Is PVT viable for mesmer?

in Mesmer

Dawdler.8521

PVT is viable to zerging and that’s it. IMO there are no other situations where its an advantage over either zerker (if you want glasscannon), knights (if you want power bunker) or rabid (if you want condition). Sure you can mix it up a bit, thus this is the core. Even when zerging, knights is going to serve you better (you can sprinkle in some PVT too).

Your cheaters only stay under a keep so its contested? Sweet. There is a cheater on FSP that’s usually beneath Stonemist that can take like half the HP of everyone in a stacked 30 man zerg with AoE burning attacks (I think its an elementalist?). You’re hit by unknown so you cant even report him. And even if 50 people reported him, do you really think Anets automatic system would care? I mean seeing as how we used to report teleport bot like 50 times a day for months.

Anet has done very little to help afaik so its unlikely to ever be fixed. Deal with it, ignore it, move on. Try to have fun anyway. Its not always easy but its the only thing we can do.

Mesmer Bugs: 33+ [Updated October 22nd]

Hi

Mesmer still can stealth by using decoy while being revealed.
(Auto Decoy from trait Dueling V too)
Already tested in pvp And wvw

That is working as intended afaik. Decoy is not stealth. Its just sort of stealth. Its a unique boon.

Why they decided to make decoy a unique type of Mesmer stealth instead of just regular stealth is anyones guess. But they did. So not bug. Well, unless of course revealed is supposed to work on it. But then its a bug with revealed, not the Mesmer.

GPU upgrade for WvW HELP

Dawdler.8521

WvW is going to bring down your fps no matter your card.

Still, a Geforce 780 Ti is about 2-2.5x faster than that little Geforce 750. Look its simple math – the longer the video card, the better it is. Yours is too short you see. Even the width is lacking. A 750 has about 80gb/s bandwidth. A 780 has ~300gb/s or something.

Whether you want to upgrade… Meh that’s your choice. Of course a better card is going to get pricey. Not to mention noisy, if your aim actually is HTPC.

I would strongly advice holding upgrades for a couple of months as prices are highly likely to drop – Geforce 870 and 880 is on the horizon and older versions usually get a cut.

Arrow Carts: A solution to stop "MOAR SIEGE!"

This has become even more of a problem lately

What do you mean lately? Arrowcarts has always been a problem. Anets solution to fix the problem was to buff arrowcart damage by about 80% (first they boosted damage, then they added mastery on top).

So no, it hasnt been a problem lately. Its been a problem both before and after Anet gave us the finger and shoved it up our kitten followed by ignoring feedback.

For all extreme suggestions we make, be it placement limitations, mechanics changes or nerfing it to the ground, you know what Anet could have done? Simple things.

Like, make arrowcarts cost 50/60/50 to reflect their buffed damage.

But nope. Not even that.

IMO there are three main solutions to the arrowcart “problem”. Placing them on certain textures is an… odd… way of handling it.

1) Reduce damage by about 50% and be done with it. Alternativly, double the recharge on skills to reduce its dps rather than damage.

2) Change the arrowcart to fire like a catapult/treb – aim with 1/3, charge arc fire with 2, change type of arrows with 4.

3) Remove them as placeable siege and add them to T3 fortifications (fixed positions on the walls, just like cannons).

You may notice first the awesome shatter/summoning sounds (and Thief pistol sounds!). The Mesmer has Shadow Refuge instead of the Thief, forward Phase Retreat that cause damage (and for some reason cause swiftness to enemy mobs), scepter that sound like a 150mm tank gun, insta-popping of 2 Phantasmal Duelists, Chaos Storm that cause poison, cripple and apparently insanity, instant staff auto-attack on target, commanding phantasms to move to location and omgisthatafreakininstakilllasergreatswordthatsoundlikeafreakinrailgun?!?!

Mordy's General is not the Pale Tree!!!

Dawdler.8521

Why do people keep assuming that Mordremoth will only have one champion?

Does no one remember Blightghast?

All of the dragons are likely to have several high ranking draconian champions.

The best example being Jormag.

Remember, we’re fighting a Claw of Jormag. Not the Claw of Jormag. I do not think the lore specify how many Claws there are. There can be 5. Or 50. Or 5,000,000 Claws of Jormag judging by how many times its being killed daily.

There’s absolutely nothing saying there arent a million Pale Trees scattered across the western continent, just waiting to unleash the chaos… the Pale Tree just happen to be one that apparently have other ideas and went its own way. Its definetly a dragon champion – the Sylvari being its “incorruptable” minions. Well, former champion is a better description.

PPT scoring: Weight by no. of people in wvw

in WvW

Posted by: Dawdler.8521

Dawdler.8521

PPT matters during all times of the day (it doesn’t matter less during NA than it does during SEA or OCX) and for as long as WvW is a 24/7 match, that’s the only fair way for it to be.

This is true, but the problem remain the coverage. Yeah so maybe SEA is fighting like hell on EB during the night… Capping tons of stuff and creating a queue. That still mean 3 borders are completely empty – no one to attack, no one to defend. Whoever has the keeps is racking up points like there’s no tomorrow with no danger.

A suggestion I remember posting before is not to weigh PPT by people, but time it’s been in friendly hands and what upgrade it has, actually changing the ppt value. For example:

Upon capture, the ppt value of a keep is currentppt+(tier*2) up to a max of 14ppt (full value T3 keep captured, 8 base points plus 6 bonus points).

Each tick a keeps current value is above the minppt based on tier, it looses 1ppt.

Min for T0: 2ppt.
Min for T1: 4ppt.
Min for T2: 6ppt.
Min for T3: 8ppt.

Each tick a keeps current value is below its minppt based on tier, it gains 1ppt.

Yep, that simple. Defend newly capped high value keeps and upgrade them to improve value. The entire point of this is to drag out the scoring. Constantly flipping low value keeps (ie T0) yeild very little for ppt as its ppt will remain the same. Even if one side manages to siege up all their keeps to T3 during the late night, when the day crew comes on they will “balance” out the time a T3 keep was ticking points via the bonus they get for capping them.

Or at least that’s the intent of this ppt system, actual results may vary lol.

Pfff… Think bigger than just blocking emotes.

Imagine for a moment if guilds could claim districts and buildings in Divinity. Same mechanics as in WvW, instead of capping it you buy it/rent it/something like that. Lets say you claim a tavern in Divinity, your guild banner is displayed on the walls. Your guild get full moderation of the tavern premises – any player inside that you dont want, you can simply kick out. Emotes would not show in the chat if you’re inside the tavern and they are outside and I can even imagine an option to disable map chat while inside this tavern zone.

What, imagining the above is about as realistic as hoping for a better Megaserver.

Which means that when using Firebringer and Rodgort, I’d be king of the night, muahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaa!!!

Actually freshing up the nighttime would make the GW2 devs able to add more endgame content without really adding any static content (like maps). Similar to how the storm event work in Dry Top, nighttime events could be level 80 events even in beginner zones. Just make the creepy creatures come at night…

They cant “fix” this problem. Half of the issue lies in the obstructed mechanic – which you really got no way around unless you make it possible to shoot through the upper part of a wall. But that would go both ways. The other half is the design of the walls themselves. Making more defensible walls would require them to be wider/deeper, taller (preferably with towers) and layered. Which means remodelling the keeps from scratch.

The current longbow can wreck face and get 3-4k auto attacks and is borderline abusive with some clever positioning.

The new longbow is, quite frankly, scary.

+1 lost almost 3/4 of my health in like 2secs from glassy rangers rapid fire and thats was with 3k armor 24k health.

Edit: I was in wvw.

So now people are straight up lying about what Rangers can currently do. You people are ridiculous.

3/4 of a 24k health pool is 18k health. You’re saying that a Ranger’s rapid fire took EIGHTEEN THOUSAND HP off a 3k armor build in 2 seconds?

First of all, a Ranger’s rapid fire hits on average up to 10-11k on a standard zerk build if there are a good number of crits in there. This can potentially be boosted to around 14-15k if might-stacked from other players and other power buffs and assuming most attacks crit. And this only on total glass players.

Second of all, Rapid fire has a 5 second cast time, so I’m not sure where you pulled that 2 second figure from (though I have a very good idea…). And finally, most players dodge during a Ranger’s rapid fire, which makes almost half the shots miss.

You are simply proving the point I made in my original post.

I met two rangers the other day that where quite coordinated and fairly decent at rangering in WvW. My Mesmer has 2.2K toughness and around 21K HP when buffed.

When both did rapid fire against me and setting both animals on me, I died in seconds. Didnt stand a chance. Stealth? HA! Rapid fire track through stealth. The only thing to do was either dodge like crazy or pop evade skills but when everything is on cooldown you end up a pretty corpse.

The longbow/shortbow ranger is not that weak. The Ranger just suffer the same problem Mesmer does – AI is broken and beside a few niche skills (in rangers case, pretty much only entangle) they’re pointless at everything, bringing a guardian/warrior is always better. Even despite this, there’s like twice as many Rangers as there are Mesmers, lol.

New trait idea?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Dawdler.8521

Well, I think we all know that with Anet Mesmer tweaking, their reasoning would probably be that the trait would also mean that you cannot use shatter/leap skills within 3s of summoning the clones.

Heading in to WvW - current roaming meta?

in Mesmer

Dawdler.8521

A more flexible way of going is with you running a PU build and the thief running a glassy build. In this setup, you’d be the first to engage and draw attention. The thief would then pick off targets while they focused on you.

Not only is it the more flexible way, I would consider it the best. In “equal” 2v2 situations you often dont want to go double zerk (in my experience at least) because that means exposing your weakness rather quickly. A tougher Mesmer and a zerker Thief can use that to their advantage by only exposing one side first and giving the enemy doubts on who to target. You dont really want to to do it the opposite way (ie tough Thief and zerker Mesmer) because the Thief is plain and simple better at popping in/out and dealing huge damage. You want to use that Thief mobility and damage to catch them on the run. The Mesmer in this duo is also more suitable to be the one picking a condition build as well… Say what you want about cheesy p/d condi Thief solo roaming, it does not use the Thief at what they’re best at in a group. Although I would strongly recommend a power/prec Mesmer, because condition so kitten boring lol.

Lol that’s a horrible idea. Like kicking a kittened kid when he’s already unconcious on the ground.

All its going to do is is snowball the point decrease – Server give up a pointless match (either because they are tired of the enemies, or tired of never winning, etc), then next week they get less points and cant compete, which cause them to surrender, which mean that the week after that they get even less points… You get the idea.

PPT scoring: Weight by no. of people in wvw

in WvW

Dawdler.8521

Such scoring ideas have been brought up in the past and I agree with them.

I mean, lets take a moment when its in the middle of the night. Say that green is holding entire border. All sentries, all camps, all keeps, everything. There’s no enemies at all nor will there be any in the next 5 hours.

Why in this situation should they get full ticks from the keeps? Its not even passive defense – there is no defense. There is no activity. They’re just racking up points from their border. So yes, PPT really should scale with players on that specific border. If WvW players choose to only populate EB in the middle of the night (because there’s no population for the borders) then 90% of the score should come from what happens on EB.

Its the same thing as turning of the lights in a room you’re not using, heh. Adjust for coverage.

WvW for map completion is just pure griefing.

What's Best build 4 Lrge Grp/Support WvW?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Dawdler.8521

Dawdler.8521

The problem with Mesmer support builds is that if you go all the way, you’re likely going to miss some fairly crucial skills. And if you want to actually be usefull… You’re going to miss out on the support part.

For example, a standard shatter build (4/4/0/0/6) will perform great in terms of damage and can be a flanker/skirmisher, but you’re going to want the basic survival skills – blink and decoy. That leave very little options for the third skill. If you’re the only Mesmer well then there is little choice. You need veil. If you’re lucky enough not to need it, you probably want null field but there are some other good things you want in a zerg – stability mantra or cleansing mantra for example.

If you run a glamour support build, you can dedicate yourself to veil, feedback and nullfield, possibly even having portal always equipped. These builds generally go down trees that also give you good survival traits – phantasmal regen, menders purity, etc. BUT doing so will leave your offensive capabilities and defensive skills crippled. Good luck trying to avoid a zerg running over you without blink or stability mantra. Good luck trying to catch up to the group when you cant even kill an upscaled ranger.

Its so kitten painful when a raid leader comes in yelling “OMG VEIL!!!” and “kitten WHERE IS PORTAL NEED IT NOW!!!” and then you die because you didnt have blink, stability and decoy… its your fault the enemy ressed. Even better are the raidleaders that think you can just swap to veil when you’re about to engage a zerg and then swap back to blink, like its all fine and dandy. Trust me I’ve been there. Mesmer is a hard class to enjoy when zerging.

In the end, the best thing for a 20 man group is around 3-4 Mesmers talking together about what skills are used so you can pick a couple each (ie veil, portal and null field) instead of trying to make that perfect “group build”.

But of course, good luck finding 3 other Mesmers in the raid. We’re so OP and popular we’re invisible all the time.

Filling it in with something was better than leaving it the way it was.

The dev time wasted on doing that should have been spent on something else.

lot of people hate on the bloodlust mechanic, but you realize its one of the only wvw mechanics that scales well in terms of ppt, based on population differences?

IE gives more points to the teams who kill more of their enemies than they themselves get killed, and gives less points when less people are playing, and more when more are playing.

Also gives a decent short term goals/small group objectives. Its not perfect but i would say its overall pretty worthwhile, and more objectives probably need to scale better with player performance and ratio of people playing on each server.

Only problem is that gaining bloodlust is all about population to begin with. When your server with 1 20 man pug zerg and a guild group face 2 40 man zergs, an equal size guild group and they still have 10 people available to run ruins all the time… does it really matter if you keep slaughtering their zergs at every encounter? If you take bloodlust, you cant take objectives. If you take objectives, you cant hold bloodlust. Coverage ftw.

This is the key issue with bloodlust. Its not an on off event you can focus on, you need to dedicate entire groups to run in circles. Its boring. Its always been boring. Everybody noticed that within a day of playing except Anet.

And the complete removal of adrenaline (and hundred blades, replace it with a skill that shoot flowers into the air) would totally fix the Warrior.

Changing the basics of a class is a really really bad idea. Fixing the class, sure. But changing fundamental mechanics on the whole (ie how damage works) is not fixing it. The only thing that need a rework on the whole in terms of mechanics is mantras. Why?

Because resource management sucks.

This here is a great example as to why I left this horrid game. Between players like this and the horrible direction Anet took this game (not to mention how they balance) it is no wonder why all the slightly above average to pro, and everything in between, PvP players left.

Instead of listening to the actual Pro players (when they had them) and decent ones they cave to the ones like I quoted.

Resource management sucks? Yes having to time, manage, and think about things while playing a game sucks. We should all just smash our face against the key board as fast as we can when we see things off cooldown to determine the winner. Long live Guild Wars 2.

Youre saying Anet listens to me?! Ooooh I feel so flattered. Because that would be amazing. Last time I checked, anet listen to no one when it comess to the Mesmer.

And yes, I will keep thinking resources managed sucks no matter the class. Action based counterplay is where its at. I got enough on my hands trying to manage unruly clones.

I will also keep thinking that changing core mechanics of a class is a bad idea. I started playing Mesmer because I like how it plays overall. Not because of some feverish dream of how I can change the Mesmer to be how I want it to be. Shall we remove the pet from the Ranger perhaps? Add initiative and stealth to the Guardian? Make the Warrior the ultimate pet class that can summon necro minions? Perhaps give the engineer clone on dodge?

Anet please listen to me!!! My elementalist need to cause all magic damage that completely bypass toughness. And also a 75% runspeed signet. Thanks. That’d be great.

Mesmers honestly have no chance against a good p/d thief since the thief can molest and abuse their clones to no end to heal up whenever they need, shadow rejuvenation is an insanely strong trait.

Strange, I managed to win against a very, very good p/d Thief today on my Mesmer. Sure it took like 3 minutes of battle and the Theif only popping up for 3 seconds before stealthing again, but still. Timing and luck worked to my advantage in the end. Heavy defensive footwork with the staff was one of the main reasons I could keep on top.

But it all depends on how you count a win.

Of course I didnt kill the Thief, I only got him down to real low HP. Killing a p/d build is pretty much impossible with any build/class combo unless you’re an elite PvPer. He withdrew and bowed though, lol.

And they call PU Mesmers cheese, sigh… Its nothing compared to a p/d condi Thief.

in Mesmer

Posted by: Dawdler.8521

Dawdler.8521

Well… how much have you used it? :p

I ran various mantra builds for a long time and the end result was always the same – its not good enough. Mantras literally wear you down due to their mechanics. Yes, healing is strong, cleansing is strong and the damage and features is there… but its very interruptable, easily put on the defensive and force you to micromanage charging every second. For a class that already has to pop 10 skills to equal Thief autoattack and dance around like a fairy on crack, thats pretty darn annoying. For larger groups and zerging it worked ok, but roaming was just awful.

But hey if it works for you then more power to mantra builds. I know I wont try it again any time soon, lol.

Diminishing Returns was clearly explained in GW1, the exact same system is in place in GW2.

Simple: STOP DOING THE EXACT SAME THING IN THE EXACT SAME AREA.
Move around. Go to different zones occasionally. The DR affects everything except guaranteed items in chests and guaranteed rares from events.

Incorrect. DR in gw2 is random (if not broken, no way to tell really). Theres been many times where I can literally see DR kick in within a minute of the first event in Orr for the day. You get some gear, some crafting stuff and such then bam 9 out 10 drops is suddenly greys.

There is something going on behind the scenes that Anet is never going to tell us about.

The argument that mounts aren’t “needed” is so pathetic and stupid. Mini-pets aren’t needed better remove them! Please remove transmutation it’s not needed everybody should just look the same. So many things in this game aren’t “needed”. Atleast try to make a decent argument or don’t even bother. And the fact that you are so adamantly against mounts using such a dumb argument just makes you look more ignorant.

Transmutations and mini pets (as stupid as they are) have been in the game since release. Mounts is not a currently existing feature. Your comparison is silly and invalid.

And no, I dont really see why they are needed when every single map is designed for running.

Now, if Anet where to make 10x as big maps on wide open grassy fields or deserts only dotted by the occasional village or city, mounts might actually be something. Especially if we add mounted warfare in WvW. But thats a thing for Guild Wars 3. In Guild Wars 3, I would be more than happy to welcome our new mount overlords.

Every phantasm attacks once at full damage at summon. Then, they constantly damage the opponent ever 1-2 seconds for far lesser damage, adding to Mind Focus resource.

You can then use Mind Focus to order your creations full-damage attack, empower one of your attacks/heals or shorten cooldowns, or such.

Yes, I’m a fan of resource management

I can’t believe no one else has responded to this post. You literally just fixed the cheesy game play of the Mesmer by the simplest means and one that would actually promote skill.

This is the first post I have bothered to log back in and quote for a while simply because I have given up on this community and game, but you good sir give me hope that it can achieve what it was meant to be if the developers listen.

Something like this might work out quite okay (not for dungeon speedruns, but for casual runs and open world PvE): http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fhAQNAW7alknpTtNqxINUrNCuxY2JCBl/MUZD4XA-ThSAABUcBCET5HAPAgQV/pjDCwFHABOOCA9s/Ah6WaTJIhAWsGA-e

You’ll still have that slight problem that confusion in PvE is completely pointless. You even pick 5 points in dueling for confusion combatants. Why? In PvE, your phantasms and clones dont generally die so fast and even then… a mob barely have the time to attack once during that confusion. Really, they attack so slow that the last time I tried to use my scepter against a mob (hey I logged off after WvW and was dropped on a mob when logging in the next day, had little choice) he attacked me, I raised block to smack 5 torment stacks on him (weeee) and… The block is over before the next attack comes only resulting in several awkward seconds of me staring at the mob and the mob staring at me. Mobs arent players. They dont use skills, they’re just plain dumb. If you’re lucky, a confusion stack will tick once.

But… no one can tell you have to play condition in PvE because no one in their right mind play with it :/

The answer to 2 I cant give because I do not understand the question. The answer to 3 is precision.

The answer to 1 is… whatever. You want the scepter trait and that’s about it (not that you want a scepter in PvE but hey I’m trying to work with something here). You cant build around confusion (mobs barely take any damage) so that’s fairly pointless. You’ll have poor shatter damage on a condition build so little point in focusing on it. No point in building for phantasm damage either. So I have absolutely no clue.

Indeed, both are pretty bad options for PvE. For PvP… I’d probably pick engineer over necro.

So, mesmer have clones. But it also have stealth . WHY? It isn’t thief to need stealth. So we just gonna add stealth to mesmer to make thief even more useless or? Can someone enlight me plase, what is purporse of giving mesmer thief’s skill?

Stealth isnt a thief skill. Engineer and Ranger has access to it too.

Also, the purpose is to make them playable. They are good roamers (just like thieves) and thats about it. Without stealth, a Mesmer has kittenty broken clones. Without kittenty broken clones, it would be unplayble. A Mesmer alone couldnt even outdps the healing of a zerker Thief. All weapons has been nerfed to the ground, all clones and phantasms are bugged beyond belief. Stealth is the only thing that works decently and thats just because OP Thief stealth hasnt been nerfed either and is never going to be.

Curious Question about Terminology

We call it havoc because its more about disrupting activities behind enemy lines than achieving any specific goal. Not sure the term comes from anywhere. If it does, probably daoc or something.

What is PU?

Dawdler.8521

PU is that one skill which bring the Mesmer up to par with the other classes in WvW.

And that’s about it. Some hokus pokus about stealth boons, yeah.

Gate Rezzing!

Its not a cheat. Its an abuse of an unintended mechanic (ie reviving not caring if there is a wall between the reviver and revivee).

It is however an equal opportunity abuse. AoE doesnt care about walls either and a zerg is highly likely to kill whoever is trying to revive from behind the gate. Guardian staves and all manners of AoE kill everything.

So yeah… Do you want to remove AoE from the game? If so I’m fine with removing the ability to revive from behind the gate, lol.
