I think the Mesmers just have to give up on using portal and focus on making a new build. Playing Mesmer the way EVERYONE plays it and then complaining that it can’t sustain in team fights is just so self-defeatist to me.

If Mesmers really want to be in teams, they should start dropping what they feel is the status quo and going yolo swag to see what works.

People are winning matches without the use of portal. You really have to ask yourself if portal is so necessary with that fact in mind.

Mesmers are taken because they do AoE Power Damage, Boon Strip and Portal. If you start messing with the 44006 build you’re immediately losing 1 or 2 of those things after which other classes just become better choices.

If you want to make a tiny tweak to become better resistant to condis for example you have to lose either Boon Removal, Decoy or Portal And thats making 1 tiny change. Mesmers are VERY trait locked – as you can tell from them using the EXACT same trait spread since launch (Halting being the only update and we wouldnt even have used it if it hadn’t been in Dom 2 position).

That’s my point. You guys are trait locking yourselves because you hold too much value to all those things. The only way you’re going to improve is if you start breaking out of that and who the heck can interrupt better than a mesmer? No one! You also said it yourself, no one can boon strip better than mesmer so even without portal, they are still useful.
If you think a different class would be better in place of class that can boon strip a group of people then proceed to interrupt all of them and immobilize all of them in place so that his/her team can have free reign to nuke crap down then that’s your opinion, that’s not a fact.

I’m trying new builds, they’re all bad compared to shatter.
I feel like the reason that there are no other builds for mesmer is because there are no other good builds for mesmer.
Right now Im playing Celestial 3 mantra mesmer.. .. I’m not doing too good.. My mmr tanked so low I had prinzchaos on the opposing team.

So I’m trying to come up with a cele playstyle for Mesmer too..

When I think about Cele eles I think about Burst rotations; Burst Healing; and Sustain.
So Tried to recreate some of these

I’m still working on this.. but I’ve been playing of variations of it and it has never worked because of the different circumstances in different metas, but it might work in the Cele Ele/engi meta.

Unfortunately I think the Mesmer’s burst healing can’t compete with engi/ele at the moment. Partly because we have no access to water fields or blast finishers.

I’ve tried many variations of this like Heal mantra/6 Condi clear, But headshot spam can really screw you if you don’t have stability up, I prefer the reliability of ether feast.

Your damage is not going to be like a zerker Shatter mesmer’s but your burst rotations can still hurt if you get an interrupt and a well placed mantra of pain..

Most people do not understand how rotation works and go far randomly or don’t go far when they should.

Are you going far as an opening play and not looking at numbers at mid?
Are you going far as a low mobility class like ranger after capping home with a thief on the other team?
Are you going far as a bunker to fight the cele warrior/turret engi who’s on point?
Are you going far as a thief and fighting a 2v1 while one of your teammates sits on home?
Are you going far as a low mobility class after stomping 3 at mid ?
Do you go far as a Low mobility class when stalemated at mid?

If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, You don’t know how to rotate, and should stop going far, Here’s your sign.

Do you go far when your Team mates are being stomped as a High mobility class with escape mechanics?
Do you go far as a high mobility class(portal shadow step) When your team mates are winning mid/stalemated and leave after a decap to force one of the opponents to rotate?

Then you understand how rotations work.

Shatter Mesmer is strong.. but most people who play it have almost no skill..
The problem is that sustain has become too strong you no longer have to worry about making many mistakes because you can outlast most burst rotations while putting out compareable damage.

Especially if you’re an engineer which absolutely carries even abysmal players just from the fact that they basically can’t be burst down ever. As long as you know the heal rotation.

What’s the point of playing high risk low reward? Pop crate and win all your fights.

If you find that you’re meeting a lot of people who are criticizing your play; Maybe you’re the problem.

90% of custum arenas are rigged matches for pve players farming their dailys..

If you try to play(To get your daily on some random class you don’t actually play well) and roflstomp them they ban you.

Pretty much trash players abusing the system for rewards.

It depends on skill differential TBH .. I’ve won with 3 mesmers when the mesmers were good, I’ve lost with 3 mesmers when the mesmers were awful wvwvw heros.

In a team v team set up however, yes. of course it matters.

It’s a texture error and this can be confirmed in spectator mode, where you are instantly destealthed.

On the Player’s screen you are also destealthed.

This isn’t super smash brothers, when we find a bug we don’t say OH LOOK this is a way for the player to enhance his skill!

If that were true, you wouldn’t be destealthed in spectator mode.

The game isn’t balanced around you weapon stow canceling for the blind/teleport effect,

The problem is the game counts it as 2 hits when in fact it’s a single projectile.

Thieves are able to use Shadowshot from stealth without Destealthing if it’s canceled.
BUT it still teleports them and Blinds their opponent.

In spectator mode the Thief CLEARLY goes unstealth, but still has the stealth buff.
In the opponent’s view, the thief is stealthed even though the opponent is blinded.

While this isn’t “GAME BREAKING” per se, it basically solidifies a win 1v1.

This is clearly a bug, as you can see the thief unstealth in spectator, the only one who doesn’t is the opposing team player.

Justin, These changes in the long run will hurt pvp population…
People who are alienated by these changes will outnumber those that are benefited in the long run.

Players who experience short term DC’s once or twice a day.
Players who multiclass or are learning another class, Why bother?
Players who are tired of pugstomping with their 5 man que with an off class, but get matched against vastly superior players and want to switch to their mains.
Players who care about skillcap and feel that switching characters is not cheating.
Players who care about the leaderboard, and are gypped by bad mechanics.
Players who don’t wanna get 500’-0’d by a premade but now the premade can’t even switch classes as a slight self handicap for a fun match.
Players who have multiple characters of the same class for the sole purpose of switching builds for different maps, since we don’t have templates yet, but instead we have dishonor.

Who is that again? The People who won’t have their match interrupted by a short disconnect which usually does not have that much of an impact with this subpar matchmaking and the people who got 4 rangers on the opposing team and now are handed a free victory, which is essentially screwing up your mmr system.

The biggest problem is that this system does absolutely nothing to stop these things from happening because you can’t really guarantee a 100% stable connection, so disconnects will always happen, and people will still class switch when necessary, but it will cause them to sandbag their own mmr, and eventually they’ll be smurfing.

This is a terrible analogy in fact it doesn’t even make sense because most of the time you have no prior knowledge of an incoming disconnect, and it happends sporadically.

Dishonor for disconnecting is bonkers, awarding a loss and drop in ratings for a disconnect(EVEN if you win) is just Backwards.

Our bunkers normally don’t enter the match as their bunker character, and also experience disconnect. We normally take care to make sure if someone disconnects they atleast earn points before the match ends but could there be abandonment penalties for swapping or DCing?

Yes, disconnecting or changing professions will count as desertion, and give that player dishonor. They will also be scored on the ladder as if they had a full loss, meaning as if their team had scored 0 points.

Can you implement this only AFTER the game starts. I play 50% ranger and 50% ele and just now realized that my class swap is the reason I go down in rank after winning 10 games in a row. What do I do when I have 2 other rangers on my team? Stick with my main and 100% lose or do I swap to a better class, and then still “lose” 0-500?.

I think everyone understands the quasi-logic behind dishonor, but it’s made on the assumption of perfect matchmaking, and also on the assumption that skill cap is being able to play only one class, where as in reality matchmaking is subpar and multi-classing is part of a player’s skillcap. I.E not Cheating.

Pretty sure MMR is not consistent with Leaderboards now……
So her MMR could be REALLY REALLY LOW.. but her leaderboard ranking is pretty high, So every time she gets the best team mates to balance out her really kittenty mmr.
Best part of having super Low MMR? Every match up is automatically a match for 3 points and a match which you won’t lose many points even if you get 500-0’d

Allowing character swaps is really terrible for competitive play. People are supposed to build balanced comps and adapt to other comps by changing their strategies, not try to counter each other by constantly swapping comps.

Devs have not thought out Dishonor very well, and it shows.
They arrogantly think that their matchmaking is good enough to make sure the professions are spread evenly between teams when in reality it does no such thing and people end up having to swap.

It would be nice to filter the current leaderboard by class, but this can be juked somewhat with the current implementation of the leadboard. Someone could play 1000 games as one class and then switch to another class… play one game and then never play again AFAIK the last played character is displayed.

It would be pretty nice to see classes on the leaderboard because it would shine a light for the balance team since I’m pretty sure its like 40% Eles 40% Engies and 20% of the rest.

Getting dishonor for not accepting a que is kinda meh…

The Meta has come full circle, we are back to double d/d ele OP meta of launch.

This is a team game, but Rated is not just a team mode, by taking your MMR out of the context of your team we’ll actually be able to see who’s really good and who’s really not, but that’s after the dust settles and MMR is actually solid.

Right now MMR is kitten. I don’t even know who most of the top 25 is :/

Right now you could be beating bads, that accidentally won a 4v5, then some wvwvw heros who’ve only gotten courtyard for 4 maps in a row and somehow won with buildwars, so your points aren’t kosher either.

If this is true, then the pistol dagger thief who’s constantly throwing games has higher mmr then me.

If its a mode that rates players rather then teams, then no, he’s not.
If a team of 5 sits and farms duo and soloques all day playing 30 matches they farmed up a maximum of 30 points,(Straight up PVE style) whereas if you win 30 matches out of 30 soloque, you are a way better player because you carried your team to victory.

It’s hilarious to see players who farm wvwvw heros 24/7 with a full premade under me.

Actually the number one reason people don’t PVP in gw2 is because it’s too hard, the community is really only icing on the cake.

It’s so funny that new players can’t play and can’t take criticism either.

Learn to deal with it, cause the only way you’ll get better is if people point out your mistakes and you correct them.

There’s a lot of new players in pvp right now, and a lot of them have no idea of what they’re doing, you’re throwing games, and of course your team mates are mad if they soloqued into you who just walked into the mists and thought that practice and play was for noobs and Compete was for you.
