This thread made my new level 80 necro a sad panda
I’m the kinda guy that enjoys WvW, PvP, PvE, and all aspects of the game but being say a power necro in Silverwastes seemed extremely hard. Wonder what one should reroll as :P

Extremely hard? Eh? Power necros are great in open PvE just drop a well or two and go full dagger berserk on the mobs, killing 5 at the same time. If they hit you, heal and go ds until you can heal again. Silverwastes is easy. In sPvP I am frequently getting top player with only some 10 hours experience. And WvW is decent too, zerging is fantastic compared to my Mesmer though I havent yet mastered roaming (1.5 years vs 3 weeks is a little different for knowing a class lol).

High level instances I can agree that necro doesnt bring much. Dont even play that though.

Yeah, a whole zerg with white armor against a whole team with Exotic/ascended armor and food, who, because of their gear, have 75% more armor and stats(from gear) than the other team does. I’d like to see that and watch the white team prove that superior tactics will help them win. Should be hilarious.

Stats matter in WvW. So, yeah, you said it yourself. Try again.

Yeah so you have to play the game for a week to get enough gold to buy an exotic set. Big woop. Stats matter but its not pay to win because there is no cash shop limitation or huge amount of gold between geared players.

You want to see pay to win even in what many consider a “free” game? Look at Archeage. Imagine if you had two ascended geared players going at each other in sPvP (yes, competetive arena)… except one of them has consumables running at 100g/hour, insta heal pots for 10K hp every 9s, pots doubling every stat and on top of that has a legendary weapon that can instakill people with its special skill. And of course its a player driven economy, ie throw all decency out the window and sell stuff bought in the cashshop for tons and tons of gold, driving the gear race even further into the abyss.

GW2 is a freaking joy in comparison

A person with 80 inventory slots can fill all that up in about 10 minutes of killing things. (probably has 20 or so slots taken already by gear and items)

A veteran player who already had 160 inventory slots (and got them cheaper back in the day) can fill all of that up in about 20 minutes. (probably has a lot filled with gear and other items)

Lets say it takes 5 minutes to go to the vendor and sell everything and travel back. And lets say you get 50 silver from selling all of that. One cycle of the player with 80 slots is 15 minutes. One cycle of the player with 160 slots is 25 minutes.

15 minutes for 50 silver. 25 minutes for 1 gold.

After an hour. New player with 80 slots has 2 gold. Veteran player has 2 gold from 2 runs, and already halfway through another run with 50 more silver.

That’s 2 gold to 2.5 gold. Veteran player gets 25% more gold per hour than the new player (or new player has 20% less, however you look at it).

Since this while game is all about looking cooler than everyone else, and looking cooler than everyone else requires the most expensive skins…veteran Player wins, and the newer player can have the same advantage by either grinding for hundreds of hours, or just buying his way in.

Therefore…Pay to win, or I guess technically its pay to equality.

Except that you dont win. Its pay for looks and pay for conveniance.

Anyone in a stock ugly looking mismatched stock exotic set can still own your 4000 gold worth of skinned veteran ascended player in PvE, WvW and especially PvP. Even if you look at the worst case scenario which is food, it barely even cost anything, skill and build is more important in any given scenario.

If you call the above pay to win you have no idea what pay to win even means.

Also, you must only have a single set for a single character, to not need space.

Unfortunetly I have double sets for my 8 characters (condi/power mostly), each with 18-20 bag slots and in addition to a couple of bought expansion slots in the bank (plus 500 stack of course) I also have a personal guild storage. My bank is currently shock full with 6 slots available, been a little lazy moving things over to the guild bank. I have almost 2 rows of various boosters, lol. Should use them sometime :/

Point is, yes you are supposed to pay for it to some degree. That’s how Anet get money. That’s how the gemstore work. Its not required, but its a quality of life thing. If you dont like it, then dont buy it. Throw the things away. I could toss out half the things in my bank if I wanted to (wtf am I going to do with two dozen level 0-20 scrolls?!?!). But I’m a bit of a hoarder. By many peoples standard, I’m still probably modest.

How the heck many inventory slots do you need?!

You can make your own guild and store things in the guild bank for just a few gold (buy the influence). And use your other characters as banks too of course.

If you really really need more than that… well Anet made it a hefty cost for a reason. You are that reason.

Every single world event have 10x the people – or more. Even low level zones have people everywhere for no apparent reasons. 2/12/2015 WvW report on Unbalanced Match-ups

in WvW

Posted by: Dawdler.8521

Dawdler.8521

Megamap, heh.

IMO they should just simplify the WvW maps:

- Keep EB mostly as is (a visual tune up wouldnt hurt) but move traders/crafters from borders there. EoTM supplies are given to EB rather than borders.
- Keep one border, which should be the border for the server that is currently ranked highest out of the 3. This is the server “defending” after all. Again, a visual tune up wouldnt hurt.
- Make the new WvW map into a dynamicly expanding map. Lets say 0-3 open, each much reach 80% population before another one open. If population remain under a very low percentage, it will close down and people shuffled previous map. In this map, holding objectives (as in actually standing on them) gets server WvW points, not just taking keeps and abandoning them. Basicly, they function like the bloodlust caps.

And there you have it. No wall of text :p

Well if you done condi… go power. I wouldnt recommend full knights, but parts of the armor sure (especially for WvW). You want ferocity to actually use the precision, so got to throw in zerker or similar. I am currently using 6/2/0/0/6 in sPvP, WvW and PvE lol. The skills differ a bit but that’s about it. Staff/dagger/focus, but if you’re zerging WvW or something then scepter/warhorn or axe/warhorn is of course another option.

The wvw maps are simply too small for these kinds of vehicles. Its not going to work. If they where 100-200% larger perhaps… but thats not going to happen in GW2. I have high hopes that GW3 will make WvW bigger, better and introduce vehicles (charr tanks, airships and ships, everything we see in GW2 PvE). But thats about as far as I go. And its no doubt years away.

As Dawdler said, there is a way through expensive mice or keyboards but using this method can be considered “cheating” so I do not advise it.
In the meanwhile I’ll bring this and another similar thread to the developers attention.

You dont need an expensive mice. The mouse isnt used at all when “fixing” this problem. The keyboard is enough and you can use any kind of crap keyboard.

Of course they could have added a use all option in the game… but its been years. Think its going to happen now? Hahaha… Its not even that bad now. When the luck system was changed, ectos where much cheaper, salvage almost paid for itself and we had thousands upon thousands in the inventory that needed clicking. People didnt get 200%+ magic find within weeks by “playing the game”.

“IF” shattering illusions continue to chase stealthed opponents, would you guys consider it as balanced or unbalanced?

Perfectly balanced, since all other channeled attack skills can “see” through stealth.

Whether that is kittened or not is another question.

Also the only hard counter to a thief is another thief. The reason classes can survive a thief onslaught is defensive traits (retal, sheilds, etc), condition damage (burning on hit, etc) or being aimed toward 1v1 evasion while still doing damage (like the Mesmer).

A couple of weeks ago I came back to my Mesmer main (1 year break, 1 year almost exclusivly played or so) and it seems like buisness as usual. Clones are still kittened, targeting goes all over the place and illusionary leap is more broken than ever (I havent gotten the immobilize to work even once with the new ranged spawn mechanic).

The Mesmer isnt particularly crippled compared to other professions, its still a good class on its own. The problem for me has always been that when you try to have a helpfull metabuild for WvW (any crap build can PvE) it becomes sooooooooo booooooooooring. You literally have to take everything boring and weak with the Mesmer. You cant be anything other than a utility bot that barely get any tags. Anet thought it wasnt bad enough and nerfed most things to the ground.

Oh man i never post often on the forums, but in this topic more than in the last few months

If you feel mesmer is just a bot, it’s maybe a l2p issue. No offense!
But the reason most people play mesmer is, you can make so many builds work, you must only play them right. And this takes his time. I feel mesmer is balanced, only most of the ulities are bs compared to other classes.

Lol what I feel… Yeah, Mesmer has been a veilbot from day 1. Veil and portal is pretty much all they bring to battle – and portal is rarely used effectivly by commanders.

When the Mesmer get a weapon that’s actually usefull in the meta – like the Necro staff, Guardian staff or hammer, Warrior hammer or Elementalist staff – then you can come back and proclaim how much I suck at it.

Sure you can choose to run in a group without any helpfull skills at all, selfish yolo zerging style. I know I’ve done it. The only problem is that every other class does it better. And can help the group at the same time.

And if you do, you cant build omegas or other offensive superior siege, you are limited to normal. If you go full offensive and build 10 omegas to keep ready for an assault you cant defend your keeps with superior arrowcarts.

It’s very evident this week when we’re facing two servers with a very high WvW population.

Aye, this has always been the case. Piken has been the smallest high tier server and I believe it reached #2 spot in its glory days. Very skilled and strong guilds with excellent commanders back then. Seen so many leave since, unfortunetly. Its a shadow of what it was.

Why Anet left off First Person view?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dawdler.8521

Dawdler.8521

They didn’t directly say that it, but it was certainly implied imo.

“Devon Carver: Yeah, the one thing I would say is… the first person mode which we’ve had, we used to kind of toggle in and out of it on our dev client before, the biggest reason to stay away of it is that the sense of direction in combat is really important in our game, as well as positioning – positioning is really important. So, when you go into that first-person mode, you really completely lose the understanding of anything that is going on behind you, which can make our combat really difficult to understand and just difficult to play. There is some PvE scenarios where probably it wouldn’t be a big deal, but certainly in PvP or World versus World, it becomes very difficult to actually understand what is going on in combat. Which means that it really handicaps you as a player at that point; it makes it difficult to know what is going on and for that reason it is something we probably won’t be doing much work with, because we have really done a lot of work and continue to do a lot of work to make combat as readable and understandable as possible, and, like I said, direction and positionality is really important in our game, so not being able to say all that playable space is really valuable.”

Tl;dr
Its impossible to accurately portray combat awareness on a small monitor in first person.

If you do make first person, there are many things you have account for. I am fairly sure Anet just said meh kitten it, lets continue, during development.

People are already spending 2000+ gold on almost look alone (well its ascended at least… now). Why should spending 50 gold on looks be a problem?! how to kill a thief that keeps resetting wvw

in Necromancer

Posted by: Dawdler.8521

Dawdler.8521

You dont. No class can kill an highly skilled and properly geared/specced thief that doesnt want to get caught. You’ll find it hard even for 3 people to kill them. Another thief can give chase but usually that’s just ends in a stalemate or entering a keep of course. After 2.5 years and almost daily threads about in-combat near perma stealth, Anet has done nothing. They obviously like it.

With the way WvW works, you dont have to kill them anyway. If they dont kill you and you dont kill them while you stilll keep them from acheiveing their goal (if you for example covered a camp), they get nothing. Mission accomplished.

Whenever I engage a thief like this (no matter the class I’m currently on) that keep running away and back again and I dont really have to go that way… I just turn around and go somewhere else. Its pointless.

On the upside, at least the necro is fairly equipped to deal with thieves, unlike many other classes. Well necros laugh at the stealth hut or stealth stomping. Fears means you can keep them visible for longer periods. Having easy access to chill is a good way to slow them down. With shroud you have a rapid response damage absorber. Being able to spec good for conditions can really ruin someones day if they are unprepared but power necros also have very strong attacks.

Imagine if the only way to get one or more bl keys for gold in GW2 was to pay 500 gold. It doesnt matter if it pay for more and you only want one key, its that or nothing.

Anet is actually pretty generous with gems.
