From what gather in a quick read (havent played since yesterday), the illusions “die” because they attack a target that no longer “exist” (ie it has no target anymore, the original target is gone/stealthed). Its a basic cleanup function.

This would imply a change in the AI behaviour of summons/pets that is intentional, but they may not have taken into account illusions and the way a Mesmer works. I mean its obvious that Anet dont play Mesmers.

And ENDREBUILD… That’s just a kittened statement. Mesmers rely on their illusions. The entire proffession is balanced around illusions. A Mesmer without illusions is pointless and might as well be removed from the game. We weaponswap because of illusions and playing a Mesmer require alot more weaponswaps than any other class in order to be effective.

Dont see this a nerf to Mesmers guys!

See it as a buff to stealth. Might as well just admit it, we all hated how weak and pitifull stealth was before. Maybe now people will actually play perma-stealth thieves and PU mesmers.

Can you please make it so that stealth instantly bring you out of combat as well, pretty please Anet? This buff isnt even enough.

I just found it funny as I’ve recently been playing WvW and I keep noticing the abundance of mesmers. I think warriors come in close second, but I see a lot of mesmers and engineers now. Whether it’s in a party or a zerg im facing against, it’s always a bunch of mesmers xD

Alot? Where?!

In WvW at least there is about 20-30 warriors and guardians per mesmer. Guild groups of 20 are sometimes lucky to have 1 mesmer. That said, they are still one of the better roamers. Its the same thing with thief. Is that a popular class? You meet one every other meter if you run alone, it must be popular… But really, its in little better shape than the mesmer.

In PvE, it doesnt really matter what you play. Warriors and guardians still rule dungeons.

In PvP, they are common in the lower brackets, incredibly rare and disliked on the higher end.

Why should EoTM be any different? If people cannot speak English, then they can speak their own language in more local channels – group chat or say chat, or of course guild chat.

I’m guessing Desolation in PvE, Vizunah in WvW. Neither are the “best” – Desolation just got alot of guesters while Vizunah base their WvW victory on bringing 60+ people to 20 man fights and 24/7 coverage.

So I have no idea what you mean by best at everything. No server is.

To me its lust a lazy act of making those Radiant and Hellfire Skins look for all 3 Armor Types exactly the same.

Oh I feel quite the opposite, I love that you can get some metal on light armor. I’m sure that Anet original idea for acheivement light armor was a glowing miniskirt on your head, two short skirts on your shoulders and two slightly longer skirts on your arms.

Thank God they got lazy and just went with the metal pieces they already created for heavy, instead of the skirts.

Centaur runes work best if you use the mantra heal, but then you need either 30 in the power tree (for 3 mantras) or restorative mantras for the actual heal to be good.

You can use centaur runes with the Mirror-heal as well, and will have perma- or almost perma-swiftness.

Problem being that if you happen to pop it before combat, you’re out of healing for 15 seconds. If you’re suddenly out of swiftness in the middle of combat, but at 100% HP you’ll “waste” the only heal you got. Mantra healing with centaur runes even that out but provided more but lower per click healing. Its better at maintaining swiftness, plain and simple.

But its not impossible to use mirror or ether feast of course, whatever floats your boat. The only thing it sucks with is obviously the signet.

Personally I’d like for armor types to be just that… Armor types. Not something that’s restricted to a profession. Anet has already made it so that heavy armor has more armor values, reducing damage taken. Now make it so that heavy armor also has less endurance regen, while the opposite is true for light armor – and of course a middle ground for medium armor.

Voila. All professions can wear all armor on equal terms. You want to wear heavy? You take a hit on your endurance regen. You want to wear light? You got less armor. Warriors in light armor, Mesmers in heavy armor, Necros in medium armor… You choose.

The only limitation would obviously be that whatever you choose, you cant mix. Its all light, all heavy or all medium. Otherwise it would be a pain for Anet armor designers, lol.

Hmm ok cool. Just a question or two with power PU.

Is knights armor and a combo of valk and zerk trinkets ok? Also are centaur runes ok due to lack of general mobility. I play many classes and don’t have a main so traveler not an option.

You dont generally need HP if you want an offensive PU build. Just knights and zerk is probably enough.

Taking 20 points away and putting in the HP tree is hard for a real PU build (0/20/30/20/0 is good and I often run it in zergs, but its not true PU), so using 30/10/30 would be the only option, loosing DE. Decent if you’re playing it phantasm style, not so much if you’re a shatterer.

Ok uh, i just tried a few battles.
I fought a thief and a warrior.

I have invaders acolyte armor and weapons (karma 1.3k apiece), no food or anything else except leveling jewelery
My full greatsword combo did maybe 20% of their hp.
Me and phantasms auto attacking while the warrior stood still (he realized i was noob) couldn’t even bring him below 95% hp.

Even with the thief i could never bring him under 80% hp.

Was it gear or what? Is there much better gear available than acolyte? What’s the different in percent?

My GS says an autoattack at max range is 516 damage, hidden-cat build.
What’s an autoattack damage for people with gear?

Well leveling jewelry sound bad. And invaders is bad at roaming too, you need some serious damage (either condition or crit). Karma weapons is bad, you need the badge or bought exotics gear. You can get some 43K (I think) karma armor peices from the temples though.

Both could have been full on tanks, but that should only mean they do very little damage in return.

Most MMOs have entire classes built around dots. It makes for a more strategic way of combat. Your total output is limited, only the delivery is in your hand. In turn, you have to buy your damage time to destroy the other person

Yes well this is GW2 WvW and whether or not most MMOs have classes built around dots wont change the fact I think condition builds are boring as kitten to play. That’s why my feedback to the OP is “dont”. But he can choose to run whatever he likes.

Too bad condition PU is soooooo booooooring. I’d spread out the condition damage on the other stats and boost crit damage to ~75%.

With direct damage it doesnt matter if you loose a fight – its still going to be an epic fight. Basing your style around hiding in stealth while conditions tick… not so much epic.

Crit damage doesn’t have scaling issues, toughness does. Toughness needs to be scaled back, while crit increases. Hopefully, having a second sigil available for 2H weapons makes up for the imbalance, but only time will tell.

You only need to look at PvP to see that you’re just plain wrong.

Nothing people say is going to change the fact that PvP gear stats are far more balanced than PvE. Is it better? Hell if I know, but it is definetly more balanced. And in PvP, 50% crit damage is pretty much a berserker. That’s how big the difference is. Toughness? Its not related in PvP. On my 20/30/20 “damage” oriented PvP Mesmer I only have 35% crit damage, lol.

But of course that wont work in PvE, sadly. You can still too easily achieve impossible PvP combos. If Anet could find a good “middle ground” and unify PvE and PvP to something that is acceptable for both sides, that’d be great. Dont think its going to happen though.

You are assuming that the crit chance will remain on items. I doubt it. Sigil of Accuracy will probably become Sigil of Ferocity, granting +50 ferocity or something. Wouldnt surprise me if it even turn into a stacking sigil (but probably not stack as high as 250). That way they cripple high dps builds even further (cant have +crit chance and +ferocity on the same weapon as its just two stacking sigils).

So question – what is the best way a mesmer can help his/her team and what role do we fulfill?

If we’re talking sPvP (judging by the “point defender” comment), then the best role of the Mesmer I’ve found is to be a burster. It doesnt matter what build you’re on as long as you got some damage. Sure bunker builds work if you want/like that, but for the Mesmer that IMO is the most boring role they can take and it goes against the principle of constant clone generation, core of Mesmer PvP philosophy. Offensivly a Mesmer is just so much more fun.

Personally I run a pure weapons based barbarian/valkyrie 20/30/20 staff/greatsword with speed runes build. I dont have any “role”, I just win fights by firepower, personal skill and being where they need me. Most teams seem to like it when I come in cavalry style and roflstomps an enemy they cant kill/fight to a standstill, lol. Perhaps it sounds brutish, but its effective. Though I’m probably alone to run it, lol.

As a tradeoff to defenders being able to properly defend, attackers should be able to properly besiege and starve defenders. Loosing 3000 HP every 5 second inside a keep that has no supplies and is contested sounds fair.

Killing a pure balled up melee train is the same tactic as any train – take out the backline. The only difference here is that you have to create that backline with stuns, drag out the train. Kill them off one by one while avoiding the head of the train. It takes alot of time and is very susceptable to enemy reinforcements, but the melee train itself rarely have any power outside a very small focus area, meaning ranged people can circle at will.

Trebuchets historically you built at a fixed position, due to their size. They dont have wheels ingame either.

And, by the way, you don’t just win by knocking out someone off a node if he just walks in right after. You have to fight sometimes and the node is there just to not make professions with insane escapes (see Thief) extremely frustrating to fight against, it is something that forces people to play risky in order to win.

IMO Anet tried to make their version of Conquest (ie Battlefield) and its just bad. The zones are too small, the one-guy-block-all method of gaining control is crap, maps are too compressed, 3 caps for 10 guys is 1 too many to actually create decent group PvP as the main tactics is to gather everyone on one contested point whiling avoiding and recapping the other two, 3 caps for 16 guys is 1 too few instead.

The map with the protected keep lord you can kill is kind of a decent idea (better than the two fairly pointless bosses) and bring something in addition to the stale capping zones (not to mention that map also has the larger central zone for quite epic battles, another unique feature) but even there they managed to fail on the balancing for the worth of the keep lord, its ridiculous that a team can win a landslide victory by loosing for a large part of the round. Its the only map that actually try to somewhat follow the philosophy of having a clear line of battle rather than circle capping.

But then again what do I care, I’ll just play WvW while the love of developers rain down upon me and they fix everything that’s wrong with it by using the PvP team.

Yes the animation and graphics isnt the best for DAoC(all rendered locally) but it’s what 10 yo+, and whats that got to do with netcode? You could run forward, strafe, jump, all had its own animation just like GW2.

I mean on the whole and in terms of amounts and precision of these thing – not just the fact they exist.

As a comparison, ~17s into that video the player is targetted by what I presume is a ranged attack. Its simple, it goes from Player A to Player B. Its just a local render thing. DAoC has lots of such attacks right? Its hard to tell in the video and I never played it. I cant even see any ground AoE, just player targetted attacks.

Sure in GW2 you have simple attacks like that as well, but there are more complicated ones. Compare in GW2 when a Mesmer toss a ranged attack such as a iWarlock which has its own location, direction, a tiny bit of AI, health, etc. That alot of things transmitted over the network even if its seemingly simple. Then that phantasm will fire a physical projectile which also has its own location, direction, speed, damage depending on boons of the target it may hit, etc. That projectile is obviously also checked against if a player dodges (or if anyone cross its path for that matter).

So the Mesmer and of course Necro is actually a pretty decent examples of how you cant compare them. Each of them in terms of network load probably equal 10-15 daoc player characters. Even the Guardian has complex summons.

Hell if you really think about it, not even melee weapons in GW2 is player targetted – they are AoE. Which means alot of calculations and checks against other players based on what’s in front of you.

Do we really want to remove all that for the sake of having more AoE targets? Even if we could get 1000 players into a border running around with a melee weapon that can only hit whatever is targetted even if its there are 5 more players standing in front of you kind of goes against the point.

However… If you where to say that some attacks could be tweaked in terms of the amount of people they can hit, then yes I can agree with that. Arrowcarts definetly need to have their limit reduced to 5 while some player AoE attacks should have it increased to 10.

A PvE/WvW dude will do PvP only if he can use its PvE skins and make gold out of it. In fact, it is not a casualty that PvP population went skyrocketed when they added a profitable way to make gold in PvP.

The PvP population skyrocketed? Since when? Every day I see less and less people in the mists, last time I ran through it there was like 5 people there in the middle of primetime, lol. That’s far, far less than a year ago.

Its just to face facts – GW2 PvP is boring. Its not bad per say and tbh I think the balance between the classes with the more “moderate” stat builds are far better than the inflated PvE/WvW stats but its still a Sumo wrestling match, literally. And not many people find that fun in the long run.

WvW isnt going to kill PvP, Anet are killing it perfectly fine themselves without WvW getting in the way. Personally I think that it should be about actual PvP. Not trying to knock out your opponent from a ring to win.

I have seen that specific video before in this type of discussion and its a ridiculous comparison. Seriously, its a matter of precision. That video just shows how bloody low res old MMOs are – and I’m not talking about graphics. I’m talking about the core math behind everything. The most obvious thing being detail in movement. GW2 is 100x more detailed in how a character behaves, compared to your moving sticks with nametags and a static animation with flailing legs. This is going to be reflected in the netcode as well.

Hell, even the numbers in that video is small compared to the megablobs seen in WvW, where a battle between all 3 servers can cover the entire width of the area between east bay and garrison and last 20 minutes.

Comparing GW2 to DoAC and saying “if they did it why cant you, its almost the same game!” is a bloody insult to the developers and the achievement that is fluid WvW.

Because they want so bad for it to become e-sport… completely ignoring the fact that GW2 PvP is never going to be an e-sport.

For the rest… We already got golems. IMO golems should be considerably cheaper but also weaker. Just seeing them occasionally on the battlefield is a kitten shame, because its the most fun siege there is and the only one that actually require some thoughts during transportation.

This is no reflection on the skill level of the build or of the person behind it, it’s exactly how it sounds: PU Mesmers are simply a chore to fight against.

And you can insert pretty much any cheesy class build there. Because they all have them, and most of the people that are smart enough to run them. Gaaah another 1000hps passive regen Warrior comes to mind.

Well except possibly ranger. My only reflection on them is “Wow is that a ranger? Lolwat???”.

PU is required in WvW mostly due to Thieves. Blaim them, not the Mesmer. If the Thieves didnt have any stealth, Mesmers wouldnt have any need for stealth either and still be a competetive 1v1/roaming class.

In zergs it doesnt matter, no one care what spec you got as long as it doesnt die (and stealth doesnt really matter that much there). Hell it doesnt even matter in PvP (I’ve never seen a Mesmer run PU), damage/shatter builds are always better because there arent any perma-stealth insta-kill Thieves coming after you that you need all your own stealth to counter with.

When I went in and faced the can-only-hit-rear boss we almost failed the entire chain sequence because of one bloody ranger.

His bear was on the champ, and it was against the side of the platform. No way for us to do damage. That kittening bear… After a while the ranger was smart enough to pull him back, made it with 2 bloody seconds to spare.

Rangers are just kitten . Still think they should get this skill:

“Mercy kill”
You whisper sweet nothings into the ear of your of your pet while slowly slicing its throat. Gain +20% damage via a buff called “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few”.

Spies!!! Are u serious? Do I need to send in a DNA sample, be checked out by INTEROL, get the POPE’s blessing…..? How exactly does one of these community leaders check u out in a matter of seconds before letting u join TS3 or Mumble.

Spies are everywhere in higher tiers, no idea which server you play on. Hell this isnt even the worst thing, there are people that DDOS other servers TS.

Why this type of verification? Its real easy: so you know the guy on TS is actually on the server.

The point here is that you say in map chat that you need verification. You dont whisper, you dont join a party and wish for it and you dont request it in Lions Arch. When you say you want verification in map chat, people know that you are on the border and can be let on TS.

Spies can still get on by abusing server transfers, but at least this minimize it and make it a tad harder for casuals to just join TS and listen in.

Problem is, server population and overall strength isnt really reflected in the tiers. I am certain this is the case for multiple servers throughout the tiers. Especially now after the season is done, living story take 60% of WvW players and the other 40% are kittened off at nothing being done about WvW while all focus go to living story.

I am on Piken and its quite a hilarious situation. We no longer have the population to give a match in our tier even during primetime (outmanned in our own border 15 minutes into reset night, great fun!) yet next week we’ll probably face off with Vizunah or SFR again (or both) because the randomizer think we’re high enough tier to beat them.

Edit: Lol just checked current scores. The only tier more unbalanced than T2 in terms of points is T9, haha.

Its impossible to balance each individual class because the balance issue here is between roaming and zerging and the builds they require/force. Zergers force roamers into stealth builds and roamers force zergers to ball up into group builds.

The only way to balance it is to force zergers to roam and roamers to zerg.

Which is kind of stupid.

Add the fact that stomping counts as an attack (reveal stealth) and you got a perfect solution for the downed/spiked state in both WvW and PvP. Damage breaking ressing is harsh in PvE though (boss battles)… but hey I’m all for a tougher time on zerkers.

Well, the vocal minority probably play WvW alot since that’s where most dedicated players gather (PvE guilds? No one care).

And that is just one big dissapointment that Anet keep ignoring. Sure they have done some impressive things but the core mechanics are still flawed. Hell, they cant even nerf arrowcarts. Something as simple as that, just one thing. Take down the damage a notch because superiors+traits+glitching is completely insane. But no. They dont care.

Dont worry, once EoTM come out WvW will be irrelevant and probably removed anyway. Welcome to WvW 2.0 – its actually just instanced PvE champ train, but they enabled some PvP too to please PvP wait I mean WvW fans! Yay! Because Anet care about PvP err I mean WvW. That’s right.

I havent heard a dev say it isnt going to happen, why isnt it, and where was that stated if you dont mind me asking?

Well we are talking about the AoE limit, right? Not the 5 man party limit, which is ridiculous to begin with (the GW2 engine can obviously handle more, since we got 8 man parties in PvP – WvW should have 10 man parties at the very least).

What we are dealing with if the AoE limit is increased, the calculations of conditions/damage/everything are increased expontentially. We’re not talking twice the load if you increase the limit to 10 man (ie double it). We’re talking many, many times the load. Limiting this is a way to keep the game playable. Could they remove it? Sure. But I’m guessing that they already tried that and the result was rather ugly.

It would be rather boring to see 50v50 engage each other, the fps go down to 1-2 and then suddenly its 50v0 because 3 elementalists in the rear dropped meteor storm at the same time and killed everyone between frame 1 and frame 2.

Wouldnt it be nice if all boon removal skills had a 50% chance to cause revealed?

Problem solved. Stealth still isnt a boon, yet can be – with some RNG – forcibly removed by numerous ingame skills (and IMO, they should add more for all classes).

Zerging-Get rid of the 5 person limit. This is a big reason why zerging exists, and it’s also a big reason why smaller groups have trouble taking out bigger groups, especially when defending.

I really wish people would stop bringing this up. Its completely pointless. Its not going to happen, devs have already explained why multiple times. Focus on the things that can be changed.

Well there are as many “solutions” to the scoring mechanic as there are people posting on this forum… So its a rather broad topic. But I can argue a part of it.

If we assume that PPT is kept intact on the whole then I would change the “value” of each keep according to a dynamic curve. It would no longer be a fixed amount each tick, it would also be visible on the minimap what the current value of a keep is. The value go up when its higher tier. In the example below, do note the completely random numbers, I’m just using simple ones here. Maybe a T3 keep should be worth double that of a T2, whatever (10-20-40). Maybe the ramp up/down should be considerably slower. Examples.

Capping a T3 keep scenario:
PPT + 0 : A T3 keep worth 30 points each tick is capped.
PPT + 1: The keep is worth 25 points (5 lost each tick)
PPT + 2: The keep is worth 20 points (5 more lost). It has not been upgraded.
PPT + 4: The keep is worth 10 points. Its still not upgraded, but an upgrade is ordered.
PPT + X: 10 points is the max worth of a T1 keep.
PPT + 7: The keep was upgraded to T2.
PPT + 8: The keep is worth 15 points.
PPT + 9: The keep is worth 20 points (max for T2).
Etc and so on.

The point of this system would to:

- Encourage active defense of newly capped high tier keeps even if they now wooden, as their worth is slowly dropping down rather than instantly reduced.

- Reduce the effect of the “night shift” as keeps that has remained uncontested during the night and upgraded to T3 slowly ramp up points, rather than instantly be worth max.

- Actually bring meaning for capping a higher tier keep, rather than just the defenders sitting in there with 10 arrowcarts laughing. You dont “flip” a keep anymore, you’re literally taking the points they built up. An idea would be to award the tier difference (Tx to T1) directly to the capping team.
