system is so easily circumvent-able and actually CREATES more malicious behavior such as feeding, while doing nothing to stop anyone who actively wants to give up.

If a Match was 30 minutes or even 15 minutes (Maximum till time out for current matches) the deserter system might work, you’d have to actually put some effort into escaping, a macro at randomly generated intervals for instance..

Quick loss matches go for 4-5 minutes average, it’s not a big deal to feed the other team and get the timer to drop to 2 minutes.

Phase retreat would be terrible if you couldn’t use it to MOVE somewhat out of range during stun, (not break stun).

You’re talking about making 100b warriors Burst Elementalists and thieves SUPER effective at killing mesmers instantly and without any resistance, Guess what happens when you blink and they just gap close again?

God knows going invisible or making 2 clones right under a warrior does almost nothing for your chances of survival, What about our other survival utilities, we don’t have any? Where’s our 5 seconds of Block 5 seconds of endure pain 5 seconds of Elixer twice?

Want to blow that distortion? Get rid of all your clones for dps and survive an extra 3-4 seconds if you somehow had 3 clones at the start of the fight?

Fine, NEXT combo, Warrior/thief dps doesn’t stop and needs effective counters otherwise cloth classes explode.

Mesmers are supposed to slip through your fingers, that’s their Class base as outlined by the devs.

Why would you put a punishment on hotjoin? It’s hotjoin for pete’s sake! will you punish everybody who leaves a game? What about tournament ques during hotjoin?

I think the initial idea was for tournaments, punishing anyone who leaves a hotjoin match would be even harder, how do you know when you can leave? :/ only at the beginning and the start of a game?

This idea actually makes the current system (Wait 3 minutes) Much better

It eliminates a problem which can occur that’s not malicious i.e people who went to sleep.

This also might solve the problem of people switching characters in order to counter other teams before the next map... which Imho isn’t intended.

Everyone says they’re ready within one minute and the first round begins(in like 10-20s)

This sounds extremely good on paper, the problem might be implementing it.

Why are you bringing engineers into this?..

Ranger has dodges on his weapon afaik, Thief has Shortbow dodge, Warrior/guardian has Shield or mace blocks, Engineer can daze with their shield..

Each class has a defensive weapon they can use, Staff is mesmer’s Defensive weapon.

I think a better system would be to force all 64 players to click an “accept” button before the tournament is officially “starts.” If only 61 players click the “accept” button within 1 minute, the game finds 3 other solo-queue players and fills the slots.

This sounds like a solid idea, I hope Anet is looking at this thread because this would be pretty great if implemented.

Afkers aren’t a big problem in this game.. wake up and smell the coffee,

90% of games I pug no one leaves, people even play 4v5
When someone doesn’t show up because they logged.

Are you suggesting we punish those people? Would you like them to get a 20 minute debuff as they log back in? People who have forgotten they were in a que and left their computer on? Or malicious persons which sit in spawn when they’re losing, or log off?

Who is a 20 minute debuff going to work against exactly?

The only people I could see being targeted(Ineffectively) by the system are people who afk in spawn after their team starts losing badly and want to que again after the match.

So they sit in spawn, and consequently you get 3capped, you were being kittened on before but at 4v5 it’s just child’s play.

So 3 cap=3 points per second = 180 seconds max, 3 minute game.

This means that the penalty has to effect people staying in one position for more then 1-2 minutes, i.e someone went for a emergency bathroom break, that’s who’s going to get effected.

How Easy is it to Circumvent this system? How Likely are people to do so?

Real easy. Just Feed the enemy, Press numlock, and alt tab every minute or so.
Run around in circles in spawn for 3 minutes, big deal.

Why would they remove a system that’s already in place? Especially one so easy to circumvent? It doesn’t bother anyone enough, and removing it would be like admitting defeat. If anything they can advertise Hey! We solved Afk/Deserters, Check out our system! Meanwhile it does nothing.

I played War, I played Wow, Deserter system did nothing.

GW2 Should work to foster the PVP population, hitting people with a deserter debuff isn’t going to do that, infact it’ll have a negative effect, People WILL start feeding, anyone who’s malicious will just circumvent the system, only accidental or needed afks will be punished.

Engineer is subpar for Powerr, only because he plays Ele and he plays it well, Ele is ULTRA Dominant right now, if d/d s/d builds get looked at then I think he’ll be singing a different tune.

Dear OP;

Things which are ruining tpvp;

1. Portal, The mythical beast which is great when it’s run against your team but you’re not clever enough to run yourself for some reason.

Let’s try to counter it instead of whining shall we?
Trap Ranger; Multiple traps, dead mesmer.

Necro: Staff and Wells as soon as mesmer+Friends pop to die

Ele; 1v1? Fightan, 2v1, stay for 3 seconds for port to disappear, Gtfo You can easily traverse the entire map, your team is going to have a lot of fun on the other node which is now under defended.

Thief; Stealth or Sword 2 out, come back decap and harass the mesmer.

Engineer; Say hello to all my little friends.

Warrior; You might even 100b before the mesmer gets unlagged.

Mesmer; Chaos storm, Pull back into chaos storm Daze , Mindwrack GG.
Or just stealth/blink away from 2v1.

Guardian; Bunk and LoL.

2. WHAT..? A good 5 bunker team would almost certainly lose against a good team..
2 Bunkers 2 balanced and a spiker is probably optimal. Try it, get 5 bunkers, it’s going to work on noobs and noobteams.

Also, Engineer is a good class…

Punishments for Leaving matches was left out of guildwars2 on purpose, these systems don’t work, they add nothing to the game and sometimes function to hurt players.

I say nay… and this should be in suggestions.

They dont work? says who? something like deserter debuff exists in every mmo i have ever played and for a very good reason.Only risk of aggravating someone is to have dc or computer crash and when you log back in you have a deserter debuff but dc or game crashing is something that occurs on a very rare occasion, while purposely quitting the game is something that happens very often in this game solely because there is no consequence to leaving the game whenever you please.This is an MMO not a single player your decisions and actions influence quality of gameplay of other people drastically especially in pvp and especially in pvp with mechanics like downed. Jesus Christ what is wrong with you people?

They don’t work, says anyone who’s ever played a game with a deserter debuff, WoW Warhammer, any game that has utilized a system like this has not had any success in fighting AFKs or Deserters.

Guildwars2 Got it right the first time, you get points for doing things, which most games ignore, defending killing contesting; Maybe the defense portion of glory gain is a little weak compared to assault but it’s still a decent system, you get nothing for AFKing.

The only real problem with DCing out of a downed state is it might rob people of the points for a kill, and this should be looked at, as I’m pretty sure I taken tournament invites out of a certain death situation and the guy got gypped.

What’s wrong with “you people”?
You’re living in a dream world if you think implementing a deserter debuff is going to stop afking/quitting or even discourage it, it will however effect normal people who get DC’d or have to go to the bathroom for more then 3 minutes.

Sounds like a terrible idea at first, the way I Imagine it from your standpoint 5,000 glory for 100, gems means it’s set price, probably from an npc right?

Anet really wants to give their gems away :P

How about instead, it’d be a market like the gold>Gems Market, Players can sell their gems for glory if there are people willing to buy glory with gems, But why would they want that? Glory is useless!

Create a use for glory, say 135,000 glory weapons or armor you can buy for PVP.
or Just add the ability to buy upper tier glory armor/weapons for ridiculous prices (WITHOUT CHANGING HOW CHESTS WORK)

Allow Glory to be spent on dyes or other things also at hefty prices, Even it out so the ipo for gems is like 20k per 100gems and you need a bunch of glory to buy a skin.
People buy Gems to buy glory skins, Anet is happy, The market economy isn’t flooded with gold, Pvpers get a nice source of gems, business is good Anet devotes more time to sPvP, more people play and buy gems for Spvp because now there’s more game modes and lots of fun times for all, etc

Only Mesmers are defending the mesmer class! They are biased! Guess what, it works both ways, you’re biased against mesmers because you’re not a mesmer.

Have you ever thought that Mace warrior wasn’t supposed to beat a shatter mesmer?
This game isn’t balanced so your build wins every fight.

1v1, One clean hit from Greatsword(3) after phase retreating from a Bullsrush/skullcrack (Still stunned can’t dodge) takes me to half health.

Please explain to me why the only reliable ability out of instagib needs to be nerfed?

Yes, That 2 seconds of dps would have killed the mesmer, again, tell me about your skill cap.

Also, the mesmer is not the best source of sustained DPS, the d/d Ele is.

You can always tell which mesmer is which there’s so many tells; if he goes invis it’s the last one out of invis, and its always going to have black smoke at his feet.

Sustained damage = Phantasms.
Burst damage = Multiple burst combos, such as Have 3 Bubbles up Cry of Frustration, Mirror Images dodge Mind Wrack.

For instance.

If you hit a guardian with your full burst while they are above 75% hp, he will laugh, and heal to full, you have to set up a burst combo, and even disable the guard so he is unable to evade a full burst after he’s been dps’d down to 70%~.

Just so you know, Sigil ofHydromancy and Energy share a cooldown, it is essentially useless to have both.

Also, Runes of the soldier + svanir, instead of runes of earth? :/

100b can’t beat staff mesmer? QQ

Why Do you think that Staff even has “Phase retreat” , It’s not “Phase Get 100b’d to death” all it does is move you, you are still unable to move if you’re immobilized or stunned.

You’re just trying to dumb down the game so the only class that’s playable is Instagib.

Lol? Why would they nerf shatter? They’ve never even hinted at it, AOE nerfs most problably mean Necro/Ele, Even if they did nerf shatter, the new meta is actually a hybrid between shatter/phant.

When they fix Deceptive evasion, Illusionary Leap, THEN we should talk about nerfing shatter.

Teleporting into Clocktower Battle of Kyhlo.

I can teleport from the bottom floor, outside of the clock tower, to about one meter from the node inside, Is this intended? Can I use this and not be banned?

It is a very specific spot, but can be executed repeatedly with enough practice; just as the teleport at henge to the top of a rock formation in Spvp map Forest of Nilhel.

Also one more while we’re at it, Downed Elementalists can use Portals while in mistform, Intended?

Please advise, I like these mechanics, but I feel as though they may be slightly gamebreaking.
