And how many low IQ Asura design and build their own golems?
Judging by the amount of golems in the world, all of them.
More like 30%, lol.
You cant really “farm” essences, other than salvaging globs. And for that you need alot of gold. At 200%, 200 gold worth of ectos is a couple of percent. Dont have hundreds of gold in the bank? Yeah. That’s the proper time to stop. Even if we’re taking into account selling the dust, its a precursor worth of gold you need to gain like 20% MF.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Not everyone wants to play in groups though, and even when you attempt to gather a group in Orr for a single skill point surrounded by a veteran and a champ, the place is literally a desert. Either way you’re at a loss in those situations.
You’re never “at a loss”.
- You can guest another server if you happen to be on a lowpop one and no one respond on map chat.
- You can request aid in the guild or even better – multiple guilds. Anet has made it so that people can join several.
You cant do either? Well then you have problems with group content. I fail to see the issue. Obvious problem is obvious. I dont think Anet has ever said you’re supposed to solo everything.
You dont actually need any phantasm traits to use them as aggro magnets. You just change the way you play and the weapons you use. Pick any mob (or group of mobs) and they should barely be able to touch you before they die. The only difficult thing when roaming PvE is 80 champions. Some veterans can be troublesome depending on mechanic (like veteran risen giants spawning a gazillion grubs) but should still be doable. Anything below 80 is easy peasy.
Alas, the need to play together with other players for a common goal (such as taking down a champion mob) is a bad sideeffect of playing an MMO.
So many good and easy and minor changes
Easy? Ha! No, everything is too easy for Anet. That’s why nothing ever happen.
Just imagine the time it would take to add a secondary push to shield which make it detonate just like the torch prestige blast and apply 4s of protection on 5 peeps at 600 range (just grabbing something out of the blue, it could be apply torment too or something). 5 minutes? 10? Maybe even 20?!?!
Nope, too easy.
Anet will probably remake it to summon an Elder Phantasm dragon that has bugged AI and take 6 months to animate because they have to find a dragon to motion capture first (current dragons wont do, they’re only fixed pieces).
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
- iDeathsman
a phantasm that charges the target to launc it
Dont you mean a phantasm that does the charge animation while standing still and then turn 180 degrees to launch whatever target is behind it?
It has to match the performance of the other Phantasms or it would be OP.
I have one more question for you guys;
I’m not sure wether I should go greatsword(high burst) or staff(survivability)… I’m close to a full glass cannon with a mix of zerker and valkyrie. What do you guys recommend?
For shatter, you need the greatsword. Its the one thing that give you oomph at range and for something that’s supposed to build as a player killer you cant really replace it. I would say there are two combos available: gs/s/torch (though the torch can really be replaced with anything, its just good for roaming) or gs/staff. The staff is considerably harder to time burst with though, you have to look out for that iWarlock bolt incoming before you pop your illusions. If you do get it right you can do insane damage.
Personally I prefer the gs/staff combo – sword leap is still soooo bugged, ugh… At least the staff only drops you through the terrain sometimes :p
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Since no one mention wtf a .psd file is, I cant make any posters.
The obvious one for an Asuran guardian would be “Keep calm and… POLEDANCE LOL”
they need to go old school with AoE damage:
remove cap, but make it damage/people = how much each takes
i seriously don’t understand why games stopped using that formula.
Err… That would only mean people stack even more.
Really, it cant be fixed. Zerging is here due to game mechanics that cannot be changed. The argument at the moment is this:
Anet: “Look, we built a rectangular house for you!”
Players: “We want a square house.”
Anet: “Err… We cant remake the foundation of the house now. Do you want a second floor?”
Players: “No it need to be square.”
Anet: “But its impossible. We could add balconies on the second floor to make it sort of square?”
Players: “No we cant live in the house without it being square.”
Anet: “We cant make it square.”
Players: “It have to be square.”
Anet: “…”
The best suggestions I have read still lies within the commander system – which Anet coincendentally has utterly failed to deliver on. Activly encourage “smaller” groups of say 25 peeps to stay together. It doesnt need to punish 50 people for running on a commander, it need to be bring thoughts like “hey wtf are those 25 peeps getting so much bonuses for being around their commander, we want a commander too!” to the other players. In its current state, zerg is the meta and multiple commanders is completely taboo. This is something Anet can change by completely revamping how the commander tag works.
To me, its real simple: We can use the boon system. The commander get up to 25 stacks of “commander bonus” for every player in his squad that is within a certain distance. Each stack give HP/damage/etc bonuses. The same stack is transferred to all players within the same distance to the commander. So 10 players near a commander would have 10 stacks each. Players not in the commander squad do not get bonuses.
And there you have it. Running in multiple commander groups is activly encouraged because one commander cant cover an entire border. The taboo is gone. Will you see 75 man groups running with 3×25? Most definetly – but at least its something that’s not impossible, unlike changing the way AoE works :/
Sidenote: and before you say “OMG this will mean the death of guilds running without a tag!” of course there should be an option for guild only visible tags. And even for pugs, the commander should see everyone in his group and manage players (ie kick/invite/etc) so that a guild group can run with a “locked” yet visible tag no pug can enter.

Just play a couple of rounds of each. Its not like its hard to change specs in PvP.
Ha, and I just realized something.
Does Anet think WvW is so boring that WvW news cant contain WvW screenshots, only screenshots from EoTM?
Says alot :/
So its starts just when TESO headstart begins, what a coincidence…………….. NOT. Just pathetic.
TESO is awful. Won’t matter anyways.
Agreed; teso is bad.
So Bronze, silver & gold are gone. You win a round & could conceivably end up 20 vs 14 vs 10 in the server ranking, simply because all three server won a round?
Unfortunetly, it wont matter whether its good or bad. Its in the middle of launch where so, so many people will be trying out TES. I havent played the beta, I dont particularly like the silence over AvA details, but since many in my guild plan on playing it I was going to give it the benefit of doubt and try it out for at least a month.
I’ve raided in WvW almost every day… Maybe its time for a break. If I miss the initial WvW tournament play its unlikely that I’ll get into it at a later time. The last season was fun the first two weeks – boring and bland the rest. Skins no longer interest me so not even the end reward is enticing.
From easiest to hardest to do well with(imho):
1) Warrior
2) Guardian
3) Mesmer
4) Thief
5) Necro
6) Engineer
7) Elementalist
Not even close if we’re talking about the zerg meta, lol.
Guardian is way easier than Warrior (due to shotgun staff), Elementalist comes in right after Necro (which would be somewhat equal to Warrior). Mesmer is at the bottom together with the Engineer and Thief.
I agree with your placement of the Ranger.
WvW activity has gone up and down since EoTM but as of late… Its not that bad. Yesterday my server had a small queue on EB, no queue on the borders yet WvW was still filled with action.
On the whole, I think EoTM is a good thing. Its basicly an always available PvP zone for the entire server community. That can never be bad. If anything, for me it break up the stale sPvP more than it does WvW proper. Why would I want to join random sPvP now? Its alot more fun to just get 5 peeps in EoTM and run around. Hell it would be interesting if they limited EoTM to PvP specs!!! That would really separate it from WvW. Used an experiment to see what PvP specs mean on a massive scale.
But… The quality of EoTM does make me sad when I look at the current WvW maps. The quality is simply miles apart. Terrain is amazing and keep design is leaps and bounds better to the point of being ridiculous and almost a different game. Whoever designed EoTM over at Anet outdid themselves. My personal opinion is that its a tad complicated terrain that could be scaled back a notch, but that’s very much personal. Still, going from EoTM to WvW feel like playing WoW again :/
The worst part is that apparently according to this thread there are a lot of people who defend this. Meaning nothing is going to change. Meaning GW2 will always be flawed.
That’s not why nothing is going to change.
Nothing is going to change because Anet has said no, never going to happen. The result would never be worth the cost. AoE zerker blob meta and expontentially increasing lag vs keeping it as is with melee/ranged combos and fairly fluent gameplay? Its a no brainer.
Removal of the AoE cap will do nothing to fix the flaws of GW2 WvW. There are a ton of other things to look at – the way siege works, the way points are scored, the design of the maps, overall class balance issues, commander system, involving guilds, bugs&glitches, bringing back the orbs that they promised to fix (just yesterday noticed that Anet has removed the stairs instead, wtf), etc. And yes, discouraging zergs is also in there somewhere but its not going to be solved with something that’s never going to happen.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Consume Ectoplasm
Cooldown 60 seconds
Gives Mesmer all Boons for 10 seconds
Used with Lyssa that would be 15 seconds of all boons + duration, lets say 50%. That’s 22 seconds of all boons with a 38s downtime.
Seems a little OP, dont you think?
Besides, its a boring elite. A new Phantasm elite is IMO the only way to go.
After the patch that nerfed #4 to oblivion, it is rather pointless yes. When it gave protection it was bloody brilliant. Meant that builds other than PU had a chance to pre-emptivly counter things like thief backstab by using an active damage reduction skill that’s not completely random.
But no, it was nerfed because Anet clearly thought that PU was weak as hell (since its been buffed) and needed to be used more as stealth is far better than actual counter-play.
Another thing I don’t understand is why the meteor skill for the ele is only limited to what, 5 players now? It’s so stupid – it sort of defeats the purpose of a ‘meteor’, because when I think of a meteor, I think mass havoc, not a small sprinkling of fire on a select few. I have adapted with the changes, but ‘meteor’ really should live up to its name.
This I can agree with too. Just imagine how simple scoring would be.
Reset night. You stand with your guild on the blue border, all hyped and ready to go. You enter the zone the instant the points count down and rush to stack up at spawn and then…
A blinding light.
Sudden intense heat.
As you look into the sky you see massive pieces of citadel seemingly stuck in the air.
Then a wall of fire obliterate your spawn and you’re forcibly logged out from the game.
Blue team won the reset and the borderland is unusable for the rest of the week.
As you go onto the forum to wonder how this happened you come across a thread named “WTF my cat walked on my keyboard and it accidentally called a meteor onto our own citadel”
The current zerg meta is already all AoE. Warrior hammer leaping for AoE stun while flailing their AoE attacks, Guardians running around with shotgun staff and Necros dropping a gazillion marks on the ground.
Why on earth does anyone in their right mind want to make AoE blobbing 100x more powerfull?!
Because that’s what removing the AoE cap will bring. Instead of having ranged AoE units make up maybe 1/3rd of the meta group, they will be 2/3rd+ and people will be insta-gibbed by massive berserker Necro blobs. No point in going after tanky or balanced builds/professions – just blob up into the largest ranged force you can muster and massivly overdps entire areas that the enemy cant walk through since the AoE limit no longer allow melee to stack and go through it.
It wouldnt be skirmishes and battles anymore, it’ll be AoE slaughter based on who drops the biggest nukes.

Escape from Lion's Arch - Trailer discussion

It would be fun if LA is turned into a new “endgame” zone. An entire besieged zone just dedicated to group raids, with really difficult bosses/mobs/events scattered throughout the map. Similar to queens gauntlet, except its LA.
But tbh I think its yet again temporary content, at the end we drive them away and LA is hurt but not disabled. Boring though. If they dont make it a permanent endgame zone, they might as well just make it a big hole in the ground.
You find it hard to see a Viking being an Engineer?! Errrr… How do you think longboats where made, by rats running around chewing trees and gluing them together? :p
There’s plenty of things in the Norn society that require “engineering”. Maybe not in our modern sense of the word, but more in the building and designing sense. Have you seen the houses in Hoelbrak? They arent exactly simple. Hell you’d probably need an high engineer degree today to even attempt building something like that, alot of math, calculations and/or experience is required or the houses would collapse. Its not hard to imagine a Norn craftsman deciding to start making more elaborate stuff for warfare, thus turning into an “engineer”.
Lets not forget the simple fact that a young Norn could easily have looked at the Charr and been impressed, thinking “OMG I WANT TO BUILD TANKS TOO!”.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
I was thinking about making a guardian, but his Hit points really scares me. For a tank 19k Hp isn’t ideal I’d assume? Which builds you’d recommend?
Hitpoints is not an issue for guardians due to tons and tons of healing. Hell, everything you do heals you. Just today I was running around with my guardian with hobbled together gear (pvt, healing, berserker, I cant remember since the last time I played it was some 6 months ago) and its pretty impossible to die unless completely swamped. I only have 17K and is far, far more tankier than my Mesmer when bunkerspecced for ~25K HP. The Mesmer is my main and I play it every single day in raids. Lets not even begin to mention the simplistic yet extremely powerfull zerg/bunker weapons, compared to the crap that other professions have (I’m looking at you, shotgun staff).
That’s how bloody easy it is to play a noob Guardian, lol. Dont worry about the hitpoints.
Tbh I am also one of those that think all 25% speed buffs should be removed while all characters also move at 25% normally. Its a major QoL improvement for all classes and a major nerf for swiftness, yes… But swiftness really has little place in the game to begin with. The very idea that groups of players can stack perma-swiftness and zoom across WvW zones is kittened to say the least. Its been taken granted to the point that WvW is unplayable without either 25% or 33%.
I play a Mesmer and after having traveller runes since they made them 25%… Its just unplayable to use anything else. It doesnt work. I cant be without them. Its like running in constant combat when I use any other rune. It’ll drive anyone insane. People that say “its ok, I can play without any type of speed runes!” are just torturing themselves.
For those not comprehending race change in the traditional sense, there is another way too:
Character item transfer
Just one simple restriction:
- Both characters are the same class
You select Character A (original) and Character B (your “race change” character). Everything on Character B is deleted – bags, items, trinkets, the works. Every item on Character A is transfered to Character B as an exact duplicate (complete with souldbound), exception being race specific gear which is left in the inventory, accountbound/soulbound on use. Character A is deleted after the transaction and Character B get renamed to what Character A had.
Basicly, you’re transmuting your character.
And there you have it. Another incredibly simple solution to changing your race. It doesnt even affect the story – Character B has his own story which may or may not be completed.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
facepalm
double facepalm
I’m going to keep this short as I have said it many times before: There are no issues with race changing. No issues with the personal story, no issues with cultural gear, no issues whatsoever.
Race change would only be allowed to characters with the following restrictions:
- They are 80.
- They have completed the personal story. Simplest solution to the story info screen is that race changing removes the race specific arcs.
- Any race specific gear is stripped from your character and account bound/soulbound on use (still race specific). You made a choice to race change, you take the loss.
There you go. Race change. Anet are just being lazy and people in this thread are unimaginative. Issues with the story, lol… How many that want to race change have even visited the story page in the last year?
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Looks fake to me, or someone over at Anet got an early lobotomy.
Incredibly non-descriptive texts with no info on cooldowns or internal cooldowns. Some of them would obviously be incredibly OP if its just as-is. Like the Elementalist one – perma quickness, weee!!!
Secondly, most of them are just copies of existing skills.
Thief knockback trap? Hahaha… That’d be an engineer sheild or several other skills that have the same effect (fear, guardian knockback, etc). What’s going to be the cooldown of thief “elite”, 30 seconds? Or will it launch people clear across the map?
The Mesmer elite would just be Rampage in a shiny phantasm skin. Nothing more, nothing less. Warriors already got that elite, why on earth do we want a second rate version of it?
The Warrior elite sound awesome. It would be rather unique to actually give your opponent a boon. Lure a Warrior into casting it on you, cleanse the conditions then go nuts with the quickness he gave you, lol… Or simply back away and dont do anything, he just wasted an elite. Mesmers can have fun if they got boon sharing.
Everyone already want the clone generation on the scepter gone because it sucks. Not all builds are based on clone generation and having them pop up in an auto-attack chain is bad weapon design.
Not sure why on earth you’d want it on melee weapon auto-attack chain. It would be just as bad. What’s the other 2 skills of the dagger supposed to do (assuming main hand)? Squirt butterflies around the mesmer? No, that is where your clone generator should be. Such as skill 2 popping a clone while dodging around the target at the same time (ranger style) while 3 toss the dagger and create a backstabbing phantasm (downed mesmer style).
It’s the best thing about staff . You can get into places that you shouldn’t. Also it’s a free leap away from people on a crazy short cool down.
Alternativly its a quick death when you leap right into a zerg because of targetting fail.
TBH I never had that much issues with the staff. I use staff in all my builds and it can go a week between ending up in a wall or something.
a mesmer cant spam stealth. their longest stealth is mass invisibility and thats an elite. i got more respect for mesmers than these d/p thieves.
Your definition of “spam” may vary.
A Mesmer still got ~30s of stealth every minute if he trait it.
Considering a fight is often over quicker than that, then yes I would call it spamming.
SoloQ = most players running semi-bunker builds due to kills not winning matches. Standing on points does.
Of course a damage oriented shatter Mesmer is going to kill people.
Secondly, RNG is RNG. Like 5 matches in a row where we lolled at the opposition. We just slaughtered them. Then the next round you wonder wtf happened because you lost 50/500. Then the next round you meet the same bloody tournament team and go 500/495. Then its off to horribly loose 5 more times in a row while getting 0 kills.
What i don’t get, every other MMO has a PENALTY for being in stealth one that normally reduces movement speed, why is it in this game being in Stealth and taking a trait INCREASES your movement speed….
Not only movement speed, health and initiative regeneration, condition removal, is a free-reset for you. And you can spam it, and you are invisible, not in stealth, you are invisible.
In stealth you shouldn’t can heal, be healed or gain more initiative.
Cant forget Mesmers getting boons every second in stealth too.
The character preview screen has generic lighting.
Each zone has different lighting settings.
The result is colors vary slightly from zone to zone.
Tbh I dont think that is nearly as bad as poor color mixing across different sets of armor. Profane armor for example often has completely different colors than what you choose and what is applied on other armor pieces. Black? Ha! Its brown. kittening brown.
Traveller > all.
I tried to run with guardian runes the other day (to see if one could have fun with a block based fire build) but without the speed… It was completely unplayable.
Being the frontlines depend more on your guild group than anything else. You can be near berserker if the group (and you) are really, really good. When I’ve done organized raids with a really good commander/group I’ve been able to run on the commander in the middle of 30v30 battles without even getting below 90% HP.
The “easiest” frontliner build IMO is 0/20/20/30/0. Its a hybrid. Access to DE, mantra healing and can put some traits into both manipulation and glamour if you want. PvT goes well with it.
Its not the most fun though. 20/30/20/0/0 is a much more fun damage oriented variant but offer very little support things (aside from shatter boonremoval). You need the equipment to back this one up. I like it because I can trait full ranged twohanders. You basicly swap the last 10 points around to either get a 3 use mantra build or direct damage PU.
A variant I have yet to try in zergs is the 30/20/0/20/0 mantra fury. Tons of heals, stability and condition removals. I’m very used to mantras, but even I havent dared venture into this extreme, lol.
They bug, which is why its fairly hard and random to accomplish, lol.
Spear 5 while pumping out all the illusions you can, spear 2 (preferably with the enemy against a wall) and mind wrack the illusions. The enemy player will either be dead or dying. If you want more, dodge for clones, swap to trident, 3+2 and pop em again with the confusion (which also does direct damage).
Since so many skills are pointless underwater its quite possible he also used clone generators like decoy and mirror.
Funny thing, I think its a weird bandaid fix to the icon bugs, its got nothing to do with PvE loitering commanders. IE when you have commander enabled (minimap icon) but no boon icon. Or when you have the boon icon yet no commander icon on the minimap/above you.
This “solves” the issue and make it impossible to miss if you got the minimap commander icon on or not.
How is this thread still going?
How is stealth not fixed yet?!
Of course its going to go around in circles. Because everyone is always playing the blaim game. Its laughable that one of the arguments to counter stealth berserkers is bring more toughness. The same people will probably argue that reducing stealth for the thief will make him defenseless and killed in 2 hits. Yeah, probably. You know the solution to that? Bring more toughness.
And round in circles we go.
Nothing people argue will change the fact that the mechanics of stealth is flawed. The penalties for abusing is it too low and other professions have no counter. No, toughness is not enough. The thief only bring more damage. Stealth traps is kittened, you cant use those in the middle of bloody combat. The ranger got one skill for it… Which is worthless.
IMO the solution remain really simple: Make stealth a new type of boon that is always on a fixed duration (not affected by + duration) and has a after-attack secondary state fixed condition (ie reveal, not affected by +/- duration). You cannot apply the boon when having the condition. The boon can be removed forcibly and the condition can be cleansed.
Problem solved, stealth is now integrated into boon and condition mechanics instead of being its own “thing”. Boon removers can bring thieves/mesmers/zerg veilers out of stealth while condition appliers can have attacks that prevent thieves/mesmers/zerg veilers from going into stealth.
Think about it.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
I have absolutely no idea what you want help with. Do you know how to use a staff? Great! Just great. What build you use it with is irrelevant – both power and condition works fine.
Unless they fix groups being able to easily join EoTM or being able to choose between overflows at will (so a guild can just say “Overflow 23 tonight!”), its never going to replace WvW proper.
That said, I definetly see a population problem coming up…
I do believe Mesmer is more popular than engi, necro and ranger.
Overall? Not really. Well maybe engies. Rangers are still popular among the randoms in WvW and in general PvE, necros are definetly more common in WvW.
The things is, people that cannot endure the class quirks will move to another. Personally I’m thinking of abandoning my Mesmer every bloody night because of poor weapon choices in guild groups. Pick the sword, I cant really go effective damage (not in an elite guild, major differences in what you can do aggresivly), pick the gs, I suffer horrid targeting issues and pretty random performance (I think everyone knows what I’m talking about when you consider the Guardian staff :/ ).
What, people expect me to run around with my beer mug focus on full glamours, kindly dropping things on our glorious leaders request while completely gimping myself? “Veilbot drop here”, “Pullbot pull that”. Blind this, blind that, timewarp, nullfield, feedback, reflect everything, blargh! Even when we run with nearly 40 peeps on commander its often only 1-2 Mesmers (me included) and there’s only so much you can trait. Sometimes I even laugh a little inside at commanders seemingly expecting every mesmer to have portal ready in the middle of combat (just… what… ugh…).
It’s a tiring profession. Which is I’ve recently gone PU backline skirmisher alot even in guild groups. Yes, yes, I’m a horrible person and a bad Mesmer.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
The achievement requirements for the armor is about as reasonable as WvW achievements.
Since Anet hasnt seen an issue with that in 1.5 years – based on their inability to change it – there clearly is no issue here.
Imagine if the pointless skritt and centaurs was removed and replaced with… real guild keeps.
There I said it. Something that actually could relate to Guild Wars.
In both locations, there would be a claimable keep that guilds get influence points for maintaining (just like PPT, except for your guild). The keep would be upgradeable in many stages (including even heavier reinforced walls/doors than normal), with the option to have crafters, stores, mystic forge, trait reset, etc. You would also be able to open and close the portals (all friendly or guild only), if you find the need to RP in there lol. Contrary to normal keeps being defended by 1 champion and veteran guards, these would be also be upgradeable – champion guards and multiple keep lords – maybe even NPCs heros defending the fully upgraded keep. Imagine having Rytlock stand guard in your guild keep
Such potential WvW has… Totally wasted.
There are no queues due to EoTM (didnt have a single thing in EB at primetime yesterday), so alas I cannot compete
Ha, last time I tried to kill her we where two people. She killed the other guy in 2 second and me around 3 seconds later. But it was a small victory to bring her down to maybe 99.5% HP.
Indeed, its not bugged.
Its working exactly like it always has been.
You are placed in a random grouping (x number of players), which enter WvW at random. Lets say that you are in queue group 1, consisting of 30 players. You have random position 5 in WvW. The queue group get pop, 20 random people got in but unfortunetly you had zero luck and was left out. As queue group 1 is recreated you end up in it again, now with random position 12. You’re still “first” out of all the queue groups, its just random whether you enter or not.
What, its still the only way I can explain the GW2 queue system. The interesting this is that this system must require alot more thought, code, math and calculations than a straight FIFO list.
