the price for golems will drop like a stone after the event – probably during too, when people start to realize how costly it really is – and how easily they can be disabled.

I dont expect more than half a days worth of event (maybe using 5 golems will be fun), after that people either wont come to WvW or they will join normal zergs to gank golems and go “lol that singled out omega player just lost 5g” haha.

This isn’t a shake up any more than taking the NBA and replacing the ball with a balloon and their Nike’s with stiletto heels is a “shake up”. It turns the game mode into a complete joke where defending anything is virtually impossible without a zerg in the lord room at all times.

They broke more than that. I cant even join some WvW instances on Far Shiverpeaks. EB and home is impossible. There are people in there so I know its up but from my end it seems to be down.

If you assume siege disabler, exact same builds to kill players. There is no build thats going to take down a golem with double damage running as fast as a player. Anything ranged will do as good a job as now.

If your already a normal wvw player, wont you have the token to easily buy a couple anyways?

No because this abnormal player spends badges on siege to commanders so that we can play the game and have fun together. I recently had over 200 Alpha golems in my inventory until I made Omegas out of it all and put in the guild bank. I give siege whenever commanders ask for it (and I have it).

Do you really think “a couple” will do in a world where everyone can have golems? The enemy will come with golems as well. A couple of golems will probably last you 20 minutes, if you are lucky.

Just two things:

1) They didnt say its going to be free. Golems are expensive as all kitten. Basicly, its going to be a money drain for already poor WvW players in order to have a week of “fun”. Because if you dont buy a golem, you’re not going to have fun when the enemy come with 40 of them. Good luck roaming. Its not going to work. You can look forward to spending 500+ gold in the coming week.

2) As long as the server matchup doesnt count toward glicko I dont really care. Sounds like a good time to take a vacation from WvW and do a little sPvP. Because they wont dare to kitten up that without causing an outrage from high end sPvP streamers.

Omega golems have no place in wvw

The only thing golems are useful is to help blobby servers steamrolling structures and make a perma karma train. Making the diferences between servers with diferent population even bigger and making any defence tactics useless because all the siege you have in the keep becomes useless. Only middle stairs arrocarts and inner trebs to drain the gates remain useful until they breach the gate.

Sieging structures with money, absolutely killing the smaller servers during difficult matchups because nobody is able to hold anything if a permablob of 50 players and 5 omega golems are just running in circles.

Blobbadons is just disgusting.

Hi guys, sometimes i get bored of my race of my main class, so i would like to change it but replace a character that have map complete, maxed profession and so on is difficult and frustrating. So, why not give something for race change like total makeover kit?

Wont happen. Anet has stated that your character’s race and profession are HARDCODED VALUES. Want to change either of those? It’s going to involve the deletion of your character. There is no snazzy coding magic anet can do to change that.

There is no such thing as a hardcoded value in a database created from nothing, ie character creation. Maybe they wont change it, but something that is hardcoded is always there from the start. Race isnt. Nothing about your character is.

Even with the assumption that its “hardcoded”, worst case scenario they can migrate old character data to a new character which can be any race. In the migration process you only take what you need (gear, inventory, profession, traits, story, etcetc), which obviously doesnt include race.

The race value not being changeable isnt the slightest problem to race changing.

They can’t merge servers because the servers can’t handle the influx. Sure WvW pop is small on certain servers, but the other PvE population is not.

What influx? There are no PvE servers. We’re all playing on the same megaserver. You could join entire T1 together and it would change absolutely nothing in PvE. It would cause 300 man WvW queues, but thats another problem.

Well they didnt change anything after the outrage on the forums when the camera was changed, so yes they clearly intended it to break WvW siege (and just plain looking behind walls in general).

the issue can be summed up rather easily.

there are certain things, like personal story progress and level-up rewards, that are saved directly into your character’s save file.

in order to change race, profession, reset personal story, etc… information would have to be removed from your save file. this would create conflicts with code that would essentially break your character.

for example. the code sees that you tripped flag x, and since you tripped flag x, there is supposed to be certain info in your save file. since the info was removed from your save file, the code can’t find the info it’s looking for, and then it generates error code after error code after error code. eventually, using that same save file, you get stuck in an infinite load screen, because there are too many errors

it’s the same thing that happens when you mod skyrim, save your game, and then remove mods, and try using the same save game. it may not break your game right away, but inevitably, it will break it beyond repair. and your save faile is broken to the point of an infinite load screen, there is only one thing to do: delete the save file (and all character progress) and start over from character creation.

Decent logic, but GW2 is an MMO, not a singleplayer game. Its much simpler.

Except the personal story, the game doesnt take into account your race, gender, what you did previously, etc. For example, all races have access to all home instances. Yep, if you are Charr you can go into the Norn home instance. That’s your home instance just as good as the Human home instance, or the Asuran one. The game doesnt care that you are Charr. Its the same home instance.

The same with the makeover kit. You can change genders how much you want. The game doesnt care. Even armor will properly change after you have changed genders.

To reiterate a part of my post here that got infracted and deleted (yeah I know exactly what part of the post caused that, wont post it again):

1) Limit is level 80 char only that has completed the personal story.
2) Personal story arc 1 change to “You are a RACE_NEW raised by RACE_ORIGINAL as one of them”. even if you race change 10 times, original race is the same. The personal story does not change otherwise. What’s done is done.
3) All race armor in inventory or equipped for the old race become accountbound, soulbound on equip. Its still limited to race, you dont get new race gear.
4) New race is processed just like the total makeover kit, you select your race and then it goes to total makeover kit menu.
5) Done.

leveling, gear customization are rendered useless right now, why armed to the teeth when lv.80 are forced to score like lv.11 no matter what gears we have?

Which is exactly how GW2 is designed to be.

You still get noticable advantages from runes and sigils though. Last I checked, sigils didnt even scale (ie a fire proc instantly killed low level creatures), but that was prepatch. I havent even bothered checking now because I dont care. A level 80 char still plow through level 10 stuff.

Well of Darkness converted to elite. Cover a 400 radius area in darkness (normal well is 240), 10s pulse blinds every 1 second, 3 stacks of stability every 3s for friendlies and convert a random enemy boon to fear every 3s. 120s cooldown.

You can run naked and mainhand a spoon and you would still do world completion fine.

But the simplest thing is to just go full zerker, staff/greatsword (you’ll use greatsword 99% of the time, staff pretty much to bossfight with iMage) and spec for every bit of damage you can think of. Mobs should go pop in 1 second. After the patch, level 10 mobs will probably be harder to kill than level 80 mobs.

Having perma-switftness or +25% is what makes exploration tolerable, not so much the build.

My issue with Rampage is that it doesn’t actually function like a transform. Lich and Tornado can’t stomp, rez, proc things like defy pain, or utilize skills like healing signet’s resistance boon prior to activating. In fact, lich form REMOVES spectral effects. The cooldown is also quite low compared to the other two. And an engi can potentially have it on an 84 second cooldown, though it’s rng. Damage and CC are fine as that’s the point of using it.

Indeed. Or an even worse thing to compare with, Plague form. If Rampage is an “I win” button, plague Form is an “I loose” button. Moa form does more damage and is easier to escape in. Well at least Necros got Lich.

But come on, its a Warrior we’re talking about here. Warriors and Guardians always get special treatment by Anet. Rampage wont be changed. If anything, it will probably be buffed.

HELP! what to do with WvW armor

If you are lucky, you can toss them in the forge. Sometimes you cant even do that.

Unfortunetly Anet has never solved the WvW gear dilemma. I have stopped buying it long ago due to the cost of runes – even if a PvE set cost 20g+ vs a WvW set for 7g + badges (I havent counted the gold cost, something around there), I buy the PvE set. That way I can at least salvage the gear if I change my mind later.

The problem with the OP suggestion is that it would be extremely unfair in a snapshot situation. If 2 buffed players (because the server is loosing badly) meet 1 unbuffed player (because he has the misfortune of being on the winning server) then that 1 player will be miffed. Because its unfair. He was outmanned, he didnt stand a chance with them buffed. Why should he be penalized?

Personally I still believe WvW is in dire need of some sort of PPT equalizer system instead to balance it. We see many servers that has insane PPT during nights or when there are no players on a border, then the same servers get absolutely roflstomped in primetime (or at the very least fought on equal terms). Problem is, the other servers will have zero chance to reach them in PPT. 7 nights of PPT >>>>> 3 hours of PPT. Simple.

Its not the nightcap on its own that’s the bad thing, its purely a matter of PPT difference. It need to be capped somehow – both low and high. Equalized.

I don’t think you read the whole thing…..in order to get the buff two criteria had to be met.

1) you need to be undermanned on that map.
2) your server has to be losing in the point score.

Fairness is a relative term. The situation you described above is the same situation if an outmanned server player ran into the numerous gank squads of the “stacked” server. Is that fair?

No, its not fair. That was exactly my point. Its not fair in any scenario.

Getting a player buff would not change the PPT situation either – the enemy server outmanning would still be highly likely to win even if the outmanned server gets a buff on an outmanned border. It wont matter for the matchup. I still think that buffing players is the wrong way to go when its the PPT system that is flawed.

Does a Skill Work If you Press it Just Once?

Well if the icon is flashing this sounds a lot like skill lag (different from fps lag) it’s a problem on anet’s side not your computer.

Of course its a problem on Anets side, I know that.

Its the skill queue server that breaks – it doesnt react to you pushing the buttons. Whether that is your client not sending the command properly or the server not doing anything on its end I have no idea. What’s pure clientside (ie the “button press”) is obviously working, so I suspect its actually client failure to send to server.

Its a different issue from the blinking skill lag, where it just keep flashing. I suspect that is your client properly sending something and get an OK from server to do the skill, but doesnt actually do it and complete the skill activation (basicly, stuck in skill limbo).

But without knowing how a skill activation works client->server->back to client its just guessing.

I really wish Anet would investigate it, but it will probably just ebb out like the lag investigation. Its laggy, we know, we dont know how to fix it.

This has been happening for a looooooooong time.

Basicly, you push a skill and absolutely nothing happens. You see the actual button “press” as if the skill is about to be activated, but it doesnt do anything, dont go on cooldown and dont trigger. Sometimes you have to press multiple times for it to finally work. It can happen when there is no lag otherwise.

And yes, the Necro actually seems to be particularly afflicted with this, long activation times on pretty much all skills and double clicks (like wells) doesnt exactly help.

Anyone having success with p/p condi in spvp?

I just tried a p/p turret rabid build and it was actually quite decent. I am used to my well bunker necro and this is the first time I played engineer in like… 3 months or something, lol.

On SFR we generally have 20 active, 20 waiting for a raid to start and 20 alt accounts from the opposition standing around taking up space…

That still mean you generally outman the opposition with 40 players though.

Anet will never admit it because it’ll cause a ton of outrage.

And they will completely ignore that WvW player outrage and keep doing what they are doing.

You do know what this exact thing has happened before, right? I dont think they ever admitted that the original WvW queue system was completely broken. Proven fact, it was not a FIFO list or anything like that, it was some wierd queue cluster system which placed you in a random cluster, making you enter WvW at a random time. So if cluster A was before cluster B and someone left A, a new player would join A and get ahead of everyone in B.

You could exploit the system by triggering a cluster hop with your entire group, so that all of you got to the front of the line. Then they added the numbered queue as a feature. I dont think they ever explained the old queue system – I dont think they could explain the old queue system, because it was probably just as much a mystery to Anet as it was for us. I have no idea who coded it but the man was either a genius or a madman.

If Anet fixed a problem with the border population, it will probably be listed in the patch as “Tweaked a few numbers in WvW” and then you’ll never know about it.

For example as applied to WvW, the tactic of influencing the distribution of your own forces in such a way as to trick the opponent into queuing up their own borderland map with certain types of guilds that do not play the PPT game over guilds and players that do becomes far easier to perform if exact numbers are known.

You seem to say that the numbers need to be hidden so that people can avoid fights and PPT in peace. Dont want people trying to fight that 50 man blob that just ported to an empty border!

I dont quite see what’s good about that.

Doesn’t make sense though. That makes wall siege obsolete. It also makes siege placed way inside a courtyard of a tower or keep useless to. So the blob cannot be countered by siege so basically makes it useless. Sad.

No it doesnt.

But Anet doesnt care. They never cared.

We complained about it when GW2 was released.
We complained about it when the arrowcart damage was buffed.
We complained about it even more when arrowcart damage was further buffed to insanity by masteries (can you believe that there was a time when ACs where doing half the damage of today?).
We complained about it when the camera patch broke it beyond belief.

Anet. Doesnt. Care. Everytime we say nerf the arrowcarts, they buff it instead.

So glhf with the next patch, arrowcarts will probably have triple the range just because you want to nerf the line of sight.

Yeah that will surely give the enemy server an advantage, knowing there are actually players on the border.

No, more related to how a lot of servers try to plan out which maps guilds go to and where they think enemy guilds will go.

How is that gaming the system? That’s called organisation. It also make WvW playable, since guilds can spread out instead of all stack on a border and no one can play when 6 guilds are trying to run 30 man raids on a single border.

Might as well call night cappers gaming the system.

But .. but … “when you move around you actually see other players move around”
Now this is such a great feature never seen in any MMO before .. nobody else
will play all those MMOs where you don’t see other people move around while
you move around

Hey it was a great feature added to GW2. Remember when they first added culling, making most of the enemy players on your screen invisible, lol?

Camelot Unchained is great in theory. There is still sooooooo much work needed to be done before they even have an up to spec modern tech demo (ie one that doesnt look like crap). I seriously question that they will be able to keep their release date. But who knows, maybe they can.

Sidenote: Regarding the Black Desert Online, the problem is that Korean MMOs are so… Korean. The gameplay style always irks me. They are absolutely beautifull, often rich in content and more advanced than western MMOs but there is always something that feel wrong. I cant even define it.

I’m almost certain that the sides have uneven caps. It seems we’ve often had enemies with mahoosive blobs while we’ve hit the cap with nigh-on two-thirds as many.

I dont think that is uneven caps, I think its broken queues. Its happened before.

There is no MMO similar to GW2 that does everything it does as well AFAIK.

I am still disappointed by the ESO failure, they tried the AvA (ie WvW) on a far grander scale than GW2 and could have been really, really good… but ultimately failed. Boring PvE, boring PvP (wait, what PvP?), WvW that required a 20 man zerg just to begin to playing on the simplest level (in comparison, GW2 require 1 player).

life from death with speed of shadows is a 2~3k heal on a 7s cooldown. Cant beat it really. Great team support. Throw is a transfusion and in those 3s you can heal ~9k* to your allies.

*or 7K with zerker gear and can kill your enemies.

This is why Staff works much better for condi builds, the combination of Terror with Reaper’s Mark, and the damage from the conditions make it a much better fit for condi, whereas on power builds it literally does nothing unique except have range.

Well, nothing unique for power builds except make you laugh at Thieves that kill themselves because they teleported into the marks you dropped on your feet. The range is only half the flexiblity of the staff. If that’s all you consider its use for in power builds, you’re using it wrong.

If we are talking a small 5 man group (or less), sure you can do some decent healing to the group with transfusion.

If we are talking zerg healer, then no, there is zero potential. An Ele will completely outclass you, given the fact a Necro has zero water fields.

Plus, even in small man groups, I would argue the usefullness of a cleric Necro vs a zerker Necro… You can see that by changing the amulet, your healing for transfusion change from 562×9 (5058 healing) to 322×9 (2898 healing). That’s a ~2000 hhp loss… ie a couple auto-attacks from any class. Yeah. Going zerker increases your offensive potential ALOT. Like, 2-shot-alot if you know what I mean.

I think your group will appreciate winning battles more than the healing you provide while loosing them.

Purpose? For the staff? It doesnt need a purpose. A Necro without the staff isnt really a Necro, that’s its “purpose”. Imagine going Guardian without a staff. That’s exactly like the Necro staff.

For the people that think its a condi weapon… think again. Because its not. Its really just a pure power weapon with some condi based utilities (you want duration on that fear/chill/poision, not damage). Use it as such and the staff can plow damage into groups. It wasnt a condi weapon before the patch and it certainly isnt after either.

Its Guardians we’re talking about here, the only class that’s really needed and what 80% of players use. Anet wont fix that. They clearly want the game broken. Its obvious that they added the elite shout just to break the game.

The Offical Axe For Help Thread

I have been playing an aggressive WvW build with dagger/warhorn and axe/dagger lately and it sucks.

Sure you got speed without the signet or speed/traveler but your flexibility goes completely down the drain. Tbh the fix for my problems would be fairly simple – make axe 1 and 2 900 range, 1200 when traited. 3 can remain a shortrange AoE attack. Worst case, at least do it for axe 1 so I can use that kitten thing from atop walls or half-decent in zergs.

At the end of the day, the staff is such an important tool for the Necro you need it. That limits the secondary weapon options to dagger, scepter or axe. I honestly dont see anyone picking the axe in that situation. Its skills have literally no redeeming factors that make me go “oh but I use axe for that skill”.

The NPCs in WvW are also quite outdated.

If you look at the one they’ve put in EotM, those ones are more serious. The sentries actually take a little bit of effort to kill, and they can actually be quite a thorn in your side if you’re fighting an enemy player in their proximity.

The aetherblades can also be pretty deadly if you overdo it in that middle section, and the keep lords and such are pretty much non-solable… well, some of them still probably are.

In the new WvW borderlands, they’ll be using those kind of NPCs rather than the lame paper ones that they’ve always had in the standard borderlands we’ve had now. So once those come with HoT, that should help solve the issues regarding lame, useless, insignificant NPCs.

To be fair, EoTM is a poor comparison for the strength of NPCs.

A 30 man EoTM pug zerg can wipe half the zerg on a keep lord in a minute long battle, while a 10 man guild group take down the same EoTM lord in 6 seconds.

The NPCs in EoTM arent that much stronger, its the players that are weaker.

Personally, I only feel that NPCs should be smarter based on the amount of players attacking them. Just use more skills, more CC, invincibility, knockbacks, summon reinforcements, etc.

18K damage sounds low.

Twice yesterday I met the same thief which brought down 26K hp on my necro (1600 toughness, traited for 33% damage reduction at 50% hp with spectral armor of course) in the initial 2s of the “fight”, ie within stun. Just basilisk and burst from stealth. Saved both times by ds trait, bet he was crying how necro is OP and his thief is too weak.

Interesting build. I notice you have D/W and D offhand…but you didn’t trait for Quickening Thirst (Blood Magic 2) but instead took Ritual of Life (Blood 1). Why is that?

Not to mention Unyeilding Blast instead of Soul Marks for even more bunkering.

I was a MM bunker build long before the patch that was just like this, except with sentinel amulet. You rarely loose a 1v1, true BUT the minion AI was so kitten broken not even funny.

Has AI been improved in the patch? I havent even tried, because I since moved on to a protective wells build that proved much more effective than the minionmancer at holding points, especially in 1v2 or more scenarios where you can ignore the +1 (if they go on point they will die on your wells while you are fully focused on the bunkers). Minions unfortunetly have very narrow focus in comparison. Often that focus is a wall, a crate, a rat and sometimes even a player.

Ignoring blatantly obvious broken things in the patch (Engineer insta-killing with nades…) the Necro remain the best direct damage AoE bomber which means yes, you have to stay in the backline because it assumes zerker-ish gear in order to maximize effectivness. Going something like cleric on a Necro is a complete waste of a party member IMO. I’d rather have a cleric Thief next to me than such a Necro – at least he can stealth me. In small groups dps is faaaaaaar more important than healing. You need to be able to cut down enemies in size before they can even react. Bursting always wins a skirmish, no matter how much people like hybrid/healing builds. After the patch, its 10x more evident than it was before.
