Well you should easily be able to identify most commanders anyway.

Tbh I dont see this as a bad change, quite the contrary its good for small groups. 5 men with a commander engaging 5 men without obviously mean the commander is easily picked out and targetted when he really shouldnt be. Yeah I know you dont need a commander tag for 5 peeps, its an extreme example.

I see this move as a prequel to expanding the use of commander tags – private guild tags for 5-10 peeps would be very bad to show on the buff bar for the enemy… One can always hope :/

So, if you weapon swap will you lose your stacks, or will that only be caused by completely unequipping the weapon?

Pressumably it would only de-stack if you unequip the weapon, otherwise certain classes are kittened.

As I gather, dual 2h weapons will gain a extra sigil while it doesnt matter for 2h+1h and 1h+1h will loose 1 sigil. Basicly, it all become equal – 3 sigils + 1 stacker.

Stacking 5 per kill will make it alot faster to stack in WvW however, as you’ll be at full 25 stacks if 5 players engage 5 players and win the small battle, let alone everyone having 25 stacks in zerg vs zerg.

I see this as a good change.

In all my hours of GW2 I have met a total of two rangers that where decent. 1 of them was impossible to kill (I haven no idea what build he was using but we where 2v1 and couldnt do it) and the other died, but it was a fight at least.

I dont even want to begin to think of the many times the random 22222222 theif has killed me.

Ranger isnt even close to being strong.

Well either that or 99% of all Rangers are idiots, I dont know.

Yeah there’s really no way around it. If you want good zerg performance, pick another class. Basicly, your mainhand weapon design is bad for zerg warfare:

Sword – Not enough damage to be used on auto through a zerg
Greatsword – Targetting issues meaning you never know wtf you’re going to hit
Scepter – Just ugh…
Staff – Too long cooldown on the AoE, its an opener and little more

Your offhand weapons are in a little better shape but even when they arent bugged they simple dont have the cooldown for constant AoE pressure.

You do have some skills that are good against zergs, but you will be limited because you also need a certain degree of survivability and cleansing. Null field is the best “omni” skill that’s good both for you and against zergs but the rest are often pushed away from the skillbar by other needed things. For example if you have to be the groups veilbot, you’re left with 1 skill – and that have to be either blink or stability mantra or you’ll die for sure. So you miss out on for example feedback which you really, really want available.

Bah, anyway… For me I mostly used two different zerg builds: the mantra healing glamour support and the heavy shatter. They are exactly what they sound like. The former is a survival/healing tank which runs on the commander, period. The later is a hit-and-run skirmisher that require alot more legwork and skill.

Since no longer running with dedicated raid guilds, I prefer the direct damage shatter build variants in zerg warfare for pretty much all situations. You can wreck absolute havoc on stackers and even if its hard to kill tanky individual players, a single burst often scare anyone away and let you go back to focusing on assisting the commander.

My staff guardian is 100x easier to play in a zerg, but the Mesmer is just so fun

Ironic. I just ran into a rather troublesome Warrior a few nights back. Fast as all get-out, with a redonkulous amount of regen. (We’re talking enough to get hit by 5 of our guys, and still not drop below ~33% hp). I was thinking of using Moa on said Warrior the next time I encounter his behind.

The last time I met a Warrior when we where no less than 3 Mesmers he just auto-ran away. One of us gave up early, so we where 2 Mesmers on top of him (both have travellers) and combined we could not dps through his regen and skill pops. He just… ran. We had to give up, not much choice.

Alone, its really impossible to beat them. The only class I play that can is Guardian and that is with pure tenacity and outbunkering the bunker in constant melee battle. It only take about 15 minutes to end a fight.

I am fairly certain the condition damage is the proper way to go (like, really really really heavy condition damage) but alas… I hate condition builds, lol.

Oh I have had so many…

The latest one however was deep inside an enemy border (at north camp), all alone on my PU Mesmer. I met 3 players along the road – same guild, all running together. Normally, there’s only one outcome to that – certain death. But I had gone too far to back out now, so I engaged them. kittened as I am, I went for a guardian first. But in a stroke of luck, he was downleveled. He did nothing to me. But then I remembered the other guys… And tabbed through them. All are downlevels.

Needless to say, certain death turned into a lion playing with 3 mice.

They couldnt hurt me. I got the guardian down 3-4 times and they ressed him, until the last time they tried to res him. All 3 was downed in the same spot, lol. I ran away laughing from that encounter.

Poor buggers. They didnt stand a chance.

You’re only changing the amulet and weapons so go nuts in sPvP. It helps to teach the basic functions, but it doesnt really teach you how to handle it in WvW. Enemies run so much different builds most of the time.

20 points in the power tree (torch traited) and 30 points in the toughness tree (prismatic understanding). Most choose the remainder as 20 points in the precision tree (sword and clone dodge traited).

Then you just decide if you want the ultimate cheeze build (condition gear) or the slightly less cheezy build (direct damage gear).

In sPvP any build based on stealth is kitten since it make you loose the match. Not to mention you cant even achieve half the damage of PvE gear.

.25s will do very little.

The entire mechanic of mantras doesnt work in practice. You just cant manage it at 2+ mantras. It need be changed.

Personally I prefer the idea of automatic build up. And it doesnt hurt if the 3 mantra trait is dropped a tier.

Sort of like a signet, which builds charges after X seconds. For example, the healing mantra has 5s between each charge builds up. When you push the button, it will consume all the charges and start to stack again.

But I dont know. I just know that the channeling is annoying as kitten, its just not possible to enjoy yourself in battle while staring at your skill bar all the time trying to work out when to charge what. With the short cooldowns mantras has, you have to cycle them 90% of the time. Hell in 1 minute, you’re spending like 30-45 seconds just channeling. Is that supposed to be fun? And then you had some downtime as well.

My point still stands, in this game she sounds like a girl trying to sound like a man. Just because she doesn’t sound like she’s pretending to be a man in something else doesn’t change how she voices the character here.

Except that its still lore accurate. Norns are raised as Warriors and they need to be fierce in battle. They cant show themselves inferior to men.

I dont think I’ve ever seen a Norn conversation in the line of

“Honey… sweety… please… when you’re out there on the battlefield, all covered in blood and bashing your enemies heads in, try, please do try, to giggle in a girly voice instead of acting all buff and yelling warcries or insults. You’re making Norn women look too manly. Also, remember the way we recognize friendly Norns – if you yell ‘Sparkles!’ they have to respond ‘Sunshine!’. You dont run up to them and smack your heads together while laughing.”

However, you are complaining about a 21 min fight at a Garrison? I can recall a 40+ min Bay fight from top of my head. Those fights are what I hope for in WvW when I can’t be bothered solo roaming.

Haha wat… That’s not even long. I remember a roughly 1 hour and 30 minutes fight for garrison once. They just kept bannering the lord. It was impossible for either side to win – they had too many players there yet wasnt organized enough to push us out. We killed the lord so many times we lost count.

Brought battle fatigue to a whole new level.

Still think the NPCs should suffer same limitations as a player – they go into downstate rather than fully killed (with an appropriate huge amount of HP of course). There they can be ressed. If they are fully killed, they cant.

10/20/20/20/0 greatsword/staff is one of the more offensivly defense oriented full ranged omni builds I know of. Mind wrack dmg, deceptive evasion, mantra cd+heal, staff and glamour cd. With all the strong passive traits you can frontline in zergs and if you pack zerker armor you can roam/PvE decently enough.

Arcane theivery isnt underpowered, its just plain unpredictable. It can be evaded by pretty much anything and it has a silly delayed cast time. This combo mean you cant effectivly use it. I prefer null field when glamour is traited. Arcane I would only use if there are no other options. It only truly shine against perplexity builds (assuming you dont miss).

IMO they should do one of two things:

- Make it insta-cast

- Make it unblockable.

My guess is the removal of mathup forums. I’m pretty sure Anet already regrets doing so.

No doubt is was a very bad move from Anet, the matchup forum was part of wvw content, no matter how dumb many posts there could be.

Without the matchup forum the wvw matches feels empty.

Indeed. Sure we got that unofficial forum, but its not the same. They could have just added a disclamer and player acceptance button that the matchup forums will only be moderated in extreme cases, expect to be flamed in there.

Dont worry, a fix is coming. At least that’s what they said 6 or something months ago.

45 – Keyboard bug —>Sometimes certain keys such as 2,4,5 stop working and the only fix is to drop from a cliff and faceplant to solve it.

A slightly less futile way to fix it is to equip siege, then put it away again.

People seem to be forgetting that the WvW we have today is extremely smooth compared to early WvW, where people ran around and just lolled at 30v30+ engagements because of anywhere from 5 to 50 seconds skill lag. And its still not perfect.

The difference between zerker gear and PvT is roughly taking twice the damage. Its easy to see on your own attacks. On my Mesmer I can hit up to around 1800-2000 with the GS auto-attack against zerkers (your build may vary) while I get as low as 600-800 on heavy armor/PvT/protection. Some of the extreme toughness builds can go even lower, but then again they hit like wet noodles and you kill them anyway.

ESO early access is smack in the days season 2 start. How many DAoC fans do we have in WvW? How many people in WvW like massive fights? How many enjoy siege warfare and keep battles? Yep, that’s the kind of guys GW2 are going to loose for at least a month. IE much of the WvW population. What’s left is just PvE pugs dropping into WvW for fun. The guilds that remain are going to roflstomp all opposition, making PvE pugs leave as well. Which mean the guilds wont have much of a challenge and find it unfun. Other 20-30 man raid guilds will probably loose a good chunk of their WvW players and be left in shambles, unable to muster even a dozen people, again finding it unfun.

Oh it works for a while, then it just become an infuriating mechanic. You will forget to charge. And you’ll blame yourself.

I only recommend full Mantra builds if you’re good at playing piano. Because that’s what it will feel like, constantly cycling the keys to maintain effectivness.

Personally, I prefer having fun when I sPvP.

Newbies? Everyone would massacre their own team. Except maybe dagger/dagger theives. Imagine a large group of guardians with staff running around in zerg vs zerg. It would be hilarious.

For full friendly fire to work, we’d need several things:

- No auto-attacks. Ever. Each attack has to be a choice, requiring a redesign of the entire combat system to use the mouse as an attack.

- Enlarged maps by 10x-20×. We need to be able to spread in order not to accidentally hit friendlies. If we use the current maps, a 60 vs 60 vs 60 man battle wouldnt even fit on the plains east of bay. A “small” keep would have to increase to the size Stonemist.

- Full collision detection. We cant run through friendlies or enemies since that may mean accidentally running into more friendlies and hurting them. We have to be stopped by friendlies and enemies.

Sound like a different game? Yes. That’s because it is.

At best and realisticly, they could add “fake” FF which basicly say that you do 1/5th damage if you happen to hit a friend. So if 5 people run together and swing a hammer toward 1 person, they will only hit each other for the eqvivalent of 1 “full damage” hit, meaning they have a higher reaction time to spread out or stop the attack. The AoE limit would prevent damage from becoming extreme – in fact it would prevent damage from even hitting the enemy most of the time.

But that’s no fun. Seeing friendlies be insta-killed is more fun, I must admit.

Yea but travelers got extremly shi**y stats for pve.

Depends on how you define kittenty stats. Yeah you got less crit damage and stat bonuses… but IMO that is easily balanced out by the fact you no longer want to kill yourself or your strangle your cat when you are slowly, oh so very slowly, making your way across a pve zone.

A Mesmer with travellers have already killed a mob by the time a slowpoke Mesmer arrive. So arguing reduced dps by a few percent is a little pointless.

Curious though, what kind of traits/weapons do you pick up with a 0/20/20/20/0+10 build? I’ve tried some of those before and just found myself doing little other than surviving or popping huge cooldowns (temporal curtain, feedback, null field) then sitting around waiting for recharges.

Greatsword + traited staff. Restorative mantras, cooldown and menders. What you pick in terms of other traits and skills depend on what you want. You can go 30/20/20 and use quickness on interrupt for some fun romps. 20/30/20 and go pseudo PU using veil, decoy, MI, sword/scepter/torch instead. 20/20/30 if you want to slip in some glamour traits. 25/20/25 just take the passive traits.

The 20/10/20/20/0 build (I missed 10 points in my post above lol) is similar, but you trait both greatsword and staff at the loss of deceptive evasion. Its basicly a defensive twohand build (20/30/20/0/0 or 30/20/20/0/0 being the offensive ones). Better zerg performance if you know how to handle your greatsword, less solo capability.

Shatter is great if you’re in an offensive and good guild group or fighting morons, weak in a random zerg against an even bigger random zerg.

My zerg specs are usually either 0/20/20/30/0, 0/25/20/25/0 or 20/10/20/10/0. I use the same gear for all of them (~2K power/prec/tough, 1.5K vit, 60-75% crit). Yes I run 20/20/0/0/30 shatter (or PU depending on mood) when roaming and even when the zergs start to form… However there is a huge difference in survivability when you put some traits down the center. The bursts of shatter is absolutely glorious and I do make an evil laugh at times, but living is slightly better.

AOE for the small group is only the way to defeat mindless stacking zerg. Like 300 ppl from Sparta
But healing shoul has the 5 ppl cap.

It was more like 1000 people holding the line (of which Sparta had 300). They where against an estimated 70-300K Persians. Lets say 200K for arguments sake.

That is a 1:200 ratio in terms of manpower.

Your “limited” 5 men – still offering full boons to each other – should in other words be able to stand against 1000 players if you wish to compare with the battle of Thermopylae. Since that is unlikely to happen ingame, they actually have a huuuuuuge advantage compared to what the Spartans and their allies faced.

Next if we compare the reported losses from the battle, all the Greek rear guard died (more than 1000 if we include earlier losses) while the Persians lost ~20K. 20K out of 200K is a fairly low 10% casualties. The Persians still won the battle.

Translating these numbers isnt exact, but your 5 Spartan defenders would still die horribly to 30 attackers that loose a couple of players tops.

Which happen to be exactly what happen during most GW2 fights. There’s always some rallybot in the zerg.

So I fail to see your point.

SPvP will definitely make you a better player.

Not really at WvW though. Its very different fighting against someone in WvW and someone in sPvP. The meta builds arent even close in stats, especially for the extremes you will meet while roaming (such as theives in full zerker stealth builds). The tactics you counter them with in sPvP is impossible in WvW because you’re going to be dead before you realize it.

The only real way to become better at WvW… is playing more WvW. Mastering a profession mean going through each and every build. Mastering your enemy mean going through each and every of their builds. If you’re really bad at 1v1, cant kill anything and you’ve already gone through your profession at depth… Just stop torturing yourself. Pick another and try again.

The maps arent anywhere near big enough to use mounts that improve speed over swiftness and the waypoints are very close to each other. Having beasts that look like mounts and move at the same pace as players would be sort of pointless. They’re already in the game and they’re called Charr.

I udnerstand that some people want to have a change of scenery and thats good, but ESO is not near to compete with GW2

So you’re saying that the 2000 player PvP campaigns on a map that’s 20x the size of GW2 borders, complete with rankings and PvE/roaming content doesnt compete with GW2 WvW?

What do people want this hypothetical expansion to include, really? Just PvE? I dont know about you but I want better World vs World. It doesnt matter if Anet would release a massive PvE expansion – what draws me and many others into GW2 is WvW. I guild raid for hours every night – I barely venture into PvE zones for days at a time. What they have done so far is just bandaid solutions. EoTM is nice, but it doesnt solve issues like coverage/PPT.

These are the kind of people that I fear GW2 is about to loose. What’s left? Roleplayers in PvE? HA! I dont even dare to enter Divinitys Reach anymore, everywhere you go there is a wierd person lurking in a corner.

Once the guilds leave (and all anyone really care about is WvW guilds), GW2 will be a hollow shell.

I dont think it matter. People will want to try it out anyway. Surely I (and around half the people in my guild) cant be the only ones thinking like that? I doubt anyone think its going to be good for at least 6 months, but if it show promise and foundation is decent enough… Lets just say that Anet has long since missed their chance to make me believe that they can change WvW. Still havent seen something as simple as improving commander tags, which was promised what, a year ago? :/

Technically possible, yes.

During the beta, Plains of Ashford was attacked by the Shatterer, corrupting players and enabling PvP in the zone (corrupted vs players) while Eir and Brimstone was walking around insta-killing corrupted players in sight (they where full level 80 and players where scaled down, lol). All to epic music.

Still best event ever :p

What would be the point? The only reason to enter the PvE world is the events. Having PvP there would be stupid, no one could do events. If you remove the PvE events and turn one server into a PvP server, then no one would enter the zones to begin with because there is no point. At best, we’re talking some activity in Orr for farming materials. Yeah great fun with FFA PvP while people are trying to farm mats. Perhaps the dungeons? Errr… They are group activities. I doubt a 5 man group would find it fun to slaughter each other for a while on the way to farm CoF (only to find a thief or two ganking everyone portalling in before their loading screen go away).

If you actually remade the zones to have some interesting PvP activities, then you’d have EoTM or alternativly WvW… And its easier to just join those too.

How about no nothing… NCSoft is surely looking at Wildstar as its “wow killer” (yeah I know, lol) and they probably want GW2 players to splurge money on it as well because GW2 is at the end of its supported life. With ESO RvR coming, GW2 isnt alone with the WvW anymore and I am guessing a loss of at least 30-50% WvW players for release month, then some will come back due to monthly fees (or horrible gameplay failure). This is in turn will make it a worse game for everyone left in WvW because season 2 is smack in the middle of this. When people leave, Anet no longer earn much through the gemstore and wont be inclined to make larger patches, they’ll start ramping up work on the next project if they havent already (GW3? :p).

But maybe I’m just a doomsayer.

In fact you dont even need to double the damage. Just make damage a percentage based on the enemy health. 100% is base, then you add the crit damage.

That way, no one even have to fight theives. They just walk up and stab you, then you can respawn and actually play.

Anet only have automated reporting, there are no GMs. So its just to report and then forget about it cause nothing will happen.

If you got a friend in their guild, why not ask him to tag along and see how they are doing it, lol? If they are cheating/haxxing/whatever, then they should obviously be kicked by their guildleader. If their guildleader is doing it, your friend is in the wrong guild.

The warbanner doesnt need to be “redesigned”.

Its the NPC downed state that should be added to the game. Yes you heard me. Why shouldnt champion NPCs behave the same way players do? When a keep lord goes down, he should go into downed state. Of course have alot more HP than the average player, everything scaled correctly to player count. Similar skills as players (knockback, heal, etc). NPCs can be ressed from downed state, just like players. They suffer the same penalties. And after 5 times in quick sequence (or whatever it is), they are completely killed and cannot be ressed by the warbanner anymore.

IE the warbanner doesnt need a redesign, its the NPCs that need redesigning. They already did this for the living story (toxic) so its technically possible.

I’m not sure that mesmers have the kind of sustain to pull this off. They might be able to get one down instantly, but they’re missin the sustained dps required to take control of the area around that person in order to get him hard downed. Especially outnumbered when the clones will go down to static damage from nearby foes.

What they lack in sustain they make up for in burst and stealth. If you suprise a a group of 20 and down 5-10 of them, you should have still be able to spike at least half of them from stealth. Repeat just one time and the battle is pretty much won.

This churn bomb doesn’t work on 50 man map groups. But it has yet to be tested when 50 Eles churn bomb a 50 man map Zerg. I imagine it would be quite a spectacle, of nothin else

That’s what you think. Piken ran an all Engineer raid yesterday and supply crates absolutely destroyed the enemy blobs/zergs/guild groups/everything. We’re talking nearly instantly downing half a 50 man blob. If weakass Engineers can do it, I’m fairly sure Eles would be able to do it too :p

Since we’ve ran necro, mesmer and guardian before, I’m sure eles are coming up. I especially look forward to the 50 man ranger raid, lol. Can you say snare elite?

I’d use 3 shatter Mesmers instead of 3 eles. Stealth entire group, pick a target, blink, mirror, target is dead (and probably everything around it, lol). With all 3 running MI you can completely control bursts from stealth every 20 second or so. Besides, its EoTM – I would be surprised if 3 shatter Mesmers couldnt wipe 50 people there.

To simplisticly sum it up in terms of group sizes:
1-2 players: Build for PU/high dps (shatter work too but PU is a stronger roamer)
3-20 people: Build for shatter/medium-high dps with some survival thrown in
20+ people: Build for whatever the hell you want as long as you got ~3000 armour.

You could build for phantasm if you want but tbh, the playstyle bore me to death even more than cheezy condition damage PU builds.

Does not a guild zerg have a distinct shape and definition? You will immiedietly differentiate a 50 man random pug group running randomly after a commander, none of them on TS – compared to a 50 man single-tag guild group where all are on TS. They most definetly have a distinct shape and definition in terms of group behaviour. Thus, its not a blob.

The most obvious difference being the fact that a blob does not have a melee train. Its just a… blob.
