Account bound commander tag.

It probably wont even take one day to implement. Half of the change is to make it so that when you buy the tag, its available on all characters. The other half of the change is to go into the player database, check for commander on any given character, count it (if player has commander on more than 1 character), replicate to all characters and refund additional commander tags via ingame mail saying “Hey, commander tag is now account bound! But you had 3 characters with commander, here’s 200g back”. Anet has done similar things in the past (such as for dyes) so its easily doable in a very quick manner. If they wanted an even simpler database script, they’d just refund commander tags period and let us buy the new account bound tag again.

Of course I want improved commander functions just as much as the next guy… but this change would be taking a step forward and is by far the easiest thing they could do now. They could add it in the next patch if they really wanted. Its that easy.

I posted the same suggestion a while back, along with EB being tuned up to have the transitioning terrains toward respective border and implementing the new weather system (ie snowstorm on ice border, sandstorm o desert border and fog on jungle border).

It would give each border a more unique appearance, while keeping the terrain across them.

Highly unlikely to ever happen though. Anet will either surprise us with something that no one want (which may be good) or nothing at all, thats how WvW patches work.

If there was something we could do we would but that one keep… its just not possible. Another legendary that will never ever be built. The world is such a cruel place.

Being the second overall best class in game, The Guardian strikes a decent enough balance between what its good at and what its poor at, with as far as I know no major skill bugs or annoyances. Twohanded weapons are some of the best in game and onehanders seem to fit nicely into builds. Their only real weakness, low health, is easily countered by lots and lots of healing.

And now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll return to my main which is a broken down nerfed to the ground Mesmer. kitten you lucky Guardians.

If you are happy with how the game works as is (and your computer in general and other games), suffer no real problems… dont upgrade your drivers. Its always been a case of win some loose some. The newer the card (and more high end), the more likely it is to be an improvement overall.

But its nice to know that a new version is available.

Hope the devs read this, as I don’t think this approach has been discussed before (but I could be wrong).

Oh it was only discussed first 2 years ago, then a couple more times over the years. I posted a concept mockup a year ago (complete with squad name) in one of the many popular commander threads. Here is my latest iteration (previous had a slightly confusing slider for color). And no, the devs dont read this. That much has always been obvious. Despite polling us asking if we wanted simple or them to take longer to implement many changes (we wanted simple), they’ve done nothing. Even the most basic changes that was orginally requested – private commander only visible to guild so you dont have to tag target them – fall completely on deaf ears. Just any single thing of this (change name and show it on minimap OR change color OR change shape OR turn it private) would have made people so much happier, but nope. They give us a monkey king costume instead. Everybody is happy. I guess?

Sidenote: And they havent even made it account bound. Legendaries, ascended, color dyes, skins, WvW skills, everything has been made account bound… Except the commander tag. Now do you see where I’m going? Hoping for them to change it is long past.

“Buy some gems and transfer to server which has good WvW reputation”. Are you serious? Money doesn’t fall from the sky, specially if you live in poor EU country like I do. Not everyone lives in America ffs!!! I can’t afford transfer.

You can buy gems with in-game gold…

Do you think I will grind every day till I reach 220 gold to pay for transfer? Not going to happen. I am not insane.

If you need world completion in order to build that 2000+ gold legendary (being the only thing that require world completion, you get two of the gifts) then 220 gold is nothing.

Also, if nobody is on the borders just go up at oh around 03:00 in the morning, build a golem and take it with a class that can use stealth to bypass guards.

I think they should just implement a reincarnation system like Disgaea.

I mean would it be fun for say an Asuran Engineer to raise a Charr Warrior “pet” from cub to adult and then when the Engineer “die” (probably because they where sleeping next to each other and the Charr rolled over the Asura in his sleep and suffocated him), the Warrior take over everything except racial gear which become account bound/bind on equip. Regular exotic gear just become bind on equip.

Voila, now your Asuran Engineer is a Charr Warrior. And he even got the same story as he remembers everything his parent told him of his adventures.

Nope, the issues with ESO are not with the RvR itself, noting that problems like class balance and engine performance are issues external to the actual design. The RvR design in ESO is way ahead of WvW.

Then why arent we all abandoning GW2 for ESO?

The design is more advanced, yes. Pretty features. But its not better. Due to the “epic” size of Cyrodiil and mediocre ways to focus combat, its boring as hell for smallscale. Imagine if the GW2 devs just made borderlands 20x bigger and slapped 20 more keeps in there. It wouldnt make WvW better. It would just make it an empty shell. The largest battles I have seen in ESO in the middle of primetime is still just one keep and its boring, boring and more boring to die and have to travel 10 minutes to get back. I want an action filled combat rpg, not a bloody horse riding simulator.

Planetside 2 is in the scope as ESO (well, its even bigger) and at least they got the action right.

When they reduce the awkward scale (everything look at least twice as big as it should be), remove half the pointless keeps, allow havoc squads instead of forcing 20+ to cap a lousy camp, implement even the most rudimentary command structure, remove the revival cost and fix spawn tents… Maybe then it could be something.

The only thing I have to hand it is that the PvE (dungeons, quest hubs, towns, bandit camps etc) in the PvP zone is great. Oh the irony.

Server instanced cities would also solve some current Guild and WvW recruiting issues so they would not just be an improvement for better RPing. My thoughts as to why Anet does not want to do this still make me think MegaServer has some yet un-revealed reasons FAR beyond filling up maps.

Of course it has. Its cheaper to run. 20 servers running at 25% capacity each or 5 servers running at 100% capacity, what do you think is cheaper? Aint more complicated than that. Megaservers free up unused resources, plain and simple.

This isnt exactly bad, but obviously Anet has a motive for not adding server specific cities back in, for example.

I mean, server instanced cities seems like a perfectly good compromise for most people. I dont even see how Anet can argue against that or fail to see the logic.

Open world problems is a little trickier, sure… but again, a good compromise is to at least note which server a player is from – chat color maybe, server tag, something.
The placement system can surely be improved but since it took them like a year or something to fix simple wvw queues (or was it longer) I wouldnt hold my breath.

If they do eventually do this (and they might) it would be great if the tags included a guild emblem, or even, maybe.. were the guild emblem. This would solve the need for colours etc. and maybe even help with recruiting.

That would be great, but I dont think the resolution is high enough to make the guild emblems. You could have a dolly icon though, heh. A simpler solution IMO is the ability to name your commander tag (show on map, not minimap).

That way you can write short notes like “[LOL] Open raid” or [HAHA] Guild raid" or “Havoc”. You could have 5 commanders on the map and instantly see who’s who. Even if they are all the same colors and icons.

Some posters have indicated that GW2 has an aoe cap of 5. Player boon buffs of 5. It would be nice to have those increased to 8. But i fear GW2 may not be ready

It is highly likely that going to 8 would require some heavy UI rework and would also introduce more lag.

Lulwat? As I said before 8 is already the group cap in GW2 for minimized group UI (its a setting in the options menu, you only see the name and healthbar). The only thing is that WvW/PvE limits groups to 5 with full UI as default (you can turn on minimal UI but have the same 5 peep limit).

So it would definetly not require some “heavy UI rework” as its already implemented. Its real simple – when a 6th member join, swap to minimal UI. If group goes below 6 members again, go back to full UI.

Now, if we’re talking 8 man buffs… Then its a whole other thing. Tbh, I think they should make it 10 man groups instead – just double up the normal PvE size. It can still be 5 man buffs, the only difference now is that you want 2 buffers in the group for spreading boons and such. Some skills are already 10 man AoE (mass invisibility for example), wouldnt hurt to make a couple more per class that. I doubt it will bring any lag. What’s the difference between 2 5 man groups running on top of each other or 1 10 man group? None as far as I can tell. In fact, its one less group for the game to keep track of.

Irony being that 8 is already the player group count for sPvP in GW2 :/

Its alread bad enough with all the people that recently call instant NPCs on top of

Ignoring the facts mounts will never ever happen because it is in fact impossible (see previous post by me), this little “issue” of people always staying on their impossible mounts would be fairly easily solved by not allowing said impossible mounts in citys (or towns, or generic trading areas).

I mean its not like you’re driving your Ford pickup truck inside a crowded mall to when you’re shopping? Or take an 18 wheeler into a bank cause you want to deposit some cash without having to get out. Just like you park your car in a parking lot/garage, you leave the mountable poop machines outside.

Well race changing is mechanically the same as the heart where your character turn into a Sylvari in the Sylvari starter area.

But according to everyone and their grandma on this forum race changing is impossible and will never happen.

is it possible to take on the entire upgraded camp solo without luring thinning down etc?

I honestly cant imagine any build facetanking it head on. “Regular” players will still find it dangerous with 2-3 peeps because the AI has a nasty tendancy to focus everything on the one with highest toughness instead of spreading out damage. You really want to thin their numbers first.

But of course, you can always try and find out.

And how long does it take 1 thief to enter a tower or keep, assuming he didnt cheat? It really doesnt matter if its a keep or tower. The door and walls serve the purpose of stopping easy captures, major keeps double them. You could remove guards alltogether if you wanted too, it will neither break or make wvw (only make it somewhat more boring).

That thief will also die in a second if there is 1 player there in addition to the 5ish guards. Or an arrowcart, of course.

Your argument is ultimately flawed since a thief can solo dungeon champion bosses. NPCs are a distraction and used poorly as a content blocker because its “not normal”.

Not sure why you dont think a full group capping a tower is perfectly normal. Do you really want more zerging that bad? If you want to up difficulty… making it impossible for havoc groups to cap keeps isnt the way. Outside primetime many servers barely even muster a 5 man group on borders.

Making keeps impossible to flip would only strengthen whoever did the nightshift the longest with the best coverage. Its already hard enough to crack open a t3 keep with just 5 peeps if its defended by even just a few.

Looking at the only current comparable competition afaik, Elder Scrolls Online, GW2 is already better (IMO ESO went so big it totally ruin smallscale. Hell it went so big even the visuals seem to dwarf a character with their wrong scaling). Some lessons can be learned though:

- Capping secondary resources (ie camps) linked to the major keeps prevents spawning there. Seems like a better way to handle it than the knock on door swords, but would require many more secondary objects. ESO has 3 around all keeps.

- Limit to the amount of siege that can be placed at a keep.

- Less AoE skills on the whole (which would obviously include siege).

- Multiple starting points to avoid spawn camping.

- An achievement goal for the campaign. In ESO its cap all central keeps to gain access to the imperial city, DAoC had something similar if I am not mistaken. GW2 had the obsidian sanctum stonemist link but they removed that. The more points you get from SM seems weak. Tiers are decent incentive to be competetive, but doesnt give my server a direct reward for something done that evening (or any reward at all for that matter). Gw2 isnt bad here, just meh.

And… well, thats about it. I will not disagree with the need for bigger maps, but current size is not so bad. EoTM show how it can be done better to make it look bigger than it really is. Nor will I say anything about the AoE cap, because I wish to have the 1000x more detailed characters compared to DAoC and still have playable, intense dodge action combat. ESO combat pretty much prove that yes, too grand scale kitten up fluid movements.

Is this the preferred way to capture supply camps as Thief?

  • equip sword/pistol
  • corner pull the guards into tight group
  • stand still and auto-attack with sword
  • use Black Powder and Smoke Screen to apply constant blindness

Can you take fully upgraded camps like this or do you have to move/stealth/heal at some point?

That probably depends on how quick you are at killing. Cabalists got the ranged pull/attack, which would pretty much kill you in this situation. Especially if the scouts are still blinding you from every direction. But if you already got half of them down…

If they didnt have lower numbers, they wouldnt be rank 4-27 now, would they? PPT is 80% about population and coverage. WvW is not so packed there is population competition across all tiers.

Just choose one of the top 3 if you want population, its the same darn thing no matter the server. Unless you got a raid guild following you there, one person more wont make it any more or less populated than it currently is.

Why is there such secrecy involved in WvW development? Aside from update in the map designs and constant PPT issues, most things are about improving, balancing and fixing existing stuff. Every other part of the game seems to be well announced before.

Its just to face it, Anet is baiting us to keep playing WvW in silence. I mean what they say they wanted to do with WvW 1 year ago might still happen, right?!

In the meantime, they can make a useless monkey king costume with new jump/dodge animations in the Living Story updates but cannot tone down arrowcart damage by 20% or increase the cooldown a couple of secs (and thats just the really really really easy/simple way to tweak it).

The answer is so blatantly obvious. No one is even looking at WvW.

Remove the clone mechanic from iLeap. Its the only kitten thing that’s ever going to work.

Redesign it to work exactly like Shadow Shot. Press the button, poop out a clone at your starting location, appear in a flash of butterflies at your target and immobilize.

Why on earth it would “need” a counter is a mystery. A Thief has instant skills with no cooldowns and no counters. Oh the horrors that a Mesmer would actually have a working skill on one of his weapons (the melee weapon on a light armor class no less).

Anet dont do boats. Claw Island is the only real moment you see a true dynamic boat in GW2 and unless they fixed it recently, it still look hilarious sitting many meters too low in the water (end mission cinematic, not the static boneship)

The CDI polling thread a few months ago for “which profession is most in need of help?” – Rangers topped the thread by a huge margin. Mesmers weren’t even in the top 3.

… Which may have something to do with the fact there are probably 10x rangers over mesmers just because of unicorn bow.

Mesmer problems have existed since launch. The only reason a Ranger is slightly worse off is because he cannot blow up his worthless pet.

Lulwat? The guardian scepter auto-attack orbs can do insane damage compared to the kittenty scepter a mesmer gets.

Agreed. The loading screens should contain a small google map window to the nearest hardware store that sells SSDs. That’ll give you something to do while it loads.

Then after years of nothing they secretely removed the orb platform, hiding any evidence it was ever there.

They could have just made it into an escort orb dolly on a slightly randomized path event instead of letting a player carry it. Sometimes an easy problem has an easy solution.

Oh no! If they shutdown the forums where would we go to communicate with the dev’s about all the upcoming changes to WvW? Oh wait…

It is so cute when people seems to imply that they never listen to feedback.

Every single change made to WvW after release was based on feedback and stuff demanded on these forums.

A progression system in WvW – WXP ranks added.
A new map – EOTM added.
A way to play WvW while maps are queued – EOTM added.
A way to join EB JP without queuing for EB – Make OS a separate map joinable from everywhere.
Able to see queue-size – Add said information to the interface.
A place for GvG – Remove stat-bonuses from OS.

How is this not listening to feedback?

And the last of these changes was what, 6 months ago?

They have added many things yes, but they have also failed to live up to promises. Commander and orbs being the two most obvious things.

How long did it take to make EoTM (which no one really demanded btw, we just wanted a fix for broken queues) compared to the time it would take to add a “guild visible only” tickbox in the create squad menu?

World PvP server social experiment

This week, lol? All those changes sounds like a 12 month project.

How about starting with something simpler… When a zone (any zone) goes to nighttime, PvP is turned to FFA (event countdown). Come morning, it ends and is PvE like normal. Only guild members would be tagged as friendlies.

I have been using travelers for a long time, getting bored with them wondering if the loss of speed Is worth the stats gained.

Well that’s for you to decide.

Last weekend I tried a condition build/torment set (well, budget torment set since the runes are more expensive than travelers) and the loss of run speed was… painful. Seriously, I havent felt so crippled and bored since before speed runes was broken and travelers didnt exist. Roaming was out of the question, it took aaaaaaaaageeeees to get anywhere.
In the end I swapped back to my traveler set and ran around with hybrid condition gear, lol.

Basicly for me, not having traveler make the Mesmer unplayable. Speed runes offer mediocre set bonuses, but of course that would work as well.

If you run with mantra heal, centaur runes are decent. But it gets repetetive to always have to pop your heal even when you dont want to. If you manage to fail a rotation in combat or the enemy boon strip you on mantra cooldown, it will feel as if you where just immobilized. Mantra is also a poor roaming heal as its too easy to interrupt the channeling, especially in 1vX combat. Its too bad there are no condition aimed centaur set. Might end up using that (or speed) on my rabid gear anyway, at least the condition build synergize slightly better with mantras than my normal power PU build (which doesnt have purity).

Obviously the WvW forums require special censoring to keep people in line. We already lost the matchup forums, wouldnt surprise me if they decide to remove the WvW forums alltogether.
