Tempest reveal. Any reason to play Guardian?

In wvw the guardian offers very powerful group support in the form of boon sharing and condition management. A gaurd per party has always been a constant the wvw. Also offer great control in the form of wards.

… wat? A guard per party, lol?
The old meta was 3-4 Guardians per melee party with 1-2 Warriors (or possibly 1 Mesmer to keep the veil up front). Pre stability change 1 Guardian per ranged party, after stability change no Guardian was needed (he couldnt keep up stab anyway).

What absolutely crush the current pirate ship meta is 5 Guardian melee parties, all running Judges Intervention. You dont even need Warriors anymore and just barely Elementalists for that matter (once you reach a certain amount of Guardians, water fields become useless). Just Guardians as teleporting frontline and Necromancers to finish up the bomb. Glhf when people in the area around the Judge bomb have 50+ stacks of burning on them.

So yeah…

Guardians are kind of in a good place for WvW.

I am Australian and joined GW2 two years ago, and my stupid, uneducated self chose EU servers instead of NA because I truly didn’t even know the difference.

I played for the first year and a half without regretting this decision, and I now have 6 level 80 characters, a legendary weapon and a large amount of achievements I am very proud of.

Transfering to a very high pop server (ie max cost) is about 1/6th the cost of a legendary.

Priorities mate.

If transfering is your only goal, the thing you work for every day, it may take a couple of months to get the funds if you are slow. But its way cheaper than making a legendary.

The real money → gem cost for transfering is ridiculous I know. Anet are literally leeching money on impatient people that play WvW. But the gold cost is… not really that bad. People need to realize that the most important use for gold isnt that legendary crap or ascended gold sink for almost no improvement at all compared to the exotic for 1% of the cost, its actually getting the quality of life things that cost gems. Character slots, inventory slots, bank slots and yes, transfer fees. If Anet still get enough cash to survive on what people could have used gold on, its actually a very good economic model. It lets people choose between dedicated playing or paying for less time spent. GW2 has incredibly rabid players with thousands upon thousands of hours so yeah…

Problem is when you start discussing rewards in WvW, you’re walking a very thin line between fighting for fun or karma training. Give people more reward for taking keeps and you’ll see an increase in karma training. It doesnt take much to upset the balance.

I would settle for the simple solution of getting more cash when opening WvW lootbags and increase the chance of players dropping several bags.

I dont see how they can do underwater combat again (we had the lake in previous borderlands before they made it the bloodlust caps). That means they would have to balance professions for underwater WvW combat. Which they wont do.

The problem with this idea is that its not fair. It assumes bringing fairness to an unfair scenario, but that scenario doesnt necessarily happen. There are 3 sides playing. 2 could be clashing zergs, while 1 is outmanned. Good. But what if that 1 side has 10 players running around “outmanned” avoiding the enemy zergs and instead ganking 1-5 man groups? With this buff, it would cause issues to the outmanned roamers that has the unfortune of a zerg elsewhere on the map. You cant fully determine whats outmanned on border numbers alone when we start looking at individual fights. Not everything is zerg vs zerg in known numbers.

I much prefer the idea of not allowing rallying off a kill on an outmanned player. It maintains the core game mechanics and instead of annoying players by punishing them when killed by outmanned player, it reduces the effect of one of the most annoying things in the game, rallybots.

Anet has already killed 1-80 character progression by introducing the tomes, simplified most of the endgame character progression by making so much accountbound stuff (remember when legendaries was soulbound and you needed to build 2 to dualwield the skin? Yeah. That was a thing) and now you want to pretty much kill what remains of that progression by giving us a way to dupe items.

Cant say I am all that fond of the idea.

Why do you think that it sould be intended to solo cap an objective on a map with (hopefully) 100 players?

Why do you think ESO failed so horribly compared to GW2? Oh that’s right – you needed bloody 100 people to take the eqvivalent of a GW2 camp because NPCs insta-killed everything in sight.

One of the best designed things about WvW is that it scales from 1 to 30+ players when it comes to what you can do on a border. Yes, camps can be soloed. That’s the very basic thing. Small groups take towers. Larger groups take keeps. That is a very good thing. It means that small amount of players can actually get a border going so that more players join, unlike in ESO where you needed an entire raid ready and waiting for you as you logged on just so you could play. Which meant that people logged on, went “meh no point” and logged off.

TL;DR
Its not going to be 100 people all the time. Its going to be 1 person at some point. I guarantee it.

Nomads or Soldiers?

Nomads is fun if you want to literally squirt HP all over the place. Sure you can facetank a buffed camp supervisor without even using your heal but you hit like a wet noodle and can barely kill upscales alone. It is a pure support build. As such, its complete kitten in PvE. You cant get any worse than that.

My point is: make WvW more “mobile” and fast-paced. Put some waypoints here and there. Or give us freaking tanks or armored transports lol. Do something. For now, it looks like 80% of running, 10% fighting mobs and 10% of actuall pvp. <abashed>

But… there are waypoints all over the place? Hills, bay, garrison, border keep when they are upgraded. The entire border gameplay revolves around getting those waypoints up.

WvW is alot of running, true. But its not anywhere near that bad. Zergs clash all the time. If you roam on an empty border meeting no one there is a reason for that – its empty.

If you are over 10,000 hours on Mesmer alone, that’s some serious playing time.

Granted, I took almost a year off (various games, ESO and Archeage between) and has mained Necro the last 6 months, But I still only have 1459 hours as Mesmer out of a total 3173 hours. I can barely play the kitten class.

Simplest thing to do – remove the GW2 data file and let the game “reinstall”. When you start the game, it will simply download it again. You can also add “–repair” to the shortcut as described here: https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/28148006-Repairing-the-Game-Client

4-7 minutes plus the delays is definetly abnormal. An SSD loads a map in 5-15 seconds (LA and other cities are on the far end of the scale).

And yet none of this address the real issue with the Thief that’s existed for 3 years, constant in combat stealth. A good Thief only pop up a few seconds and then vanish again. In a game that’s supposed to be built around counterplay – you see the enemy use a skill, you counter/dodge it – that leads to incredibly broken combat. Being able to combo blast stealth himself is a huge part of this issue, the Thief is by far the best selfcomboer.

TL;DR
None of what OP suggest fix the Thief because they arent even problems.

How is the highest burst, Stunlock spamming, Stealth spamming, Blink spamming class the least of anyone’s concern when you are out numbered?

Because if you fight 1v3 on point you cant focus him no matter what you do. If you do, you wont have the damage to accomplish anything against the Mesmer in particular. Especially not if the other 2 are Warriors in rampage. The marks will IMO always be better for dropping on your feet and trying to hold the point or something as simple as putting people in combat/slowing them down before they even arrive. Skill 4 on staff can almost kill everyone on point if a Guardian was silly enough to put 13+ burn stacks on you lol.

Now if the axe had 1200 range and an AoE autoattack we’d be talking a trickier choice…

Soldier vs Knights

There is no real reason why you need a full set of anything aside from going full condition – or of course changing the runes.

Knights is by far a better universal set than soldiers due to the precision. You can swap between soldier trinkets (for a tough build that still have some crit oomph out of DS) and zerker trinkets.

Keep in mind that in WvW spike damage is better than sustain. The psychological impact on a a player seeing his HP drop in half due to the enemy hitting him as full zerker is half the battle won… Killing a fleeing enemy is much simpler than killing one that fight back. That’s why Thieves are often so successfull in general and fail so horribly against Necros – drop everything on your feet and watch them melt. Its not like you could have fled anyway lol.

There are multiple places leading “outside” the known maps. South east corner of Mount Maelstrom for example, the guarded southern gate in Fields Of Ruin. The Tengu gates in LA and Caledon Forest… Up until Silverwastes, the bandit camp there was mystery as it was guarded by unique level 80 champion NPCs, which was kind of unusual in a low level zone.

The Marks are decent-ish but against a good Mesmer none of them will hit.

If you build for facetanking a point 1v3 for any length of time, that particular Mesmer will be the least of your worries.

But granted if you aim to duel 1v1 there are other things to consider.

On my well bunker Necro I do not duel unless I am forced into it by defense, which against say a good Mesmer only mean delaying him the 30-60s needed for +1 to arrive and squish him in a second. If he happen to die before that he wasnt a good Mesmer, making your point irrelevant

Yes, that means you where trolling. Those kinds of servers is effectivly cheating servers officially allowed by Anet for reasons beyond me. Its like a dev said “hey on this particular server, aimbots is allowed! Go nuts!”. Players make their own rules just to farm more easy sPvP ranks and points. If you dont follow the rules, you are trolling. Its similar to knife only servers in Battlefield except without the fun.

Finally getting something that should have been done when the PvE megaserver system was implemented eh? Guess its better late than never.

Without also changing the transfer costs it wont affect server population one bit though. At best – and what I guess Anet is hoping for – people will see how hopelessly outmanned they are in their tier, which will make them spend cash to move to another server, messing up population issues further. The best result that can happen from this is that it depopulate low tier servers so much they have to close a tier.

Anet was able to remove the golem event & supercharged golem buffs without a patch. Looks like we got trolled pretty hardcore, knowing they could’ve removed all the bugs & exploits a week ago.

But on the good side they where able to remove it. I was worried there for a while.

And yet all I see here is the sillyness of the “defenders”. There are 2 more freakin exits from spawn, a group of 4 Necros and a Mesmer running around would be able bomb that siege to bits before they even knew what hit them. Hell, considering how many people there are in front of the siege such a group could easily punch through the front. Just stealth and go around the AC fire, they’ll be on top of the siege by the time they appear again.

If this is for sPvP, the staff is better than axe/dagger. You get more hp regen, AoE condi transfer and the all important fear when you want to get people off downed mates.

For above post, DP vs FITG… DP is better IMO, even on a soldier build. Problem with FITG is that the stability remain incredibly short. Its not going to help much in combat and its not even long enough to help stomping. DP on the other hand will allow you ALOT more pressure in DS. Without FITG you can make up for it by using AoE suppression around downed (sometimes its good to get enemies coming to res, hehe). You’ll have the damage to kill fleeing zerkers that otherwise have a 100% chance to get away from a slow necro and your on point AoE with 5/4 become much stronger in group combat. Your 1v1 strength is also considerably improved, compared to a stability you’ll probably never really utilize (who cares if you get knocked around 10 times by an engie when you kill him easily anyway).

Most people cant even play Mesmer properly due to considerably higher skillceiling that for example pushing two buttons on a Ranger, but the answer is still yes.

The change to PU in particular is completely mindboggling. It went from giving you 1 second more stealth per skill to double the stealth duration. And it was already considered a decent enough skill.

Because this game really needed more combat stealth. I’m a little surprised the Thief didnt get a trait that grant them 1 second extra stealth for every second they are in stealth.

The shift toward more damage output didnt exactly hurt a class that already was one of the best duelists.

Keep in mind that unranked is the unofficial solo q. Most teams are well mannered and decent enough to not go unranked q against soloers. There are still those who are a bit ill mannered, but what that’s just something we have to live with.

If every solo q’er went unranked, then gg in the ranked queue. You’d wait 30-60 minutes for the next match. But that’s not a problem is it, we have tons of stuff to do while waiting for a match dont we?

Besides, doesnt most premades join just for easy wins against randoms? Most I meet are mediocre. Even 5 man premades will loose to pugs. They wouldnt stand a chance against a good competetive 5 man so I doubt they want to meet them.

The emotional scars will remain for a long time. Especially since Anet have showed exactly zero will to restore faith in them. The new borderland replacing all the others make me fear for the future of WvW. If it doesnt work… its the end. Because they obviously isnt going to change anything, respond to feedback or admit its not working. This week has showed us that.

Anythig but ranked is pointless. You dont even have to care about your rank, if you solo q your win ratio will be around 50% regardless. I dont even understand why unranked is still in the game, as there would have been alot more players with shorter queues using just one. They should just have limited premades to 3 man and made a seperate “tournament” queue for those wanting more competetive guild vs guild and ladders with full premades.

But I suppose Anet loves letting the wolves kitten the sheep a little now and then.

If you play WvW a majority of the time, you would know why.

The WvW community literally have to get on its knees and beg Anet not to kitten up the game. Sometimes it work (the intended commander tag change that was completely beyond stupid comes to mind), sometimes it dont.

At the moment, Anet wont even admit WvW is a real part of GW2. Its just PvE to them, they dont care about any kind of competetive spirit and PvP, which for many players is the core of WvW. That makes the future a very scary thing for any fan of WvW.

Not sure if we’re referring to the same or not but Thief class have 0.75 skill delay on all animations compared to other classes which are on-demand. I’d like to know when this’ll be getting fixed as it has been around since launch….

Lulwat? Most Thief skills are instant compared to other classes that suffer long skill activation times. Not counting weapons, Necro for example have 4 skills that are instant. Theif has 13.

Josh said that this didn’t take resources from HoT development as he did this by himself. Does this mean that single non developer is allowed to push events of this scale to live client without QA? Or was QA involved and three exploits got trough?

To be fair, if we assume that WvW was bug free without exploits before (3 years since release), this event would merely change some modifiers when inside a golem and change supply cost. Neither of which should have needed any particular Q&A, ignoring the obvious impact on gameplay.

Like changing the cost of a weapon from 50 silver to 20 silver, only to find out that its been bugged for years and instakill everyone 1 out of 5 times. The guy that decided to change the price by altering the value hardly considered or tested that if he didnt know.

Yeah yeah I know people will call me a white knight, but honestly the event is a complete brainfart and exploits should have been fixed as they where discovered if they wanted to see it through a week, or the golem rush part of the event stopped. That is all. Pointing fingers to poor testing is pointless

Critical exploits in WvW introduced friday and they dont even release a patch tuesday… yeah… Anet is apparently on vacation. Sure they skip some weeks, but look in the release forum – its still normally every two weeks.

I also got a couple client improvements that should help reduce framerate hitching with lower-mid range video cards and/or higher shader settings. Coming next release, too.

Oooh does this mean whats probably shader effects causing framerate to tank might be fixed by this? Most notable seen during Shaman, where you have like 15 fps (which is considered “normal” when 60 peeps clusterkittens a boss) and then suddenly, without any visual differences in the ongoing battle, it goes to 60+ fps silky smooth… Only to drop to 15 fps again like 10 seconds later.

Because they wanted to ensure an utterly equal pact. A leader coming from the vigil would not make the Priory or OoW happy at all, and they may be less enticed to accept it. Each other had differing viewpoints of how to handle situations, so why would the Priory dedicate a chunk of it’s numbers into a group lead by a vigil member who they aren’t entirely a fan of?

But why is this random sallad head thrown in, one that is clearly not a military commander?

I mean it could have been say… Rytlock that was chosen to lead the war against the dragons. Trahearne could still have followed you to complete his own quest to cleanse Orr, but why lead the Pact?

Even putting the wvw buff up for a week every 4 weeks would work for quick promotions, just like the spvp buff that goes up for tournaments.

Which is what they should have done. Seriously, the sPvP tournament buff is simple and effective. You get more points, you have more mf, end of story. Why didnt WvW get just this? Why was golems thrown in there, out of the blue. The sPvP event never change the gameplay, yet golems break it. And it last a god kitten week instead of a weekend. Double standards to the max.

Sidenote: They still got a while left for the patch, its tuesday… Will they own up to their mistake? I can hear the cries already if there isnt even any patch this week, just during an event that break WvW.

Its actually quite strange that the event isnt EoTM only. EoTM was introduced in the living story as a PvE event, similar to how Silverwaste or Dry Top work. It was obviously never meant to be for WvW and Anet made zero attempt to change anything about it. That they continue with wierd events there would be logical and WvWers wouldnt even care.

Regarding what’s “good” about the event… No. There’s literally nothing good about it. Its all bad. Its not fun, its completely pointless, its without any purpose whatsoever (at least PvE events make some attempts at making sense in the world, or be celebrations of some kind) and it make the community toxic. The first hour it was impressive to see golem armies but we never needed that to begin with (in fact, we’ve seen it before). It has added nothing to WvW and when it goes away, all we will be left with is a ton of karma and bitterness against Anet.

Even just the 50% MF boost in WvW for a week as a celebration style event would have been better.

I am glad they are trying to innovate but this was just so ill advised on its face, everyone who actually plays WvW regularly called it.

Its a complete brainfart and their silence about it is a slap in the face and two middle fingers from Anet aimed at every WvWer. It just makes me sad that they show such disrespect to their players, especially when many people actually like them. In every other area Anet are the most involved devs I know when it comes to AAA titles.

But I guess the true test comes tomorrow, patch tuesday. Will the golem event end? Will they at least fix the exploits? Will they say something?

I believe that the golem dup bug and buff bug will remain and the team will need time to resolve it.

Buff bug wont matter if there is no buff. Dupe is worse off though.

You are doing everything while Trahearne follow you around taking the credit.
He could have literally been written out of the story in 10 minutes, you do everything and have companions that help. The pact could have been controlled by the three leaders of the orders (which help you along the way, effectivly replacing Trahearne). There are so many other cool characters that are just brushed aside because Trahearne have to take center stage.

He should have sacrificed himself at Claw Island o__o

Even a thief is more visible when using his stealth skills. A mesmer is just gone without a trace.

Without a trace, yes… well, ignoring the fact one skill poop out a clone, another cause a fiery explosion, one drop a huge line on the ground and the last cause a visible shockwave miles away.

Lol no it isnt. Tweaking numbers is part of game development. Knowingly breaking the game – and not fixing it shortly after – is not. Especially not 3 years after the game was released. If this was in alpha or beta no one would have cared.

I hope they accidentally make mobs do 1000% more damage in PvE or something so that I can come to the forums and say “wtf you complaining about, NPCs instakilling you is perfectly normal, its just part of the game development guys!”

Time to warn Piken Square!

As soon as you open your mouth to warn someone, golems are already through outer gates, inner gates and have brought the lord down to 20%.

They could have just given everyone that logged into WvW this week a million karma, sigh. Would have saved us the trouble.

obviously 15 days xD what is your problem i was asking for advice yeah ive only have gw2 for like 6 weeks but the past couple of weeks has been dead on wvw so get off your high horse and keep your mouth shut because all you do i make a tit of your self

6 weeks isnt so much better. Its in the middle of summer vacations you know. Many guilds dont even raid and probably wont be starting for another month. FSP may not have as many players as SFR true, less kiddies on vacation I guess.
