Hey if the drugs I’m on allow me to push a button to avoid damage, I’ll stick with them.
But granted, you’re right, its not reactively negating ability effects. Its preemptively negating damage. Unless you call seeing someone cast a skill and you reacting by pushing a button some sort “reaction”. I guess its a little diffuse.
Likely not a large enough player base there to be worth the expense.
True.
It is a well known fact that 90% of the Australian population are in fact kangaroos.
Average nobody here, don’t mind me. Well I can’t say there was ‘no progress’ at all, because I do enjoy the dagger’s cleave, makes dungeon running with a dagger fo/wh zerk build semi-decent.
And yet other classes still have evasive attacks that cost no endurance, invulnerability, signets with actual uses other than the passive, stealth, short cooldowns, way more stability, etc etc.
How, after all this time, is it still so messy?
Possibly because after all this time, necros still have death shroud?
A necro plays differently and definetly has its flaws sure but I seriously dont see how you can complain about other classes having “unfair” stuff when necros have a bloody second life bar. If specced for damage they are not “underperforming” any worse than the other classes that arent warriors.

While I’m hoping that the GW2 engine is updated to allow 2x/4x/even bigger maps than what’s currently in the game… I doubt it. They have previously stated that the maps they have now is as big as it is technically possible to make GW2 maps. Meaning we will never see any bigger maps. That’s not to say they cant make up for it with excellent design and more verticality (just look at EoTM) but still… Same size as now.
Suggestions to scale points by timezone has been brought up many times before and it doesnt work. If scaling where to happen, it need to be based on actual players on the map.
Ugh, so many things wrong… if you want a prebuilt machine thats fine, if you want a custom one then no.
- Go with the i7 if you got tons of cash to spare. Otherwise i5 are cheaper and about as fast.
- 2tb hdd? Hahaha who even use internal hdds anymore… get 512mb ssd at least. I recommend a fast 256gb as main and a cheap 256gb combo (cheap ssds are already so much better than hdd anyway). If you need 2tb storage, get a nas. Or 4 more ssds. At least they are worth it.
- scrap the dvd, we havent needed them for 5 years or something.
- is the mobo mATX? Otherwise pointless. ATX is so last decade. This apply to the chassi as well of course, you only need it if you plan on 4x sli.
- 750? Ugh… GTX970/R290X minimum.
- if that monitor aint 144hz is useless. If its tn instead of ips its already useless but I forgive people for that since the new gen ips aint out yet.
- never ever use stock cooler argh! Not even worth the metal they are made of. Noctua make decent ones, and a ton of others.
- if a PSU have to say its reliable, its probably not.
No open world dueling…i play gw2 because it doesnt have that, just like gw1, and if it ever gets added, well i know at least 5 people personally who will move on, because of the trolling other games allow with the system, even with an auto decline feature.
if it was added to specific small arenas that would be fine, like the bane in the black citadel
Well that is open world dueling. In a sense. Just in a limited area. But you can still have an audience :p
And its been suggested before. No idea why Anet is so bloody against it. We all get that no one want to get 35613615 invites every second in PvE. That’s fine. But the simplest idea ever is to allow dueling in the sPvP lobby. Lots of space there that isnt used. Would that be so terrible? I dont think so. Dueling in “arenas” around the PvE world would be perfectly fine as well. Have one in divinity, the citadel and rata sum. Not in the grove of course. No one likes seeing two twigs poke each other.
If Anet wanted to shut down an account they will do so, period, on the spot with no warning. This goes for any MMO really. They will never ask you to “verify” an account or “remove restrictions”. So people should never fall for cheap tricks like this.
Its the colors that would be messed up. Armor classes are different materials (somehow), which means its impossible to match. Black on heavy armor could be brown on light and grey on medium. I dont think Anet want to take the mass of complaints for that, lol. You can already see the poor results on some pieces within the same weight class not matching the rest.
TLDR: Condi builds are actually very good in the silverwastes as long as idiotic power build users dont go around spamming condition applications.
Like there is much of a choice when every darn skill apply some condition…
Anyway, after coming back from a years break and playing up my necro (first time in 2 years its above level 40 lol) its easy to see that the same PvE mechanics still apply. Conditions are pointless. You can have them as a side trick, little else. Playing with power/precision is just so much more fun – and incidently, a direct damage dagger/dagger necro is stupid fun.
I would argue that direct damage is far more fun in WvW as well, but conditions do have a tendancy to slaughter unprepared people.
Native 64-bit game client for this release?

When they started programming for GW2, it was no later than 2007, possibly earlier.
64 bit systems were pretty uncommon at the time.
Fun fact:
32 bit processors for the PC was basicly obsolete in 2004, none where being made anymore. Just about every processor since has been 64 bit.
The only ones that has been holding back 64 bit and crippling PC memory allocation is Microsoft with their refusal to scrap the 32 bit/64 bit division of Windows. If Windows installed itself as 64 bit on a 64 bit CPU and 32 bit on a 32 bit CPU… No one would have 32 bit.

You can too be healing support. At least that was the case last time I checked, which was a while ago. Warriors have good AoE healing. Mesmer has great AoE healing (I did some calculations once that a 20+ raid of Mesmers could heal each other up from 0 to 20K HP in a couple of seconds, lol). Guardian also has great healing of course and is the simplest of the bunch and can spec for quick revive.
Problem is, no one will appreciate you for it because they probably wont even notice you keeping them alive. Most of the time, they wont think they needed it. And they’d probably be correct. GW2 is based more on damage avoidance than it is on actually healing wounds.
Thanks exp.
What’s better for the elementalist, Power, Vitality or Precision?
I keep accepting Power items when I complete an event etc. Thanks all.
Doesnt matter at all until you are 80. Power is easiest when leveling though.
Last time I checked, only some pistols hade different sounds. Could be wrong though.
Look at wvw matchups and decide on server, where you want to play. In pve, everything is now shared so its not only populated, its packed lol. Unfortunetly, that sometimes mean you will move from all english in the chat to all german and to some jibberish I think is french. You never know where you end up.
Paying for locked bits and pieces of a game is always bad. It split up the community and make it less fun for everyone.
Installing from disc was probably pretty pointless as you will download most of the game anyway.
They’d still be easy since they still go down kinda quick.
Single ones, yes. GW2 never really challenge people in PvE. Try fighting 20 veterans and 2 elites.
I havent played much large events since coming back after a long break but I am guessing that most events are still broken in terms of scaling
The blow torches should be pistols? Like melee pistols?
Yes. Its the poor mans lightsaber.
it would be funny the guild hall for a 5 man guild is fairly cheap but also just a broken down old wooden house with a three legged table and 4 chairs.
Will PvE give more value to support builds?

GW2 has always been about the simple fact that the guy next to you is your support. Nevermind class, build or gear, its the player that is in focus. Some are better, some are worse but thats ok.
I dont see why they should change a winning concept. Not enforcing the trinity is why many people love GW2. They have already made new content much trickier than vanilla, if they continue that its going to be great.
New weapon, pffff…
The only thing a Warrior need is dualweilding greatswords. They can remove all the other weapons
So play Engineer then, seems like you already decided lol.
Personally I am one of those that have a strong hate for kits. I just cant work them. I know some are awesome, but I am more likely to accidentally put a grenade in my ear than I am tossing it towards the enemy. I will never fully play the Engineer. And thats make it less fun.
UI has changed quite a bit, but the core is the same. First thing to check is the most likely reset of WvW skills. You may also want to go through your inventories and bank to see if you can put more things in the wallet (I still have old transmutation crystals, lol).
My most noticable thing coming back was of course the dailies. That and getting crap loot taking up more inventory space. I still dont know wtf the spoons are for.
Engineer and Warrior is the obvious answer. Level both to 80, then decide. If you are bored with one… play another. Most thats played the game since release have all classes at 80 in full exotic/ascended. You are not going to have fun for years by limiting yourself.
Guardian and Warrior has always been considered the best newbie classes. They are usefull for everything and can support their group. Its hard to do wrong. On the other end of the spectrum you got Mesmers and Engineers. They not bad, but require a little more thought and you can easily bork builds. The others are somewhere in between.
My personal favorites are Guardian, Necromancer and Mesmer.
Many will probably recommend ranger, but I dont think people should give into the cuddly pet thing. Rangers are never really needed in WvW. Its such a generic class. Cant recommend it if you want to feel like you are doing something for your team.2

Why do I have to play PvE to get 100% map completion if I;’m exclusively WvW player?
Opinion on that OP?
Because map completion is supposed to show you have been everywhere and seen everything in the game. Yes, its a demand for legendary weapons. Why shouldnt full exploration of the game be?
Now answer this question: If you only play a part of the game, have you explored the entire game?
Its not like its hard to do in PvE. It take a couple of hours per map if you’re slow and not 80, less if you are fully geared and ignore everything. Only a few of the maps are really annoying to traverse (straits, uuuugh). In WvW, its the easiest thing ever… if youre the proper color is up or you get lucky with sieges. Meaning, its only a matter of time. Time you wont miss because the only thing you need world completion for will take you alot of time gather mats for if you do it from scratch. Like, 10,000x more time than it took you to finish up your WvW completion.
Yeah today I did up until the sunken temple on one of my chars that was left over (level 40 since a year back, lol).
The story missions are ridiculous now! They make NO sense whatsoever in this new order. It wasnt all that good before but come on… this is just so much worse. Tonn is the best example. Anet you cant have Traherne cry over Tonn without even telling the story!
I also like how that sea person may be “alarming” to people, she has to be introduced in secret… and in the mission before she was right there, with you and your forces lol. Wrong order kitten .
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Levels 1-20 has always been the worst in GW2. Its horrible. Hell I would even extend that to level 30, then it start to become fun.
Well, except the endgame at 60-80 is now as horrible as 1-20 because nothing makes sense anymore. Anet has shuffled around story missions so much there is no continuity.
Why are there still so few pants?
Maybe we could have alternative ways to travel like, I dont know, some kind of large portals, possibly made by the technologically savvy Asurans.
Wait kind of like the portals that are already in the game, but now used to travel from point to point on a map? Sort of like if you imagine Cursed Shore having no waypoints but instead having portals from LA->Caer Shadowfain, CS->Gavbeorn, Gavbeorn->Meddlers and Meddlers->Shipwreck Rock. Anything between you have to walk to. Revival would only be possible at these sites.
Hahaha, naaaaah… That’s just ridiculous. We clearly need to steal res shrines from some other games, its the only logical thing to do.
Ultimately, megaservers are a devastating blow to any sense of community in general, and encourages players to be on their worst behavior. I’ll reiterate: it is absolutely necessary that players have the option to opt out of megaservers.
Disagreed.
What they need to is to give us the option to choose megaserver instance.
Other games have solved this “problem” by a simple drop down menu list. Why Anet has decided to keep this hidden is beyond me. People can then decide their own instances for player driven events (roleplaying included). Hey all, drunken brawl event in Megaserver Instance #8 this weekend! Etc and so on.
Opting out of megaservers is probably technically impossible. If it is 100% full you wouldnt be able to use it because others do not opt out. Changing the way that system works is pointless and a waste of resources, when other games with megaserver tech has the solution as I mentioned above. Its not problem to decide on a common instance. IE if #1-10 are 100% full, the game is running #11 at 30% capacity, #12 at 10% capacity and #13 at 0% capacity (just in case) while #14 and up are closed. Roleplayers, guilds etc can just hop into #13 and fill it up.

inb4 gemstore angelwing/devilwing glider skin
outb4 flappy Quaggan glider skin.
I doubt they will be available in WvW as it would break the game completely.
Also wouldnt surprise me in the slightest if its a quick mode of transportation from one fixed point to another in PvE. If they are like in Archeage, it would break all existing PvE maps as well. Only available on the new map perhaps? Which means that skins are pretty pointless haha.
Using HDMI for gaming is… pointless. Yes, colors are borked and not even close to the bandwidth of dp/DVI so it cant handle 60hz+ at higher resolutions.
Interesting that a reg fix can suddenly increase the bandwidth and restore those colours then.
Also makes me wonder why blueray HD TVs don’t use DVI instead of this crappy hdmi standard that borks colours.
Why? Because HDMI is sound and video. Its easier. But video only give much higher bandwidth and full range rgb.
Tweaking the colors/gamma is a workaround, not a fix. And it can only help the rgb range. You cannot fix the bandwidth. No regfix will make 4K/144hz possible with HDMI, for example.

have you seen the amount of spears spread through the art for season 2 and HoT?
Lol.
Why not actually go back to the art that’s been in the GW2 since release? And probably a year or two before that.
There is plenty of spears/polearms in GW2 art. Hell, Claw Island is being attacked by an entire bloody spear wielding army. And it also have siege towers, interestingly enough.
Eh well is there any build that use those weapons effectivly aside from PU and shatter?
Personally I’ve always been partial to power based low cd phantasm GS+Staff build in sPvP, lol. Yeah I’m a little weird.
You already have a pretty good indicator – queue times to zones. No queues at any time, your server is underpopulated no matter how you look at it. 100+ queuing for EB at primetime, it’s probably pretty decent.
This idea is probably wouldn’t work as I see it, unless you have left out some details.. All it does is encourage delayed karma training. Hold keep, upgrade keep. Forget about keep. Once you have the points from taking it and upgrading it, there is little point in wasting effort to hold it. Unless the points per capture and upgrade are very low. Which then defeats the point of keeps at all.
As if that is any different from now? Karma training has nothing to with PPT. In fact, it skips PPT entirerely, that only delay the train. Ideally entire armies will just bypass each other. Karma trainers would be most happy if all the keeps had open doors and no NPCs.
The point would be shifting a buttload of points to active PvP instead of passive PPT. I did not specify the points per upgrade or capture, no. That is a balance issue which can only be tested by doing it (which will never happen, so this is purely hypothetical anyway). Of course it wouldnt be like 5000 points for a capture if a kill is worth 1 point. It would be much, much lower. Also, you missed the part where I specified PvP scoring that encourage defense (even when outmanned). The points from upgrading a keep would just be icing on the cake.
Karma training would be business as usual, but unlike the current PPT system with infinite points from an uncontested keep, it would give finite points per keep (capture+upgrades) and then only points for capping it, defending it or bonus points for fighting outmanned around it. Holding a keep is the basis for players to actively leech points from it. No keeps, no points! No players, no points! Well aside from said upgrade icing on the cake.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Uuuuuuuugh give it up.
Ever since release there’s been suggestion upon suggestion on this exact thing. Even after all the collaborative development posts by the devs, nothing has been “fixed” with the core flaw of the WvW, coverage and PPT. You can forget about complicated things like this (yes its complicated to fairly scale PPT in float values even if it may seem like childs play at a glance).
Simpler ideas if often better. For example:
No more PPT.
Keeps give a fixed amount of points when taken over.
Keeps also give a fixed amount of points when upgraded a tier.
Keeps apply AoE defense effect giving 2x points for kills when tagged.
Keeps and camps keep track of local outmanned buffs in their surroundings and apply 2x more points for kills (doesnt matter if its attacker or defender, anyone that is outmanned gets it).
End result == Points is focused around taking, upgrading your keeps and actual PvP in and around them. Not PPT kitten all night in an empty border.
So uhh… Its been 2-3 years ago since you played this 2.5 year old game?
Clearly there was nothing in the game that you liked in the first place.
Is it worth it compared to its release state? Yes, definetly. The game is very populated and there’s so many things changed, improved, nerfed and added you’d fill a book with the list. The only thing I would say to do before joining is looking into WvW matchups – you want to start your character on a higher tier server.
I just hope the requirements for it are not insane
25 million skulls is completely reasonable, if everone in the guild work towards it you’ll have a guild hall in 50 years! No time at all!!!
Playing WvW on the borderlands is a kind of sandbox. We don’t need huge changes but even the smallest adjustment can alter the game experience. I want more “events” like the Sneak Attack… Make more ANET!
Like:
Frozen Dollies: dolyaks cannot move without swiftness or a fire field layed under them.
Fog of War: ranged siege equipment has 50% reduced range and damage.
The living wood: gates have retaliation.
Revenge of the dolyak: Dolyaks give 5 stack of might and fury to allies in 1200 radius.
Diplomacy: every mercenary camp now adds a Siegerazor to their forces.
Marker’s Trap: activating this trap shows an icon on the minimap with the number of the enemies triggering it for 30 seconds. And so on… These are little things but they can contribute to the WvW feeling very well… ANET does not even have to balance it since every event would last like 2 weeks or so. I think I don’t need big changes every 6 month… but some spice would be awesome…
My 2 coppers
One of my fondest memories of WvW suggestions was remaking the borderlands into “weatherzones” (and tweak EB to have a little of each towards respective border).
You got the desert border, jungle border and tundra border. Each would have local and random weather systems to match. Sandstorms, fog, snowstorms. it would still be the same base terrain, just… different. Frozen rivers, dried up rivers and regular rivers, for example.
But its always too late to dream. I look towards Guild Wars 3 instead. GW2 has always been a great game, now imagine it on a modern engine with lots more detail.
I plan on giving ESO another chance (I played it in beta) when the subscription fees end, but I thought the combat in Beta seemed a lot more static and boring than GW2.
Boring indeed. I stand by what I said, in many ways its superior. The map itself and its ridiculous size, the siege mechanics etc… Everything just oozed WvW on a grand scale. But the way they designed it pretty much demanded a large and very active population which organised itself. When the numbers wherent there, it was impossible to get started, unlike GW2 where 5 people can easily cap a keep (and is in no danger whatsoever when taking a camp). In short, GW2 scales from about 1-50 players, ESO scale from 20-200 players. And that’s not good design. It ignore bugs and other small things too but lets not look at that lol. When it was max populated and everyone clashed around a castle… oh boy was it fun. When you where nearly alone and had to run for 30 minutes… uuuuugh.
Sometimes I wish ESO had just taken GW2 and made it… 100% bigger. Maybe 200%. Not 5000%.

Its going to be expensive to buy enough monitors to light up the house
Of course its possible. All they need is a new map and new scripts. Hell they barely even need that. Just slap down some AI on existing maps.
Having a personal guild in GW2 is the eqvivalent of having a second account in other games. Nothing strange about it. Just cost some gold to set up.
